Message regarding Capricorn from TartarTorte

Hi Wugapodes! Hope all is well. I noticed that capricorn still has {{R fictional work}}, which was deleted at this TfD Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2023 May 20#R fictional work. Could you remove it when you get the chance? I think you can clean it up by cutting the R fictional work JSON entry at User:Wugapodes/Capricorn/RedirectTemplates.json. Best! Question from Matt the wiki master (19:11, 22 October 2023)

Hi, can you explain how to add a citation or how to make it say "Citation Needed" simply Thanks, Matthew Campbell --Matthew Campbell (talk) 19:11, 22 October 2023 (UTC)

@Matt the wiki master This tutorial walks you through how to add citations. For the citation needed tag, you can simply add {{citation needed}} (including the curly braces) to the text. That link also gives some additional instructions. Wug·a·po·des 20:34, 24 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from JAAMLERB (18:45, 28 October 2023)

Hi!

I'm your student, I guess. I'm excited to edit articles! --JAAMLERB (talk) 18:45, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Wikipedia outlines of books indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. plicit 14:54, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello Wugapodes:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 1100 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:25, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Request for clarification

Hi. Just saw your closure, and in my reading, it didn't appear to address what I think what was a concern.

The proposed text includes the line: "Comments that are uncivil may be removed without warning."

The problem is that is beyond what WP:CIV directs us to do. "It is not normally appropriate to edit or remove another editor's comment. Exceptions include to remove obvious trolling or vandalism, or if the comment is on your own user talk page. Derogatory comments about another contributor may be removed by any editor."

I understand that this can be a question of semantics (uncivil vs. derogatory). But having editors boldly removing others' comments can lead to rather disruptive situations, as we've seen at WP:AN and its sub-boards.

So with that all in mind, what is your read of the discussion concerning enforcement and application of CIVIL, and whether this RFC is authorizing editors to go beyond what CIVIL says to do? - jc37 00:10, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

@Jc37: The proposal says that uncivil comments may be removed, and your quote from WP:RUC includes three classes of uncivil comments which may be removed. I don't think it's correct to characterize the former as going beyond what the latter advises. CIV is a policy after all, so I don't see why this local consensus should be read as anything more strict. So if your question is whether this authorizes more than what's already in CIV: no, definitely not. The sense I got from the discussion is that it's being read as a short summary of CIV (with many in both support and opposition seeing it as redundant to the policy), not some new thing, so when in doubt refer to CIV. It might be worth rephrasing the wording to something like Uncivil comments such as trolling or personal attacks may be removed... but that wasn't discussed and can be done pretty easily through regular editing. I'd hesitate to add that wording to the close, but I think it would be an improvement personally. Wug·a·po·des 01:17, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarification.
For now, I just added links to CIVIL and NPA. Hopefully that should be clear enough.
Thanks again : ) - jc37 03:18, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

  • Xaosflux, RoySmith and Cyberpower678 have been appointed to the Electoral Commission for the 2023 Arbitration Committee Elections. BusterD is the reserve commissioner.

Question from Rishi 'Surname' (18:56, 26 November 2023)

I want to add some caste related information, so, that everyone should know this thing and change their views about the caste .. --Rishi 'Surname' (talk) 18:56, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi Rishi 'Surname' I would suggest you avoid editing articles related to castes until you have more experience with editing Wikipedia. The topic is contentious and even editors who are trying to help can be asked by an administrator to stop if they accidentally cause problems. I would recommend trying out the newcomer tasks like adding links or citations until you get more experience with our editorial policies. Wug·a·po·des 00:40, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Morty.tama (20:34, 15 November 2023)

hi wuga, i want to contribute in wikipedia. for starting, i want t o edit some articles and add some citation(when needed) or add some new parts or sentences. i edited my first article but it disapeard. what should i do ? --Morty.tama (talk) 20:34, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi Morty.tama and thanks for your contributions! It looks like some of your more recent edits have stuck around. The reason your first edit disappeared is because entries to your list articles usually need to already have their own separate articles. So while your edit had a citation, it was removed because there was no article on the topic. Hopefully that helps! And I look forward to your contributions! Question from Agottworth (17:44, 13 November 2023)

I like being able to contribute to things that are missing or fix/update things, but a little overwhelmed by all the features and rules. What's the most simple way to edit things? And what are the main rules to follow? --Agottworth (talk) 17:44, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi Agottworth and welcome! I left a message on your talk page with a short tutorial that should help you with how to edit and some of our more important rules. Happy editing! Wug·a·po·des 00:49, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

Badly behaved sock

Hi, Wugapodes. Bishzilla knows she's not supposed to post in Wikipedia space, but sometimes she nevertheless does. Sigh. Feel free to ignore/remove the question she just posted on your candidate questions page — I'm sure you have enough to do without looking up that particular ancient history. Bishonen | tålk 14:57, 26 November 2023 (UTC).

Hi Bishonen My understanding of WP:PROJSOCK is that undisclosed alternative accounts are (with limited exception) forbidden from participating in project space, but since Bishzilla is a declared alternate account, I don't see why she can't participate. She even has her own carve out at Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry#Legitimate uses. It's an interesting piece of history I wasn't aware of, and I've found it an educational read as I dig into the various discussions. Hopefully you find the answer as interesting if long. Wug·a·po·des 00:04, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
Very interesting indeed, Wugapodes, thank you. Note, by "not supposed to", I was referring to my personal rules for my sockfarm, not to WP:PROJSOCK, which I was only vaguely aware of. The socks are not supposed to pop up all over the place and annoy people, and the other lot generally don't. Bishzilla does. Bishonen | tålk 02:39, 27 November 2023 (UTC).

November music

November songs
my story today

Vacation pictures offered if you click on songs, and my story today is a DYK hook from 13 years ago OTD: about the great music at one of my churches. Mozart's Requiem to come on Sunday, coupled with Arvo Pärt's Da pacem Domine, - I guess you might come if it was a bit closer. Perhaps watch the video of our last production, our first on yt, ever. --(forgot to sign yesterday)

Thank you for standing to continue as arbitrator! My story today is Canticle I: My beloved is mine and I am his, - the composer, born OTD 110 years ago, didn't want it shorter (but the publisher), - more here. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:01, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for a reply to my cand question. I may discuss it after tomorrow's concert when we will sing the Mozart and listen to Pärt's urgent call for peace played by the strings, - I'm not in the mood before ;) - I mentioned Pärt for a reason, could have been Beethoven as well, in other words: I believe it's time for a fresh look, as we were told 10 years ago. - Your draft looks like the most productive effort in the field, - thank you. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:22, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Sindhi Manhon (14:02, 22 November 2023)

Hi, could you please guide me on what I should write on my User Page? Thank you! --Sindhi Manhon (talk) 14:02, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

@Sindhi Manhon: Your user page looks good to me! Most editors use their user page to talk about what they like editing, list links to pages they find interesting or want to edit, and maybe say about about their personal interests. It looks like you did a good job of that! Wug·a·po·des 00:36, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
