Cover arts
Read MOS:VG: "If the game was released for multiple platforms with a similar cover, art without any platform-related logotypes should be used where possible either from an official source or by editing the cover picture in order to create a platform-neutral picture. The only editing that should be done to the original art to achieve this should be the cropping of platform banners and not the removal of any platform specific logos, publisher logos, 3rd party icons, etc. on the art itself." Can you show me "we" from "we do not want logos plastered on the infobox. The version previously is simply one that is slightly zoomed in but still perfectly valid." Gameinformer is not an official source for the cover art of games. I think trying to "fix" something that isn't broken is a waste of time. ภץאคгöร 07:52, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Nyxaros: - Your cover has an ESRB rating scale, which means that the cover is solely the American version of the game. The guideline didn't say it must use the official source. It says that you can use the official source or edited out the platform banner from an existing cover that may or may not be from an official source. OceanHok (talk) 12:22, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
- ??? It literally says use an official source directly or crop the image from the official source without removing any platform specific logos, publisher logos, 3rd party icons, etc.. ESRB rating scale should only be removed in text if it is not a subject of independent commentary. As one can see, there are no restrictions on cover arts about ESRB. The cover was perfectly adequate. ภץאคгöร 18:09, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
- But that did mean that your cover fails WP:BIAS since you are using the American cover version. OceanHok (talk) 12:04, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- Neither MOS:VG nor WP:BIAS says anything about not using ESRB ratings on the covers, on the contrary, they suggest using English covers for English games in addition to the sentences that I copied above. WP:BIAS is irrelevant to this subject, "systemic bias include gender bias, homophobic bias, sexuality bias, racial bias, and social class bias." and none of these concern a 18+ rating in the slightest. ภץאคгöร 11:47, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- ESRB is American rating. Europe has a different one. Regardless, I have started a discussion at MOS:VG about this issue. OceanHok (talk) 11:58, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- Everyone knows countries/regions have different ratings... ภץאคгöร 12:15, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

- As a comment on your cover art uploads, please make sure your non-free images are under 0.1 megapixels. (100,000 pixels). For most covers, that typically around 200-300 pixels wide, but it depends on aspect ratios. While there are bots on WP that do do this when they find such images, this is expected to be done by the user to start with as to minimize the work done. --Masem (t) 16:47, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Could use your insight on the talk page regarding The Last of Us Part II
Hey man so we're having a discussion on the talk page for The Last of Us Part II regarding whether or not the narrative/transgender character was polarizing among critics and if we should remove it. I saw you chime in on the "Universal acclaim" descriptor thing for The Last of Us Part II's reception, maybe you could chime in here as well. TheMassEffector (talk) 01:25, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Collaboration / Help with Toys for Bob
Hi there! I was going to put this question to the Video Game WikiProject, but I thought I'd reach out and see if you might have the bandwidth. I managed to get Toys for Bob to GA about a year ago, and I'm hoping to get it to FA by the end of the year. I don't want to just get away with throwing the current GA into the FA process, because I think there are probably some gaps that could be filled in their Activision era: specifically any key staff who deserve to be highlighted, and their work on Skylanders, Crash, and Spyro. I saw you had done some high quality editing around these topics, and wanted to see if you felt like collaborating on an FA, or even just helping me dig up some sources I haven't found yet. Would be happy to return the favor on another collaboration that you have your eye on. Shooterwalker (talk) 15:41, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Shooterwalker: - I am afraid I may not help you with the article if you are aiming for FAC. My native language is not English and FAC has such a strict standard on prose quality. My "help" would probably drag the article down instead. I can help find relevant sources for you though. OceanHok (talk) 06:24, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
- The source / research help would be huge. I'd be interested to mention prominent employees who played a big role on key titles, if those sources exist. Thanks for trying. Shooterwalker (talk) 17:26, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

ChallengeCick (talk) 08:32, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- @ChallengeCick: - There is not enough information for it to have a standalone article for now. We know too little about it, and creating an article for it right now is premature. You can work on its draft for now. OceanHok (talk) 08:43, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- @OceanHok: - So what you're saying is when we get closer to the game's release and we know a bit more about it, you'll revert back to video game infobox that I did? ChallengeCick (talk) 09:28, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- @ChallengeCick: - Yes, maybe when there are previews and interviews, then we can have a proper article for the game. OceanHok (talk) 11:04, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

House of Ashes edit history
Hey there, @OceanHok! Thank you so much for... well... giving me a "thank you" notice for my contributions in the House of Ashes article! This is my second week of being registered in Wikipedia, so it really makes me glad especially as a new user that my work on the site warrants stuff like this! Appreciate it, man, hope you have a good rest of your day!
Troubled.elias (talk) 12:39, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Troubled.elias: - Hi! I am the original page creator for House of Ashes and I am very impressed by your work on the article. Keep up the good work! If you encounter any problem while editing video game articles, feel free to find me here or leave a note at WT:VG which can offer valuable feedback! OceanHok (talk) 13:59, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you @OceanHok! At the moment, things are going swimmingly, but in case things get extremely confusing for me I'll make sure to leave a notice in that page. Right now, my concerns with the article involve the non-free material that I added there - the screenshots of the gameplay and the characters, to be specific. To make sure I'm not doing anything wrong, I have to see if the images follow WP:NFCC, and in particular the guidelines on contextual significance (WP:NFCCP#8). Having compared the uses of similar screenshots in articles that have GA or FA status, I'm fairly certain that they do follow fair use, but nonetheless advice from more experienced contributors like you would be appreciated. Hope this isn't too much of a bother haha. Thank you, and take care out there! Troubled.elias (talk) 03:12, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Troubled.elias: - We usually try to keep the number of non free-use image as low as possible in an article. Typically, a cover art and a gameplay screenshot is sufficient. I personally don't think the character screenshot really add much to the article. OceanHok (talk) 05:32, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- @OceanHok, ah - may I ask why you think that's the case? If I know more about your first impressions on the screenshot's inclusion, I can perhaps expound on the reason why I felt like the inclusion was justified, based on the game's reception from critics and fans. We can move this to somewhere more appropriate if you want - just tell me where would be better cause I'm still learning the ropes of Wikipedia lol. Thanks! Troubled.elias (talk) 05:58, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Troubled.elias: - The character screenshot is just a photo of two men in military costumes. It is a bit boring and frankly, not really that representative of the game. I am not saying that you cannot put the character screenshot there though. This is just my personal preference. As long as you have a valid rationale regarding why the screenshot must stay, you can keep it. OceanHok (talk) 11:42, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- @OceanHok - very fair point wrt contextual significance! To that end, I have gathered a more appropriate screenshot that more directly demonstrates the game's primary theme in question. I have just requested that the file you discussed be deleted, as it is no longer used on the Wikipedia page. If you have the time, you can recheck the article again and see if the new screenshot feels relevant to and representative of the game. Thank you for your insight! Troubled.elias (talk) 14:24, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- Follow-up --- to increase the new screenshot's contextual significance in the article, I plan to elaborate more on the critical reception around the two characters' relationships. Hopefully that'd be alright. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Troubled.elias (talk • contribs) 14:28, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News
Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Annapurna Interactive logo.png
A tag has been placed on File:Annapurna Interactive logo.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Dear Ocean,
Gina Lees wrote that exhaustion level in the game is redundant, because exhaustion does not limit the player much, anyway. Likewise, she wrote something like that damage system is not especially needed, either, because you can heal quickly with unlimited number of bandages. Here I quoted Peter Glagowski, who wrote that survival aspects of the game can be ignored.
These were, as you can see, examples of what Gina Lees wrote: "Breakpoint has the habit of never fully committing to the new elements it introduces". There was a point behind quoting Peter Glagowski here.
I can understand what you thought: "oh, this guy made proper piece of work, but has put the quotes in a complete disorder, fist he quotes Gina Lees, then Glagowski, then Gina Lees, then Glagowski again, I'll organise it better". No, there was a bit of planning behind that.
I understand it is a bit my fault, that when writing "Also, from the review it seems the player has unlimited supply of bandages, which makes healing too easy" I did not add: which makes the damage system partly innecessary. Maybe this would be clearer.
Also, it seems you completely deleted: "She summarises: "Although co-op play dilutes the boredom that sets in during repetitive missions, the game never quite finds itself among a mishmash of survival and RPG elements" ".
Was I too harsh and over-dosed? I was trying not to be harsh, I dutifully wrote the developers fixed some of the issues noted by Glagowski. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MichalZim (talk • contribs) 10:06, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

Video game release date
Hi,
I'm confused about how video game release dates work. With titles like Necromunda: Hired Gun and Sniper Elite 5, we see examples of games that release on different days worldwide, as shown in the following Twitter links made by the developers to clarify when the game will release.
Necromunda: Hired Gun - https://twitter.com/playhiredgun/status/1398277888894459905
Sniper Elite 5 - https://twitter.com/SniperElite/status/1529128453315997696
When these sorts of links appear, what are the actual release dates? Are they different based on the region? Which release date should I write in the game's infobox?
- @Venky64: - I will just follow what reliable sources say. In that case, June 1 for Necromunda and May 26 for Sniper Elite. OceanHok (talk) 03:14, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
