Tagalog diacritics

[edit]

Hi, I am currently fascinated by the Tagalog language. Do you have an explanation how the diacritics used sometimes in Tagalog correspond with the stress of Tagalog? And is there and online dictionary that documents these accents! Thanks in advance! — AWESOME meeos * ([ˈjæb.ə ət məɪ])) 12:15, 12 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Tagalog trouble

[edit]

Hello, sorry to alert you again, but I want to have a few clarifications with Tagalog: IPA [ɐ] seems to be used for /a/ in unstressed syllables and stressed syllables in some word. However, I'm confused as to what constitutes for the 'stressed syllables' part. Secondly, does vowel length exist, if so, is it a phonemic and/or allophonic phenomenon? I would appreciate any answer — AWESOME meeos * ([ˈjæb.ə ət məɪ])) 04:30, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits to Swardspeak

[edit]

You edited this article to assert that swardspeak was no longer the term of fashion, but Bekimon and Bekinese remain so, while the main name should be Filipino gay lingo.

This edit, in my view, fails WP:V and WP:CITE. I find multiple instances of the word swardspeak still being used in reputable sources, as recently as 2016.[1][2][3] I did find a 2006 NCCA article[4] by Reinerio A. Alba, where they assert:

No other term has replaced swardspeak in local usage since the 70s but Ronald Baytan (in his essay “Language, Sex, and Insults: Notes on Garcia and Remoto’s The Gay Dict”) opines that the term sward these days has become anachronistic, making it improper to call the language of the gay people as “swardspeak” preferring instead to term it gayspeak.

But this isn't exactly evidence for your term, it's evidence for the term gayspeak. I therefore reverted your edit. More evidence is needed that the term has actually changed—I believe that at most both terms are being used side-by-side, with academic types tending to lean towards continuing to use the word swardspeak. So I have added the term gayspeak, given the assessment of Baytan and Alba that this term is also in use. Welcome to Wikipedia by the way. Psiĥedelisto (talk) 22:23, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Crimean War, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Eastern Front (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). IPA transcription of Tagalog words

[edit]

Hello. I see that you have recently contributed to Help:IPA/Tagalog, so I'd like to ask if you could help me with the narrow/phonetic IPA transcriptions for these Tagalog words: bilis, danas, hagibis, hagupit, imbudo, lupit, malakas, maliksi, molave, simaron, talas, talim. These are the Pacific storm names submitted by the Philippines. I want to add the entries for each of them to Thai Wiktionary. --Potapt (talk) 01:07, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. That will help me a lot, but now I have a few questions:
  • Can we predict when to pronounce /a/ as [ɐ] and [a], and when to pronounce /i/ as [ɪ] and [i]? I notice that the stressed /i/ in bilis is pronounced [ɪ] while the stressed /i/ in talim is pronounced [i]; and the unstressed /a/ in talas and talim is pronounced [ɐ], but it is pronounced [a] in simaron and hagibis.
  • In English Wiktionary, they indicate that maliksi belongs to the mabilís class. Does that mean we can pronounce it with or without the glottal stop?
  • Is hagupit pronounced [hɐgʊˈpit]? --Potapt (talk) 15:52, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again. --Potapt (talk) 22:23, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Ang Dating Daan New Logo.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ang Dating Daan New Logo.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 18:36, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Incomplete citation from Locomotive Engineers Journal

[edit]

Hi – in this edit you added this reference: {Cite journal |title=Locomotive Engineers Journal |volume=Vol. 90 |publisher=[[Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen]] |date=1956}} at 2-8-2.

It's been edited in the meantime, but it's still missing the issue number and title. (From here and here it seems that they should exist.) If you know them or are able to look them up, could you please add them? Joriki (talk) 12:58, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
