Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Pakistan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Pakistan. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Pakistan|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Pakistan. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

I draftified this BLP, but the creator Gopikakaa (talk · contribs) reverted my draftification and bypassed the AFC review. I asked on their talk page if this was a WP:UPE, but they haven’t responded. But their editing suggests it may be UPE, as they’re trying to create a BLP for a ROTM actress who clearly fails GNG and has only had minor roles in a few TV dramas, which means she doesn’t meet NACTOR either. The BLP relies on unreliable sources and this is Gopikakaa's only article. — Saqib (talk I contribs) 16:20, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Outside of a few announcements of its launch, the only other sources I am finding are from ARY itself. Nothing that could be significant coverage, only verification that it exists. A good WP:ATD would be a redirect to ARY Digital Network. CNMall41 (talk) 07:51, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2024 Afghanistan–Pakistan skirmishes (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

Delete or merge whatever else content on this page to Afghanistan–Pakistan border skirmishes. Per below and WP:REDUNDANTFORK.

This is just an un-needed fork for a page we already have. Not only that, but this page has heavy content from other groups such as the BLA, or TTP, which are scopes completely irrelevant to this topic alone. This page is named "2024 Afghanistan-Pakistan Skirmishes", but also only covers the March 2024 border Skirmishes, when there has also been skirmishes last month in September, which is included in the Afghanistan–Pakistan border skirmishes page. Noorullah (talk) 23:23, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Noorullah21, there has already been a concenus on this article that it should remain Waleed (talk) 02:19, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@M Waleed Firstly, there was sockpuppets involved in the original AFD, go back to it to see blocked accounts. Secondly, I never brought up WP:REDUNDANTFORK. Noorullah (talk) 03:23, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete according to WP:REDUNDANTFORK. As mentioned, the incidents listed here are already mentioned in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border skirmishes page. There haven't been any incidents this year that are themselves more notable than incidents any other year to warrant this being its own article independent of the main article on this topic. And, yeah, looking at the previous AfD discussion, there seems to have been at least a little bit of sockpuppetry going on? One of the main arguments that was made in favour of keeping the article was that it contains proper sources, which is true, but those sources would be no less proper in the main article. There's no reason for this article to exist, and there's no reason to merge because, as already pointed out, the information here is already in the main article. There is insufficient in-depth coverage of this individual to meet the criteria outlined in WP:GNG. This individual has never won a provincial or national election. The page's author holds the view that election candidates are inherently notable, regardless of whether they win. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 23:12, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: People, Politicians, Law, Politics, and Pakistan. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 23:12, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All the sources are secondary as per WP:GNG, the article is start class and is barely in-depth after the changes, are you still arguing for it to be deleted despite it no longer including primary sources and only containing news reports as sources? Also he isn’t just a candidate, he is the General Secretary of Pakistan’s largest political party and the CEO of a human rights organization. Titan2456 (talk) 00:14, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He is the provincial general secretary of his political party, nominated by his colleague Asad Umar. It raises the question: how many provincial general secretaries of any Pakistani political party, who have never been elected to public office, currently have Wikipedia articles? Although, this point may not hold much significance. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 00:21, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Delete Article does not have significant coverage to meet WP:GNG even though they are elected as local official

Per this clause under Notability for politician and judges "Just being an elected local official, or an unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability, although such people can still be notable if they meet the general notability guideline." Tesleemah (talk) 06:33, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete: While I have concerns that the nominator is a POV pusher and has a biased agenda, is doing their best to attack anything related to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. However, I have to agree with their nomination in this case, as this BLP doesn't meet NPOLITICIAN and clearly doesn't come close to passing the GNG, either. — Saqib (talk I contribs) 06:42, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tesleemah He has never been elected to a local office either, so you might want to reconsider and change your vote to “Delete”. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 11:46, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
According to the article, he is the General Secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)'s Sindh chapter. I'm still keeping my vote as soft/weak delete Tesleemah (talk) 13:00, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tesleemah Being the general secretary of a political party is not considered a local elected office. When WP:NPOL refers to local elected office, it means positions like mayor or city council member. Furthermore, even as general secretary, he was appointed by another party official, not elected. Fails WP:NEVENT. Should be merged into Terrorist incidents in Pakistan in 2024 like other similar incidents. Wikibear47 (talk) 07:28, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Weak merge. Not a lot here that can’t be contained in the list article easily. If it does prove notable through depth and length of coverage - which, there are some indications this might, it can always be re-split out. I oppose draftifying because there’s no problems solved there not solved by a merger. Pakistan specifically only very rarely has long term coverage of events that would receive retrospective coverage in many other countries. But this one seems quite severe so it could change. PARAKANYAA (talk) 20:26, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
merge to the Terrorist incidents in Pakistan in 2024 article since that suggestion was sockstriked PARAKANYAA (talk) 23:16, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Change vote to redirect. Even if there's nothing to merge I find maintaining the link as a redirect makes it clearer to future readers that there was once a page there. PARAKANYAA (talk) 01:59, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The BLP was created in the main namespace and later draftified by Maliner. The creator then submitted it for review, but later unilaterally moved the BLP back to the main namespace, to avoid AFC review process. So I feel compelled to take this to AFD so the community can decide whether it should remain or be deleted. IMO, it fails both GNG and NAUTHOR, as none of the works are notable enough. — Saqib (talk I contribs) 08:03, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The first source is clearly under WP:NEWSORGINDIA and not reliable for notability. GQ is a good verification it exists, but not significant (it is included in a list of shows).--CNMall41 (talk) 00:42, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Happymaza, Not sure what this source is and cannot locate anything on the Waybackmachine.
  • The International News, references says nothing about the series.
  • News18, typical churnalism as we see often. Falls under WP:NEWSORGINDIA and cannot be used to establish notability.
  • Dawn, as with The International News source, says nothing about the series. In fact, the reference is used to support an award nomination and the reference doesn't even support that.
  • GQ India, probably the only source that comes close to significant coverage. It is one of of seven series listed in a listicle and has one paragraph (five sentences) with a brief overview.
  • The Tribune, also falls under NEWSORGINDIA. But, even if it was bylined, the source only contains one mention of the series where the writer was nominated for an award.
