Ganton Street
[edit]- ... that London's Ganton Street features a giant plug and socket (pictured) that lights up at night?
- Comment: Not a self-nomination

- Date, length OK, article well referenced, no copyvio, image free to use. But the link does not say that it lights up at night. How about an ALT, say, that it has changed colour several times? --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 17:07, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- The linked page includes two pictures of it lit up, in addition to the one in the article. Philafrenzy (talk) 17:31, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- I too can see that it lights up. Just at night or also during the day? Sorry, but the link does not fully confirm the hook. --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 19:19, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- A Google image search suggests just at night. The hook does not say it only lights up at night, just that it does and that is confirmed in the link. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:37, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- My understanding is that the hook has to be supported by the text in a source, rather than by a conclusion drawn from an illustration (is that OR?). The rules do not seem to be clear on this; perhaps an admin could advise. It's a pity because there are more interesting hooks that could be created from the text in this source that would not lead to this problem. --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 08:09, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
- There's no need to confirm self-evident facts. We can use a bit of common sense about these things surely? Philafrenzy (talk) 10:38, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
- Oh that life were so simple! You might be interested to have a look at a recent discussion on the use of photographs as evidence here. --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 07:49, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- I've added another source that uses the phrase, "lights up at night". Edwardx (talk) 23:27, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks. Just what was needed. --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 08:13, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
