Book-Class & Star Wars project

Their banner uses |QUALITY_SCALE=inline. How do you modify that one to accomodate the book-class? Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 03:33, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Just add |book=yes below the existing |template=yes. --Tothwolf (talk) 05:31, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
What I thought, just wanted to double check that the Moon wasn't gonna explode. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 05:59, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Nah, that only happens if the moon is in a certain phase when you add a TF and someone reverts you. Alderaan on the other hand...well... ;) --Tothwolf (talk) 06:28, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Book-Class and Ships project

You knew I was coming didn't you? :) The conversation about book class for wpships is here. No controversy and no hurry but we need the new class coded in. PC78 you are most awesome! --Brad (talk) 10:00, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

I've got it working in the sandbox. PC78 (talk) 14:29, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. It has already been implemented. --Brad (talk) 00:25, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

A new problem has arisen with book class and the template. Please see Template_talk:WikiProject_Ships#Problem. There was already one attempt to fix this but it's being done with an axe instead of your nice paintbrush. --Brad (talk) 01:11, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Moving from standard to "standard +book"

For example Template:WikiProject U.S. Presidents uses |QUALITY_SCALE=standard. What should the /class page be to accomodate the "standard" classes (whatever they are) + the book class? Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 21:28, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Easier to show you by doing [1]; /class subpages aren't always necessary. The "standard" classes are the usual FA/A/GA/B/C/Start/Stub/FL/List plus NA-Class. PC78 (talk) 17:50, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
I want to do the same for Template:WikiProject Animals, but there's something weird going on with the class parameter. Could you take a look at it? Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 22:43, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
 Done — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:49, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello PC78! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 691 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. WP:ACTOR and non-standard Filmographies (redux)

Hi. I just read the long thread at:

I've stumbled into this issue during the last few days, having worked on maybe 20 filmographies attempting to clean-up poor markup and styling.

I think the time has come to sort the issue of non-standard styling in the name of a wikiproject. The whole initiative originating there reeks of article ownership, wikiprojects as "governing" bodies, and impeding site accessibility in the name of meretricious appearance.

I think the appropriate outcome is filmographies either implemented as bog-standard wikitables, or a suite of templates/css that allow central control of the styling (i.e. to site-wide conventions).

The current point of discussion is at:

I hope to see you there.

During a recent AFD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/A Ghost Story of Joseon Dynasty, I checked the article history and learned that back in June 0f 2009, you set a redirect from Ghosts of Chosun to A Ghost Story of Joseon Dynasty diff. In my research during the AFD, I learned that the longer title was an informal early title, and the shorter title is its offical international release title... and that the shorter title has a far greater searchability for sourcing than does the longer. Might you consider moving the long title back to the shorter? And then setting a new redirect from the long title to the shorter? Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 02:09, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Image cleanup listing

I hope you are doing well. I'm asking all of the coordinators who haven't already taken a look at the spotlight image cleanup listing to consider leaving comments on the images. I'd like to get the ball rolling on either keeping or removing the images from the articles, but we need more than one or two comments to ensure there is consensus. I'm sure we all the know the importance of our project's spotlight articles, and if we don't have proper examples, new editors may make MOS mistakes (say that five times fast!) if they're referring to what should be our project's best articles (which may actually conflict with MOSFILM). I plan on asking the uploaders of the images and the main article contributors to join in as well later this week. If you have any questions at all, please let me know. --Happy editing! You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 23:28, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

re: Category:Cinema of templates

Hello. Sorry for not getting back to you straight away - busy/needed to formualte a reply! I see your point, however, I think these templates "idiot-proof" the article by automatically adding the country to the categories. You'd be surprised (or maybe not!) to see how many American films, for example, are not in the parent category of Category:American films. They may well be in the sub-cats (American comedy films, etc, etc), but not in the main one (per WP:FILMCAT). Then there are other issues with the infobox; still plenty of articles using the country's flag, the language being piped when it doesn't need to be. I see this template as good as that pesky new film date one. Why use that one too, if it adds the category (which can be done manually) and we can't link to dates either? No doubt, the debates will rage on! Lugnuts (talk) 07:01, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm, I just think that there is a very dubious value in a series of templates that merely add a bit of text and a category; they aren't particuarly intuitive, and it would be just as easy to type out the text and add the category manually. Perhaps I should dust off some old code that would have the infobox do this by itself? PC78 (talk) 11:20, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for helping to sort out the infobox on the above mentioned page, I was just wondering if you know how to or could help me get the signiture that I have uploaded below the infobox into the infobox, i am teaching myself how to use wikipedia but find the info boxes quite restrictive ie you can only add info that the particular infobox lets you, I have seen a signiture in an infobox within an infobox but not sure about doing that, and I think his page should have an aviator infobox so dont want to change that, if you or anyone else could help that would be great Jimmy3d0 (talk) 12:41, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

C.W.A. Scott

Thankyou for your help the infobox is so much better now! I agree that the signiture would be better if it were more like 220px or whatever size makes it span the whole infobox, how would you change that ? I tried just adding |220px after the file name like you would on an image insert but nothing happend, do you have to change at source ei on ite wikimedia page? I know there are discrepencies on the page but I am working on them, I know that he did marry a third time as he was my great Uncle and my second cousin has the documents to prove it but I havent mannaged to get to his place to scan everything yet, everything on the page so far is stuff I have researched myself on the internet and in books, for instance I only found all the newspaper articals (on the net) about his second wife last week, after i had found her name in an old photo album at my parents house. the error in saying " he was 42 years old" is that of the auther, Arther Swinson, I'm not sure what I should do about that as I cant change a quote from his book and call it an excerpt but it is equally wrong having false info on the page, maybe I should just add another note saying he misscalculated his age at time of death? Infobox dancer and Infobox artist

Could you help in changing the code of Template:Infobox dancer so it supports |birth_place= and |death_place= instead of |cityofbirth=, |countryofbirth=, etc.?

Template:Infobox artist needs |birth_place= to be added as alternative of |location=. -- Magioladitis (talk) 13:36, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

I've added duplicate parameter names to {{Infobox artist}}, but it might be best to wait a while and see if the changes stick before doing anything else. {{Infobox dancer}} has relatively few transclusions and could do with a complete overhall, so I'll have a look at that later. Hi PC78 - I've added a section on the co-ordinators page here. Input welcome. Lugnuts (talk) 08:22, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Regarding the {{italic title}} template in the film infobox, why is it not working for most film articles that have disambiguation terms? (It works for articles without disambiguation terms.) I thought that it was not working for all articles, but then I saw very occasional examples like Revolver (film) and Adulthood (film) that had their titles italicized. I had thought that it was a matter of server processing or similar like that, but it seems like by now all of these articles' titles should be italicized. Is it still just taking time or what? Infobox Luxembourg commune

I performed the initial steps by converting the backend of the template, and adding the min/max elevation ranks to the parent template. It appears as though the next step is to substitute it, but I personally would not be opposed to leaving it as a wrapper for {{Infobox commune}}, but substitution would work as well. It calls some other templates for the elevation, population, mayor, and area data, which allows for these data to be updated in a central location. Let me know if you have any comments. Thanks! Hello. Hope you're having a nice day. I seem to have come across something I find rather odd and thought you might know the answer. After the rearrangement of the Claudine pages, I was attempting to fix all the links incoming to the dab page. However, I can't for the life of me figure out this. All the links from Claudine (album) redirect to Claudine (disambiguation) however I believe all if not almost all of these items are Curtis Mayfield album pages that should point directly to Claudine (soundtrack). Despite the fact that this appears to be a simple fix, I can't for the life of me figure out where the links are on any of the Curtis Mayfield pages. I think perhaps it might be an error in the albums template, see here but I can't see anything amiss. I thought perhaps you might have some idea what's going on. Thanks, -France3470 (talk) 12:19, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

The links will either be coming from the nav template or the infobox. I see the nav template has already been updated, but it may take a while for the "Pages that link to.." page to update. PC78 (talk) 12:40, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay. Yes, I think I did see the correction to the nav template. But isn't four days kind of a long time? -France3470 (talk) 12:43, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
It can sometimes take weeks, but it should be fine now. I fixed another half dozen links as well. PC78 (talk) 00:07, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

country

you wrote: "Country" simply means "country", i.e. where the film is from. PC78

Are you aware that this is not how the Country field is supposed to be used according to the current guidelines? On one level, I agree with your view, but there are two serious problems with this apparently simple assertion in the context of our discussion: 1. the guidelines say that Country does NOT refer to where a film is from; they say that Country means this: where the main production company is located. 2. it actually is not simple to determine where a film is from in many many cases. I consider 2 the lesser problem, but it does make your view a little bit problematic for me to be on board about. Thanks. --Ring Cinema (talk) 03:22, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Timeline of thermodynamics template

I just reverted your move of the link to timeline of thermodynamics in the Herman von Helmholtz article but have now noticed that you have done a whole batch of these. I think this is a bit of a mistake, hatnotes are meant for guidance of readers who might not be at the right article or exactly the right article. This link is not any kind of disambiguation and it is unlikely that a reader typing "Herman von Helmholtz" or following that link was really looking for "timeline of thermodynamics". They may, however, be interested and the link makes a suitable "See also" or else can be incorporated in the body of an article. Do you have some other reasoning for making this change? SpinningSpark 08:37, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

It was done off the back of the TfD discussion, with some follow up here, where there was some enthusiasm for "de-uglifying" the templates and relocating them. They are essentially just glorified "see also" links, so the hatnote styling is not inappropriate; dablinks may be hatnotes, but hatnotes need not necessarily be dablinks. PC78 (talk) 11:44, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Agreed hatnotes are not necessarily dab links but that does not amount to a justification for making this template a hatnote. I also agree that in essence it is a "see also" link, but these links have never been article hatnotes. "See also" by convention and MoS has its own section. The "see also" template says in its documentation it is intended to be inserted at the head of article sections. Basically, my objection is that putting them at the head of the article is an unecessary distraction for the reader prior to getting on with the article they actually want to read. Placing them at the head of an appropriate section serves a similar purpose to {{main}} but otherwise the link should be at the foot of the article as normal. You provided the wrong link by the way, but having found the right debate, it does not exactly support your practice of placing the template at the head of articles. SpinningSpark 12:33, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
In some case, the template already was placed at the top of the article. It's a pity there was only limited participation in the TfD, but there was a clear concensus between those participating for some kind of change, and my suggestion of a hatnote was supported by Dhollm. Perhaps as you say the hatnote works best for sections, otherwise a link should be placed in a "see also" section at the foot of the article. PC78 (talk) 13:53, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Kennewick

I thought it odd that you used Kennewick and excuse me for asking this but do you live in the Tri-cities? I grew up there myself in Pasco. --Kumioko (talk) 02:41, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Heh, no, I just used the example from the documentation. :D PC78 (talk) 09:20, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

The Presidents of the United States of America template

Hey, thanks for moving the template. It somehow got moved to the "controversial moves" section (Anthony Appleyard's doing, I believe). Could I ask you one more favor? At the same time I listed The Presidents' template in the uncontroversial section, I listed a move request for Template:TheOffspring to Template:The Offspring because the band name is two words not CamelCase. For some reason, this was outright denied by the arbiter (Anthony Appleyard again, I believe). Cheers! Wikkitywack (talk) 09:56, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

I can't move it myself because the other page title has an existing page history, but I have put it back in the uncontroversial section. It's hard to gauge Anthony's intentions from his edit summary, but if he contests the move he should at least move it to the controversial section, as he did with the other template (which, incidentally, I didn't know he had done, though in either case it's not at all obvious what the supposed controversy is). PC78 (talk) 10:12, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Cool, thanks! Wikkitywack (talk) 10:23, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Spin Kick

I deleted 'Spin Kick' because, once all the copyvio was gone, it wasn't an article. It was just raw unformatted information.

CSD exist as a guide, but it's not compulsory that they be followed. I don't usually bother with remembering the numerical codes because I know what they all mean.

People infobox templates

I'm planning on going through the infoboxes as Category:People infobox templates and converting those that don't already to use {{Infobox}}, so if you spot any others in there that you think are worth merging then sooner rather than later would be good. {{Infobox sports announcer}} may be worth nominating as it's not used on very many articles. I think I'll be looking at {{Infobox comedian}} and {{Infobox writer}}. first. -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:53, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

{{Infobox writer}} looks like a good merge candidate, but I'd be surprised if it went without a fight, if at all. Maybe {{Infobox comedian}}, but that may need a bit more thought. {{Infobox Playboy Cyber Girl}} and {{Infobox Playboy Playmate}} are perhaps worth merging into {{Infobox model}}, but it may be best to see how the merge discussion for {{Infobox pageant titleholder}} pans out first. {{Infobox pirate}} seems to be based on {{Infobox military person}}, so perhaps there is basis for a merge there. PC78 (talk) 20:55, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
I just noticed that you merged a couple infoboxes for military folks. Do you have code that does that or are you doing that manually? --Kumioko (talk) 20:57, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Manually. I'm working from a list, hence AWB. PC78 (talk) 20:58, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
How big is the list may I ask. I might be able to craft some regex code to do that but it will likely require some tweaking as we go. --Kumioko (talk) 01:32, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Not very big at all. I only found twenty-something intersections of {{infobox person}} and {{infobox military person}}, and I'm already about halfway through. PC78 (talk) 06:36, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh ok thanks. --Kumioko (talk) 12:32, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi PC78. While I don't have any problem with the method you used at the power station infobox, could you explain why is it a bad idea to increase the rows in the main Infobox Template, at least to 100 rows? Please explain here. This is just for my knowledge, no offence or disagreement. Kind regards. Rehman(+) 11:08, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Just saw your message there. Thanks, I understand now. Maybe a round figure 100 will be preferred one day though ;) Kind regards. Rehman(+) 11:11, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Bombay High

Well, um, Bombay High was a film launched in 2007 produced by UTV with Tabu playing the lead role. The film later was shelved and they started Season's Greetings with the same actress. So technically, it could have been either deleted or redirected. Universal Hero (talk) 12:37, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Since you have recently commented on the type/color of one or more "expand" templates, could you express your opinion in the centralized RfC on this issue? The discussion is currently fragmented between various template and TfD pages, which makes a consensus on this issue difficult to form. Thank you, Tijfo098 (talk) 08:44, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Poke. If you want to make changes can you be quick because I'm going to have to fully protect it soon given how highly used it now is. I still think we should merge it with Template:Italic title though. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:37, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

AnyBand (single)

With reference to your recent move of the article named above. Please note WP does not disambiguate articles by the word (single), as its unreferenced with no claim of notability I have prodd'd the article, rather than request a move back to (song). Cheers.--Richhoncho (talk) 17:14, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

There is no reason why "(single)" cannot be used as a disambiguator, especially when it is the only appropriate option. I have no further interest in the article though, so I have no intention to dispute the prod. PC78 (talk) 22:15, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
