DYK for Reactions to the 2024 pro-Palestinian protests on university campuses

[edit]

Hi Surtsicna, I notcied you rejected the DYK nomination for Reactions to the 2024 pro-Palestinian protests on university campuses, as the article was a split from a parent and therefore considered not new. Having reviewed WP:DYKNEW prior to nomination, it's clear it comes under the criteria of "an article is considered new if, within the last seven days, the article has been created in mainspace from a redlink or redirect", is this context technically from a redirect. Could you point me in the direct of the guidelines where it states that the article must be based on new content, as opposed to simply being a new article, as you describe in the DYK review? Thanks. CNC (talk) 12:06, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, CNC. Please see WP:DYKAIM, which lists "to showcase new and improved content" as the first of the aims of the project. This precedes WP:DYKNEW, and explains what is meant by "new" article in WP:DYKNEW. The article does not feature enough new content to qualify and may never do so, but it may yet qualify as improved if it undergoes a successful GA nomination first. Surtsicna (talk) 15:41, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I get it now, thanks for explaining. I should have read that part too in hindsight, apologies. CNC (talk) 15:44, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Popes

[edit]

Howdy. Someone (or many) have been undoing or changing the edits you made to the intros/infoboxes of popes - I've since restored some of them. Also, they've been splitting 'Pope' in the succession boxes, into 'Sovereign of the Catholic Church' under church titles & 'Pope' under regnal title (I've undone those), which was creating duplicates. Talk: Donald Trump lead sentence discussion

[edit]

Hi Surtsicna,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to reach out about a consensus debate currently happening on Donald Trump’s page, as it mirrors a similar situation we encountered during Joe Biden’s presidency. Four years ago, we agreed on a consensus to keep the lead sentence format, which I believe was both fair and sensible. Specifically, the line for Joe Biden was: "...who has been the 46th and current president of the United States since 2021." Looking back, I see that you were in favor of maintaining this as the status quo. Talk:Joe Biden/Archive 15#RfC: Should we say he is "current" president in the lead, or not?

I believe we should apply this same structure to Donald Trump’s page, just as we did for Joe Biden and Barack Obama before him, to ensure consistency and clarity. This format clearly conveys the order ("47th"), incumbency ("current"), and start date ("since 2025"), which helps maintain uniformity across presidential biographies.

Given your involvement and knowledge of that earlier consensus, your insights would be incredibly valuable in the current discussion. It’s important that we uphold the same standards regardless of the officeholder, and I’d appreciate it if you could weigh in, share your thoughts, and cast a vote. Here is the current discussion and vote underway: Talk:Donald Trump, Superseding consensus #50, sentences 1 and 2

Thanks a lot, and I hope you’ll consider contributing. TimeToFixThis (talk) 11:32, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
