- IP range used by Woking123 (talk · contribs) who was blocked by @Yunshui:. GiantSnowman 11:11, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- (Keeping discussion in one place.) Thanks, and I found the AN post. But I asked for any evidence you may have to that these are operated for the same person. And I see Legacypac was asking for similar at AN. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:13, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- As I explained at the ARBCOM talk page, it's a clear case of DUCK - same editing pattern, same articles, same content. See also here where @SilkTork: agreed it is a sock. GiantSnowman 11:18, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
- I see no agreement from SilkTork that it was a sock in that discussion. Only that they note that the user is blocked as a suspected sock. A note and block that YOU made. You're basically saying that because someone saw that you blocked them based on personal suspicion, that they therefor agree with your suspicion. That's simply not how that works. You may feel it's a clear case of duck, but not only is that not a policy, it's not even a guideline. It's an essay which holds no basis in policy. But even if it was a clear case of duck, that doesn't grant you the discretionary sanction rights. You still need some actual evidence to back up your claim that they're a sock. Otherwise we'd be a complete wild west where anyone could block anyone and simply claim that they're a sock of any randomly blocked editor they choose. Considering you recently blocked an IP, for an edit that was not only correct but also sourced, and you then reverted to the incorrect stats, I'd also like to see your evidence that this range here is really used by this Woking123 because that range is not among the confirmed socks of that account, nor is any other IP for that matter.84.219.252.47 (talk) 06:29, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi there mystery IP - see the comment that "I'm OK with the revert and block of 2a02:c7f:9e12:8f00:6c51:14d8:1b23:f46c as they made the same edit on the article as User:Cnomis who is blocked as a sock of User:Woking123". If you want policy, see WP:BLOCKEVASION - "Anyone is free to revert any edits made in violation of a block, without giving any further reason and without regard to the three-revert rule". There is no obligation to revert, but many do so, including me. GiantSnowman 08:22, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
- Again, that's not agreeing with the supposition that they're a sock, it's simply noting that they are indeed blocked. It may be that they do agree, but that's not quite what they are saying. That they are fine with blocking someone based on doing the same edit as someone blocked does not necessarily mean that they think that they're the same person as they could be fine with doing so for any number of reasons. If the edit in question is correct (and given recent history, there's actually quite good odds of that being the case), plenty of others will make the same edit. Claiming that because someone makes the same edit as another user is evidence in and off itself, of those being the same user, is absurd and someone you don't actually believe as evidenced by that you've blocked users making correct and sourced edits for "vandalism" (see my comments on the evidence talkpage for the arbcom case). You've essentially put several articles in a state of being impossible to correct now because you believe any correction to what the source is currently saying, to being done by a sock, simply based on that they are making "the same edit", which is obvious that they would since the edit was correct, so anyone else correcting it would obviously be the same. So to call on blockevasion as the policy for which to block, is simply not not correct here, because you were not asked under what policy you issued the block, we asked you what evidence you based your claim that they are the same user on, a claim you still have provided no evidence for and if you're unable to back up, I might point out that WP:ASPERSIONS exist. So to reiterate, please, what evidence are you basing the claim that they are the same person on? That they are making the same edit, is very VERY insufficient. Especially considering WP:AGF also exist. 84.219.252.47 (talk) 23:42, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

The ArbCom case
These are just my personal views and obviously I'm not basing it on any investigative assessment of the issue. I just feel it's unfortunate that when an issue could have been sorted out with a reinforced commitment from you, a few editors still find the need to ensure that you're hauled up to the village centre and made to undergo what you're undergoing – all past contributions on one side. Anyway, what I've seen of your work has been commendable. My best wishes to you for the new year, Lourdes 02:56, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

Hello! A while ago you deleted one of my edits because you thought it was intended as a test. I did intend it as a real edit and provided a rational for it. Braakensiek
We have many articles on notable people that need improvement. Braakensiek had been notable since the 1990s and has a whopping 1,221 newspaper hits in Factiva. Whacking a "notability" tag on the article of a recently deceased person at a time when their death is international news and the article is receiving maximum attention is highly distasteful. The Drover's Wife (talk) 11:38, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- Her notability is indisputable in this case, as I just demonstrated with the amount of newspaper citations. It's one thing, if you're intent on marking your scent on the article, to tag it for references or some sort of specific improvement - it's another to tag a person that you know, or should know if you'd done a basic Google, is notable with a "this person may not be notable tag" at a time when their article is the subject of international interest and media coverage due to their death. I'm not your cleanup crew - if you want work done, ask nicely or do it yourself. The Drover's Wife (talk) 11:42, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
Lévy Madinda/external links in general
Good morning to you,
first of all apologies for not contacting you directly, even though i'll "defend myself" saying I did not write :@Mattythewhite: (please see here http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User_talk:Mattythewhite#Lévy_Madinda) to complain about you or anything, merely seeking another opinion. As you see, he totally disagrees with the removal of the external links (this subject has played several years in Spain and the first three links are from that country, if you discount FUTBOLME.com the other too - especially BDFUTBOL.com, which is 100% reliable for us - contain a lot of info and stats).
I also feel the choice of infobox outline you prefer is more difficult to work with when you want to edit/alter, but Matty says they both produce the same output so i'll have to respect that and thus left it be.
Attentively, sorry for any inconvenience (again, my summary was not all it could be even though it was not aggressive per se) and happy 2019 (note: should you choose to reply, please do so at Matty to keep the exchange "compact") --Quite A Character (talk) 11:51, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- (per part of your last input at Matty's) Correct, I did not originally ping you (and again I apologise, cannot stress it enough), I wrote you a direct message in your page today. Same thing, no (does not excuse for the tardiness, but somehow makes up for it)? --Quite A Character (talk) 13:29, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
I see, thanks for explaining and clearing the mess (I created). Won't happen again :) --Quite A Character (talk) 13:52, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
Reverted edit to Jamille Matt
Hi, I am wondering why my edit was considered 'not needed'? This player scoring in an extremely famous victory for his club is surely notable enough to be included in his article? MotorsportFan2012 (talk) 15:19, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
You still haven't really sufficiently addressed why it wasn't notable enough to be included in the article. This was a major victory for a League Two club over a Premier League opponent who were English champions only a few years ago. Without Matt's goal, the result wouldn't exist. This is undoubtedly a notable moment in this player's career and I think his article would benefit from having it included for future reference. I've seen plenty of other articles on players in which individual goals in regular league games are included. There is only information of one other goal on the article for Matt during his time at Newport County, so there's no risk of the article going down a slippery slope of listing every goal he has scored. The other goalscorer for Newport in the match, Pádraig Amond, has an individual goal in the FA Cup last season against Tottenham included, will that also be removed?MotorsportFan2012 (talk) 17:06, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
Please do not move content-dispute stuff from ANI to the help desk.
The Help desk is for help with using or editing Wikipedia. When there is a content dispute, it belongs on the article's talk page. All we can do at the help desk is to tell the user to go to the talk page, as that is the "help" we give to users involved in a content dispute. If the dispute gets deeper than that, we point the user to WP:DISPUTE, which can eventually getall the way up to ANI, so moving back from ANI to the help desk is basically circular. -Arch dude (talk) 19:25, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Editing restrictions
Hello GiantSnowman. I would like to reiterate that I fully support any formal editing restrictions you mentioned you were interested in implementing. I sincerely believed I was following Tony’s interpretation which specified no t-bans, so long as my behavior was not “controversial” (disruptive). I was wrong, I understand how some think I am gaming the system, and it reflects poorly upon myself. Despite what has been said, I am not “self-destructing” and the community’s trust is important to me. I hope the restrictions, whatever they may be, are indefinite, and that I may show how easy it is for me to meet their expectations.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 18:32, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

Directors in Football article
Hi, GS? I have a question. Category:Manchester United F.C. directors and chairmen and Category:Directors of football clubs in England, In this category, What is the meaning of director?
- (1) Corporate directors / Member of Board of directors
- (2) Director of football
- (3) Both
I think that this category means (1) Corporate directors / Member of Board of directors. Is it right? Footwiks (talk) 05:17, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for prompt reply. I have one more question! What is the exact range of Category:Manchester United F.C. non-playing staff?
I think that range is (1) Is it right?
(1) Not including: corporate directors, front office staff. Including: All coaching staff (except manager), All support staff (kit man, masseur, team doctor and so on), All performance staff (scout, director of football, strategy analyst)
(2) Literally non-playing staff - All personnel except players.

Removing unsourced heights from footballer infoboxes
Hello. When you do, please could you note in your edit summary that you've done so. "Clean up" and marking as minor edit doesn't cover it. Thanks, Struway2 (talk) 12:21, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. FYI, the reasons for my suggestion that cleanup/minor didn't cover it include:
- because WP:BURDEN says "When tagging or removing material for lacking an inline citation, please state your concern that it may not be possible to find a published reliable source for the content, and therefore it may not be verifiable" (the associated footnote goes into more detail); and
- because it's helpful to editors on whose watchlists the articles appear if we're explicit about what we're doing, so they can more easily spot edits that might need action on their part. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:43, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Happy Adminship Anniversary

You've made your point — there's no need to bore on about it. I'll just make the point that there are dozens (perhaps hundreds) of player movements at the end of each Scottish window. I frankly don't have the time to find a specific reference for every single move, particularly those that aren't reported by BBC Sport. If someone adds one, great; if not, it should be covered by general references (soccerbase / soccerway) anyway. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 13:27, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

Gillingham Fc lover
I have noted your neutral, factual, and informative approach in this situation: User talk:Gillingham Fc lover. You have approached him twice to ask for sources, and provided links to our guidelines and policies, and then cautioned him that if he carries on he may be blocked. You have avoided templates, and remained calm and civil. To have challenged a new editor while under investigation for inappropriately challenging new editors takes some courage. You didn't shirk away from it, but dealt with it appropriately. SilkTork (talk) 10:03, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
Fodbold-fan
Given that you have blocked this user twice recently, and you are getting tetchy with them over the latest incident: User talk:Fodbold-fan, do you think this is one of those times when getting in someone else to look at it might be appropriate? SilkTork (talk) 10:07, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- If he'd have continued to not understand what I was trying to say then my next step would be to raise this at a wider forum - but I seem to have got through to him, as I've found no problems with any of his recent edits that have popped up on my watchlist. GiantSnowman 10:08, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- That's good. I can see that you have given him positive feedback on his recent editing. I think a number of us like to deal with matters ourselves (I do). And I think it can be tricky judging just when we need to step back a bit and have someone else take a look. I think that the moment we find ourselves getting irritated and typing out stuff like "And no, for the 100th time" and "If you're not competent to be editing then you shouldn't be editing" is perhaps the point at which we need to step back. To be honest, I have typed out stuff like that hundreds of times. But before clicking "Publish changes" I pause, then start to rewrite it. And maybe rewrite it some more. If I can't get it down to something neutral, then I walk away. We can't always control our irritation, but the nature of the internet does give us the opportunity to pause before saying something in public that we may later regret. Uniformity with football/soccer for South Africa
At Talk:South Africa national football team#Requested move 17 January 2019, you mentioned having uniformity for using 'football' or 'soccer' relating to South Africa. As the discussion closed as do not move, I was wondering how to proceed. Back in the April discussion, I made a list of pages which would need to be moved. The are 103 pages with 'soccer' in the title (14 articles, 88 categories, 1 template). Should another move discussion be opened, for instance at Soccer in South Africa? And should the discussion include all 14 aforementioned articles? (Then if the discussion decides to use 'football', the categories can be moved via WP:CFDS?). Thanks, S.A. An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Julia Grant (trans woman). Since you had some involvement with the Julia Grant (trans woman) redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. I have made this request as the subject, Julia Grant, has her own Wikipedia article, so I feel this redirect is unnecessary duplication. TrottieTrue (talk) 02:08, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

An arbitration case regarding GiantSnowman has now closed, and the final decision is available at the link above. The following remedy has been enacted:
GiantSnowman is admonished for overuse of the rollback and blocking functions, and reminded to "lead by example" and "strive to model appropriate standards of courtesy"; to "respond promptly and civilly to queries about their Wikipedia-related conduct and administrative actions and to justify them when needed"; to not use admin tools in "cases in which they have been involved" including "conflicts with an editor" and "disputes on topics"; to "treat newcomers with kindness and patience"; and to apply these principles in all interactions with all editors. GiantSnowman is placed under review indefinitely; during the review, with the exception of obvious vandalism, he is subject to the following restrictions:
- He may not revert another editor's contribution without providing an explanation in the edit summary. This includes use of MediaWiki's rollback function, any tool or script that provides a similar function, and any manual revert without an edit summary. Default edit summaries, such as those provided by the undo function or Twinkle's rollback feature, are not sufficient for the purpose of this sanction
- He may not block an editor without first using at least three escalating messages and template warnings
- He may not consecutively block an editor; after one block he is advised to consult with another admin or bring the matter to the attention of the community
- He may not place a warning template on an editor's talk page without having first placed an appropriate self-composed message containing links to relevant policies and guidelines
- He may not place more than five consecutive warning templates or messages; after which he is advised to consult with another admin
- He may not use MassRollback.js
Violations may be reported by any editor to WP:AE. GiantSnowman may appeal any or all of these sanctions, including the review itself, directly to the Arbitration Committee at any time.

Zak Dearnley
Hello! Could you explain your edits on the Zak Dearnley article clearer please? I'm always learning so it would be helpful to explain the changes, otherwise I won't know what to improve on etc.
→ Stats. The statistics were sourced by Soccerway, as was the fact Dearnley was on the bench for Man. United in 2016-17. Yet were removed by you? Any reason, or was it a mistake like the absence of the "Premier League" row in the statistics table ([diff]). Any difference for using Soccerway or Soccerbase?
→ Infobox spacing. I've seen a few editors change it the way you did, but have also seen other editors do it the way it was pre-your edits. Is there an "official" way to do it? Would be helpful to know.
→ Reflist. Similar to above, is "Reflist" intended to be used over "Reflist|30em"?
Thanks. R96Skinner (talk) 14:18, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Understood. I've always found Soccerway more informative than Soccerbase but if Soccerbase is the one to be used for EFL players then fair enough, I will remember that. How about the infobox spacing [diff]? Is there a guideline behind it or is it be spaced like that for a certain reason? R96Skinner (talk) 14:46, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Ha, that was pretty obvious. Not entirely sure how I started doing it the other way. Anyway, thanks! R96Skinner (talk) 14:52, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
Nicknames
Hi, I saw you removing nicknames a few times already, but I think you don't look at the right MOS page for this. E.g. here, you link to WP:MOSNICKNAME, but that link is about article titles, not about lead sections. The link you want is MOS:NICKNAME (yeah, it is confusing), which deals with nicknames in the first sentence of an article. This states
"If a person is known by a nickname used in lieu of or in addition to a given name, and it is not a common hypocorism[d] of one of their names, or a professional alias, it is usually presented between double quotation marks following the last given name or initial; the quotation marks are not put in lead-section boldface. Example:
Bunny Berigan has: Roland Bernard "Bunny" Berigan."
It seems to me that the version of Aguero before your edit actually followed the MOS guidance quite closely, and your edit made the article less compliant, and less useful for many readers who might recognise him more easily by his shirt name than by his real name, but no longer find the shirt name in the lead. CITEVAR
Hey GS, re: this edit, I'm not sure WP:CITEVAR means what you think it means. I'm pretty sure it doesn't trump MOS:ITALICTITLE. The Punch, as a newspaper, is a major work so should be italicised. Nzd (talk) 14:23, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. Out of interest, which bit of CITEVAR were you referring to? My reading of this (which could be wrong, of course), is that it relates to arbitrary changes to the citation style used within an article (the WP:CITESTYLE section above lists examples of the various citation styles, e.g. APA style, ASA style, etc.), or switching between e.g. template/non-template versions, language variations or date formats. The other bits you changed (which I have no issue with) seemed to be simply code tidying (other than the placement of the ref), so I'm unclear how CITEVAR comes into play here. FYI, I use the WebRef bookmarklet to generate web citations. The code outputs slightly differently (it puts the
|url=
at the end), but as the visible output is the same, I don't see this as an issue personally. Others are, of course, free to "fix" such things. Cheers, Nzd (talk) 21:09, 12 February 2019 (UTC)- Thanks for that, I'd read the edit summary as implying that I'd somehow violated it. Might be worth asking the bookmarklet developer if they'll reorder the params. Cheers, Nzd (talk) 12:50, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

Christopher Carrick
Hi GS, I realise this was a really long time ago, but can I just check something related to this edit please? The edit added 0's to the Bradford City stats, with the summary never played a 1st team League or Cup game for Bradford City (per Terry Frost's 1988 book
. Does this mean that he appears in the book, but doesn't have any stats, or that he doesn't appear in the book? I ask because Joyce has him down as playing for Bradford Park Avenue, not Bradford City. (FYI: @Egghead06). Thanks, Nzd (talk) 09:11, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Nzd and Egghead06: I'll check again tonight. GiantSnowman 09:53, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Nzd and Egghead06: Carrick is not listed in the A-Z of City players to make a first-team appearance (page 380 of the Frost book covers Bookman to Conlin). GiantSnowman 16:28, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, Just off out but I'll change this per Joyce when I get back. It wouldn't be the first time the West Ham Who's Who book has made a silly mistake like that. (@Egghead06) Nzd (talk) 16:48, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Nzd: If the club was referred to just as 'Bradford' at some point then I imagine that it will have been misinterpreted as Bradford City (being the bigger club) even though, traditionally, 'Bradford' referred to 'Park Avenue' - 'City' was always 'City'. GiantSnowman 16:51, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Northern Ireland women's national football team etc
Hi GiantSnowman
Thanks for your support[8] at WP:CFD 2019 February 20#Association_football_in_Northern_Ireland, and for the listing at WP:FOOTY.
In looking for pages to add to that nom, I found Category:Northern Ireland women's national football team+subcats and its head article Northern Ireland women's national football team+spin-off pages, plus Category:Northern Ireland national football team+subcats and its head article Northern Ireland national football team+spin-off pages
Similarly Category:Republic of Ireland women's national football team+subcats / article:Republic of Ireland women's national football team, Category:Republic of Ireland national football team+subcats / article:Republic of Ireland national football team.
I omitted them from the nom because a) I had done enough cats and was tired, and b) I reckoned they might need more thought, and c) any renamings should probably tart as WP:RM discussions on the head articles.
Having thought a bit more, my current tentative conclusion is to leave them all as they are, because "Northern Ireland women's national football team" and "Republic of Ireland national football team" appear to be unambiguous terms..
in the case of national football teams in Ireland, I don't think there is any ambiguity with Gaelic football. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA)'s major competitive structures are primarily based on counties. Inter-provincial GAA competitions are the biggest geographical units for competition, but nowhere near as significant as the inter-county competitions. The game at its higher levels is so heavily dominated by Ireland that inter-provincial competitions are not even contested by British GAA (the only GAA provincial council of outside Ireland). So despite the size of the Irish diaspora, there is no national Gaelic football team in Ireland, 'cos there are no opponents.
What do you think? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:47, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Permissions for uploading club crests
I've heard a rumour that one of the football clubs in Gibraltar is going to change their name/colours/etc. at the end of the season when the two leagues merge into one 17 team division. Will Vaulks
Hi GS, Loads of IPs are trying to change the Will Vaulks lede from English professional footballer to either Welsh professional footballer or even Welsh international footballer, and changing his flag in Rotherham United F.C. squad list, all based on his recent call-up to the Welsh national squad. Am I right in thinking we stick with birth nationality until the player is capped? And (less contentiously) they are not an international footballer until they are capped? If I am right, is this worthy of semi protection until either he gets a cap or the current international period has passed? I don't want to have to revert anymore, so if I'm in the wrong please tell me! Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 13:56, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

DG Mester
Afternon GS. The user DG mester has been making disruptive edits since September 2018, repeatedly removing references to the club country in the lead. Occasionally an edit is actually correct, piping association football in a few instances. On his talk page you will see numerous warnings, at which point they tend to go on an edit hiatus only to return to their favourite topics later and try the same thing again. At least now they are using edit summaries, and in Wayne Rooney's case are actually using the Talk Page. The strange thing is, on other edits they are actually inserting the club country into the lede [9][10] and have been reverting their own edits yesterday only to start new ones today. So, not sure what their motivation is. Anyway, hoping you could add user to your busy list of people to have a word with. Ta. Koncorde (talk) 12:22, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
- Behaviour is continuing today. Lots of removal of references to countries, cities, or location specific information. Has been warned again by another admin. Koncorde (talk) 16:08, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Eduardo Bauzá
On 14 March 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Eduardo Bauzá, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that after Argentine politician Eduardo Bauzá retired from politics he produced noodles in his family business? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Eduardo Bauzá. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Eduardo Bauzá), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

CU question
To answer your question from Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Woking123, since the page got archived before I could, no CheckUser wouldn't tell us anything. The technical details viewable by CheckUsers are not tied directly to an account, but to individual edits or logged actions. 90 days after the edit was made most of the technical details, including the IP address, get deleted for privacy reasons. As I understand it, there is some residual information left over even after the 90 day limit, but it's not meaningful for SPI purposes. There are also rare cases where CU's will store the results of a check on a private wiki allowing for future checks past the 90 limit, but that's not applicable here. I hope that clears things up. Brittany
OK no problem. Is now a good time to mention the contents of Category:Spanish footballers by autonomous community which led me to make the error with Brittany? Crowsus (talk) 15:04, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- Haha yup, could a bot be created for it tho? It could actually help in one area of interest for me, as the current Category:Basque footballers is a bit ambiguous, it should only really refer to the Basque Country (autonomous community) but some people have (innocently enough) linked to players from elsewhere in the Basque Country (greater region). Renaming the cat to Category:Basque (autonomous community) footballers would look a bit crap, but Category:Footballers from the Basque Country (autonomous community) is a bit better, and is consistent with the article name for the territory and would remove that ambiguity.
- OK thanks, I might do that. Crowsus (talk) 15:20, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

John Kelly (footballer, born 1913)
Hello. I think the Frost book has confused the personal details of John Kelly (footballer, born 1913) with those of Jack Kelly (footballer). Both were at Leeds in 1935, as Joyce's book and ENFA will confirm, and they apparently were both born in 1913. But Jack Kelly is the one born in Hetton-le-Hole, whereas John was born in Sandbach: see Jack's profile and John's profile at Tony Hill's LUFC site. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:02, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
- To be fair to Mr Frost, his research was done over 30 years ago, when it took rather more work to follow up a player's career than it does these days. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:10, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

2019 Q1 NFooty report and questions
Hi new friend :-) Since the first quarter of the year has closed, I thought I'd share with you my findings so far. This year to date, 85 footy biography AfDs have closed, a pace of 340 per year, or almost one per day. Of those 85 AfDs, 60 articles (70%) did not meet WP:NFOOTY. Of those 60, 56 (93%) did not meet GNG and were deleted. I think you'll agree those no-NFooty/no-GNG AfDs get about 3 !votes each on average, so with the nom, it's 4 editors performing a WP:BEFORE search for each AfD nom, which, for 60 AfDs, is 240 BEFORE searches performed so far this year for no-NFooty bios, a pace of 960 per year, in which 93% of the time the findings confirm that players who don't meet NFooty almost always lack significant coverage sufficient to meet GNG, are not notable, and won't survive AfD. If we didn't perform 240 BEFORE searches on non-notable subjects, how many new articles on actually notable subjects could we have created, or feature articles promoted, infobox stats updated, vandals reverted, etc.? On a scale of 1–10, how persuaded are you so far that this is a problem that needs addressing? Thanks for your answers; I promise I'll leave you alone until Q2. :-D Leviv ich 01:27, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

Hello, You just deleted all the edits I have done on Ayanda Patosi. Why would you do them? I am trying to improve the article by adding legitimately sourced content. Shervin27 (talk) 14:00, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

Possible outing
Hi GiantSnowman. I saw you posted early on in Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Blocked for a mean comment made a decade ago?. I am concerned that Symmachus Auxiliarus has outed the original poster [11] at the start of their comment. Please redact if necessary. I originally asked Oshwah but they have not edited very recently, while I noticed you have edited very recently. starship.paint ~ KO 08:04, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Starship.paint, Symmachus Auxiliarus, and Oshwah: please can you explain how this is possible OUTting? 08:14, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- First I don't mean to say this is a malicious out by Symmachus Auxiliarus. The original poster at ANI self-outed in posting an ANI thread about their old account. Oshwah redacted the original poster's name to protect their clean start from their old account. Symmachus Auxiliarus seems to have accidentally mentioned the original poster's name in that edit. starship.paint ~ KO 08:17, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- Oh yes, no implication that it was malicious at all! I suggest you contact WP:OVERSIGHT, given the number of possible revdels required? GiantSnowman 08:50, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, I wrote that long before Oshwah had undertaken any oversight actions, though. Not after. He must have missed it when looking through the thread. I’d appreciate if this could be taken care by someone with the necessary permissions/user right, ASAP... GiantSnowman, it should only need to be revdeled once, since all other mentions of the name have already been redacted. Symmachus Auxiliarus (talk) 13:50, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Oshwah: can you oversight please? GiantSnowman 13:54, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- GiantSnowman - Okay, I'll take a look at WP:OVERSIGHT. Thank you - and same to Symmachus Auxiliarus. starship.paint ~ KO 14:03, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- Oshwah originally did suppress the information. After discussion on the Oversight mailing list it was determined that it is not outing and not suppressible. Oshwah reverted the suppression of the name. ~ GB fan 14:08, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- @GB fan: thank you for clarifying. @Starship.paint: please see GB fan's explanation. No action required. GiantSnowman 14:24, 15 April 2019 (UTC)

Administrators must secure their accounts
The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.

This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:34, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

- Following a request for comment, the subject-specific notability guideline for pornographic actors and models (WP:PORNBIO) was removed; in its place, editors should consult WP:ENT and WP:GNG.
- XTools Admin Stats, a tool to list admins by administrative actions, has been revamped to support more types of log entries such as AbuseFilter changes. Two additional tools have been integrated into it as well: Steward Stats and Patroller Stats.
- In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases,
the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions
; administrators found failing to have adequately done sowill not be resysopped automatically
. All current administrators have been notified of this change. - Following a formal ratification process, the arbitration policy has been amended (diff). Specifically, the two-thirds majority required to remove or suspend an arbitrator now excludes (1) the arbitrator facing suspension or removal, and (2) any inactive arbitrator who does not respond within 30 days to attempts to solicit their feedback on the resolution through all known methods of communication.
- In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases,
- A request for comment is currently open to amend the community sanctions procedure to exclude non XfD or CSD deletions.
- A proposal to remove pre-2009 indefinite IP blocks is currently open for discussion.

Hi GS, if you get a moment could you take a look at this page (you commented at AfD earlier). An editor with a possible COI is adding unusual content... the page is in mainspace and not a draft so needs to be 'presentable'. I've removed it a couple of times and left messages at their TP but they are not cooperating, rather WP:TE just putting it back in. Am I overreacting a little? Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 21:13, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
- OK, I hadn't considered it vandalism, just not useful (and unsourced). I'll just allow to AfD run its course then. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 08:43, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
- Now they have twice removed your comment at my TP. Removed all comments from their own TP (fair enough). Not clarified the CoI query. Eagleash (talk) 11:53, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'd left a COI notice at the page previously and requested clarification subsequently (all deleted). But as you say WP:CIR. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 12:07, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Antonio Horvath moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Antonio Horvath, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Keigo Moriyasu
Hi GS, you recently deleted a page creation of mine, Keigo Moriyasu, who played briefly for JPV Marikina F.C. in the 2018 Philippines Football League. The Philippines Football League is professional, as of WP:FOOTY, and as it was not replaced by the now-defunct Philippine Premier League, still stands as the top division for Filipino football. I provided a source for Moriyasu's appearances in the PPL, but the link is now dead, so I believe I updated it with the archived link. However, as I do not have admin privileges, I cannot view the now-deleted page to confirm this. The link was directly from the PPL official website, so I think this stands as a valid link. Could this page please be reinstated?
Thanks

Dennis Lukens
Hello GiantSnowman. I am contacting you regarding the updates to the page about Dennis Lukens. I would like you to reconsider reverting or revising the edits that I made, accepting some or all of the changes. Dennis Lukens is affiliated with Soccer Camps in the US and is actively advertising those camps. That is relevant and part of his professional career. He has a page specifically to establish credibility for himself and his activities running those camps, including the actual assessment of those camps should be included to give a balanced perspective.
As I referenced and cited (granted there are many more pages that could be cited) the actual reviews of those camps and the experience of the children and parents has not been positive. Most complain about being swindled and never getting their money back.
You described a balanced view. Let me know how to better edit the facts into the page so that the narrative is on balance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tbmartinwiki (talk • contribs) 12:31, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

The WMF exercised this new ability for the first time on the English Wikipedia on 10 June 2019 to temporarily ban and desysop Fram. The WMF Board of Trustees is aware of the situation, and discussions continue on a statement and a way forward. The Arbitration Committee has sent an open letter to the WMF Board.

- Done. However, I see a 'Real Madrid CF players' cat which I don't actually agree. Does a player who only represented the club in their youth categories deserve a cat often related to the first-team? That may also applies to Brighton's cat, and then there's another doubt: is Category:FC Barcelona youth players a valid cat? MYS77 ✉ 14:09, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
- I see. But what should happen when a player represented Real Madrid's youth setup and their C-team, for an example? Should we have the "Real Madrid CF players" and the "Real Madrid C footballers" or just the latter one? MYS77 ✉ 14:52, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
- Yep, but Messi did play for Barcelona's first team. The same applies to those players who never represented the first team? MYS77 ✉ 14:58, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

... is no country name. In articles so far, piping it was our compromise. For a singer - vs. politician - it doesn't even play a role in her biography if East of West. RE: Unsourced information
Hi. Apologies, it's not intentional. Sometimes the fast nature of updating a large number of football/soccer player articles with minor edits. I'll do my best to include edit summaries as well as source in future. Also, please don't take that overly officious and rude tone again with people you don't know who are clearly acting in good faith. I know you've had issues yourself with a Wikipedia Arbitration case, and you know seeing comments like that when you know you're not doing so maliciously can be feel a bit much. Appreciate it's frustrating though. Have you got a link to an easy to read best practice summary for updating BLP's/football articles? Thanks. UncleTupelo1 (talk) 09:09, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Ugandan expatriates in Israel
A tag has been placed on Category:Ugandan expatriates in Israel requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Lightburst
Hey GS! I couldn't help but notice your back-and-forth at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Julien Jean.
I have actually been facing a bit of blow-back from that editor, apparently most recently in retaliation for my own comment immediately above yours, and I was wondering if you'd be willing to look into it and offer any advice on what can be done? I ... really dislike ANI: I opened one thread about him calling me a basement-dweller, which was shut down with "Lightburst, don't do that anymore", to which he responded by feigning an offer of friendship, which I readily accepted; then when I filed [Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Lightburst a CCI on him], he opened an ANI thread on me, which didn't go anywhere, and almost immediately after it was closed he opened another one, which also didn't go anywhere; since then he's been intermittently harassing me with comments like this and most recently this and this.
I really don't know what to do at this point -- I was given assurances during and immediately after the third ANI thread that he would be subject to more scrutiny, but after a week or two that seems to have disappeared, he's still engaged in the same disruptive behaviour (and worse -- questioning other editors' mental states like that last diff is actually worse than anything I saw from him back in May or June), and no one seems to be doing anything about it.

Oh Balkans and its rivalries and psycho games
Hi my facourite snowman, hope you´re doing fine and enjoying the summer. Me? Well, I got divorced, went trough the horrible idea there is no eternal love even when is so genuine and real at begining even when you didn´t even believed it existed, and someone changed your mind, but unfortunatelly after alost a decade, changed it again. So, no, no eternal love. It sucks. Even worste, she moved abroad, she moved to your country, near Wales but on English side, that´s where her brother lives. She likes it a lot, but really misses two things: good food (she´s Italian) and sunny weather (she lived in Portugal with me). Before she went, I was trying to convince her not to go by scaring her saying England was full of football hooligans all around, it´s the nest of hooliganism, a real terror and so... but she says I am a bloody liar, she hardly saw any hooligan till now. I knew I was lying, Maggy irradicated almost all hooligans still in her days, but even I was disapointed that she failed to see any real hooligan in English middlands. What have you done up there? You should have kept at least some specimens as turistic atraction... or at least to scare my ex... bah... you Brits disapointed me big time. (joking, desapearance of hooligans was the ebst thing ever in Engish football).
Hey GS, listen, Republika Srpska official football team is under attack. I´ll cut the crap, the thing is, after Bosnian War ended, Dayton agreement came into place, and Bosnia and Herzegovina became a country formed by two separate entities: Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska. So, basically, non-Serbs want to see Republika Srpska erased, while Serbs, from wherever they are, see it as what it is, an entity forming Bosnia and Herzegovina. Obviously, football is where passions mostly become high, and for many non-Serbs the team of Republika Srpska becomes a target to be erased. I don´t agree with such atitudes. You know I am a Serbian editor, however, you can see how much I contributed for instance to Football in Kosovo, Kosovo national football team, their leagues, players, categories, etc. I can personally oppose Kosovo independence but I always edited constructivelly completelly ignoring my personal feelings.
With Republika Srpska, the thing is that the Bosnian FA is formed by the union of FBiH and FRS. Each one organises the half of the leagues coresponding to their part, and only the Bosnian top-league is joint. Now, the FA of RS does make calls for a sort of "national team", speacially at youth levels, which does regularelly, while at senior levels, it played few games, but has posponed organising more not to cause political upset. However, that is no reason in my view to erase the team. The team doesnt claim to be a "national team", and is one of the many regional non-FIFA existing teams. It has a coach, permanent personelle, managers for all age levels, etc. The editor who is erasing the info and proposing deletions is erasing many valid info along in what is disruptive, and is calling the main Bosnian websites "unreliable" when they come to be about something he doesn´t like (R. Srpska). I am asking you for advice and asking you tor econsider your position. We dont know what will happened in the future, now is actually a very uncertain moment, and I think we should not take sides but rather leave the reliable info we have without favoring no side. Interface administrator changes

|
- Following a request for comment, the page Wikipedia:Office actions has been changed from a policy page to an information page.
- A request for comment (permalink) is in progress regarding the administrator inactivity policy.
- Editors may now use the template {{Ds/aware}} to indicate that they are aware that discretionary sanctions are in force for a topic area, so it is unnecessary to alert them.
- Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
- The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Stay up to date by subscribing here to the NPP newsletter that appears every two months, and/or putting the reviewers' talk page on your watchlist.
Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

Just saw you took your out of office off, hope you had a nice time off! There is a content dispute in wikifootball talk page which is all political and around the Balkans. Non-breaking spaces
Hi, I saw you removed non-breaking spaces from the article Charles Lyon Chandler using a script. Please see MOS:NBSP; a non-breaking space is appropriate between a month and day, or month and year, to prevent these from inappropriately breaking across lines. Although they look a little ungainly in the source editor, they provide a benefit when someone actually reads the page. You may want to update your script to accommodate this. Adding them by script may not be wise because they could be incompatible with very narrow infobox or table lines, or be unnecessary for a date that begins a line, but at least existing ones should be retained. AfD/Jamyang Tenzin
Hi. I had forgotten about the Tier 1 part of NFOOTY, so apologies - have amended my vote. However, I'd like a little clarification: What makes it a non-Tier 1 match? I've read the FIFA regulations, their main issue is whether it's 'A' vs. 'A' along with their and a sub-confederation's authorisation (how would we prove that?). It seems strange to just take NFT's word for it. R96Skinner (talk) 16:04, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
- Are you referring to SportingFlyer's comment about Global FC? I believe, per Soccerway, they are referencing a game Tenzin played for Yeedzin in the AFC President's Cup vs. Global, a Filipino team. Tenzin's international cap came in a match between Thailand and Bhutan. R96Skinner (talk) 17:53, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Sourcing NPSL player statistic
Hey. So the NPSL are pretty dire at collating all their player statistics. They are available here [14], but you have to go in to each individual fixture and count their appearances, goals, etc. What's the best way to present this in the player article? The info is there, but not sure how it meets the required guidelines. I'd prefer the players history at the club is there over it been blank. Thanks! UncleTupelo1 (talk) 15:38, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Why couldn't you simply have stated that earlier rather than being a nuisance and disruptively reverting? You've caused a lot of aggro for no good reason. I don't care what the format is, I do care that it's consistent across the articles. GiantSnowman 15:17, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

- I stated DATERET with pretty much every single edit I made. You assumed that you were looking at the established format without investigating which was the earliest established format. I've been told multiple times consistency across articles is not a requirement, but I care about it too. Thanks for keeping it consistent. Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:21, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Why did you create this redirect (Urawa Club)? “Urawa Club” (full name is "Urawa Soccer Club" ja:浦和サッカークラブ) is a completely different club from Urawa Red Diamonds. Infoboxen
What you refer to as "standard" takes up too much space in the edit box. The version I use condenses all the info that appears on a single line in the rendered article onto a single line in the edit box, which makes it easier for n00b editors to see what goes together, and also allows editors to get to the main body of the article quicker without having to scroll through a load of lines of infobox code. The infobox documentation expresses each parameter on a separate line so that people looking for info about how to use the template can see each parameter on its own, but there's nothing wrong with condensing related lines down on to one line in an actual article. I'm not sure why you're so hung up on this. – PeeJay 18:19, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean when you say it doesn't follow the MOS. The template documentation is not an MOS, it just lists the parameters that exists in the template so people know how the template works. How we present the template in the article code is not dependent on how we present the template parameters in its documentation. Furthermore, the documentation can easily be changed. Your argument doesn't make much sense, but I still responded to it. Your refusal to engage with me really betrays your attitude as a Wikipedian, which is sorely lacking at times. – PeeJay 16:09, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
- You posted a diktat, not an attempt at discussion. Now would you like to talk about this or are we going to quibble over minutiae? – PeeJay 09:00, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- Incorrect. You've latched onto something I said and boiled it down to the conclusion you like best because it suits your argument. I said this style makes it easier for other editors to work with; if you disagree, that's fine, but you made an edit simply to revert my change, which isn't really kosher. I'm happy to work with you to find a compromise solution, but that's not going to work if you stick to your non-starter of an argument about template documentation. – PeeJay 09:22, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I don't see any middle ground, but if you'd like to offer something up, that'd be great. Otherwise, do you want to post about it more openly so others can chime in? – PeeJay 09:28, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- I'm saying I don't see what compromise could be made, but just because I don't see it doesn't mean one isn't there. Do you see anything? Because my only other suggestion would be that you learn to ignore it. – PeeJay 13:26, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

Regarding this edit, it's no longer necessary to use dmy or mdy formats in references if there's a {{Use dmy dates}} or {{Use mdy dates}} tag present. These now automatically apply the correct format to all dates in cite tags. As this is the case, it makes the most sense to use yyyy-mm-dd, since it's the least ambiguous and isn't visible to the reader. Nick Number (talk) 14:18, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

Hello! I will be undoing your latest edit regarding headings in Ashley Sanchez. Naming of Bohemian FC
Hello GS. I've previously edited the player profile for Kris Twardek of Bohemian FC. In my edit, I explained to you that the club never goes by the name Bohemian. It's either Bohemian FC or Bohemians. This is apparent in any Irish media. It's on the official website. It's on any FAI literature. Calling them just Bohemian is the equivalent of calling Aston Villa simply Aston. I am a member of the club and have 3 decades worth of attendance there. I don't know why you feel the need to say we are an encylopedia, not a branding department when all I'm doing is endeavoring to improve the page and make it more accurate. I don't know if you think I'm being petty or difficult but I assure you I have the best interests of the Wiki at heart. I myself am the main contributor to Bohemians current season page for the last couple of years. See last years here. 2019 Bohemian F.C. season.

Please read Wikipedia:CITESTYLE which covers dates in citations. Also, MOS:DATEFORMAT lists yyyy-mm-dd as an acceptable format. Thanks. --evrik (talk) 16:07, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
- You mean the page that says that the format used should be consistent across the article? So why are you reverting me at Sara Wesslin to add inconsistent styles? - Exactly. So, if you look at Template:Cite news#Date and {{use dmy dates}} or {{use mdy dates}}, by using the yyyy-mm-dd, the dates automatically formnat to the preferred format. Why did you undo my revisions of this article yesterday while I was still in the process of making corrections to try and get it into an acceptable format? As the article stands it is full of inaccuracies and omissions. It's alright writing that 'sources say 1897' but this is not a good enough reason if the particular source is wrong in what it says. I have thought for a long time that this is an article that needs an almost complete re-write. In particular - the birth year is wrong - it should be 1895; the birth place is wrong - it should be Waddington (near Clitheroe); the information about him being a professional is wrong - he was an amateur throughout his playing career; there is no mention of him playing for Fleetwood FC; there is no mention of him playing for the England Amateur International team - he made 5 appearances; there is no mention of him being picked to play for Amateurs v. Professionals in an FA Charity Shield match; etc. Of course one of the first corrections needed is that the title of the article ought to be 'James Mitchell (footballer, born 1895)'. Please let me know what authority I need for you to allow me to update the article. - Higherwiki / Talk 22:21, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

The topics are notable and I'll fix any issues if needed, it would save a considerable amount of effort from having to recreate them. Thanks, S.A. Julio (talk) 17:02, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Re this, can you explain why it's better to allow line breaks between month and day? ―Mandruss ☎ 08:57, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
I see after you reverted my edit you changed it to just the year, which is what I was going to do. I did want to point out this part of the BLP policy, specifically, "If a subject complains about our inclusion of their date of birth, or the person is borderline notable, err on the side of caution..." Your edit summary [15] implies that the fact that he is a COI editor (his conflict being that he is the article subject) means we should show him less deference when he disputes his date of birth, but BLP says otherwise when it indicates we should respect his privacy. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 14:50, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
Page move(s)
Hi there,
don't know if you agree with these names for articles, i moved "Lino Lopes" to Lino (footballer, born 1976) (ANOTHER unwarranted move by User:Ortizesp, name/nickname compound!). But we also have Lino (footballer) (that i did not alter), younger by one year, and the 1976 chap is also an international even though he played for smaller clubs.
Is this a case of (any) primary topic that warrants any of the two pages to be (re)moved? If so, please do assist and sorry for any inconvenience. Merry Christmas from Portugal, thanks in advance --Quite A Character (talk) 16:39, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hey User:Quite A Character, sorry for my mistake and thanks for the adjustment. This was from a couple months back, when I admittedly made some errors with page moves out of ignorance. My 2 cents, move Lino (footballer) to Lino (footballer, born 1977 and redirect Lino (footballer) to Lino, no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.--Ortizesp (talk) 16:46, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
- @GiantSnowman:, thanks for adjustments! ::@Ortizesp: no worries, in the future i'll gladly assist you whenever you are considering moving/asking move to be performed regarding Portuguese/Spanish footballers, come to me if you have any doubts.
Merry Xmas both, continue the good work --Quite A Character (talk) 15:06, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Hey, I thought Bueno is eligible to get a wiki page since he played a match for the first team of a professional club in a cup match. Well, guess its not enough! Thanks for giving a note about it anyway. :) Kokoeist (talk) 14:50, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
Thankyou for the reply about reliable sources. I believe that my sources are more reliable than some of the current sources referenced in this article. In particular: The GRO online index of deaths gives his birthdate as 18 November 1895. The 1939 Register also gives this birthdate. The 1911 Census gives his age as 15 (agreeing with a birth year of 1895), and gives his birthplace as Waddington, Yorkshire. The ENFA website (which includes updated information from Michael Joyce) gives a birthdate of 18 Nov 1895 and a birthplace of Waddington (Lancashire) [NOTE: Waddington was actually in Yorkshire at the time of his birth - I am a contributor to ENFA and will suggest this be corrected]. The England Football Online website also gives this same birthdate/birthplace information. The 1920-21 Lancashire Daily Post Football Handbook lists him as a Fleetwood FC player. I also have references for his England Amateur International appearances, and for his FA Charity Shield appearance. He was never a professional. As I said previously, one of the first corrections needed is that the title of the article ought to be 'James Mitchell (footballer, born 1895)'. I hope that this all sounds ok to you. Please let me know if you have any further comments (NOTE : apologies I originally updated your 2019 archive talk page, but have since undone this update). - Higherwiki / Talk 16:16, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Arnór Borg Guðjohnsen
Hi. I see that you plan to create the article on Arnór Borg Guðjohnsen as "Arnór Guðjohnsen Jr." when he becomes notable. Please reconsider. He is Icelandic and as such not a "Jr", as that's not an Icelandic phenomenon. Naming the article as such is thus unnecessary anglicization. His full name is Arnór Borg Guðjohnsen, which is enough to distinguish him from his father, who is simply named Arnór Guðjohnsen.
Please consider adding an "Icelandic name" tag at the top of the article as well and to refer to him as "Arnór" in the article, per Wikipedia:Surname. 213.220.126.120 (talk) 08:50, 24 December 2019 (UTC)

Deleted footballers
Hello, and season's greetings! I was wondering if you could help restore a few deleted articles on footballers at the previous Women's World Cup? Seems as though the pages were unfortunately created by a blocked user. However, the articles are notable, and I'd be sure to check they meet quality standards. The articles are: Stefania Tarenzi, Rosalia Pipitone, Kanjanaporn Saengkoon, Sudarat Chucheun, Saowalak Pengngam, Orapin Waenngoen, Phornphirun Philawan, Nadia Olla. Would be greatly appreciated, thanks! S.A. Julio (talk) 20:26, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

Reliable_sources Regulation Inquiry
Hi, GS! I have a question about Wikipedia:Reliable_sources. There is a newspaper article. Newspaper publishing company is notable company. So I think this article is definitely reliable source. But article was issued before 2000s. So We can't found regular article links on internet. But there is a scanned photo of article in private websites. I know wikipedia regards contents of private websites as unreliable sources. In this case, Is scanned photo of article unreliable source? So can't we use scanned photo of article links on wikipedia? I think Private website is just messenger, Essence is a scanned photo of article. I don't understand the difference between scanned photos of articles in private website and scanned photos of articles in Wayback Machine.
Anyway, I can't find detailed regulations about this issue. Please help me. Footwiks (talk) 05:27, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
On Raheem Lawal
Hi, Giant Snowman, recently you have come under the impression that i was vandalizing Raheem Lawal's page by adding 2 instead of 1 appearance for Al-Ittihad Kalba SC but if you check his profile in https://int.soccerway.com/players/raheem-r-lawal/96995/, it shows that he made two appearances for club, once against Al Wahda in the Pro League and second and last apperances against Al Wasl in the League Cup. Can you explain how am i vandalizing his page if i add this note in his page? Badass Flare (talk) 14:24, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
The article Charles Carville has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Football coach who fails GNG and NFOOTY. Never worked in Fully-pro league
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. BlameRuiner (talk) 23:52, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
Hi there. I have seen already the reference you mentioned ([16]), but what exactly does it prove? Did you check in what divisions Châteauroux and Caen played under this coach? They were amateur clubs, playing in either D3 or somewhere below that. --BlameRuiner (talk) 14:43, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice!
As you can tell, still a noob round these parts (: Solid Snack90 (talk) 15:08, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi! I was wondering if you could help me regarding this article. I've just been through the revision history and I see that the same user keeps changing the date of birth of this player. There are multiple sources placing his date of birth in 1986, including the Icelandic FA which receives a player's registered day of birth via their Icelandic social security number (date of birth + 4 extra digits) and publishes the year of birth on their website but it keeps getting edited back to 1990. Disregarding all the other sources, the guy played his first senior international in either 2003 or 2004, which seems highly unlikely for someone born in 1990. It seems to be always edited by the same user. I have an inkling about the agenda behind this but this isn't the place to discuss that. Is there any way to protect the date of birth or will it be a constant edit war? Best regards, 89.160.211.7 (talk) 00:59, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Mark Sykes
The material I added to Mark Sykes (footballer) is supported by the source. The Soccerbase external link (for all seasons) does not appear inline and is a standard feature of most footballer articles. Your revert has removed context to no benefit to the reader. Why bother?
