Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Tygrpaw33. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page James M. Mannas, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. S0091 (talk) 14:57, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hello there,
- I don't have any relation to James M. Mannas other than having conducted extensive research on the Kamoinge Workshop stemming from personal intrigue. I noticed his biography was underdeveloped compared to other Black photographers of his generation, and I decided to scope out his biography on Wikipedia, which includes citations to such information. Most of which can be found in printed media or websites. Based on this information, I hope you can reconsider this block on my account so I may continue to add necessary and factual information to any person's biography if it's missing. Additionally, what will it take to edit a person's biography without the suspension of conflict of interest? Especially when most of the information is traceable to a verifiable source. While making these edits, I reviewed other Wikipedia pages, most of which include sources amongst paragraphs of freely written sentences. With this in mind, what are some things about my recent edit that strike the Wikipedia board as odd or oppositional? Tygrpaw33 (talk) 16:50, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Tygrpaw33, you are not blocked and this is just a notice/guidance in case you do you have a COI. If you don't, carry on. I can't recall at this point the reason I left the note but I suspect it was because this is the only topic area you have edited and you triggered several edit filters (http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Special:AbuseLog&wpSearchUser=Tygrpaw33). I will leave you some additional information about editing Wikipedia. S0091 (talk) 17:21, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for this note! I'm new to editing on Wikipedia, so maybe that's why I made some editing mistakes. However, I'm happy to review the information you shared about editing to amend my initial edits and prevent future mistakes. Please be advised my edits may take shape from now to September. - Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
- It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
- If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
- Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
- When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
- If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
- Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.
Happy editing! Cheers, S0091 (talk) 17:21, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
