LafayetteBunnellDraft

[edit]

I moved Jonwurl/LafayetteBunnellDraft to User:Jonwurl/LafayetteBunnellDraft, which I suspect was your intent. The first was an article with a strange name; the second is a user page. —teb728 t c 23:58, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Augustin Grignon, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/dictionary/index.asp?action=view&term_id=222&search_term=grignon.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Augustin Grignon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Speedy deletion nomination of Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company

[edit]

Hello Jonwurl,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:16, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, just to let you know that this has now been moved into userspace until it is ready to become a main article as per a request on my talk page. If you wish to improve the article it can be found at User:Shirt58/Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company--5 albert square (talk) 02:18, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Laurentian Shield.

I did have the Tennessee Valley Authority in mind when I objected to the speedy deletion of the WVIC article. Perhaps we could model a prospective article along the lines of that article? There is one very important difference between the TVA and the WVIC, however. The TVA is a government-owned corporation while the WVIC appears to - at least now - be an entirely private sector enterprise.

You also mentioned a book about the company: could you possibly give an ISBN for it, and some details about the author?

In the original article, you mentioned Wisconsin statutes that the company was established under. They won't assist an assertion of notability, as they are primary sources and reliance on them would be original research. They may nevertheless be useful in a strictly limited way. Do you know of an online repository of WI legislation that you could possibly point me to?

--Shirt58 (talk) 10:29, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've just noticed that I have done exactly what I get annoyed about other editors doing. "online repository of WI legislation" should be "online repository of the Wisconsin, United States of America legislation". --Shirt58 (talk) 10:50, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Shirt58 -- I am going to piecemeal my responses. I don't think you are saying this, but I do want to be clear that "private versus state-owned" is not the distinction of notability. One thing that is interesting along those lines is that if anyone had an objection to an article being promotional, you would think it would be to the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation article. And note that WPSC is a "member owner" of the WVIC. And in fact, I bet several of the member companies have WikiPedia articles. Would it me helpful to list them with their wikilinks? I just left them unnamed in my original text. More later ... Laurentian Shield (talk) 01:32, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, just following up on the member companies and their wikilinks:
Member companies without WikiPedia article (company web site is linked):
Still more later ... Laurentian Shield (talk) 02:05, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again -- Both of the books I cited have their ISBNs on the article that is now on your user page. Richard Durbin's book is the most authoritative:
  • Durbin, Richard. The Wisconsin River: And Odyssey Through Time and Space. Cross Plains, Wisconsin: Spring Freshet Press. ISBN 0-9658559-0-2.
I have not read the Michael Goc book, I just know it exists:
  • (Goc, Michael J (1993). Stewards of the Wisconsin: Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company. New Past Press. ISBN 0938627198.

Completing my response to the above questions/requests: Chapter 182 of the Wisconsin Statutes Laurentian Shield (talk) 17:08, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
