Thanks. I would have replaced "cleaned up" with "damaged". Although most of the other AutoFormat "errors" probably should be "corrected", the majority of the characters changed by your edit were correct. If you were to re-use AutoFormat with "unlink dates" turned off, it would be a net benefit. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 19:12, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Problem with opening images

Is there any maintenance work going on? There is a problem opening images on Wikipedia. I nominated File:DAINESE Organization Logo.png for Speedy Deletion Criterion F2 but it sounds like all images are corrupt. Pkbwcgs (talk) 16:05, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

@Primefac: I have recently upgraded to a new browser but this is only happening on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons and nowhere else. It throws up this error when opening File:Farewell to 442402 Beckenham Junction to London Victoria 1Z43 approaching Beckenham Road station (32556548674).jpg:

That still sounds like it's a client-side issue. Have you tried a different browser and/or rolled back the update? Could also be a cache issue. Primefac (talk) 18:01, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

@Primefac: Not just the images problem but I don't like the recent new change where if I click a red link, it won't show the deletion and editing is tougher and confusing because as I click on edit source to edit an page, it is highlighting all the WikiMarkup and putting some confusing buttons on top. Not only this, I can't preview or review my changes and the save changes button went to the top instead of the bottom. Everything is so confusing about editing now. What is the best way to disable all these changes? Wikipedia editing became more of a havoc than before. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:41, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

Well, from that description it sounds like you have a bunch of gadgets enabled and they're either competing with each other or not completely working. Try disabling some of the beta/gadget options and see if that helps? Primefac (talk) 14:33, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Visual Editing

Among the preferences you'll find a drop-down menu labeled "Editing mode". You can set it to either "Show me both editor tabs" or "Always give me the source editor". Huon (talk) 11:03, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Dispute

I having a big dispute over 78.55.74.227 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) and I am starting to become fed up. The IP has been blocked for block evasion. That said, you may want to take a look at WP:NOTVANDAL; while Tobias Conradi shouldn't be editing and may be reverted on sight, these particular edits were not vandalism. Huon (talk) 22:05, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

E-commerce is not a company. It is a business methodology. It is possible to be overly positive about the technology and to fail to write neutrally about it (which this user did), but I don't think that falls under Wikipedia's spam guidelines. Shipwreck lists

I've reverted your deletions of valid wikilinks from various shipwreck lists. I would guess that you found these through Special:LongPages. There are hundreds of shipwreck lists and all are similarly linked. Your edits meant that these four lists were out of synch with the rest. Counties and oceans are valid links. "Harmonize whitespace"

Please desist in "Harmonize whitespace" script. It's a massive dummy edit that fills change logs and diff compares for other editors, with zero benefit to the reader. If done with part of a larger edit involving most of an article's citation templates, fine, but as a stand-alone it is just annoying, and looks like something done just to boost edit counts. @A D Monroe III: The intention of this tool is not to boost edit counts. It is used to cleanup the citation mess it articles in order for it not to be confusing in the future. Secondly, I am only performing this cleanup on the long pages with frequent checks to citation templates to make sure it is in order and not confusing for other editors in the future. I see no "mess" it cleans up, just an imposition of a very minor personal style preference, which I (for one) actually do not prefer, scattered everywhere throughout long articles. Again, it's making work for other editors looking at logs and diffs, without any realized benefit. @A D Monroe III: The tool I am using at the moment for the Harmonize whitespace is Tidy Citations and it has been designed by @Meteor sandwich yum:. It is used to format citations correctly. I don't understand what problems it is creating. It is similar to a disk cleanup on your PC. It also trying to save space in citations so that the article will be easier to edit when editing the source. The source for this tool is at User:Meteor sandwich yum/Tidy citations.js. It is one of the user scripts I have chose to use to cleanup citations and it has been suggested at Wikipedia:User scripts/List. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:45, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

What it does is help hide vandalism. Say I'm reviewing an article with a 10 or 20 edits since the last time I checked it, and one of them is this script, what do I do? Either I spend several extra minutes going through all the through several dozen pages of diff throughout the whole article, or I skip checking for any vandalism because I can't spend that much time on just one article, and just hope that whatever sneaky vandalism I may have skipped wasn't too bad. So I go on to next article on my watchlist, and guest what? Same thing again! Using the script like this hurts WP, and does no good for anyone. I'm sure there's better things for both of us to do. First, are you checking for the tool on a disambiguation page? (I know that sounds like an obvious step, but it never hurts to ask.) Check Kári Árnason (disambiguation), you should see "Disambiguate links to primary topic" and "Disambiguate links to DAB" on the "More" tab. If they are not there, you can try logging out, closing the browser and re-opening it and logging back in to ensure the browser cache is cleared. Hope this helps. Rollback

I am simply fed up of patrolling because whenever I come to an edit, somebody has already rollbacked it and Twinkle is extremely slow today that I can't believe the amount of frustration I am in when I miss out an edit when I try to revert something. I have installed all the tools that autoconfirmed users can use for rollback and it is still too slow to rollback an edit. Please help me out. What is the best tactics for rollback? Unfortunately, I don't think I will be assigned rollback permissions yet as it is too early and when I first came to Wikipedia in 2016, I had a long pattern of disruptive editing last year even though it has stopped now. If Huggle users are "beating you to the edits", that is a Good Thing^TM. It means the tool is working and vandalizers aren't getting the attention they want because their bad edits are live for a very short period. This is the only outcome that matters for counter-vandalism. Most vandalism and counter-vandalism takes place during the late morning to mid-evening for the UK and US, say, 1000UTC - 2100UTC. That leaves a lot of the day uncovered where you may be able to help more. Also, we don't all have to revert vandalism to be helpful or provide value here.
