Secretary General of CSTO moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Secretary General of CSTO, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 19:19, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On 28 March 2023, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article 2023 Kazakh legislative election, which you updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. Stephen 00:57, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Malik Nursultan B. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Secretary General of CSTO".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

[edit]

I reverted your addition because the material wasn't backed by a reliable source. Per WP:BLP, contentious material about a living person should only be included if it's backed by multiple reliable sources. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them on that article's TALK. Thanks! Nemov (talk) 19:42, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Accessibility and your userpage

[edit]

Can you please change the color of your babelbox? As of right now it fails accessibility guidelines due to a lack of color contrast and it is frankly very hard to read. Thanks, Prodraxis (talk) 16:10, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Updated. Hope that the new one is a lot better
[[User:Malik Nursultan B|Nursultan Malik]]([[User talk:Malik Nursultan B|talk]]) (talk) 16:13, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks a lot better now! However, it still fails contrast thresholds for accessibility [1] Apologies for what I said earlier - upon closer inspection it does pass accessibility testing. Also, if you want your signature to be rendered as Nursultan Malik(talk), please check "treat the above as wikimarkup" in Special:preferences when changing your sig. You may also want to make Nursultan Malik a doppelganger account when doing so - it is much more favored to make your signature match your username per the signature policy. Prodraxis (talk) 16:18, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like the signature issue is solved now, thanks!
Nursultan Malik(talk) 20:04, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, yes I also just created a doppelganger account (User:Nursultan Malik). Hope it's all correct. Nursultan Malik(talk) 20:06, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Malik Nursultan B: Great! Just one more thing - can you edit your doppelganger's userpage with your main account to prove the connection though so it doesn't get blocked for impersonation accidentally? Prodraxis (talk) 20:09, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done! Thanks for helping me and all the other users out, the colors of my babelbox were not something I initially thought would be a problem, but I definitely see now. And that "signature" was not looking good and I didn't notice lol

Page move requests

[edit]

Hi there, it's me, Prodraxis, again. I've seen you leave message on a talkpage of an article about retitling or moving it to a different title here. If you want to request a page be moved, please see this page on directions on how to request a page be moved via community consensus. Thanks, Prodraxis (talk) 17:29, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I put the template, hope everything's done correctly; I'm unfortunately not too familiar with how all's done over here on English Wikipedia, so thanks for the message. Nursultan Malik(talk) 18:03, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, everything seems to be done correctly now. Always happy to help. Prodraxis (talk) 18:32, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article creation on Kazakh Wikipedia

[edit]

Hello Malik Nursultan B, I noticed that you are one of the administrators at Kazakh Wikipedia and I just wanted to ask how can I create new pages on there? I want to help out to develop the Kazakh Wikipedia in regards to making articles related to my interests in American/Western pop culture (movies, music, TV shows, etc.) in Kazakh language which is seriously absent but for some reason when I tried doing it there it would put my article under review which stays pending and never gets approved. Do you mind giving me permission to publish articles automatically like in English Wikipedia. Despite not knowing Kazakh very well, I'm trying to do my best to extend its usage and influence on the internet using Wikipedia via translating sentences from Russian and English using Google Translate and Sözdik dictionary, so apologies if my Kazakh language articles might have some grammatical flaws. My goal overall is to simply create short summary articles with infoboxes in Kazakh since it would be easier and less stressing for one person like me as way to have more search results in Kazakh and therefore encourage Kazakh speakers to use and develop the language more rather being reliant on Russian for pop culture things. It would've been best if more Kazakh speakers could promote Kazakh language popularity in effort such as translating articles into Kazakh Wikipedia and movie names into IMDB since I see it as being one of the big opportunities aside from the government's lacking interest. ShadZ01 (talk) 00:37, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, man! I will give you the rights, though I have to warn you that Google Translate is just not good enough in Kazakh. When I use it, often it gets messy with longer sentences, so I almost always find myself rewriting the entire sentences; the punctuation also often gets lost for some reason; all the —, – just becomes -, which is annoying. Yeah, the "pop culture department" of our Wikipedia is admittedly embarrasingly small; I'd have added to it myself, but I just am not that big of a pop-culture guy myself. You could also try Yandex Translate. It's not bad from time to time. Good luck and, I mean it, thanks a lot for all the contributions you're making. Nursultan Malik(talk) 00:46, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if you're writing, like, the filmography of a person, you can state the original name of the title somewhere, maybe using the Template:Small template. That's what I did for Willem Dafoe and I think this'd help us make the translations of the names more "standardised" and easy to find; one could find the name of the film in Kazakh by searching up its English name. Just a suggestion of how we could help ourselves and others. Nursultan Malik(talk) 00:50, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I see now. I also want to point out how I usually translate Kazakh titles for Hollywood movie names from Russian, due to the fact that's basically how they're shown and advertised in Kazakhstan and the rest of CIS countries, so realistically if Kazakh speakers were to try to discuss the name of the movie, they'd be translating it from Russian rather than English. Like example how the name Wolverine character from X-Men, the Russian word "Росомаха" rather than "Қасқыр" is used in Kazakh sources. Another instance I've seen in Azerbaijani cinemas, the movie title Civil War is rather translated from Russian dub as "İmperiyanın süqutu" (Падение Империи/Fall of the Empire) rather than simply "Vətəndaş müharibəsi" (Civil War). (ShadZ01 (talk) 08:26, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so it seriously looks like you already are an auto-confirmed user? Have you tried making another article recently, did it also get the "waiting for approval"? All I know is that the permission was given to me automatically, after a while and the page, where I could change your usergroups stated that "I didn't have the rights to change yours". I really am not that experienced of an admin. Whatever happens, if you are making articles, I'll make sure to check them. May have to contact the other admins on the issue. Technical issues with election infoboxes

[edit]

Hello, @Malik Nursultan B, I just wanted to report that I've fixed up some errors with the Үлгі:Сайлау template that were occurring such as incorrect sizes and misspelled field entries, however few problems remain with the map and diagram fields. One thing I can say is that it seems the election infobox used in Kazakh Wikipedia is replica from the French version Modèle:Infobox Élection, so the exact coding is almost the same. The problem is that it has sub-templates such as Сайлау/Кандидат attached to it which could have completely different written code from the other one that's used to rely on making the general infobox work. Because of that, the map and diagram fields don't display as intended particularly due to the issues with the parameters at the Инфобокс/Сурет which only administrators have access to editing it and hasn't been updated since 2015. Do you mind fixing this issue with it so that it could display well for all infoboxes?

Also the earlier issue I faced in Kazakh Wikipedia where I couldn't make articles was due to a requirement where I had to have 100 edits before being allowed to create a new article which I can do it now. Before that, I made this drafted article months ago that hasn't been submitted, can you please approve it too? ShadZ01 (talk) 06:43, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal for a Specialized Infobox for US presidential elections

[edit]

Greetings @Malik Nursultan B, I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to propose the creation of a specialized infobox template for U.S. presidential elections on the Kazakh Wikipedia.

Given the unique structure of U.S. presidential elections, which prominently feature two major candidates from distinct parties, I feel that the current Үлгі:Сайлау template does not fully reflect the distinctiveness of these elections but rather more fitting for countries that have direct presidential elections or multiple candidates. A new US election template would allow for larger, more presentable images of the presidential nominees elected from states, which are a key visual aspect of these elections.

Here are the main reasons why I believe a custom US-styled election template would be valuable:

  • Two-party system: U.S. elections are often framed around two major contenders from Democrats and Republicans, making their representation in a larger, more visually appealing format crucial.
  • Clarity and Readability: A specialized design would improve clarity by showcasing essential details such as electoral votes, popular votes, and states won, in a more organized and accessible manner.
  • Consistency with Other Wikipedias: Some Wikipedias, like Portuguese and Hungarian versions, utilize a customized infobox for U.S. presidential elections, ensuring consistency and uniformity in presentation. I am not advocating for removing Үлгі:Сайлау but just instead creating another separate infobox template that would be used only for US election articles.

I am happy to take on the responsibility of designing and implementing this infobox for Kazakh Wikipedia, ensuring it meets Wikipedia's quality standards while being tailored to the specific needs of the Kazakh Wikipedia community. Please let me know your thoughts and questions on this proposal. I would be grateful for the opportunity to contribute to improving the representation of U.S. elections on Kazakh Wikipedia. ShadZ01 (talk) 10:26, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have actually thought about this at some point. I'll make sure to ask the other admins' opinion. I think it should be likely that consensus will fall on this being allowed.Nursultan Malik(talk) 10:49, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So I talked with a couple of our users and consensus was reached: you may start making the infobox. I'm willing to help in translating specific politics-related vocab, too, if you'd like. Do you, perhaps, have a social media account so we could discuss stuff like this in an easier way? Would be nice, this Wikipedia talk is a little tedious. Nursultan Malik(talk) 04:52, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do have personal Instagram acc though I'm not that much active there as well as Telegram. Realistically if I were to share my work or provide information, then email would be the easiest way for me because since I do stuff from my computer it's much more convenient to send screenshots and documents there compared to social media apps via photo apps. Just so you know, I'm very new at this and never done rework for infobox templates so I may struggle a bit but I do have some basic coding knowledge to do some redesigning. Not to mention, I would need to find platform somewhere here where I could test and edit my template project.
I think first thing we could start by figuring out how the election infobox design could look appealing for readers: standard minimalistic white or duo-colored (purple/white, blue/white, etc) as well as how should voting result numbers be presented (basic number display, horizontal bar graphs) and whether we could include something little sophisticated decorations (donkey or elephant icon next to party names, presidential emblem, red or blue colored text).
Depending on situation, I could possibly communicate in English and maybe Russian through messaging apps only in perhaps very urgent needs or some quick chit chat but for now, I think we could take this discussion to email from here. ShadZ01 (talk) 07:22, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I personally think we'd be fine just with the same-looking infobox as the English (and therefore the Portuguese and Russian) one, though I don't know how I'd have pulled it off. I did have some experience with creating infobox templates from scratch, but not elaborate ones like this. Nursultan Malik(talk) 15:19, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Taiyr Khan, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Moghuls. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
