"Default sort"

I am sure you mean well, but changing the sort order for names of kings and princes and such people normally known by their full given name makes no sense. As I had put Adolf Frederick of Sweden on my "watchlist" a couple of weeks ago, I happened to notice your changing the sort order to "Frederick, Adolf" (which makes as much sense as sorting George W. Bush as "W., George Bush"), and I also undid another couple of similar edits of yours, but I don't particularly feel like going through your contributions systematically. Please backtrack your edits and undo them yourself in applicable cases. Olaus 10:42, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

P.S. I am sorry if I came through as patronizing above. When doing a lot of minor and mostly very useful edits, as you obviously do, it is probably easy to stumble into something unfamiliar and make a mistake. It's no problem, I'm happy to discuss it. I did look for a policy or guide on this specific point of names mixed with titles but didn't see anything, please let me know if you're aware of some documentation on this topic. George W. Bush has default sort set to "Bush, George W.", rather than "George W. Bush President of the United States". One the other hand, Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom has nothing set, so reverts to the title (as opposed to Windsor, Elizabeth). Thanks for pointing it out, this looks to be the precedent for royalty, so I'll leave the names with titles as they are.XLerate 11:35, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Nice to hear that you are a loyal member on wikipedia but unfortunatly your edits on Kasautii Zindagii Kay are identified as vandalism but sadly they can't be reverted. The edits after mine deleted large portions of the article. I spent several hours improving the article, ran it through spelling and grammar checking, you can see this here. I have reverted the article to the edit I did, it looks ok now. There were some small edits afterwards, I'll take a look and see if some additional repairs are needed. There are 2 topics regarding this edit. Firstly I deleted an internal link duplicated in the preceeding sentence. It's really not necessary to repeat the same link in such close promixity, please see WP:MOS-L. Secondly I removed the stub tag, I feel it is start class already from 2 criteria - "multiple links that help explain or illustrate the topic", and "multiple subheadings that indicate material that could be added to complete the article". Please see here for the assessment guideline I use. I feel the repeated link really needs to go, the stub tag is more subjective, if you want to leave it on I suggest putting a more specific one, like company stub. XLerate 04:47, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

New Plymouth weather info box

NZ State Highways

I see you've been improving the State Highway 8 (New Zealand) article I started the other day! I've just made a start on State Highway 7 (New Zealand) - you might like to have a look at that one too (I'm hoping to make a start on articles for Highways 2 to 6 during the next week or two). University of Auckland

Hi,

I see that you are making bot-assisted changes of "Auckland University" to "University of Auckland". I would suggest that in any article which says "X graduated from y in (year) z", then y should be whatever the institution was called at that time.

So for someone pre-1950* you might say "Auckland University College (now University of Auckland)" and for the time prior to the latest name change**, I'd use [[University of Auckland|Auckkland University]].

  • I can't remember the exact year the U of NZ was split up into 7 universities - it was some time between 1950 and 1957)
    • When was the name change? I can't find a press release.

Hi dramatic, I've gone through and categorised all the faculty and alumni, where the article conclusively stated "was a lecturer" or "graduated from". Incidentally I was also replacing the colloquial "Auckland University" with the actual title "University of Auckland" (especially as there is the Auckland University of Technology). I was aware Auckland split along with the others from the University of New Zealand (in 1961 according to the article), I'm not aware it was called "Auckland University" during it's history. "Auckland University College" I left alone, I was only replacing [[Auckland University]] and [[University of Auckland|Auckland University]] with [[University of Auckland]]. If I've mucked it up somewhere or used the wrong title, please let me know and I can take a look at repairing it. Otago, Waikato and now Auckland have been categorised (over 200 more alumni & faculty in the respective categories), I plan to do the remaining NZ universities in the next few days. Perhaps there need to be categories for University of NZ alumni & faculty, for pre-1961 graduates & staff, what do you think? XLerate (talk) 04:00, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

National Library Sketchup image

Hi, I think I must have got confused about the National Library SketchUp image: the author had released it under a creative commons licnese here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/53752777@N00/971357387/, but I assume your argument is that he does not have the right to do that as the image was taken in Google Earth where any image is owned by Google. Does this mean that the model without the background (hypothetically) would be okay (eg outisde of Google Earth)?

B class

Thanks for the feedback on B-class articles. I've put my effort in the last 24 hours into adding references and/or content to Māori, History of Air New Zealand, and Blenheim, New Zealand - all tagged by at least one project as B-class - and I'm very happy that my temporary downgrade of Dunedin has resulted in an improvement to that article.

The assessment of articles is rather inconsistent, and sometimes I think we're too hard on articles, but when an article seems to be accumulating tags without editors making an effort to clean them up, then something has to be done.-gadfium 09:36, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Certainly it was overdue for some attention, especially being top importance to WPNZ, thanks for going to the trouble of point it out. I think the assessment can be somewhat subjective, may differ significantly between editors. XLerate (talk) 03:18, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I have generated a knowledge evolution map to denote your knowledge activities in Wikipedia according to your inputs including the creation and modification of contents in Wikipedia, and I need you to validate whether the generated knowledge evolution map matches the knowledge that you perceive you own it. I, of course, agree with the result of your changes. But there are only a couple of million of you, 20 million of us, 50(?) million Poms, but at least a couple of Hundred million of them. I expect that one of them will object and change it; I hope I'm wrong.
So I hope that helps you realise that the following is not criticism - just "academic" interest:

  • Why did you merge the two pages?
  • Did you notice that I had split the page?
  • If so, did you give any thought as to why I split the page?
  • What do you plan to do if/when one of our (yes, not your,) trans-Pacific bretheren decides that we are yet another minority that don't count?

I looked to the talk pages but missed the history. It doesn't bother me if the U.S. spelling redirects to the British or vice-versa, the related pages such as Ministry of Defence, Defence Minister, categories, all use the British spelling. Two dab pages for the same topic isn't sensible to me, the reader arriving at the dab page is looking for a specific DoD and could well have used their local spelling of defence. Per MOS:DAB the idea of a dab page is to make it as easy and straightforward as possible to locate the specific article, looking through the list for the desired country, not finding it, going to see also, next dab page, then the target isn't as good as having all six entries in the one place.
