@Jimfbleak: Hey! Looking for more info on how my edits and pages were spammy. I have a deep interest in Ellroy, but am not associated with him or his publisher. I am willing to adjust the Widespread Panic article and the draft for the Enchanters if the language used was the issue. Just looking to understand how my actions were read as being advertisements as I felt I made a good faith effort to keep to a neutral style. OhMyVisage (talk) 20:23, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Since your edits have been almost all about Ellroy, I think you can see why I perceived a likely COI, and I'm unclear what I just wanted to use my knowledge and sources collected means. Please read the guidance below:

  • When you write about a book, you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the author or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.
  • Many of your sources are not independent third-party sources, but are interviews with him, podcasts, YouTube etc. What he says about himself doesn't make him notable.
  • Ellroy himself is probably notable, but that doesn't mean that his books are independently notable. You have nothing about awards, sales charts etc, and if the book isn't independently notable it should be a redirect to his article
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • I've seen worse, but we have basically him talking about his book with no obvious independent evidence of notability as linked above, a plot summmary and a bunch of reviews. What people think of the book isn't a criterion for notability and Critical reaction to Widespread Panic was positive, with critics often praising the entertainment value of the novel. looks spammy.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Not reasons for deletion, but the title should have (Ellroy novel), "novel" isn't a proper noun, similarly "Plot summary", not Summary. Publications should be italicised, Widespread Panic (Ellroy Novel), Confidential, Rebel Without a Cause. Also its pacing not its pacing. Please reply here, rather than by email, and we can see if there is a way forward Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:26, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Thanks for taking the time to outlaw everything. I really do appreciate it. Unfortunately, it looks like this will require quite a bit of work and as someone with a lot of other hobbies I don't feel I have the time to do it properly. Oh well.
