Default maximum archive size

The config instructions don't make it clear whether specifying a maximum archive size is required or, if not, what the default maximum archive size is. Gordon P. Hemsley 23:17, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is no requirement for a maximum archive size, nor is there a default imposed. Tiggerjay (talk) 23:25, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So when does the counter get incremented when no value is specified? Never? Gordon P. Hemsley 00:34, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Secret key to reorganize incremental archives into month-year archives

I'm reorganizing the talk pages at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Puerto Rico, its subpages, and other talk pages and need the secret key so that I can consolidate everything into the month-year format. In other words, I need the bot to reorganize Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Archive 1 onto Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Archives/2007/January, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Archives/2007/February, and so on. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 01:15, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I wish there was some way for links to talk page threads to be made permanent. On busy pages it is a real pain to try and follow links that have been broken by topics being shunted off to archive. 86.160.214.187 (talk) 00:07, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File talk archiving

Misza13, do your bots archive file talk pages such as this one? - M0rphzone (talk) 04:46, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that Wwoods added a MiszaBot template to this talk page in January but the bot has never run. I'm not sure why. EdJohnston (talk) 05:30, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yea I noticed that too. That's why I asked, but it looks like Misza hasn't been online recently. Should we use Cluebot then? - M0rphzone (talk) 06:17, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why not try Cluebot if you know the instructions for it. Per User talk:Wwoods there are no successful examples of MiszaBot working on File talk pages. EdJohnston (talk) 16:52, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed it to a ClueBot template. Hopefully it should work. - M0rphzone (talk) 06:20, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Update: Ok, ClueBot works. It archives file talk pages, but MiszaBot doesn't. - M0rphzone (talk) 07:03, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bug in archiving of Template talk:

Hi, MiszaBot II (talk · contribs) has copied threads from Template talk:RailGauge to Template talk:RailGauge/Archive 1 but without deleting the same threads from Template talk:RailGauge. This has happened three times now. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:30, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I fiddled the archive counter in Template talk:RailGauge so that MiszaBot II wouldn't try to append to an existing archive, and it seems to be happy now: it has created Template talk:RailGauge/Archive 2 moving 16 threads over. I guess there was something about the format of Template talk:RailGauge/Archive 1 that it didn't like - that page was manually created. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:45, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Number of days before archival

I am wondering, does the amount of time a section has to be inactive before it is archived by your bot change depending on the activeness of a talk page? If so I am wondering how this number is decided on, and if there are ways to move to change it? Like for example if a wikiproject talk page archived every 7 days, is there a way to appeal an extension to 14? Ranze (talk) 16:35, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

To find the present MiszaBot settings for a talk page, look at the portion of that talk page which is before the first section headiing. In there you should find a {{User:MiszaBot/config}} template. This will contain a number of parameters which hold the archival settings. For a talk page where threads are archived when they reach a certain age, there should be a |algo = parameter; if this shows |algo = old(7d) then threads older than 7 days are eligible for archival. If all you wish to do is extend that period to 14 days, you should alter this to |algo = old(14d) --Redrose64 (talk) 18:48, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stopped archiving

Hi, Are there any problems with MiszaBot at the moment? It's not cleaned up my talkpage for a while now and I was wondering if there was a problem. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 19:45, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Did you remember to update the {{User:MiszaBot/config}} on User talk:SchroCat after it was moved from User talk:Schrodinger's cat is alive? Were all the archive pages moved? --Redrose64 (talk) 20:44, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Good point - now tweaked. However, the pages were not archived from some point before that, I think. I've tweaked the pages and bot, so everything should be pointing in the same direction now and I'll keep you posted. Many thanks! - SchroCat (talk) 20:54, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
All now working - obviously it was the change of name (and my failure to re-direct the archiving) that was the problem. Many thanks indeed! - SchroCat (talk) 19:01, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
