Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in American football, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Specifically, major countries like the US and Canada are generally not linked per MOS:OVERLINK.Bagumba (talk) 14:03, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rankin

[edit]

Thank you for trying, but the information you provided is entirely redundant to what I already had (namely, you just provided more instances of the same 1896 death notice). Further, it misses the point: lists of everyone who was a member of the Supreme Court of Washington Territory exist, but don't include Rankin. I've reverted your edit. Time to republish the Draft:Harmony, Washington?

[edit]

Hey Bigfatman8766!

I've taken the liberty to help build up the Harmony, Washington draft you began. Found plenty of local sourcing and the draft should now be ready to publish. I personally don't mind the Gen Web link (all her work is sourced) and you might get some guff over the Google maps link, but I don't mind it. Since this draft originates with you, I wanted to run things by you first before anything was submitted. Granted, we don't WP:OWN any work, but I also want you to take a final look and do the honors. Seems only fair.

There are some additional local sourcing going back to early newspapers, but not much in terms of historical context; a bit of day-to-day happenings and plenty of obits. A surprising lack on the St. Ives church but online sleuthing can only take a person so far. Might be time to take a dive into some actual books!

But, it looks good to me and I thank you for beginning this article! Let me know if I can be of further help and welcome to the community!

Shortiefourten (talk) 21:32, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wow! I didn't even know you were working on this! Thank you for editing the draft, it looks good and good job on finding sources on the history of the town! I'll go ahead and publish it, thanks for your contribution!
Bigfatman8766 (talk) 01:33, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, man, denied again! To me it passes WP:GNG and WP:GEOLAND but I would suggest reaching out to @Stuartyeates via his talk page or maybe ping him here or at the Draft talk:Harmony, Washington page to centralize a discussion on the Harmony article.
Massive amount of articles mentioning Harmony for weddings, funerals, simple goings-on, land transactions, crimes, fishing reports, and road accidents...in newspapers going back to the 1890s. Standard fare for any community regardless of size. I've started a large, broad search on Harmony outside of what I recently added and it'll take some time to sift thru it all. I'm hoping there'll be more about its history, but small communities just struggle with that. If it isn't a big city, or some catastrophic event (natural or human), they just get passed over, time and time again.
But let's keep working this! Harmony exists, has existed, and seems like it's going to exist for a good amount of time to come. Hell, I've driven thru the town a half-dozen times when I go to relax at Ike Kinswa park - it's awesome!
Hope you don't mind me doing some work on the draft - not trying to "take over" at all - Lewis County is just my major area of interest as an editor. If you're planning on working on more rural areas around Lewis or Pierce, hell maybe even Thurston, reach out to me if I can help! But again, thanks so much for starting this draft.

Substantial work has been done on Draft:Harmony, Washington, and it would be entirely appropriate to resubmit it. I won't do anything else on it because the US isn't really my area of knowledge, and getting fresh eyes on it increases the chances of a expert being able to give you more specific advice. Stuartyeates (talk) 08:04, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Stuartyeates!
Really appreciate the feedback, your help, and advice. I've added a touch more today but outside of going to a library and bringing out the big books, I think it's as much as I can access. I'll reach out to @Bigfatman8766 to resubmit.

I'm glad I could help! On a side note - if you felt I trampled on your efforts or took over...by no means was that my intention. Didn't want a good effort to be lost by a new editor, especially in an area that is of great interest to me. We need new blood and we here at Wiki need to recognize the value, and energy, that newer editors bring. I hope that the challenge to bring this article to life hasn't soured you. Please keep editing!
If you plan on adding further to existing articles on rural Western Washington, or creating some new ones, man...I can't wait! Reach out if you want to work together in the future!
All the best!
