List vs Start

[edit]

Point of curiosity, why do some motor racing event articles get classified as 'lists' and others as 'Start-class', eg: 2008 V8 Supercars Manufacturers Challenge‎ vs 1972 Chesterfield 250‎. --Falcadore (talk) 03:10, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rating

[edit]

Thanks for checking ratings. Paul foord (talk) 01:16, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have done a quick first run for WikiProject Indigenous peoples of Australia and generally trust my judgment, I just had a glance at the bot reports, and there are some over-under ratings for both class & importance, not a lot though IMO. Where there is substantial disagreement on a rerating then some discussion may be needed. Paul foord (talk) 01:30, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Great Eastern Main Line, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Olana North (talk) 07:25, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have amended your unsourced addition, and replaced it with a properly sourced one. You may like to review my change and use it as an exmaple of a good edit. I offer this example to you in order that you may compare them against your own edits and hopefully improve the quality of your edits through greater use on references and quoting sources. Formatting nav box

[edit]

Do you know how to format a nav box, i.e. the nav box in an article will not be collapsed always, the nav box will be always fully displayed. I am trying to format the Template:Bridges in Slovenia for the article Dragon Bridge, so that the nav box is always displayed fully, not condensed, but the format is not working. This is the general format I know for nav boxes. But this is not working. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 13:27, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Magnoli*

[edit]

G'day mate,

Be advised that "magnoliid", "Magnoliophyta", "Magnoliopsida", "Magnoliidae", "Magnoliales", "Magnoliaceae", "Magnolioideae" and "Magnolia" do not all refer to the same thing. They are distinct taxa/clades at different ranks. Specifically, Myrtales may be Magnoliophyta and even Magnoliopsida, but they are most definitely not magnoliids. You might want to reassess the "low" rating of the article, as CFA is the largest operator of restaurants in the country. They have been involved in many legal cases, including some with BK and KFC, that have been precedent setting in Australia. They are also the official sponsors of several professional sports teams through their franchises.

I've updated Sugar Man (diabetes education) to provide more references... the PDF referenced was from a paper presented at a conference. I'm fairly new to all this but I feel like the post warrants notability... could you clarify for me?

Thank you for the tag on the Thalbourne article

[edit]

I just wanted to thank you for the tag you put by the article I started on Michael Thalbourne. I shall admit that I was concerned that this article did not initially cite references, so I have now added some. I considered it important that Thalbourne had his own entry to go on the list of Australian psychologists (I believe he is still at the University of Adelaide. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ACEOREVIVED (talkcontribs) 21:22, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Austral Society/Austral Halls

[edit]

Thanks for adding the Clubs category tag to the Austral Society. I hadn't yet researched exactly what tag was appropriate. I am looking to add more info on 'Austral Halls around Australia' - but am still researching as I can find very few web references, except to a few scattered mentions of events in a few such halls. I personally remember using the one in Bundaberg, but it was later demolished to form a car yard - as many such halls were! I still don't know for sure if every Austral Hall was built by/for the Austral Society, or even if such a list is easily accessible. I may have to do the basic hard footslog and visit the various historical archives in Toowoomba, next time I am up that way for a while. Any hints/tips will be appreciated. Will copy this basic info to the AS talk page. FoolesTroupe (talk) 06:16, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

McLean Family (rugby footballers)

[edit]

Hi Graham. Noticed you removed the categorisation on the Redirects for Doug McLean snr and Doug McLean jnr. Perhaps there's policy on this matter but the reason for the categorisation is so that the individuals appear on the list Category:Dual code rugby internationals rather than having the family article name McLean Family (rugby footballers) which of course wouldn't be right. I know I could split the articles out but in my view part of their notability is the extraordinary family Wallaby connection and the family article makes this clearer. So is there a problem with me re categorising the Redirects ? -Sticks66 12:14, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Other than to write two individual articles, can you give me a clue how I get those two players names onto the Category list. ?-Sticks66 12:23, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lazy articles should be deleted

[edit]

Hi Grahame. I have a question about deletion of articles. I often see a pattern where an article is listed for deletion, as nothing in the article demonstrates notability, and the article carries no reliable references from mainstream sources to establish notability. Then, in the deletion discussion, someone pops up and says the subject is listed in various newspapers. So the article gets a "keep" vote. But the article then lies idle, and never gets updated with references. An example is Tallangatta & District Football League. A tag was added in April for references to be added. None were. The article got a "keep" vote. References still not added. There's nothing verifiable in the article, and despite the facts being challenged, it survives. Shouldn't the author of an article be responsible for referencing? Many times, people in the delete discussions say those voting to delete an article should look for references before voting. Shouldn't it be possible to delete an unreferenced article? Regards, --Lester 06:46, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bring this up again. I'd like to contest the decision to allow the article Tallangatta & District Football League to be kept. Do you know the process to get this article reviewed? I read Wikipedia:Deletion review, but that seems to be focused on getting deleted articles undeleted. Every piece of information in Tallangatta & District Football League is disputed, but the disputed information can't be removed as there would be nothing left.--Lester 03:38, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fulton and related arts - hmmm - self promoted with little understanding of wp:mos - check out his director at the pearce movie - almost deleted twice - interested that you ok them - when i first came across them i reckon speedies could got em all - oh well - good on ya for doing the slog - i noticed its the current acootf exercise - if you are ever interested i have over a 1,000 indonesian stubs of dubious quality that need tagging too :( - just joking SatuSuro 13:03, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

sorry i suspect that i have hit a nerve there - nah keep up the good work and sorry for bringing up the issue with fulton et al - in the end it is something i have to deal with some other time - and hey go to what you enjoy doing - youve done great stuff keeping the tabs on arts as it is - dont let my sense of humour get in the way SatuSuro 13:14, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

fair enough - the fulton, pearce film and his director arts were really getting to me as they were so full of repetition, and self promo and lack of wp:rs - ironically if I hadnt cleaned em up they would have been still fodder for speedies - the big problem is i have neglected a number of dubious articles areas recently and going in and looking after seeing em being fiddled with has been depressing to see how really sloppy stuff isnt gtting challenged these days - anyways cannot you use online translator software to sort out german rail arts? Rail transport in Germany project

[edit]

Hi, A couple of months back, I arranged for a new project "Rail transport in Germany" to be set up and wondered if you'd like to join. I'm translating and adding articles regularly, but also trying to bring a bit of consistency and coherence to the categories and naming conventions etc. Would you be interested in joining? No pressure to do anything other than what you feel able to contribute.

One of the proposed conventions is to name German railways as "XXX railway" (referring to the German title in the intro). Do you mind if I move "Taunus-Eisenbahn" to "Taunus railway" on that basis? Regards. Bermicourt (talk) 13:38, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's great. All you need to do is add your name to the project page here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Trains/Rail_transport_in_Germany_task_force (you deserve to be there anyway looking at all the stuff you've already done!) and add stuff whenever you feel you have the time. Marrickville Greens page

[edit]

Hi Graeme, I'm not sure where I am meant to put my objection to your suggestion that the entry for Marrickville Greens be deleted. I'll place it here as well as the other places I've put it.

I think the Marrickville Greens should remain an entry on Wikipedia for the following reasons.

The Greens are a decentralised party. Each local group tends to be run campaigns (including non-electoral campaigns) as a separate entity with a lot more autonomy than the Labor and Liberal parties. I don't see why Wikipedia should be limited to entries on state and national parties. People may well be interested in local branches. I've seen whole books related to the Glebe Branch of the ALP for example. I've also seen far more esoteric subjects on Wikipedia. I thought Wikipedia is a live process with room to expand where the community wants to take it. The No Aircraft Noise Party has its own page - one can argue that they are far smaller and less consequential than the Marrickville Greens. The Marrickville by-election has its own wikipedia page - surely one of the main protagonists should have a page. The page provides useful information, backed with references, for the 80,000 people who live in Marrickville are and might want information on, and a history of the local Greens Party, as well as that info for people outside the area. It would seem I could have an entry on myself as a Greens Councillor on Marrickville Council, but the group itself doesn't warrant an entry? That seems arbitrary and if anything the reverse should be the case. I don't think I warrant a page on Wikipedia, but I think the local group does. If someone is reading about Marrickville Council on Wikipedia and it mentions The Greens, don't you think it is more appropriate to be able to link to the local group directly, rather than having a link the The Greens NSW or Australian Greens, which may not provide as useful information.

For all those reasons I do not think it should be deleted. Indeed I think interesting local groups/branches, should be encouraged to put information up. I'd certainly be interested to read it.

Thanks.

I think the classification of this article as a Stub is erroneous under the definition [3] at WikiProject Australia's page. The definition and examples for both Stub and Start would suggest that this article is a Start quality article. A comparison with, for example, Broken Hill railway line, New South Wales which has been classified as 'Start', would suggest that that would be an appropriate classification also. Splendid work! I have added as further reading what might seem to be an excessively obscure Italian text: especially as it was published in 1845, the same year that construction of the railway began. Actually it has a lot of good stuff on the context and planning phase of the new railway, and I’ll try to add some material from it to the history section over the next week, at which point it can become a reference. I hope that you were asleep when Ernest Archdeacon was up, rather than simply avoiding it as a 'lost cause', but I would be intrigued if you have the time to assess it. ... I am also intrigued about where the raft of 'sloppy' categories on the talk page have come from, to wit, Aviation articles needing attention to referencing and citation | Aviation articles needing attention to coverage and accuracy | Aviation articles needing attention to structure | Aviation articles needing attention to grammar | Aviation articles needing attention to supporting materials | Aviation articles with incomplete B-Class checklists... I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Amazon Eve. I do not think that Amazon Eve fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because Being the "worlds tallest model" is a claim of significance. Note that the bar for an a7 speedy is lower than notability. Note also that if it is "not obvious" whether something is a claim or not, an A7 is probably out, A7 should be clear cut, IMO. German railway articles

[edit]

Grahamec, thank you for all the work you do on railway articles. I see you renamed the Höllentalbahn in the Black Forest to Höllen Valley Railway and then changed it back, as it caused problems. I would be interested to know what problems you were referring to. Usually XXXtalbahn can be sensibly translated as XXX Valley Railway because the valley is named after a river XXX. This is common naming practice in English-speaking countries. But I agree that Höllentalbahn is more problematic because the valley's name is not derived from a river but (presumably) from the word for hell: "Hölle". Should we call it "Hell Valley Railway"? I'm not sure. Or "Hölle Valley Railway" dropping the "n" which is only a link letter? In one case this could be appropriate because there is a village called Hölle after which the line is named. It's one of those translation conundrums! Any thoughts? Regards, --Bermicourt (talk) 07:04, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you. You should be able to move it to Hölle Valley Railway (Black Forest) because the redirect has no history. Otherwise the only way to resolve it is to get an admin to change it. --Bermicourt (talk) 07:11, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well done! Gruß. --Bermicourt (talk) 12:25, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Dammit. :) Hey, Bermicourt, correct me if I'm wrong but unless you have in between found a source, it is still only your idea that line and valley were named after the village, and not village and line after the valley. No surprises here when I point out that the name is Höllental, not Hölletal, as I have just redundantly done at your site (sorry 'bout that). And what's with dropping a letter from a name in a foreign language just because it's "just a link letter", whatever this is supposed to mean? Still don't think you should be making up names. Translate it (hell valley, which hardly anybody will be looking for) or don't (Höllental is the name, after all), but don't go creating new names. Not here on WP. On the same note, just deciding something shall get a name? Hm. Oh, and Graham - listen to Bermicourt in matters of the river. There's no river named Hölle in any of those valleys. There's the Selbitz in Franconia, the Schwarza in Austria, and the Rotbach in the Black Forest. Regards, and until Hölle freezes over, --G-41614 (talk) 16:08, 15 March 2010 (UTC) (no hard feelings, ok?)[reply]

German railways - great work!

[edit]

Grahamec, thank you for your great work on German railways. It's encouraging to have such a profilic author/translator on board! One of the subtler aspects of the naming convention which I thought I'd flag up is that when a railway is just named after the places it links, we use the Wiki convention of lower case i.e. XXX–YYY railway with a long dash in between. If the railway has a 'proper name', usually after the valley it's in, then we use upper case i.e. XXX Valley Railway. In addition, and this is where it gets very subtle (!) if the railway is also the name of the operating company (often the case with early railways) we use upper case where you'd expect to see lower i.e. XXX-YYY Railway and a short dash. This is explained at the conventions page with examples. Anyway, keep up the good work! --Bermicourt (talk) 07:11, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

PS What sparked your interest in German railways when you live so far away? Have you lived here?
in re Interest in German railways: next time you're in Freiburg, feel free to say hi. Promise I won't bother you with the Höllentalbahn (not Hölletalbahn). :) Regards, --G-41614 (talk) 11:33, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't mean to get you involved into something you don't feel like getting involved into. The convention is one thing, but there's a reason behind my issue with the Höllental, or Höllen Valley, and the railroad respectively. It's all here [7] in case you want to take a closer look. Fun thing, I just got an e-mail from the administration where one of the valley's located. Says that the name might be derived from the celtic "hel", as a term for ragged landscapes. So you're kinda right on the spot. --G-41614 (talk) 12:10, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you created this category. However, a while ago there was a (limited) discussion about categorizing academic journals by country and it was decided to do away with these cats. Although for some journals it may be straightforward, for the great majority of academic journals it is not. Science is nowadays a very international undertaking and even journals that have the name of a country in their name (such as the Australian journals that you put into this category) will have people from other countries on their editorial boards. If they are published by a commercial publisher, that may at some point merge with another one, based in another country. So even with such journals it will not always be easy to say how it should be categorized according to country. (In fact, the Australian Journal of Entomology is a case in point: it is published by a US-based publisher). If you then take journals such as the one that I edit (Dutch editor, based in France, published by a publisher that is based in the UK but with offices in many other countries and recently merged with a US company), it is basically impossible to say to which country they should be categorized. If you agree, you could remove the categorization from the 3 journals that are currently so tagged and this category will then be deleted automatically after a while. The discussion that I referred to can be found here. Happy editing! --Crusio (talk) 13:24, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi again: Would you mind if I remove this category from the three journals that are currently in it, so that it can be deleted as has been done with similar cats? --Crusio (talk) 13:50, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • The problem is that this kind of categorization is meaningless for almost all journals. And as I explained above, it is not even unambiguous for the three journals concerned, as they are published by companies based in the US and UK. The whole point is that nowadays science is never done on a national basis any more, it is always international. I don't know whether this is the case for some journals with the name "Australian" in the title, but many journals that used to be named "British" have changed this (BMJ is an example) and other "British" journals have editors of other nationalities based in other countries. Even though they have "British" in their names, under these conditions it would be strange to categorize them as "British journal". When we still had the categories "British academic journals" and "American academic journals", journals publisehd by Blackwell would be categorized as British and those published by Wiley as American. This would mean that two of the "Australian" journals would actually have to be re-categorized or categorized in more than one national category. And if one then gets, say, a New Zealand editor, would we then add a third national cat? I think it is simpler and more logical to remove all these national categories. --Crusio (talk) 14:12, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, I just checked "History", and its scope specifically includes the Asia-Pacific region and even modern Europe... I have no strong opinion on the Australia project tags. Some people tag some journals with a "project Chicago" tag for no other reason than that the journals (on a host of different topics) are published by the University of Chicago Press... These journals have a clear Australian slant (even though far from exclusive), so the Australian Project might be interested in them. --Crusio (talk) 14:22, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Russian embassy in Canberra

[edit]

Hi Graham, you took this photo - File:Russian Embassy Canberra.jpg - I am currently discussing various projects with the Russian embassy in Canberra, in trying to recruit them to provide materials for articles such as photos of previous ambassadors to Australia from Soviet Union and Russia for User:Russavia/Australia, and which I hope will turn into far wider co-operation with them in trying to recruit them to push Russian foreign affairs and other organisations to release materials under CC, and perhaps enter into archive agreements with Commons. There is interest there from them in helping me to develop articles such as Australia–Russia relations (which I expanded a few months back). Anyway, in an email I am going to write shortly to them in Canberra, I am going to request that a Wikipedian be organised access to their compounds in Canberra (the embassy, trade mission, etc) in order to take photos, and perhaps of current ambassador, etc. If I put this to them, and they agree, would there be any interest from you in taking up this small assignment? Can you msg me on my talk page if there is, or perhaps email me -- I am in the middle of getting a major request done up for them, and may not be watching other's talk pages, etc. Cheers, --Russavia I'm chanting as we speak 05:49, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Graham. Do you know how to address the history section? I'm afraid no suburban/district-level history books on Canberra make it to Adelaide. The other parts look eminently doable to avert a FAR, and I'm going through that at the moment, but the history looks like it needs a Canberran to save. Graham, you beat me to it! More great work! I live in Germany, currently, and have spent a lot of my life here over the years. I am primarily interested in Bavarian railways and love translating German - like you I like a mental challenge: crosswords and jigsaw puzzles being other favourites of mine. I started the Railways of Germany task force and translated and tagged a lot of articles to begin with. I still do some work in that area, but my current focus is articles related to the region I live in. --Bermicourt (talk) 11:11, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Joe Thambu

Grahamec, you flagged Joe Thambu as possibly not meeting notability guidelines. This is a person who exists in subject matter oriented encyclopedia's [see this link] as the person who introduced his Yoshinkan Aikido to Australia. You can help out by telling me why you felt it failing the noteworthiness test? Specifically, what was it you were looking for but didn't find?

Thank you.

Hi

I'm not au fait with Wiki hierarchy etc, so I am writing to you because you reviewed and rated the Gordon Nuttall article on 16 December 2009.

The article "Gordon Nuttall" was blocked from editing from 4 Feb 2010 to 23 April 2010 by Rebecca.

During this time Nuttall's appeal against his conviction and sentence was heard and judged.

Yesterday (23 April 2010), I filled in the missing pieces; to wit,

.....................................

On 12 February 2010, his appeal against conviction & sentence was heard in the Supreme Court of Queensland before Chief Justice Paul de Jersey, Justice Hugh Fraser and Justice Catherine Holmes. On 23 March 2010 his appeal against conviction was unanimously dismissed, and his application for leave to appeal against sentence was unanimously refused.

(Ref: http://archive.sclqld.org.au/qjudgment/2010/QCA10-064.pdf Supreme Court's written judgment)

.......................................

and regarding his second trial for 'official corruption',

......................................

On 9 April 2010, the matter was mentioned in the Brisbane District Court where the Crown's representatives said they would not be ready to go to trial until early 2011.

( Ref: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/04/09/2868422.htm ABC Online 'Fresh Nuttall trial not until next year' - Kim Lyell - (9 April 2010)

.....................................

The above paras were deleted by Rebecca, leaving this message on my talk page;

......

"Ah, silly me. I'd forgotten that you were the person who added the BLP violations to the article in the first place. You've got one warning - knock it off, or the article will be reprotected and you'll be blocked for good measure.

The article could really do with an update and some good contributions, but your additions to the article were totally beyond the pale. Moreover, the article is bad enough as it is - it covers the corruption charges against him in ten times more detail as the entire rest of his career.

As such, if you want to contribute to this article productively, please stop, thoroughly read and acquaint yourself with WP:BLP, and start trying to create a neutral, verifiable, and comprehensive article about Nuttall. If you can't do that, please find somewhere else to direct your energy - rest assured that re-adding that material will see you instantly blocked. Rebecca (talk) 08:34, 22 April 2010 (UTC)" ......

So, we are left with Nuttal's appeal & judgment missing on Wiki. I find this situation bizarre and concerning. Can you help?

Regards

I am a German user living in Frankfurt am Main, interested in railways and (co-)author of a lot of articles on railway lines and railway history in the vincinity within de-Wikipedia. I just redid the Frankfurt-Hanau Railway. Even so the translation is excellent a few "mistakes" did happen (which I put right) and I added a few remarks for English speaking users which a German user (perhaps) would now. If you put any further articles on this subject and within this area into en-Wikipedia, give me a notice and I will check it as a frequent user of those railway lines. -- Reinhard Dietrich (talk) 11:12, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

restored a comment

[edit]

Hi Graham - I restored the comment of mine you removed over at Talk:Chinese immigration to Australia‎ - I presume that it was unintentional on your part to remove the comment, and I'm guessing that you just wanted to return the funny boxes at the top of the page? - I find them both a bit useless, and sometimes actively unhelpful - for example, is the article really being supported by a wikiproject which seems to have been inactive for, well, years to be honest? - anywhooo... ping me if you'd like to chat further, or if you have any feedback on the comment I restored, or for any reason really :-)

Did you create the Terence Clarke (composer) article?

[edit]

Hi there. I am helping to go through the backlog of articles with no sources. Did you creat the above article? It seems like the subject could be notable, but I cannot find where any of his works are in print. Also, though he has had a long, and apparently successful, career in the arts, I am not sure that alone passes WP:NOTE, especially if not sourced or unverifiable. But I hate deleting articles, so if you could provide some sources, or point me to some, I'll attempt to get this article up to WP standards. Shouldn't be much to it if the sources are there. Thanks! Photography

[edit]

I noted, after your edit with the tags, that you are interested in photography. I've been searching for copyright-free photos of Plomley, without success. I note that the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Launceton, which keeps his collections, has several. Anyone you could contact them to see if they would (it seems possible from their wording) waive their rights in the good cause of having Plomley's article on wiki? If this is too much of a bother, ignore it. I dropped them a note apropos, but know absolutely nothing about copyright on wikipedia or how to upload photos were that possible in this case. Dear Grahamec , can I know your opinion in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Calm Centre --Mohamed Ouda (talk) 16:58, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Grahame, I note the changes you have made to the names of the (presently non existent) railway line articles linked from the infobox for this article, and your rationale for your changes. However, I chose the original names after some careful thought.

The problem is that there is both a de:Saarstrecke and a de:Saarbahn, and a de:Moselstrecke and a de:Moselbahn. Meanwhile, the de:Obermoselstrecke page redirects to de:Bahnstrecke Thionville–Trier, so Thionville–Trier railway is probably the correct name for the equivalent en.wiki page (when it is eventually created).

We can probably go with your translation of de:Eifelstrecke, though.

Any comments? Bahnfrend (talk) 12:01, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that railway line is better than route. But neither of them really fits the en.wiki conventions, so I also agree with you as to what is "best". (FWIW, I think that the format Schmidtstadt–Johannstadt railway is usually the best naming choice for an en.wiki article about a railway, even if the proper de language name of the line is König Johannsbahn or whatever.) Fair use rationale for File:John Percival Boy with Cat 2 1943.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:John Percival Boy with Cat 2 1943.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 14:28, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Viaducts

[edit]

Hello Grahame! Thank you for frequently returning to the Göltzschtalbrücke article to make corrections. I see you started the Elster Valley Viaduct article a while ago and would like to conform both article names to one another.

In a search for what Wikipedia has to say about this, I found a the WikiProject Germany naming convention (Group B) to specifically explain how Weihetalbrücke appears as Weihe Valley Bridge on Wikipedia. In a similar vein, conforming both our articles to this would mean:

Since I also see that the word Viaduct is frequently used in articles describing railways, this may imply competing style guide naming conventions (e.g. between the WikiProjects of Germany and Railways or Engineering), I would like to hear your thoughts on this proposal to move both articles. Thanks for the pleasant collaboration so far! (Even though it has largely been indirect.) -- Eddyspeeder (talk) 21:51, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for that response Grahame. Based on that, I have put the naming convention up for discussion. Based on the result of that, I will correct the names accordingly. Any outcome is acceptable to me. Kind regards, Eddyspeeder (talk) 07:18, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Electoral district of Ingleburn requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -Porchcrop (talk|contributions) 05:21, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Even though the copyvio tag on Electoral district of Ingleburn was absolutely 100% dead wrong, I thought your comment at User talk:Porchcrop was rather strong to be directed toward an editor who definitely seems to be interested in contributing in good faith. Although he's been having a lot of trouble with CSD lately, he's certainly not a vandal. Thanks and happy editing! Zachlipton (talk) 07:17, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your new comment. I can see why you thought his tag was in bad faith and how off-putting the threatening statement on his talk page are--that's an area of active discussion at WP:Editor review/Porchcrop (4) in fact. Your point about false accusations is a good one too, and not something that gets enough attention. In any case, thanks. Zachlipton (talk) 22:08, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
