Links
[edit]Hi, before you add too many more links into articles, can I suggest that the articles such as Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire actually exist before you cross reference to them. See also sections are not for indiscriminate links but are there to aid understanding of the subject. A link to Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire is not aiding directly in understanding about the county but just to an organisation interested in the county.
I also see that you want to add categories to pages, that's fine but please understand the heirarchy of categories and the naming conventions. Category:List of Antiquarian Societies shouldn't be a category, there might be grounds for a Category:Antiquarian societies into which individual antiquarian societies can be added as can the article List of Antiquarian Societies but the category shouldn't be named List of. You added Category:Antiquarian societies to Category:Historical societies, this would make Historical socities a subordinate of Antiquarian societies rather than it's equal or even it's superior which is more likely to be the case. Lancashire and Cheshire Antiquarian Society
[edit]I've looked at User:Gfd1914/Lancashire and Cheshire Antiquarian Society and it's perfectly valid explanation of the society but it doesn't explain why it's notable. Please see WP:ORG as to what needs to be achieved - basically you need independent verifiable sources about the society. For example has the society any publications which are accepted as authorative and are quoted by others? Are there journals that refer to the work of the of the society? If so you need to refer to this in the article either in the text or as references to the text. A quick google scholar search shows that this shouldn't be too difficult e.g. Chaloner's 1963 book Salt in Cheshire seems to have been references by a lot of other authors since. So your article can include something like Papers produced for the Society are published in the Transactions of the Society which have been and are widely referenced by other authors e.g. W H Chaloner's 1961 paper Salt in Cheshire 1600–1870 (published in the Transactions of the Society volume 71) has been referenced in books on subjects as diverse as the Archaeology of Preston Island to the work of the Victualling Board of the British Admiralty I wouldn't use those words directly but I hope you get the gist of what I mean - show that the work of the Society is well accepted especially in the "academic" sector. I've got this page on my watch list so if you want to discuss further or need any help just leave a reply to this. NtheP (talk) 11:16, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
- Addendum, I see another editor has already made identical reply to your AFC namely that it lacks verifiable sources. NtheP (talk) 11:18, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
