Ireland naming dispute compromise proposal

[edit]

You may be interested in an all-encompassing compromise proposal tabled in respect of the Ireland naming dispute at http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style_(Ireland-related_articles)/Ireland_disambiguation_task_force#Appeal_for_an_all-encompassing_solution Mooretwin (talk) 13:05, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With reservations, I've declined the speedy deletion tag you placed at José-María Siles. The article has improved since its previously deleted copy and it now appears much more encyclopedic. I would have no objection to this returning to AfD, however. I would also not have any objections to your asking another administrator to review this decision and possibly overturn it. Sinn Féin

[edit]

Could you assist on this page. Domer48 is trying (and succeeding) to censor the reference to Provisional SF in the lead. I can't see how any reasonable person could object to this being referenced in the lead - it is important and notable. Mooretwin (talk) 19:54, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Eva Amador Guillén

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Eva Amador Guillén requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. BNP results - again

Thanks for your comments in the debate to overturn the BNP election results page. I recreated it and now find it has been nominated, on extremely spurious ground, for deletion again!! Ministers vs. councillors

[edit]

Hi Valenciano, I'm afraid that you've completely right :-) Not being a native speaker, the term "minister" was "strange" since I naturally translated it as "ministro". However, looking for instance to the Northern Ireland Government it can be seen that the term minister is used to describe to the equivalents of Spanish "consejeros". I'll undo my edition. Best regards and thank you --Ecemaml (talk) 10:06, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - the new article is similar to the old one, although not a word-for-word recreation. It covers the same areas, but has some additional information. Warofdreams talk 16:23, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nerja

[edit]

Hello Valenciano, this is the second time i've added a link i find interesting on the external links section on the Nerja page and much more complete than some of the others. It is also the second time i've seen it removed as SPAM by you. Please let me know why do you consider it spam. Regards. Nstiac (talk) 14:21, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The whole site is not clear cut dedicated to promote properties, indeed the site contains one section which exist to make money from the readers, yet, it also has four more informational sections. Seems to me based on percentage, the purpose of the site itself is informational. DMOZ has listed the site under Malaga: Guides & Directories section. Asides the link in question is not to this one but actually this one whose main objective is to provide article related information. The fact that the linked page has itself links to other sections dedicated to make money should'nt be an indicative for spam, as most sites do have this sort of links or advertisements (unless they were in an objectionable amount). In this specific case, the actual "web page" beeing linked: actually this one does not in any way "mostly promote or advertise" anything, just provides the reader with interestingly enough information related to the article not to be found on one single web page elsewhere. Quicker categorising

[edit]

Just remembered you asked me this a while ago - sorry for the late reply. Did you find a quicker way of categorising? My only thought is that perhaps WP:AutoWikiBrowser or a similar piece of software could help speed things up. Warofdreams talk 23:22, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can't move categories either - it needs deleting, the new category recreating, and all the articles recategorising. A bot can help speed this up. I've put in a request at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy, as I believe that when it is closed, someone will do all this. Warofdreams talk 11:32, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: 1983 renamings

[edit]

Thanks for the little bit of info on the renamings in 1983! News to me. I'm trying to keep on top of the UK constituency articles, though there is fewer editors than there used to be! Hope I can be of some help perhaps in the future doktorb wordsdeeds 14:18, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. Until the election is called I think any renaming seems to be best left undone. It's just so when it happens we can move all the articles in one swoop rather than being caught up in debates about whether one or all should move. I am dreading working out if it's best leaving all the current internal links as "next United Kingdom general election" when the time comes. On the older Boundary Commission report I'd love to get hold of a copy; when I have the time I'll send off a few emails around, see if it can be found through other means. Here's to a few months of busy editing! doktorb wordsdeeds 08:10, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hola Valenciano, I was going to work on merging the four articles you AFD'd. I was going to change the "Membership of the Loughgall Unit" into prose rather than a list, and merge the content there. How much do you think should be merged? For example I would propose:

Declan Arthurs was a volunteer from the townland of Galbally in Tyrone, who became involved in the republican movement after attending the funeral of hunger striker Martin Hurson. Prior to the Loughgall ambush, Arthurs had been interned on three occassions.

What do you think? Stu ’Bout ye! 14:11, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you as I'm a bit busy in real life these days. Yes converting it to prose would be absolutely fine. Valenciano (talk) 14:41, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Zapatero editing

[edit]

Hey! About the Zapatero edit i made last night, well, this is not the first time that I try to cut off a lot of information that isn't relevant or useful and even may result boring for a reader (it results boring for me, even while i'm spanish). I tried to make the article useful, comfortable to read and USEFUL. I really don't understand why the rest of wikipedians refuse to cut off all that information that just is off-topic or deserves a whole article by itself, apart from the horrible grammar and writing of such article (said while i'm not the best at speaking english). Well, I think at least, the introduction i write last night, which is a little summary of the main events since Zapatero is the Prime Minister, should remain in the article so the poor reader doesn't need to die reading that HUGE, plenty of absurd facts, article if wanted to know about our president.

'Republic of Ireland' on EU page

[edit]

Hi there Valenciano, a debate is currently in progress on the EU talk page concerning the use of either ‘Republic of Ireland’ or ‘Ireland’ to identify the state. As the page is clearly political and involves both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, I am arguing for ‘Republic of Ireland’ for reasons of clarity and common sense. However, all my arguments are falling on intransigently deaf ears. Perhaps you would care to take a look? The Spoorne (talk) 20:41, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Binna Burra

[edit]

Please don't remove the external link to the Binna Burra website. The article is about a tourist attraction which is a place where people stay in lodges and tents. It is not spam as it is the official website for the topic of the article. I am famiilar with the area and have often removed spammy external links other articles around Australia. Please trust my judgement about this. I'm not as concerned with your removal to the uncreated O'Reilly's Guesthouse, however when the article is created it would appropriate to link to that for the same reason mentioned above. These two mountain resorts are notable, long term establishments and well-known destinations for those wanting to explore Lamington National Park. - Shiftchange (talk) 12:04, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Electoral wards of Belfast

[edit]

I think the merger is a good plan. The other approach is to use the wards articles as an incubator for articles on the various city suburbs, as with the wards of Sheffield, but as wards in Northern Ireland are so little used, it would seem odd to consider them important subdivisions of Belfast. [edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
