User Keverding
[edit]Keverding has been posting a string of links, all to the same site. The activity looked to me exactly like spamming, so I deleted the links, and posted warnings on User talk:Keverding. Keverding then restored one of the links, and you posted a final warning, which is exactly what I would have done. However, Keverding has now posted a query on my talk page, which has prompted me to look more closely at the links, and I have decided they are perfectly good links, not spam at all, and I have restored them. I just thought I would let you know, since I have gone against what both you and I had been saying, which might look odd if you noticed it. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:24, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

RFCN
[edit]Hi there. This note is to let you know I've closed the RFCN you started prematurely, as a key step was not done. We must wait for the editor to either respond to the username concerns, or continue to edit elsewhere (thereby signifying they have chosen not to address the issue). This particular user has not edited since your notification, so there is no need to escalate the issue into a RFC. As disruptive usernames only cause problems when they are used, they are no longer an issue when they are no longer used. You may find all this in the instructions at the top of WP:RFCN. Anyway, thanks for your contributions and happy editing! -kotra (talk) 19:58, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

But there aren't any human rights there. The government controls the media. Furthermore, all criminals are convicted before their trial even begins, and the actual trial is a mere formality. Vevo edit
[edit]Hello
This is my first time ever writing a comment on Wikipedia, so please excuse me if I post it in the wrong section.
You recently wrote to me about the edit I made on Vevo. I admit that I wrote what I did on purpose, knowing that it would cause some commotion. But since it was the first time for me to edit a page on Wikipedia like this, I wanted to see how long it would take before the page was re-edited.
Anyhow, I would like to mention the dissatisfaction of many Youtube users about Vevo. Is it OK what is written in the article as long as there's a source included? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.221.141.167 (talk) 02:45, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

AWB
[edit]Hi, believe it or not I've never used AWB in my life. It never worked when I tried to start using it.... Most of the articles started in the past were done with simple cut and paste at a breakneck speed. I no longer mass generate articles as I focus more on quality these days but providing you have a reliable source and some info I don't see why you shouldn't use AWB to create articles. Ask User:Ser Amantio di Nicolao. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:10, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, AWB's a good way to make a large number of similar articles at once. The best thing to do is to open it up, load up the template, and then work on creating. If you're familiar with making a template for copy-and-paste using the {{subst:PAGENAME}} template, then you should be fine. Let me know if you have any other questions and I can try and help you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:31, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Page protection
[edit]I have replied in detail to you. However, you could at the very least, protect the Jiddu Krishnamurti article from frequent uploads by user 65.88.88.126 (New York Libraray). This user deletes valid edits with reverts to his own version claiming it is "the proper version of the article"! He has been warned throughout this episode and has only retaliated throughout. If the user cannot be blocked, at least some protection needs to be provided to other users against this practice. Thanks for your time. Bo.talks (talk) 03:52, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Sara flower
[edit]Hello Pharaoh of the Wizards. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Sara flower, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: well known opera and concert singer is an assertion of importance. Thank you. ϢereSpielChequers 11:16, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Thank you the version I marked merely said Sara Flower was born in 1820.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 11:20, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
- Fair point, but you did tag it within one minute of its creation, also once the capitalisation was resolved it fixed a redlink, though I accept that without moving it "what links here" wouldn't have helped. May I suggest with good faith Newbies it can pay to cut a cut them a little slack? In this case the editor continued writing, but it must have been a somewhat disconcerting welcome. ϢereSpielChequers 13:18, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'd like to second WereSpielChequers' remarks. This is actually a valuable article, with a lot of potential for expansion. If you're new-page patrolling, start at the end and work up. Please do not delete an article literally one minute after it's started (See the instructions here.) A lot of new editors, start their articles gradually, or hit the save button by mistake while they're still drafting. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 15:04, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you I agree actually did not realise you Sara Flower was being refered too when it was merely said she was born in 1820.I will start the end and work up.Thank you for your suggestion.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 15:16, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Pharoah, alternatively you could try out the fairly new one hour option at special:Newpages - that should give enough time for people to get a few edits into an article, without leaving the bad stuff hanging round all day. ϢereSpielChequers 18:06, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Please sign new postings
[edit]Just so you know what's going on:
- I have more than adequately addressed your concerns.
- I do not understand your edit - it doesn't seem to make sense to me.
- Further, it changes the intent of what you originally said, and makes my original response no longer relevant.
- Hence, please respond sequentially, and please sign new postings to keep the chronology.

[edit]Regarding your edit, thanks for the reply. Obviously, we are both coming at this from different angles which do not have much (if any) common ground. I see little point in trying to make you aware of my POV, (for reasons similar to the fact that I don't see much relevance in your POV, so I assume you don't see much relevance in mine). OK. Fair enough. We have different PsOV. - (Not what you would call "an unusual situation".) Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:24, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Pharaoh of the Wizards! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 6 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Help with Image Upload and Copyright requirement
[edit]Thank you for posting to my new USER Site and first article Robert Fritz. I requested a photo from the subject (Robert Fritz) to add to the article I posted. I was provided a .jpg but then realized there were copyright guidelines to follow.
The owner of the image is Robert Fritz. I sent the page from Wiki on selecting the copyright tag.
I was requested to list the copyright as follows:
The copyright holder of this file has irrevocably released all rights to it, allowing it to be freely reproduced, distributed, transmitted, used, modified, built upon, or otherwise exploited in any way by anyone for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial, with or without attribution of the author, as if in the public domain. However, as a courtesy, a link back to http://www.robertfritz.com would be appreciated.
What is the next step? I'm unclear about how to upload the file or this copyright notice linking it to the image. Your help is appreciated. ProjectCREATE (talk) 05:45, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Hello,
One of our students brought this page to my attention.

Can you please advise best practices regarding student access to Wikipedia. Obviously we are all sharing one (static) IP address, and the actions of one user affect everyone.
Blocking our school IP from editing might not be a bad idea. Is there any way to find out who did the vandalism?
