Hi there, would you please re-review this wiki.... the references that I intended to add got deleted by accident or did not save, and so I re-added them, and it should all be good to go now. Thanks a lot. Russ Lowe Russlowe (talk) 03:47, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

MeUndies Page (dlight66) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dlight66 (talkcontribs) 17:02, 9 July 2015 (UTC) Hey there! I was looking for some guidance on creating a new wikipedia page if you have the time. I'm fairly new to page creation so I'm not really sure where the first place to start would be. I am a huge fan of this one company called MeUndies but I've but they don't seem to have a wiki page which I find crazy! Do you have and tips or recommendations on how to move forward? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.168.152.74 (talk) 17:01, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please read our notability guidelines, and then tell me why the company should have an encyclopedia article written about it. As a "huge fan" of the company, you'll need to make an extra effort to present a neutral point of view. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 17:45, 9 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey could you take a peak at Doppler Studios. I've raised concerns with some of the sourcing but as I recall you were very good with working on the deleted SMH Records article. Could you look? Hell in a Bucket (talk) 19:24, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just in case you are interested...—Anne Delong (talk) 01:55, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Anne Delong:, that is interesting. I'd have to agree with the reviewer, it isn't quite notable yet. Very useful information for future articles, I wouldn't be surprised to see this become notable in the future. Do you think I should userfy it on my page? The music style isn't something I'd normally keep track of, so I'll admit I'm not sure how best to handle it, it would be best if the original author or another interested editor brought it to my attention as further reliable sources became available, and I'd be happy to help them create the article. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 02:13, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I found some mention in local magazines, but nothing major yet. I have added a couple of references. It should be all right where it is in draft space for the next six months, and I have it on my list to check again then. If there isn't much new activity at that point it can be let go. The original editor was a one purpose account and is long gone.—Anne Delong (talk) 12:12, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

why?

Hello, 78.26. This draft relies heavily on Allmusic and the AllMusic Guide. I read the Wikipedia page about this, but I can't tell if it's a reliable source. It seems as though it's more of a database. Is the recent material self-published? I can't remember if I have asked you this before about another artist.—Anne Delong (talk) 22:01, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anne! Are you asking if AllMusic/AllMedia is a reliable source? The answer is an unequivocal yes, one of the most respected sources on music out there (not by everyone, of course, since we're talking about music fans...) That said, you have to make sure you are reading one of the official editors and not one of the "contributors", they've made some recent changes which makes this a little more confusing. If I were reviewing, I'd pass it, as I think he's probably notable, and stands a better than 50% chance of surviving AfD. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 03:51, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, 78.26. It's in mainspace now. I thought it was good, but the page had previously been turn down as not having reliable sources.—Anne Delong (talk) 04:44, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there 78.26 - just trying to finalise my Draft and get it up on Wikipedia. Wondering if you could please let me know how to get past the fact that I am the producer of this Series and am trying to create the Wikipedia page? Looking forward to your response. Thanks for your great feedback. So new to this but you have guided me well. Kind regards Peter Pentz Pentz.peter (talk) 02:53, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I don't see you addressed the problems I mentioned. Where are any independent, reliable sources that discuss the topic, namely and specifically your series? Has it been aired yet? If not, please see Wikipedia:Too soon. If it has been aired on a channel with nationwide or international viewership, I imagine that some newspaper or media guide has discussed it (PR releases don't count). I hope that helps. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 01:54, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2015 September newsletter

[edit]

The finals for the 2015 Wikicup has now begun! Congrats to the 8 contestants who have survived to the finals, and well done and thanks to everyone who took part in rounds 3 and 4.

In round 3, we had a three-way tie for qualification among the wildcard contestants, so we had 34 competitors. The leader was by far Scotland Casliber (submissions) in Group B, who earned 1496 points. Although 913 of these points were bonus points, he submitted 15 articles in the DYK category. Second place overall was Philadelphia Coemgenus (submissions) at 864 points, who although submitted just 2 FAs for 400 points, earned double that amount for those articles in bonus points. Everyone who moved forward to Round 4 earned at least 100 points.

The scores required to move onto the semifinals were impressive; the lowest scorer to move onto the finals was 407, making this year's Wikicup as competitive as it's always been. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

  1. Belarus Cas Liber (submissions), who is competing in his sixth consecutive Wikicup final, again finished the round in first place, with an impressive 1666 points in Pool B. Casliber writes about the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. A large bulk of his points this round were bonus points.
  2. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points), second place both in Pool B and overall, earned the bulk of his points with FPs, mostly depicting currency.
  3. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), first in Pool A, came in third. His specialty is natural science articles; in Round 4, he mostly submitted articles about insects and botany. Five out of the six of the GAs he submitted were level-4 vital articles.
  4. Somerset Harrias (submissions), second in Pool A, took fourth overall. He tends to focus on articles about cricket and military history, specifically the 1640s First English Civil War.
  5. Washington, D.C. West Virginian (submissions), from Pool A, was our highest-scoring wildcard. West Virginia tends to focus on articles about the history of (what for it!) the U.S. state of West Virginia.
  6. Somerset Rodw (submissions), from Pool A, likes to work on articles about British geography and places. Most of his points this round were earned from two impressive accomplishments: a GT about Scheduled monuments in Somerset and a FT about English Heritage properties in Somerset.
  7. United States Rationalobserver (submissions), from Pool B, came in seventh overall. RO earned the majority of her points from GARs and PRs, many of which were earned in the final hours of the round.
  8. England Calvin999 (submissions), also from Pool B, who was competing with RO for the final two spots in the final hours, takes the race for most GARs and PRs—48.

The intense competition between RO and Calvin999 will continue into the finals. They're both eligible for the Newcomers Trophy, given for the first time in the Wikicup; whoever makes the most points will win it.

Good luck to the finalists; the judges are sure that the competition will be fierce!

Hello. Can you assist me in getting this draft page up and live on Wiki? thank you Steve Stange — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zt692 (talkcontribs) 10:17, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The first thing that needs to be done is to find reliable sources that directly discuss the topic in substance. At the moment that is the main hurdle to overcome, so let's start there. What have you got? 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 12:53, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lulu.com

[edit]

Hi, on this I think you'll find actually that the writer copied wikipedia, not the other way around. Lulu.com is a self publisher and notorious for its books mirroring wikipedia or copying text.♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:51, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not surprised. Nonetheless it was an unsupported statement, and 8000 copies for a 1939 record, while not a smash hit by any means, was hardly an abject failure. Record companies of the time would could sell 600 copies of an obscure ethnic record, and make a small profit. The Sinatra article is shaping up nicely, and the recent additions to "Frank Sinatra, the musician" added most of what I thought the article was really missing. I'm going to go through Whitburn's "Pop Memories" and see if any of his important songs are missing. I'll add things, but please feel free to remove/move them as you see fit. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 17:05, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can you try to add more on his albums and songs? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:08, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Dr. Blofeld: Sure, and that's the plan. Are you looking for a separate discography section, or do you want them interspersed within the biography sections (i.e. "Capitol Years")? I presume the latter. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 17:11, 8 October 2015 (UTC) modified 17:12[reply]
I removed the discography as it was getting large. But you can use the list in Draft:Frank Sinatra to identify which albums we don't yet cover and what you can add. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:14, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I see you search for Vandalism, so if you see other edits like this that involve changing the word "butt" to butt it may not be intentional, and you might see benefit from informing these people about the issue. WikiCup 2015: The results

[edit]

WikiCup 2015 is now in the books! Congrats to our finalists and winners, and to everyone who took part in this year's competition.

This year's results were an exact replica of last year's competition. For the second year in a row, the 2015 WikiCup champion is Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points). All of his points were earned for an impressive 253 featured pictures and their associated bonus points (5060 and 1695, respectively). His entries constituted scans of currency from all over the world and scans of medallions awarded to participants of the U.S. Space program. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came in second place; she earned by far the most bonus points (4082), for 4 featured articles, 15 good articles, and 147 DYKs, mostly about in her field of expertise, natural science. Belarus Cas Liber (submissions), a finalist every year since 2010, came in third, with 2379 points.

Our newcomer award, presented to the best-performing new competitor in the WikiCup, goes to United States Rationalobserver (submissions). Everyone should be very proud of the work they accomplished. We will announce our other award winners soon.

A full list of our award winners are:

We warmly invite all of you to sign up for next year's competition. Discussions and polls concerning potential rules changes are also open, and all are welcome to participate. The WikiCup judges will be back in touch over the coming months, and we hope to see you all in the 2016 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.

Hi, can you flesh this out a bit? I redirected the other two songs, wasn't convinced they were notable enough. If you can prove otherwise go for it ;-) Oh! What it Seemed to Be I think is notable enough for its own article though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:02, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Dr. Blofeld:, I'm quite sure I can. I'll get to it as soon as I finish Castle Jazz Band. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 22:04, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I might be able to get a photo of the jazz band, but my source seems to be busy at the moment, perhaps in a week or two.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:06, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've a feeling our source may be mutual. I haven't seen him around for a few months, if you've heard from him off-wikipedia tell him We hope he's doing well, ahem. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 22:14, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah I'd forgotten, I think WH was the one who recommended you for Sinatra too! Just one of the best and sadly gone from here, thanks to the corruption and sheer brutality of a foundation member! BTW I redirected With Every Breath I Take and Say It (Frank Sinatra song) as I couldn't find anything. Oh should have better coverage. ‎ ♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:25, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Say It had three hit versions in 1940, it also deserves an article. I'm not sure With Every Breath is independently notable, it didn't chart as a single. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 22:31, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK, perhaps recreate it, Can you find anything more on Gus Levene? I know he was quoted in commenting about Sinatra in the Granata book.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:04, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'll recreate it if I have time , my current wiki-work priorities are Castle, What it Seemed, and Songs for Young Lovers. If you hadn't noticed, I tend to work rather slowly, at least when measured against your own productivity! I will see what I can find about Levene, but the libraries are closed today. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 14:05, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Dr. Blofeld: Oh! What it Seemed to Be is now long enough to qualify for DYK. I'm not done with it, there is a Frankie Carle biography I'll bet has more information regarding this song, and I haven't even checked Google News yet, or JSTOR and the like. Anyway, I nominated the article for Frank Sinatra day. Hope that's useful. I would of course welcome an editorial eye on both the article itself, and any interesting hooks you can come up. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 03:58, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sinatra albums

[edit]

Did you polish any others off afterwards?♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:12, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to improve some of them in the next couple of days, my schedule has been, well, weird lately. Tis the season for music performance if you're not in a rock band. I am not able to bring Songs for Young Lovers to GA class, there just aren't enough references. I'm rather surprised, and quite disappointed, that the LOC has hardly anything on the album, given it is in the National Recording Registry. They don't even have their facts correct regarding the true arranger. Would you rather I concentrate on Songs for Young Lovers? Or would you rather I concentrate on making sure the Sinatra album articles in general don't look horrendous? Thanks 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 04:08, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If no meaningful cross references or cites are possible, I'm afraid filling out the form would be a complete waste of time. It is therefore a non-notable concept. Nor did I nominate your article for speedy deletion, so I can't tell exactly what the issues were. To have the article restored to your user space so you can work on it, I would contact user:DGG, the deleting administrator. Regarding the article itself, I see Abhijeet Ghodgaonkar isn't listed at the Speedcubing article. Are you sure he meets the notability guidelines. Can you verify by reliable sources that the claims made are true? I'm not sure how notable this record is, or how much coverage holding the Asian record generates. Your RfA nomination

[edit]

...is finally finished! It looks like everything is ready, so all you need to do now is sign your acceptance and transclude. And sooner is probably better, so that we can avoid coinciding with Christmas. :) Let me know if you have any questions or factual corrections and anything like that, and good luck! Also, let me know if you want me to transclude the RfA, and I'd be happy to do that too. Best — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 10:58, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Mr. Stradivarius:, thank you so much. If you don't mind, can we modify the nom statement just a little for accuracy? I don't say I will not delete pages, I say I don't plan on closing AfDs (which I don't actually need to be an admin to do). I do plan on deleting pages that have been nominated by others for XfD. Mostly I will continue to nominate for XfD, and let others delete so as to get a second opinion, but when I run across very serious policy violations such as attack pages and copyright violations, I do plan on outright deleting those myself. If the deletion backlog for closed XfD gets too big, I could probably help out, but this will not be my focus. Therefore perhaps the sentence "While he says below that he does not plan to get involved in deletion as an admin, in my opinion he would definitely be qualified to" should be removed, because I don't want to mislead anyone. Katch 22

[edit]

Hello! As a noted classic vinyl aficionado, I wonder if you would mind having a look at Draft:Katch 22. It's a draft about a late sixties soft pop band which didn't have much (any?) chart success but which was supposedly prominent as a backing group and in BBC Radio One sessions, and which is supposedly popular with collectors. However it was written primarily by one of the members of the band, and I'm having trouble locating sources to back up their activity. I've done some work to clean it up but the content is still mostly what was originally contributed. I'd value your expertise here. Cheers. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 17:17, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's a bit of a mess. If I could verify the information, it would certainly be a notable band. The promo photos included in the article give credence to the claims, none of which are outlandish, despite all the name-dropping. It is very difficult to read because of all the formatting issues. I'll try to find more, but research is confused by a later hip-hop group with the same name that seems to have been considerably more popular, and some science-fiction writings. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 19:45, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2016 is just around the corner...

[edit]

Hello everyone, and we would like to wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2016 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. There are some changes we'd like to announce before the competition begins.

After two years of serving as WikiCup judge, User:Miyagawa has stepped down as judge. He deserves great thanks and recognition for his dedication and hard work, and for providing necessary transition for a new group of judges in last year's Cup. Joining Christine (User:Figureskatingfan) and Jason (User:Sturmvogel 66) is Andrew (User:Godot13), a very successful WikiCup competitor and expert in Featured Pictures; he won the two previous competitions. This is a strong judging team, and we anticipate lots of enjoyment and good work coming from our 2016 competitors.

We would also like to announce one change in how this year's WikiCup will be run. In the spirit of sportsmanship, Godot13 and Cwmhiraeth have chosen to limit their participation. See here for the announcement and a complete explanation of why. They and the judges feel that it will make for a more exciting, enjoyable, and productive competition.

The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. The judges are committed to not repeating the confusion that occurred last year and to ensuring that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.

If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Congratulations on your successful RFA!
Allow me to impart the words of wisdom I received from the puppy after my RFA passed – eight long, sordid, should-have-found-a-better-hobby years ago:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version. (I got nothing here. It's inevitable.)
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. Without exception, you will pick the wrong one to do. (See #5.)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll. (You'll attract many more of those now, because mop. They must like to drink the dirty water in the bucket.)
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block, because really, what else is there to live for?
  5. Remember that when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology. It will not be a personal attack because we are admins and, therefore, we are all rouge anyway.
  6. Finally, remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.
