Hoeneß

[edit]

As a matter of fact, it is. The accusation, process and sentence were one of the major high-profile cases in recent years and were covered in great detail by not only German, but also international media outlets, due to his personal history of public stylizing himself as beacon of morality and frequent comments on political and social issues. His crimes are associated with him the same way the corruption affair which led to Germany winning its World Cup 2006 bid are associated with the late Beckenbauer, and are routinely brought up in articles about Hoeneß. -esse quam videri - to be rather than to seem (talk)

The tax evasion case would not have made him so prominent on its own, Hoeneß was already very well-known for his footballing career and his work as manager of FC Bayern Munich. The case got so much media coverage because the accused was so prominent. The tax evasion is already mentioned in the second paragraph of the lede, so it is by no means hidden to the reader. Besides, that happened about ten years ago and is no big topic anymore (at least in German media). If you compare his crimes with the corruption affair of Beckenbauer, then this is also only mentioned in the last paragraph of lede and not in the first sentence. --Jaellee (talk) 14:51, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Double nationalities in article

[edit]

Just letting you know that there are other articles that include double nationality in the lead. Including on athletes. Maybe it should possibly say Swiss Born Croatian Footballer. What do you think? Servite et contribuere (talk) 23:36, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. For the nationality of footballers in the lede see for example Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 123#Nationality in lede. --Jaellee (talk) 12:37, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your support. I would prefer it if you summed it up though so I don’t have to read some of these things I find confusing. I might put in for Ivan Rakitić, born in Switzerland to Croatian parents, he initially represented Switzerland at youth level before shifting his allegiance to Croatia. I would love it if you recommend a sentence for me. I might put one in. If it doesn’t seem right, maybe change it. It might be that one I said, or different one. Feel free to review it, and if you think I could do better, please tell me, it helps me improve. Thank you Servite et contribuere (talk) 13:25, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As it says in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 123#Nationality in lede: The standard wording for those situations should always be
'X is a professional footballer. Born in Y, he represents Z at international level'.
For Rakitić trhis would mean:
Rakitić is a professional footballer. Born in Switzerland, he represents Croatia at international level.
