There's this which has a great free image and a nice Napoleon link (but not that Napoleon). Also potentially this: William H. Herriman though not as interesting. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:45, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

More great work. Had a quick look and the painting is surely worth a DYK. Probably Herriman too. No internet here for best part of two days, so I've work to do first. Edwardx (talk) 10:57, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
I hope you made the best of your enforced Wikibreak. They tell me there is a whole world outside of cyberspace but I think this is real and that is made up. Philafrenzy (talk) 11:06, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Dave Goulson

Hello! Your submission of Dave Goulson at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Yoninah (talk) 23:31, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Hitler

It's nice of The Lady to make clear that Hitler wasn't solely responsible for the decline of that Bumblebee, particularly since he tried to bomb their offices during the war. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:14, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Seems like they know how to bear a grudge (wrong joke, bear's grease hook due tomorrow). Not done a Hitler hook before. Also just done Sergent Blandan and New Burlington Street, where I've given two choices. As always, tweaks and ALTs are welcome. Edwardx (talk) 23:33, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

DYK nomination of New Burlington Street

Too late? Philafrenzy (talk) 23:35, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. Nominated just in time! Edwardx (talk) 23:50, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Brill. Pity to waste it. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:52, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Indeed. That's what the list at the top of my userpage is for, but it only works if I actually add a note of the article, which I failed to do for this one. Anyway, I'm quite pleased with my effort, as hopefully people will click on it wanting to know the answer to the riddle. Edwardx (talk) 23:56, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
I'm sure they will. There is Moire and Herriman, to neither of which much can be added, and possibly Maitland Armstrong if I can expand it enough. Thought he was a minor diplomat - turns out to be a giant of stained glass design. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:02, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello. Please note that an editor has removed the entire list of donors to the Beverly Hills 9/11 Memorial Garden twice. Please see our discussion on the talkpage if interested.Zigzig20s (talk) 08:25, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. Alas, as Wikipedia is meant to be a summary of human knowledge, the list of donors is of very minor significance. I can't think of a strong argument to support adding it back into the article. The editor who has removed it is an experienced admin, and whilst anyone can be wrong, his/her actions seem not unreasonable. Edwardx (talk) 10:40, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
But is entirely privately funded; it is ON the monument; and those are not random people at all...This baffles me.Zigzig20s (talk) 11:45, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of John Crittle, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Dandie Fashions. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 12:48, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

That is indeed so, as that is my starting point. But, I'm now altering and expanding it, so it will soon be rather less similar. Edwardx (talk) 12:54, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Coordinates

Hi, can you try to find the coordinates for the streets so people can check out on google? I just added them to Chiswell Street. Try googling it and wikimapia which often has coordinates. If not, find it on google maps and locate it on here and click Bing maps with labels.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:36, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. I've just added some to Whitecross Street, London. I'm trying to improve our coverage of streets around the Barbican Centre in time for Wikimania! Edwardx (talk) 22:46, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Coverage of any London streets in general is always a good thing! Keep up the good work!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:30, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Maps

We seem to lack a map showing the fine detail of the City of London boundaries. There are these:

Philafrenzy (talk) 06:25, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

The article Beech Street has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable road that fails relevant WP:GNG and road notability guidelines

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Secret account 02:47, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

  • It's here: WP:GEOROAD which basically says it's just the usual criteria of general notability. The answer is to include the historical stuff even for a stub. There can't be many London streets where there isn't plenty of material. Even the least promising ones I have done have been quite expandable. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:09, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Marty Breslau, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You are welcome to edit the page to fix this problem, but please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. As well as removing promotional phrasing, it helps to add factual encyclopaedic information to the page, and add citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

Thank you. --Cargeek100 (talk) 20:15, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for reviewing Prawn cocktail, steak and Black Forest gateau, Edwardx.

Unfortunately NearEMPTiness has just gone over this page again and unreviewed it. Their note is:

I propose to use a photograph more traditional prawn cocktail from the 1980ies. This one looks 21st century to me.

To reply, leave a comment on NearEMPTiness's talk page.

I would also prefer such a photo. Alas, I Couldn't find anything suitable on Commons when I last edited the article (I was the article creator, not the reviewer). Edwardx (talk) 09:00, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

DYK

You have created a lot of articles recently but put none in the DYK queue? Philafrenzy (talk) 23:10, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. I've added four more - deadline for each is 22 July. They are all at least somewhat interesting people. Will do the Fann Street Foundry nom later today. John Crittle had 4500 hits yesterday. Edwardx (talk) 10:42, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
I assume you are aware of this: http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Wikimania_2014_London_Guidebook which does not seem to go down below district level. Streets might be a good focus over the next month? Philafrenzy (talk) 11:14, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
Yes, corner of Whitecross and Errol Streets, before you ask. Made a few corrections earlier today. Having looked for Oxford Street, as far as I can see, there's not a single London street article on Wikivoyage. Maybe it's not something they do, and people will look WP anyway? Alas, I know little about how Wikivoyage works. Edwardx (talk) 13:09, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
You will have to give me the question as well as the answer. There might be options to link between Wikipedia and Wikivoyage. It might be worth raising with the steering group at WMUK. Wikivoyage seems quite developed, at least for London. Philafrenzy (talk) 13:15, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
The question was, "Where is the nearest Waitrose? As for WP and WV, see: Wikivoyage:Cooperating_with_Wikipedia My best guess is that we should continue to start and develop articles on the nearby streets on WP. Most people are more likely to use WP than WV anyway. Edwardx (talk) 13:30, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
Ah, I have no need of directions, I just follow the posh-scruffy people. You can't miss them with their wrinkled chinos. Indeed, WP for the detailed street articles. Philafrenzy (talk) 13:59, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Has a giant plug and socket. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:20, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

And Lady Jane (boutique) may interest you. (I didn't know about the saucier aspects of the shop when I started the article, honestly!) Philafrenzy (talk) 01:09, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
Fine work. London '60s fashion is proving to be a rich seam of entertaining content. I've added both to my DYK noms list, and forsee giant plug and socket and models changing in the window hooks. Or perhaps, Lady Jane led to Sweet Fanny Adams and Pussy Galore, as an ALT. Edwardx (talk) 10:48, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
"Lady Jane led to Sweet Fanny Adams and Pussy Galore" - genius - most clickable hook ever. I note Milo Moire did 10,000. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:56, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

Essential, however, to compare the auto-completed details and the actual book in the window. Often the publisher, year etc differ. It is the one we are looking at on screen that we should be using in our refs. I have been meaning to mention it to you! Philafrenzy (talk) 21:42, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello! Your submission of Template:Did you know nominations/Ganton Street at the Did You Know nominations page is not complete; see step 3 of the nomination procedure. If you do not want to continue with the nomination, tag the nomination page with {{db-g7}}, or ask a DYK admin. Thank you. DYKHousekeepingBot (talk) 09:07, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

I thought that I had added it to the nominations page; apparently not. Anyway, I've done so now. Edwardx (talk) 11:26, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Alfred W. Blomfield requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. There's a lot of advertising but Betty May came out of the first one I looked at. Strong on clubs, reminiscences etc. Good for details of raids on brothels. Doesn't mention the names of the customers tho. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:09, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
Mark Palmer came from skimming the index of a Stones' biography. I've just realised that he gets mentioned in the index of Keith's Life, but "Palmer, Mark" doesn't draw the eye quite like "Palmer, Sir Mark". Edwardx (talk) 12:18, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
