Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to Panipuri, but we cannot accept original research. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Yamaguchi先生 (talk) 18:43, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Image replacement

[edit]

Please do not replace image in an infobox unless you have some good reason to so, as you have done in Jalsha Movies. If you are uploading a non-free image, you may read WP:NFCCP as well. Regards. --15:51, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:10, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:RamNath Kovind.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:RamNath Kovind.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Train2104 (t • c) 23:13, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:The Kapil Sharma Show.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Edit summaries and NPOV

[edit]

Please refrain from making abusive or otherwise inappropriate edit summaries. In a collaborative environment like Wikipedia, it's important to communicate with civility, focus on content rather than the person making an edit, and if you believe someone else is being abusive, please report them to WP:ANI instead of attacking them in edit summaries. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 22:44, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sir, I humbly apologize to you. Perhaps I was so anger-stricken and infuriated because of that person "Glcris" repeatedly vandalising the page of my region, and deleting all it's glory info, just because the extremist political party he and his region's people support, don't rule my region. That's why I abused him in the Edit Summary. I will never do this again. Apologies for my mistake.
Yet, sincere thanks to you for giving Extended-Confirmed protection status for the Indian state of West Bengal. I will keep your advices in mind and keep working for an error-free Wikipedia. Rourib Dutta (talk) 23:00, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Please strive to represent a neutral point of view as much as is possible rather than focusing primarily on promoting or defending "your side". Wikipedia is not about winning. GA nominations

[edit]

GA nominations may only be made by editors who have made a significant contribution to the article. For more detail and explanations, please read WP:Good article nominations. Cheers, · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 09:35, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Pbsouthwood Didn't you check the edit history of the Kolkata page? I have made numerous significant edits to this article. Please check the history once again. This article needs to be promoted to a good article like it's counterpart Indian city of Mumbai. Rourib Dutta (talk) 13:10, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did check on Xtools, It records 9 edits by your user name, with total of 1930 bytes added, all of them over the last month, which is not much. I will take a more detailed look at your individual edits in the page history and come back to you on this as the added byte count is inconclusive. A history of removing trivia and copy editing would be more useful as an indication that you could handle a GA. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 07:03, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I checked your 9 edits. (and cross-checked on your contributions list) They do not amount to numerous significant edits, particularly since two of them were tagging it as a good article in contravention of correct procedure, suggesting that your understanding of the good article process is lacking, which does not bode well for the success of a nomination. Before you nominate it again, you should read the comments in the featured article review in which a several issues were listed, and make sure they have been fixed sufficiently to be likely to pass GA review, otherwise you are wasting the reviewer's time. Have you checked that all the outstanding issues have been fixed? It is apparent from your edits that you have not fixed them yourself, but it is possible that someone else has done it. Getting an article of this size through GA is a lot of work for the reviewer, and in this case is likely to be a lot of work for the nominator too. If the preparation is not sufficient and the reviewer sees that outstanding problems have not been fixed it is likely to be given a 'quick fail'. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 07:34, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pbsouthwood Understood. Rourib Dutta (talk) 12:28, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You can find a link to the featured article review in which the problems are mentioned on the article talk page, under "Article milestones", in the page banners at the top. I would recommend that you read the review, and report on the talk page which items are fixed and which are still outstanding. This will make things easier for the GA reviewer, and indicate that you have done the preparation work. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 07:48, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2014 election issue

[edit]

Bro by your logic then this time also you should show Rahul Gandhi instead of Mallikarjun Kharge because he is heading Bharat jodo yatra. Even though Rahul Gandhi is unofficial pm candidate Congress doesn't declare pm candidate officially so you should show President of the party in the election Wikipedia page. In 2014 Sonia Gandhi was the president of Congress so her name should be there. Iamnoonelol (talk) 11:01, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In 2024, Mallikarjun Kharge has been nominated as PM candidate unanimously by the INDIA alliance. Whereas for the matter of fact in 2014, Sonia Gandhi was the President of INC, but she herself is ineligible to run for office as she is a foreign national (determined by place of birth), even though her citizenship is Indian. After winning 2004, she didn't become PM because everyone objected to her foreign origin. Rahul was too young at that time and hence, Manmohan Singh was chosen to lead the country.
Hence, there is no doubt, that if INC won the 2014 elections, Rahul Gandhi would have been the Prime Minister, and not Sonia, because Dr. Singh had declined to re-appear for the same. All media channels and even the BJP acknowledged that Rahul was the person standing against Modi in the election front. Please stop engaging in edit wars, and let the page remain, as it was for the last 10 years. Rourib Dutta (talk) 13:29, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi Rourib.2004. After reviewing your request, I have temporarily enabled rollback on your account until {{{expiry}}}. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! — xaosflux Talk 13:58, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Xaosflux Thanks for the time being. But, may I get to know why have I been given temporary rollback rights and not permanent? Can't I get it permanently? Please give a reasoning too. Rourib Dutta (talk) 21:02, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Rourib.2004 it is indefinite (see Special:UserRights/Rourib.2004) - I think someone is just working on that template above that made it say otherwise. — xaosflux Talk 00:07, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. Thanks a lot. Rourib Dutta (talk) 11:25, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosflux: - I think this was an error, see e.g. this and this inappropriate uses of rollback. GiantSnowman 17:27, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How is this inappropriate? You are deleting the present day name of the place and keeping only the historical name? This is vandalism according to me. Secondly, according to English grammar, "it's" is more appropriate than "its". Rourib Dutta (talk) 17:57, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NOTVAND re:place name, and 'its' is correct grammar - 'it's' means 'it is'. These are both inappropriate uses of rollback and the fact you cannot see that is merely increasing my concerns. GiantSnowman 19:07, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd really love to see this conflict deescalated, and don't expect everyone to love everything I'm writing below...
    • (@GS) As far as 'was granting rollback an "error": as the examples are post-grant, I don't see it as an granting error (as opposed to for example a series of bad undo's prior to the grant that would have indicated this editor needed more experience first). I AGF on users seeking to start doing more maintenance. Sometimes tone is hard to hear in writing, so assuming this is more of a suggestion that on reflection maybe this user shouldn't be rollbacking for a while, but I'd rather take this as a learning opportunity first.
    • (@GS) the edit you made triggering the events on example two didn't have the greatest edit summary (you get a single chip!)-- however
    • (@R2) that second diff GS mentioned above is certainly not blatant "vandalism". When reverting other editors, especially experienced contributors, you should also be communicating with them - which may have deescalated this entire issue. If you disagreed with that edit, undoing with a better summary would have been more appropriate. Once a back-and-forth has happened regarding content changes, discussing at the talk page is the most appropriate next step (see WP:BRD.
    • (@R2) in that first diff, the grammar is wrong, period. "it's" is not a possessive, it is a contraction. This would have been "bad" regardless of how you made this edit. Using rollback to made bad edits is only worse.
    • (@R2) you should generally avoid using rollback on articles where you are an author, especially if there is not blatant vandalism.
    • (@R2) please carefully reread Wikipedia:Rollback and Wikipedia:Vandalism before using this feature again.
      • (@R2)Please consider this a warning that I will reverse my discretionary grant if there is additional inappropriate use of this feature. Being told you are wrong here is certainly not pleasant -but learning from this discussion and improving will be immensely better than dragging this to WP:ANI. GS and I are both quite experienced editors who care about the project and value constructive contributors, which I hope you value as well. By using features like rollback appropriately, especially combined with good communication, you have the ability to help others (especially anonymous or new users) become constructive as well.
  • Thank you for taking the time to read all this. — xaosflux Talk 19:20, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well said - Rourib.2004 please avoid using rollback except in cases of very clear vandalism. If you do not know whether it's vandalism, err on the side of caution. GiantSnowman 19:26, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Thanks for your guidance. Rourib Dutta (talk) 21:29, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosflux Fine. I will keep this in mind. Thank you for considering that I am quite nascent and new being a rollbacker. Will study the guidelines before using rollback next time. Rourib Dutta (talk) 21:17, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look

[edit]

Hi, it is regarding Rachna Banerjee article. Someone changed her birthday here to 1968 without providing a new more reliable source, which was 1974 for quite sometime. I can't verify the accompanying source [1], that's why I did revert. Looks like the article is more about her former husband rather than her. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:39, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I read the article. It is more about her first husband and their relationship. 1968 being her birth date is unsourced therefore. Reverting it back to 1974 as IMDb website [2] confirms it. Rourib Dutta (talk) 02:19, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
IMDb is not considered reliable per WP:IMDb. Perhaps we have keep the DoB black if no reliable source is found. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:05, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The 1974 birth year data is also present in other certain news portals other than IMDb. Shall I cite their links too, in the article? Rourib Dutta (talk) 13:27, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cite them only if reliable (WP:ICTF compliant), remove the IMDb one. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:39, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
