WP India template params
Shouldn't they be either "{{WP India|railways=yes|railways-importance=}}" or "{{WP India|railway=yes|railway-importance=}}" rather than "{{WP India|railway=yes|railways-importance=}}"?--GDibyendu (talk) 14:03, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- The parameter is not yet created. Requested Ganeshk to add them to{{WP India}} tempate. It will be only "|railways=yes|railways-importance="-- Tinu Cherian - 11:16, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
So what work do we have here?
Hello guys,
Just added my name to the project. Can someone update me on what work is to be done and what (if any) discussions have taken place? The Silent Contributor (talk) 07:31, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
- Create and populate articles for Category: Rajdhani Trains , Category: Shatabdi Trains, Category: Garib Rath Trains etc and probably use Template:Railway line legend for major routes initially. Category:Railway accidents in India is another interesting place. Srikanth (Logic) 13:18, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Notability of articles in Category:Named passenger trains of India
A number of articles in this category are two-sentence unsourced stubs about obscure trains which do not seem to fit WP's general notability guidelines. While I understand that trains like the Palace on Wheels or the Bhopal Shatabdi Express, as well as generic classes of trains, such as Rajdhani Express or Duronto Express, are notable, I seriously doubt whether examples like these - 1, 2, 3 deserve a place here. Should these be tagged and nominated for deletion? Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 05:43, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
- Just my thoughts, I feel each named train is notable just like people who say each village is notable.I feel the article needs rework, but my vote would be a weak keep though. We could add references, put the train route template, add quite a good amount of value to them. Just takes time. Srikanth (Logic) 14:35, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
- Too many stubs which are one liners, that too without any references to prove notability, I believe all stubs should redirected to the List of named passenger trains of India and text merged, before they have something substantial, merging would anyway be done in due course, by various admins themselves. Someone from this project must volunteer before it goes overboard! --Ekabhishektalk 13:34, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
- There are some trains which do not have a name(Eg: Bhopal express,Bangalore express)but they have been included in the cateogory of Named passenger trains of India. Can another cateogory namely other express/mails of India be created and include these in that. Let onyl trains having names like lal bagh, brindavan etc be included under the current head.

Some problems with sourcing & notability of rail services in India
Hi all,
I've found some possible problems with a large number of articles on train services in India. Some could be fixable, but many are so short on notability/sources that deletion may be the best option. There's a a thread over at WikiProject Trains' talkpage; suggestions from this community would be very welcome. What do you think is the best way to deal with, say, many of the articles in Category:Superfast trains? bobrayner (talk) 03:31, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Adding about new unannounced trains
With reference to the edits at Thoothukudi railway station and Aruppukkottai railway station, i was removing some contents like "Demand for new trains, Extension of trains, etc.," on the basis of WP:NOTTIMETABLE, WP:NOTGUIDE and WP:CRYSTAL. These kind of information is present in quite a lot of articles related to transport of India, since almost everycity/town has its own demand of introduction of new trains or construction of new lines, these are either speculative and unconfirmed. Those demands may or may not happen or even keep lingering for a indefinite period of time. But still the edits were happening either by reversion or adding afresh. Hence a concrete decision can be made on adding such informations in future. --βα£α(ᶀᶅᶖᵵᵶ) 10:43, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
Resources for Articles for Indian Railways
Most articles regarding Indian Railways quotes http://indiarailinfo.com/; http://erail.in/ and http://www.irfca.org as source. Though by far it may be accepted for map or creating route diagrams, but distance between any two railway stations or a length of a railway line largely differs with the Official website. Also the website is mostly with user generated content. So is the case of Indian Railways Fan Club (Indian Railways Fan Club), most of the web pages are have contents user-generated and casting doubts over verifiability and reliability, since they are neither accurate (to the most) nor updated. --βα£α(ᶀᶅᶖᵵᵶ) 02:38, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Broad gauge map of Indian railways with double or more line
I was looking for a broad gauge map of Indian railways depicting only double or more lines. I could not find such a map on net, the map on net lists all kind of lines as well as single and double or more tracks but I want to filter out single lines or non-broad gauge lines from the map. I want to check what all heavy traffic rail lines of Indian railways have at least double tracks. Thanks. IndianGeneralist 15:03, 28 April 2014 (UTC).

Leaflet for Wikiproject Indian Railways at Wikimania 2014
Hi all,
My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.
One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.
This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:
• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film
• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.
• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.
• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____
• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost
The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014
For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

- While writing train numbers, we can mention which division the train belongs too. this will help people to know whom to approach for complaints
For example 11013 LTT-CBE Express belongs to CR, 22629 DR-TEN Belongs to SR, etc. This can be used for sorting trains easily.

Loco Sheds
Hi all, There seems to be a serious dearth of information on locomotive sheds in India on Wikipedia It would be great if we could add details of all existing loco sheds in India to Wikipedia, both diesel and electric. I have created a page for the Ernakulam Diesel Loco Shed to start with.
However, I would also like to add an infobox on all the loco sheds with along with standard details, details on the livery of the locos owned by the shed in a separate section. I tried my hand at creating one, but could not make head or tail of the technicalities as I am very new to this entire thing. Could anyone here guide me on how to create infoboxes?

Criteria for notability in rail accidents
Hi all, The article List of Indian rail accidents needs some improvement. There is a thread in its talk page, but there has been a lack of editors for a concensus. The main issue is the criteria for a train accident to be called notable on the list. It would be great if editors pitch in with their opinions. Vignyanatalk 08:34, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 10:58, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
A new newsletter directory is out!
A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

WAG-12 issue.
Hallo Everyone I am discussing about the data of total wag-12 commissioned by IR. A fellow wikipedian name Rohan paul 999 (talk) is changing the data of total locomotives commissioned by IR without giving any proper source or reference and I have once previously reverted his unsourced data but he has put it back again today and also he has written in my talk page that I shouldn't revert it without proper sourced data. So, I am asking everyone to give their opinion that should I revert his unsourced data or not.Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 14:51, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yea. It's advisable that you revert his edits and alert him on his talk page that un-sourced content will be removed. Especially statistics like numbers built. Searching through the web, I didn't find any sources stating how many of them have been manufactured, although if we go by the road number, one might say that around 25 have been rolled out. However, that will be classified as original research which hold no value on Wikipedia. --Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 18:01, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
@Field Marshal Aryan:Yes bro you are correct I have also search many times in the web that exactly how many wag12 locomotives manufactured till now but I too haven't found any data. I have reverted his unsourced data once a few days ago and after I see that today he has put that data back again I have immediately warned him in his talk page after he has instructed me that not to change the data without proper Source in my talk page. So, I am telling you that this time if you revert his unsourced data and warned him about it then it will be better. After you revert that I will keep an eye on it that if he is putting that data back again or not. Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 20:04, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
- Alright, but whatever happens, don't break the 3 revert rule. Even if you are objectively right. --Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 20:31, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
@Field Marshal Aryan:Yes I know that no problem go ahead. Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 22:04, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Requested move 2 June 2020
- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was:
- Indian Railways WCAM class → Indian locomotive series WCAM
- Indian Railways WAG class → Indian locomotive series WAG
(non-admin closure) Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 10:14, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- Indian Railways WAG class → Electric locomotives of Indian Railways or AC electric locomotives of Indian Railways
- Indian Railways WCAM class → Electric locomotives of Indian Railways
– no need for every series like WAP, WAG to have its own article since information on those pages is just shortened versions of the info on the loco class article. Having all electrics in one place and diesels in one will ensure that new learners can get info from few pages instead of having to scurry multiple pages. Additional info about a specific class can always be found at the dedicated article page for the loco. I would appreciate your views below. - I am 100% agree with arnab saha that separate or dedicated articles of every locomotives should be there. Those are shouldn't be merged and put it into series. Individual locomotive articles should elaborated with properly sourced informations. Apart from few series like ndm, zdm and wcp series which should be considered to be put into series form ,rest of the locomotive series are not needed. Instead linking those separate or dedicated locomotive articles with locomotives of India article then any one can easily find the details of every individual locomotives by just clicking on the name of the locomotives in that article.Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 17:00, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hey, @Suvadeep Saha56: I too am not saying that we need to merge the individual articles about each locomotive. They should saty, indeed. I was talking about merging the articles that list these series like WCAM and WAG, into one article like Electric locomotives of Indian Railways or maybe, as per discussion here, change name to something similar or more suitable. -- Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 06:30, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Field Marshal Aryan: Look Aryan in my opinion locomotive series articles are not needed because if you see the locomotives of India article there is a list of every locomotives that Indian Railway used till now and if you link that list with the dedicated locomotive articles then anyone can easily find the individual loco details. But if you think that combining the loco series articles and make it into one will be better then its upto you. If you think that merging those series articles and make it into one is a good idea then you can do that from my point of view but without disturbing the individual loco articles.Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 07:05, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support: The Locomotives of India article is enough for all locomotives. Individual locomotive class have/can have their own article, for eg. Indian locomotive class WAP-7. So support merging into Locomotives of India. If consensus doesn't arise, in case of merge, then rename could be done as per standard in Category:Electric locomotives of India. So Indian Railways WAG class should be renamed to Indian locomotive class WAG, Indian Railways WCAM class to Indian locomotive class WCAM and so on. -- Vatsmaxed (signature added later by Field Marshal Aryan)
- @Vatsmaxed:I say it should be Indian locomotive series WCAM because:
- We are already using 'Indian locomotive class xyz' for specific locomotives and
- WCAM, WAG etc isn't a class, it's a series of classes.

This is a gentle notice for everyone that Indian locomotive class WDG-4G has been GA nominated. I hope it goes through. If someone has not contributed significantly to that article they may wish to start the review at its talk page. Thanks, Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 19:17, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Need for Technical specifications of WAG-9
Hey guys, I am currently trying to improve the WAG-9 class to GA status. While going through the page, I noticed that the Technical specifications section is too long. Since most of importance tech specs are in the infobox, Should we remove the section--Area 51 Machan (talk) 12:10, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
- Area 51 Machan, I love that we all are trying to make GA articles because our project badly needs them. Indian Railways was a FA but then got demoted, the only GAs we have are Delhi Metro, Fairy Queen and WDG4G. Coming back to your question, yea the tabled part is too big: that info can be kept in the infobox while the Technical section must contain prose mostly. Good luck with your endeavor. Regards, Field Marshal (talk) 13:33, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Coordinators required
I think this WikiProject could benefit from coordinators who would help in the maintenance and upkeep of the wikiproject along with providing assistance to the members. At any given time, there should be a maximum of two coordinators. This will also, in a way, ensure that the project doesn't go dead like it was previously. Interested editors may enlist their names below and we can conduct a voting process. Note: This is starting out as a test; If enough people oppose having any coordinators at all, this whole thing will be scrapped. Pinging ArnabSaha as it is mainly his idea. Notability of Individual Passenger Train Articles
Hello fellow editors ! I have a doubt regarding inclusion of individual articles on normal passenger trains (which are ~ 15,000 in India). For example articles like Indore–Ajmer_Link_Express, Rajendra_Nagar_Patna–Indore_Express. These both examples are completely normal trains, which clear fails WP:GNG and their is no other subject specific guidelines for trains (that I am able to find). Most of these articles (that I have gone through) are unsourced or poorly sourced stubs. I believe that these articles should not be included on English Wikipedia, this may also be a case of WP:NOTTRAVEL. Can someone provide their views about it and what is the general consensus regarding it ? Thanks. Zoodino (talk) 15:50, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Zoodino. We don't get a lot of visitors here! Unfortunately I won't be able to respond fully right now as I'm about to go to sleep (IST). I would try to answer that question in my full capacity tomorrow. Until then, I would suggest you to have a look at this discussion that took place over here over a decade ago. Warm regards, Field Marshal (talk) 19:24, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Field Marshal Aryan: Thanks for guiding me to the archived discussion. But the discussion seems to be inadequate. The number of participants are very less. The statements such as "I feel each named train is notable just like people who say each village is notable", seems to be the editor's personal opinion without any backing from any of Wikipedia's notability policy. Their is also no clear result of the discussion.
- Can we have a general discussion again (here only, just inputs from other editors) on the topic (if possible), so we can reach a general consensus whether such articles should be created or not. Zoodino (talk) 11:06, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Zoodino: Yep. The old discussion was pretty much inconclusive. We surely can, and seeing the huge mess this subject is, must have a discussion, even though not many are active here. I am pinging a few editors I know who can help (Vatsmaxed, ArnabSaha, Area 51 Machan, User:Naveenpf.
- Some the named trains should stay like Lucknow Mail or the Gujarat Mail or even the legendary Deccan Queen while the slower passengers and MEMUs, as you said, are certainly not notable at all. The category that is the most problematic is Slow and fast passenger trains in India whereas some (actually, a lot) cleanup will be needed in Express trains in India. I will wait for more opinions now. Pinging the active editors of the old discussion: Logicwiki, Ekabhishek. To the people I pinged, sorry for disturbing: You have no obligation to participate if you are not willing. Thanks, Field Marshal (talk) 15:10, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Field Marshal Aryan: Thanks for being interested in the discussion and pinging other editors. As mentioned already by you, these stub articles seems to be mess. Cleaning up these articles will surely improve the project quality and unnecessary backlog. Waiting for more opinions. Zoodino (talk) 04:38, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

- Zoodino, I agree. Articles like these aren't required. Also we need to asses them individually. ❯❯❯ S A H A 07:31, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
I don't think you can develop an agreed standard for individual trains beyond the GNG. In Europe and the Americas named passenger trains generally meet that standard with ease, but we don't have articles on unnamed services between cities. I'm not familiar with sources for Indian railways so I can't speak to what the coverage looks like. Mackensen (talk) 19:48, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
Narrow-gauge locomotives of India
This article should be restored back to it's original name and data.It is a dedicated article of this 2 series narrow gauge diesel locomotives of Indian railways because there are not much information to make dedicated article of this 2 series locomotives. That is why this 2 series locomotives data have been combined together to make one article. There is no need of making article of narrow gauge locomotives of India. Narrow gauge locomotives are already added in 2 articles Locomotives of India and List of diesel locomotives of India. Steam and battery power locomotives of Indian railways will added in 2 separate articles. I think you will understood my point and restored the article back to its original name and data.Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 12:04, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
I agree that there is not sufficient information available to create a dedicated articles of each of this "ZDM and NDM" locomotives. But that could not be reason for creating a special article for these 2 only. Even less information is available for narrow gauge battery and even for narrow gauge steam not much info is available, say for eg of BLR (Barsi light railways) locos. Regarding the "There is no need of making article of narrow gauge locomotives of India", the same can be said for ZDM and NDM too, they could be a part of Locomotives of India and List of diesel locomotives of India too, which they already are. Strictly speaking, we should have had, only Locomotives of India article and the individual loco articles. But in recent past, intermediate articles, such as List of diesel locomotives of India and List of electric locomotives of India etc were created. Considering all these, I preferred to rename the article to current as kind of compromise. Hope you understand, if you still dis-agree, then you can always continue this discussion on wikiproject talk page, let consensus decide over there. Vatsmaxed (talk) 12:33, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
- I think that you should discuss about it first before you move this page. No, it is not same because there is no dedicated article for this two series locomotives. It's better to restore the page back to its original name because it is a dedicated article of that 2 series narrow gauge diesel locomotives of Indian railway. Battery power and steam power locomotives of Indian railway should have separate articles like List of diesel locomotives of India and List of electric locomotives of India. If you want you can create separate article for narrow gauge battery and steam locomotives of India but restore the original article. I think its better if you should restore the article back to it's original structure and open a discussion in Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian railways and based on the discussion there you should change the name.Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 12:59, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
- Suvadeep Saha56, I agree with Vatsmaxed here. The previous title would not have been able to accommodate the battery and steam based narrow gauge locomotives which don't have enough data to be warranted a separate article. The current title seems apt as we are not limited to two locomotive classes which anyways fall under the current title category. Also, yea, the discussion should be shifted to WikiProject Indian railways for greater visibility. Regards, Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 14:04, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
Moved the discussion here from my talk page. Better this stays here so it is easier to find in future. Vatsmaxed (talk) 14:11, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
Line type articles
Hi, difference between section type and main line type articles is pretty clear. Are there any differences between main line type articles and line type articles. Should they be standardized into one type? → Timbaaatalk 09:59, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- Pinging some of the recent editors here:@ArnabSaha, Vatsmaxed, Field Marshal, and Zoodino: → Timbaaa talk 02:10, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Timbaaa, line type articles consist of mainlines and branch lines. now, it depends on various thing and article to article, whether standardisation is required or not. I will put my final opinion after checking some more articles. ❯❯❯ S A H A 09:58, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
Coming in late as I just saw this today. Commenting on this as I usually tend to work on the route maps of IR (mostly focusing eastern part as of now) and recently have began focusing on their associated articles. Here are some rules that I kinda grasped intuitively when I first started and now I usually follow when making and creating these articles:- 1.) If it is a main line, the suffix should be main line. Example: Howrah–Delhi main line / Ahmedabad–Mumbai main line etc
- 2.) If it is a chord line, the suffix should be chord or chord line. Example: Grand Chord / Rewari–Phulera chord line etc
- 3.) If it is a major branch line connecting major junction points in between, the suffix should be line. Example: Sealdah–Ranaghat–Gede line, Barkakana–Son Nagar line etc
- 4.) If it is a minor branch line, usually with no major junction points in between, the suffix should be branch line. Example: Andal–Sainthia branch line,
- 5.) If it is a loop line, the suffix should be loop or loop line. Example: Sahibganj Loop, Andal–Sitarampur loop line, etc
- 6.) If it is a set of lines with no clear distinction of which line is the main/major line or not, the suffix should be section. Example: Sealdah South section, Sealdah Main and North section, etc
- 7.) If it is a section of a major line/main line that is required to be defined separately due to size, the suffix should be section. Example: Asansol–Patna section, Kazipet–Vijayawada section
- Hope this helps. I strongly believe we should have a documented standard somewhere in Wikipedia about line articles and routemaps related to Indian railways, so please do include me in discussions related to these. I have created some standards of my own while designing routemaps and line articles (my contrib page is here btw :)) which I can put up for discussion in a separate section if you guys are willing to discuss it. Tagging @Chandan Guha: and @Feroze Ahmad 2: as they are frequent and experienced contributors. Regards, GoldenDragon2293Return (talk) 13:59, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
