Africa Destubathon
[edit]I'm putting forward a proposal this week for a big general Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon to benefit every nation with fleshing out stubs. If I have the support of people here we can offer rewards for people who do the most women/West African women articles to benefit everybody, and we could even add a special focus on Nigerian women if you want me to incorporate it, but entirely your choice, it is not my intention to intrude upon what you've been doing yourselves, but to try to boost it. I've highlighted my proposal at the bottom of here, though I've moved the Destubathon out of 10,000 project space for neutrality purposes. Adding entries to the main list will be optional. What I envisage is starting not only a regional contest series but a National Contest series, based on Dragon and inspiring others to produce results like this for each contest. National contests can be launched for countries like Nigeria and South Africa etc in the new year. Obviously I can't run everything, but my vision is to try get others to see the huge potential in this, and to incorporate the design and then run their own national contests independently without me. Next year for instance, Wiki Loves Women could run something like the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Loves Women/The African Women Contest and you could format it in the same way for every country and gives prizes to the people who destub and cleanup the most articles, create the most articles, and who get the most core articles to Good Article status. Brimming with ideas...♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:06, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
Tasha Eurich
[edit]Would someone from this WikiProject mind taking a look at and assessing Tasha Eurich. It's a newly created article moved directly to the mainspace by an SPA. I tried cleaning up the formatting a bit, but I'm not sure if this person satisfies WP:NAUTHOR or WP:NACADEMIC based upon the sources which are provided. There is also a problem with the infobox image which means it's going to be deleted if left unresolved. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:23, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: I think the article seems to fail Wikipedia's GNG criterion. The claims that she has appeared in major news outlet is pure hoax. —Oluwa2Chainz »» (talk to me) 06:39, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

We need your opinion: Invitation to take survey about Administrator Noticeboard/Incidents
[edit]Hello WikiProject Wiki Loves Women editors :-)
The Wikimedia Foundation Support and Safety team, along with the Anti-Harassment Tools Team, is conducting a survey on the use of the English Wikipedia Administrator Noticeboard/Incidents to handle conflicts and harassment. It’s the first survey of it’s kind and is important information for deciding on improvements.
We are trying to get as many diverse opinions and voices as possible. In addition to the people that use it often, we need to hear from people who post on it rarely but read the board frequently. I want to make sure that you folks know about the survey. And I encourage you to participate if you have some experience with this noticeboard.
The survey should take 10-20 minutes to answer, and your individual responses will not be made public. The survey is delivered through Google Forms. The privacy policy for the survey describes how and when Wikimedia collects, uses, and shares the information we receive from survey participants and can be found here:
If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be mailed to you via Special:Emailuser.

Having a gendered category only when there's an article behind it
[edit]It is not a !voting proposal or RfC, but a discussion draft, and has already had some constructive feedback (e.g. leading with "ghettoization" of articles was a distraction, as were suggesting statistical differences and reasons for them without providing sources). Seeking input on the overall idea. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ< 02:29, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Women in Green – call for participants
[edit]Hello all – I'd like to invite you to join Women in Green, WikiProject Women's article improvement department. The department has not been an active project in the past, but we are now working on kickstarting new collaborative work between editors to improve existing articles about women and women's works. If this sounds like something you're interested in, please add your name to Women in Green's list of active participants! You can check out more details of our discussions so far on the Women in Green talk page, plus our collaboration proposal here. Alanna the Brave (talk) 23:55, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Wiki Women in Red - a proposed User Group
[edit]Having worked for 2 years editing articles for Women In Red, a group of organizers have concluded that sourcing is one of the biggest hurdles in creating articles on women and non-binary genders. Though it is true that a lot of sourcing simply doesn’t exist, it is also true that there are sources, but we have no access to them. As these groups did not typically become subjects for academic study until the 1970s, many of the sources are not on line or are behind paywalls. Failure to include women and non-binary people in the encyclopedia presents a one-dimensional view of society and history. To address those issues, we are forming a new User Group aimed at referencing and support for like-minded groups and would appreciate your input or input from your supporters in our organizational process. See link: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Women_in_Red MauraWen (talk) 09:51 10 July 2018 (UTC)
- It is definitely a good idea, though I am a bit surprised... I thought WiR was already a UserGroup... but indeed, what does exist is m:WikiWomen's User Group... which raises a question... why the overlap ? Anthere (talk)
Redlink links of petential interest
[edit]In case people here were interested, Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Dsp13 List/3#Women has ~90 redlinks for women in the Dictionary of African Biography. There are also a few redlinks from the Historical Dictionary of Women in Sub-Saharan Africa at Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Dsp13 List/11#Women in Sub-Saharan Africa.Dsp13 (talk) 12:23, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
A new newsletter directory is out!
[edit]A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
[edit]Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:25, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources
[edit]I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
This is a one time notice and can't be unsubscribed from. Delivered by: MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:02, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Sandra Aceng. I am so happy to have participated in Wiki Indaba 2023; I learned a lot! When I came across the article on Agnes Nandutu (which you created and which is within the scope of "WikiProject Wiki Loves Women"), I made some edits. Hopefully, by reviewing the article's edit history, each edit will make sense. Would be happy for your feedback or from anyone else. Looking for your Input: Invitation to interview on using Wikidata in other projects
[edit]Hello WikiProject Wiki Loves Women editors, Wikimedia Deutschland has a new project team investigating the different ways Wikidata is being used in the other Wikimedia projects. As your project exists on different Wiki's and uses integrated data from Wikidata, you may have valuable insights that could help us or you might like to share. If you would be interested in such a discussion, we encourage you to register for an interview with us at the following link: Sign Up Here
- The format will be a 1-hour (recorded) call.
- Interviews can only be conducted in English (our apologies).
- Compensation is available. More information here.
- Interview Sessions will be held in January and February.
- Please Sign Up Here if you are interested.
Please note that we probably won’t be able to have sessions with everyone who is interested. Our UX researcher will try to create a good balance of wiki contributors, e.g. in terms of wiki experience, tech experience, editing preferences, gender, disability and more. If you’re a fit, she will reach out to you to schedule an appointment. We hope to hear from you, -- Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 12:55, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
