Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome to the dispute resolution noticeboard (DRN)

This is an informal place to resolve small content disputes as part of dispute resolution. It may also be used as a tool to direct certain discussions to more appropriate forums, such as requests for comment, or other noticeboards. You can ask a question on the talk page. This is an early stop for most disputes on Wikipedia. You are not required to participate, however, the case filer must participate in all aspects of the dispute or the matter will be considered failed. Any editor may volunteer! Click this button to add your name! You don't need to volunteer to help. Please feel free to comment below on any case. Be civil and remember; Maintain Wikipedia policy: it is usually a misuse of a talk page to continue to argue any point that has not met policy requirements. Editors must take particular care adding information about living persons to any Wikipedia page. This may also apply to some groups.

Noticeboards should not be a substitute for talk pages. Editors are expected to have had extensive discussion on a talk page (not just through edit summaries) to work out the issues before coming to DRN.
Do you need assistance? Would you like to help?

If we can't help you, a volunteer will point you in the right direction. Discussions should be civil, calm, concise, neutral, objective and as nice as possible.

    • This noticeboard is for content disputes only. Comment on the contributions, not the contributors. Off-topic or uncivil behavior may garner a warning, improper material may be struck-out, collapsed, or deleted, and a participant could be asked to step back from the discussion.
    • We cannot accept disputes that are already under discussion at other content or conduct dispute resolution forums or in decision-making processes such as Requests for comments, Articles for deletion, or Requested moves.
    • The dispute must have been recently discussed extensively on a talk page (not just through edit summaries) to be eligible for help at DRN. The discussion should have been on the article talk page. Discussion on a user talk page is useful but not sufficient, because the article talk page may be watched by other editors who may be able to comment. Discussion normally should have taken at least two days, with more than one post by each editor.
    • Ensure that you deliver a notice to each person you add to the case filing by leaving a notice on their user talk page. DRN has a notice template you can post to their user talk page by using the code shown here: {{subst:drn-notice}}. Be sure to sign and date each notice with four tildes (~~~~). Giving notice on the article talk page in dispute or relying on linking their names here will not suffice.
    • Do not add your own formatting in the conversation. Let the moderators (DRN Volunteers) handle the formatting of the discussion as they may not be ready for the next session.
    • Follow moderator instructions There will be times when the moderator may issue an instruction. It is expected of you to follow their instruction and you can always ask the volunteer on their talk page for clarification, if not already provided. Examples are about civility, don't bite the newcomers, etc.
    If you need help:

If you need a helping hand just ask a volunteer, who will assist you.

    • This is not a court with judges or arbitrators that issue binding decisions: we focus on resolving disputes through consensus, compromise, and advice about policy.
    • For general questions relating to the dispute resolution process, please see our FAQ page.

We are always looking for new volunteers and everyone is welcome. Click the volunteer button above to join us, and read over the volunteer guide to learn how to get started. Being a volunteer on this page is not formal in any respect, and it is not necessary to have any previous dispute resolution experience. However, having a calm and patient demeanor and a good knowledge of Wikipedia policies and guidelines is very important. It's not mandatory to list yourself as a volunteer to help here, anyone is welcome to provide input.

    Volunteers should remember:
    • Volunteers should gently and politely help the participant fix problems. Suggest alternative venues if needed. Try to be nice and engage the participants.
    • Volunteers do not have any special powers, privileges, or authority in DRN or in Wikipedia, except as noted here. Volunteers who have had past dealings with the article, subject matter, or with the editors involved in a dispute which would bias their response must not act as a volunteer on that dispute. If any editor objects to a volunteer's participation in a dispute, the volunteer must either withdraw or take the objection to the DRN talk page to let the community comment upon whether or not the volunteer should continue in that dispute.
    • Listed volunteers open a case by signing a comment in the new filing. When closing a dispute, please mark it as "closed" in the status template (see the volunteer guide for more information), remove the entire line about 'donotarchive' so that the bot will archive it after 48 hours with no other edits.
    Open/close quick reference
    • To open, replace {{DR case status}} with {{DR case status|open}}
    • To close, replace the "open" with "resolved", "failed", or "closed". Add {{DRN archive top|reason=(reason here) ~~~~}} beneath the case status template, and add {{DRN archive bottom}} at the bottom of the case. Remember to remove the DoNotArchive bit line (the entire line).

    Current disputes

    RRR

    [edit]
    – New discussion.

Have you discussed this on a talk page?

Yes, I have discussed this issue on a talk page already.

    Dispute overview

Movie RRR gathered praise from international filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, James Cameron etc. which is highly unusual for an Indian movie. Such praise has been widely covered in media and a section was made to list the international filmmakers which praised it with detailed citations. However, some editors are deleting it again and again saying that it can't be included despite it being newsworthy and notable. We have discussed this extensively on the Talk page over the months, but the dispute continues.

How have you tried to resolve this dispute before coming here?

    http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Talk:RRR#Inclusion_of_acclaim_by_filmmakers_for_RRR

How do you think we can help resolve the dispute?

Kindly provide comment on a) how whether or not the section contains notable information, b) is well cited or not c) should be entirely deleted or not despite being notable and well cited

    RRR discussion

    [edit]
Please keep discussion to a minimum before being opened by a volunteer. Continue on article talk page if necessary.
    Hi @Robert McClenon
Thanks for pointing that out. The user has now been notified on his talk page: User talk:Jayanthkumar123#Dispute resolution notification. Apologies for missing this step earlier.
On a side note, this has also been earlier notified through the talk page on the topic to the user: Talk:RRR#Inclusion of acclaim by filmmakers for RRR
We look forward to your kind thoughts towards a resolution. Thanks. SaibaK (talk) 06:47, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Zeroth statement by possible moderator (RRR)

    [edit]

So far, only the filing editor has responded. Rather than close the case due to lack of response, I will provide one more opportunity for the other editor to agree to moderated discussion. Please read DRN Rule E and state whether you agree to follow those rules, and whether you understand that the contentious topics procedure is in effect because the subject matter is about India. The purpose of moderated discussion is to improve the article. Please specify what changes you want to make to the article, including what paragraph and what wording, that the other editor does not want, or what you want to leave the same that the other editor wants to change.

If both editors reply within 48 hours, we will begin moderated discussion. Otherwise I will provide advice to the filing editor on what to do next. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:57, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Hi @Robert McClenon
Thanks for the note. Yes, I agree with following DRN Rule E and understand that the contentious topics procedure is in effect.
    -------------------
As you advised above, am including below the change that I would request for inclusion in the wikipedia article of RRR (note: citations for each are giving in the section after that).
    ------------------
    Reception by international filmmakers
Steven Spielberg praised RRR, saying "I couldn't believe my eyes – it was like eye candy...it was extraordinary to look at and experience." Rajamouli said in response "I can almost get up from the chair and do a dance – it means a lot to me." [1] (citation in section below)
James Cameron said that he liked RRR so much that he watched it twice and praised the screenplay, direction and music direction of the movie. [2] (citation in section below)
JJ Abrams said that he loves the ‘fever dream madness’ of RRR as he introduced SS Rajamouli at LA’s Chinese Theatre.[3] (citation in section below)
Edgar Wright said that RRR was "an absolute blast" and said it was "The only film I have ever seen where the intermission card itself got a round of applause." [4] (citation in section below)
Christopher Miller has praised RRR, describing it as "like Michael Bay and Baz Luhrmann and Stephen Chow teamed up to make a movie. It was 3 hours long but it could have been 4 hours and I would’ve still enjoyed it." [5] (citation in section below)
Adam McKay publicly expressed support to RRR for the Oscar awards race. [6] (citation in section below)
James Gunn said that about RRR that he "Totally dug it." [7] (citation in section below)
Russo Brothers have publicly expressed their appreciation for RRR and its director SS Rajamouli . Joe Russo mentioned “I’ve seen RRR, and it’s amazing." He further mentions "What I think is so amazing about [RRR] is the emotion it evokes, combined with the spectacle."[8][9] (citation in section below)
Scott Derrickson tweeted "To celebrate my birthday last night, my wife, kids and I watched @RRRMovie — what an awesomely outrageous roller coaster of a movie. Loved it"[10] (citation in section below)
Joe Dante called RRR a brutal portrait that depicts the horrors of British colonisation and said that "I bet you’ve never seen anything quite like it" [11] (citation in section below)
Jason Blum expressed his expectations that RRR could win Best Picture Oscar 2023 [12] (citation in section below)
Daniel Kwan lauded the film, saying "While a lot of the blockbusters we're making in the states tend to have self aware, cheeky characters trapped in self-serious filmmaking, RRR was all heart-on-its-sleeve sincerity wrapped up in the most ridiculous over the top execution. So much to love." [13] (citation in section below)
