Over-keen

Please check this edit, noting the last thread (from me) - it appears to have been archived just around 14 hours after it was posted?  Chzz  ►  18:24, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MiszaBot is only able to parse the first date per row. And in this case there is two dates on the same row. --Kslotte (talk) 18:42, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Couldn't it just take the latter of multiple dates?  Chzz  ►  21:08, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Checking back - any thoughts on this?  Chzz  ►

Why did you delete my page?

Hello, You deleted an article I made HazMat Environmental Group Inc. and I am allowed to make that account because I am friends with the boss of the company. So please don't delete it just undo the deletion. Tamcgra1 (talk) 03:10, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your article did probably not met notability criterias.--Kslotte (talk) 18:36, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the bot seems not to be working here, though I can't work out why. The talk page says:

{{User:MiszaBot/config |archiveheader = {{Talkarchive}} |maxarchivesize = 250K |counter = 15 |minthreadsleft = 1 |algo = old(15d) |archive = Talk:Veganism/Archive %(counter)d }}

But there's a thread on the talk page not added to since March 21, but not being archived. As I see this happening a lot, can you let me know what we need to write to make sure old threads are archived? Also, what should we write to make the archive pages longer, so that the bot creates fewer pages? SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 19:37, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As default MiszaBot archive two sections at once and leave at least five sections. So, MiszaBot waits for a second section that will get older then 15 days. The two sections at a time avoids MiszaBot to fill up archiving messages in the talk page history. --Kslotte (talk) 18:32, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What do we have to write to change that?
My other question was: how do we increase archive size? Even when 250k is entered, the archives are being left very small, which just isn't sustainable for busy pages, and makes things hard to find. Finally, why does the person who runs the bots not reply to queries? :) SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 00:27, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Which do you want to change? :-)
minthreadsleft sets the minimum number of sections below which the bot won't go.
minthreadstoarchive sets the minimum number of sections the bot will archive in one go.
You set 250k as the maximum archive page size in January. It hasn't reached that yet on the current page. But the bot doesn't merge old pages to that size. Do you want to refactor the old pages? You/we would have to do it manually.
If people have already answered questions, I guess Misza doesn't feel the need to add comments?
—WWoods (talk) 01:39, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've just made a few changes and will watch over the next day or so...I want to make sure indexing is working properly. I'd suggest leaving the old pages for now just to make sure the automated bit works as desired. These can be shifted after we know things are right.

Thanks, BH. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 01:49, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) Hi Wwoods, regardless of whether the archive size is set to 250 k, the bot always archives well before that. As a result, we end up with lots of small archives, which makes things hard to find, and on busy pages isn't sustainable; it will mean after a few years that we'll have hundreds of archives, each with just a few threads in them. See the archives at Wikipedia talk:Verifiability as an example. For example, Wikipedia talk:Verifiability/Archive 43 is very short (prose size, 37 kB), but the bot then created no. 44, instead of filling up no. 43. And it's like that for all the archives I've looked at, on all the pages I've looked at. The bot seems to be overriding the requested archive size, or is measuring the size in a different way, perhaps not looking at prose size.
So my question is: should we simply increase the size to e.g. 500 k, or is there something else we should be writing? SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 01:49, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Where are you getting the prose size as 37K for archive 43? I'm seeing it as over 270K here and it looks rather large when glancing over it. I took the contents and confirmed it is over 270K.
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 02:11, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm getting a prose size of 37kB from User talk:Dr pda/prosesize.js. Also, no warning is flashing up that the page is exceeding prose size limits. How does this confirm the size?
I'll try doubling the size and see what happens. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 02:29, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
From the link it shows "278,311 bytes" in parenthesis with an edit summary of "ARCHIVE FULL". I took the contents minus the archive notice at the top and put it into a text file on my computer and then looked at the properties which shows "278293 bytes" (the difference is probably the archive notice that I left out). I can't explain the Dr. pda script but I would suggest it is wrong because I know what the size is. Try saving the contents from edit view into a file on your computer (Word doc? Word pad? gedit or kedit on Linux) then look at the properties.
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 02:46, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just did that (pasted the contents into a file), and it says there are 43,340 words (277,518 characters), so 37kB is clearly wrong. Interestingly, Dr. pda's script says there are only 4,685 words. But actually, now I see what is happening. I just remembered that his script has a bug whereby it doesn't count anything indented, or anything in blockquotes. In an article this makes little difference to total word count, but on a talk, the difference is substantial. So that's where I'm getting my faulty 37kB from. My apologies! SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 03:07, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. :) I just installed his script and the text it is counting is highlighted in yellow...and very little is counted at that (as you point out the exceptions accurately). The operable number that is somewhat correct is "Wiki text: 272 kB" even though that is missing by about 6K for some reason. The good news is Miszabot does appear to be working correctly on the size quotas.
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 03:19, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for checking it, and I'm sorry for wasting your time. When I first looked at the page using the Dr. pda script, I didn't scroll down to see that only a few parts of the page were highlighted in yellow. It was only when I checked it a second time that I remembered the indent/blockquote bug (or feature), and that's when I looked down and saw most of the page wasn't highlighted. So, anyway, what I'll do from now on is increase the page archive size a little on busy pages; I've started with 500 k on WT:V, but if that turns out to be too large, I'll reduce it. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 03:25, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Miszabot not working for me

Hello. Miszabot hasn't archived my talk page in a while and I do not know why. This is the difference between the current revision and the time it was last archived. Nothing different (except for a new discussion, as far as I can tell) has been changed, so why is it not archiving? Thank you! Harry (talk) 12:30, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You have it set to "|minthreadsleft = 1", so it won't archive the old section until someone adds a new one. Or, you could change that to zero.
Also, if you want an archive index, you'll have to create the page manually. See step 1. of User:HBC Archive Indexerbot#Instructions.
—WWoods (talk) 17:28, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Aha, don't know how I didn't realize that. I feel silly! Thanks for the help. Harry (talk) 18:31, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MiszaBot II

This edit at ANI archived a thread that was only 30 minutes old ("A page move request"). I fixed it and another user fixed the archive. Not sure why that was archived. When you get a chance, take a look at it & see if you can figure out what happened. FYI. --64.85.217.100 (talk) 07:39, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bot borked

See this; now disabled until the issue (whatever it is) is fixed. Ironholds (talk) 15:39, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The issue being, the bot used to sort cases by date up to here but ever since this edit the bot has sorted cases alphabetically, which makes the cases look all over the place. Can you look into this please? Cheers. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 15:43, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The bot never really enforced any sorting whatsoever. My guess is Category:Wikipedia Medcab open cases (which the bot scans) used to be sorted in alphabetical order, and because the date comes first in a title, the chronological order owrked out by itself. And at some point, you probably enforced catsort on the cases' titles, which resorted the category, and the list as a result. I have added a forced sort on dates in page titles. problem with MiszaBot III

A page that I have, User talk:Crazymonkey1123/Suggestions from SuggestBot, is set to archive every three days. The problem is it has not archived yet. Take a look at the code on that page to make sure I am doing it right. Thanks. Crazymonkey1123 (Jacob) T or M/Sign mine 23:30, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The default value of minthreadsleft is 5, so the bot won't do anything until you get several more sections, unless you change that.
—WWoods (talk) 01:45, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I changed that and it still does not work. Crazymonkey1123 public (talk) 20:57, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Any response? Crazymonkey1123 public (talk) 00:22, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see what's wrong. Anyone else? —WWoods (talk) 05:52, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed a couple of things including the minthreadstoarchive to 1 because I believe the default is 2 and there isn't two sections there yet. I hardcoded underscores for spaces just in case...let's give it 24 hours...
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 18:56, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That worked.
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 19:08, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The bot isn't archiving for some reason. Just had to do it manually. [1] Would someone check the parameters, please, so see if they've been set correctly? They're currently set for 14 days. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 19:52, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've adjusted it. First, the bot does best when it is at the top of the page; sometimes it doesn't work when there is lots of other stuff before it. Second, the brackets need to be on their own line and in this case the last set weren't. The beginning brackets of the indexer bot was on the same line. For future reference when diagnosing, if a link is on the page that has recently been added to the blacklist, it will disallow (break) the archiving. In such cases, copy the full contents into your sandbox and try to save it (Xeno taught me that...where is he?). If you see the blacklist message, then you hunt down the link and mangle it to get the archiving going again. In the future, it may be better if you don't manually archive while we try to fix...we have to wait longer to see if the fixes work. :)
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 20:13, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for doing it, and for the advice. I left a couple of older threads on the page, so we'll see if the bot picks up again. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 23:14, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The size had a "KB" which I've changed to "K"...hopefully that does the trick.
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 18:59, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep...that did the trick. Archiving is working again.

Misza bot III

can you help me set this up on my talkpage. I tried, but it hasn't worked for the time it has been set up (a long time).
Thanks,
Thomas888b (Say Hi) 18:41, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've tweaked it to fit your schema (I think). If we get it working then we can look at your indexing. :)
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 20:27, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wasn't working so I've tried another couple of things and giving it another 24 hours to see...
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 18:57, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Got it working by removing an open-ended html comment.
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 01:49, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and request.

Hello Misza13. And my request is that you undo your archive of 2 threads on the Talk England page.

90 days is very little for busy people. The threads are interesting and significant - reading them is informative - just because no one adds any more views doesn't change that. And the talk England page is not very long so doesn't need any archiving for a long time. Particularly as it is well divided into sections. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.219.249.5 (talk) 16:39, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What is wrong with reading it from the archive?
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 01:29, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Misza Bot not archiving

Hi, I noticed that MiszaBot III hasn't archived my talk page in the past 5 days. I have tons of threads that can be archived, and it was going well earlier. I think it may be a problem with when I tagged the barnstar to not be archived, but I'm not sure. Could you help me out? Sorry for the n00b question. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:44, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that a {{DNAU}} in a section that does not have a datestamp was affecting the whole page...I've removed it.
⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 01:51, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I hope that fixes it. Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:50, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Now working again. :)

Can I use this bot?

I began archiving pages on my own and now have 3 archives. Am I able to start using this bot to do my archiving and tell it to begin with archive four? Ryan Vesey (talk) 11:33, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, set "|counter = 4". —WWoods (talk) 17:59, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
