Good job on expanding A Bayou Legend past what it started as! It looks nice, and I asked DYKers to reconsider your hook. Keep it up! BobAmnertiopsisChitChat Me! 11:17, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Opera articles

[edit]

Hi (and Welcome from the Opera Project). As you'll have seen if you have them on your watchlist, I've added some categories to your four articles. Check the documentation on the Project Page for which categories are essential. You may have noticed that I created new categories for "Operas by xxxx", even though, in Drattell's case, there's currently only one with an article. It's quite easy to do.

The other things I did were 1) to alter your link to Lilith from Drattell's article - it went to the mythological character, which I guess was an oversight, since you put a correct link to the opera on the Lilith disambiguation page; also 2) I added a Stub tag to Lilith (opera) as it doesn't have many of the elements needed for a full article - again, see the Project page. The other articles would benefit from the insertion of sub-headings, again as recommended by the Project. It's a moot point whether they count as stubs, too - probably yes, except for the Joplin.

The final thing is that the articles should be added to The opera corpus so that Project members are up to date. I did that for Lilith and maybe the Joplin one, but not for Still.

Nevertheless, good work and feel free to ask questions - that's how we all learn. --GuillaumeTell 21:49, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Congratulations on Mrs. P's promotion to GA status! This is excellent news - I know you put a lot of hard work into the article. I'm sorry I wasn't able to offer more help. Once the FA I'm working on is done, I'd still like to see if I can't track down a few more sources for the article, as I am intrigued by the topic. I'll keep you posted on what I find.

Thank you, also, for the barnstar: it's such a lovely surprise to get one. :) Kafka Liz (talk) 11:35, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eco - If we can find the sources, we can certainly try. I don't think it'll be easy, though, realistically speaking. Not necessarily impossible, but not easy. Kafka Liz (talk) 15:57, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback on Big Doe Camp

[edit]

I have posted the article temporarily in My Sandbox. If you want please take a look and give me any feedback you may have, or feel free to edit the article a little. ELt me know if you think it is a stage where I can post it to the Main Wikipedia Space. Magnetawan (talk) 15:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok that would be great if you could edit it a little. I reference two main articles from the Toronto Star in 1975, and 1955. If you need these articles I can e-mail them to you if you are setup to allow e-mails and feel you need them. I removed the camp song, Your probably right on that point. it is always something that I can add at a later date when I know the article will not be promptly deleted. Once you have gone through it let me know if you think it is at a point where I should try and post it again to the Main Wikipedia. Magnetawan (talk) 15:39, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Our Friendly Admin has undeleted the article and I have moved all the edits over to the original. So please edit the article on the mainspace at Big Doe Camp. --Magnetawan (talk) 15:55, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for all of your help with the article. Your right the article does hold a certain value to me. I also appreciate your edits. I will go through them all soon, at the moment however I have a few other real life things to attend to. This next week and a half is extremely crazy for me. Wikipedia has seemed to take over my life recently. I am happy to have gotten the article to a position where it will not deleted. Your help is very much appreciated, I was kind of stuck and didn't know what to do for a while until you pointed me in the right direction. I was getting ready to give up but you gave me a new sense of hope. Also thanks again for the edits and not actually posting them all right away. I will go though them and will most likely implement many of them, it just might take me about a week. Magnetawan (talk) 19:37, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well I'm not really back on yet but rather avoiding my other work. I've taken a look at your edits and I like some of them and not others. I don't want to remove all the information about the different schools though as I'm trying to link the article to as many different things as possible so that if it ever went to AFD I could say it has impact on more stuff. Give me a couple more days. I have an exam tomorrow and another on wednesday. Magnetawan (talk) 20:30, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar Thanks

[edit]

Thanks for your kind words and my first barnstar. The majority of my contributions are on Chiropractic, an article that with quite heated discussion, so I try my best to maintain a civil and professional demeanor. Cheers, DigitalC (talk) 05:22, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to comment on this and specifically the speedy delete tag 'mini-war' we had. As I said on the talk page I think there was just enough info in the original page to warrant keeping it although it need major updating and so remove the speedy delete tag (quite properly). It had also been speedy deleted once before when I hadn't had a chance to delete the tag so wanted to avoid that happening again as my original google search suggested there may be something there. I now feel justified in that action as it's now a clear cut case as evidienced by the discussion on the AfD. I accept we have different views about whether it should stay but hope there's no hard feelings about the 'speedy delete' issue. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dpmuk (talkcontribs) 14:25, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your very nice comment on my talk page. Glad we got it all sorted to everyone's satisfaction. Now I've just got to keep my promise to tidy up the page! Hopefully I'll at least make it make sense although as I've not done major editing of a page before the style may not be great. That said I've been meaning to learn how to do a page properly for a while but have struggled to know what to write about as job related issues mean I can't write about the only area I have real expertise on. Dpmuk (talk) 23:00, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Have now updated it and there appears to be at least one other active editor. I'd be interested if you had any constructive comments on what I've done as I'm new to major edits and you've taken an interest in the page. Dpmuk (talk) 00:21, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Zan Award or Whatever

[edit]
Heh. Thanks for the temp. That was the last award i thought I would get (you would've chosen something different if you'd known me in real life).
Although, my goals are further away that Grawp's and WoW's:
  1. I was a sockpuppeteer, unblocked less than a month ago. I'll have to wait a year, possibly more, to even have a remote shot at participating in a request for something/
  2. I'm adopted now.
  3. I have less than 3000 contributions.
  4. All my mainspace contributions are reverting vandalism.
  5. I'm too annoying and paranoid about Wikipedia to ever be important.
But really, don't think the template didn't mean anything. It was a great confidence booster that at least one out of millions cares about me. May you become an administrator one day! Shapiros10 contact meMy work 17:52, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Goofed up"? Dude. I had a sockfarm. If I had "goofed up", like maybe speedying an article that I didn't know didn't meet criteria, I'd probably be given a level-1 or something.
I'm very honored that you think I'm a "nice guy". but being a nice guy isn't the same thing as being a good editor. Shapiros10 contact meMy work 18:20, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I see that you removed my speedy nomination from the Michael J Starr article, claiming that notability had been asserted. My RfA

[edit]

Hello Ecoleetage. How are you? I hope you are doing well. I withdrew nomination. Thank you for supporting my RfA.[1] I really admire your support. Here on Wikipedia, articulate comments on XfDs, ANB, etc are more valued than one's ability to create and expand articles. Without articles, Wikipedia will be useless. Many people have become admins without creating/expanding many articles. You've created many articles. I really admire that. If you apply for adminship, I will support you. If you have any suggestions for me, feel free to contact me. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 12:48, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ecoleetage! Thank you for your kind message. I'm speechless. And thank you for the barnstar. I'm so glad to know that people like you contribute to Wikipedia. We need more people like you. You are more interested in creating and expanding articles instead of wikipolitics and wikidrama. Here so many people have become admins because of their ability to "win arguments" rather than their ability to create and expand articles. Thank you again, and please stay in touch! Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 02:58, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I am sort of surprised more people aren't trying to clobber me on the head with a shovel! But thank you for the kind words. I will be there for you when you go for RfA #2. Ecoleetage (talk) 03:02, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Eco ... I was in the process of creating about a dozen stubs this morning for numerous redlinked articles from Music of Newfoundland and Labrador, much in the same way I did lots of Trinidad and Tobago articles last week (as you already know). However, the first two I created this morning (which were more detailed than my T&T ones]] ended up getting marked for speedy deletion. Then I saw your name editing one, and have hope.

However, with the first ones getting speedy deletions (not by you), having to re-edit, add hangon, then edit the discussion page adds far too much time in the creation of the articles.

I give up. Bwilkins (talk) 13:31, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

St. John's Monastery; WikiProject Agriculture

[edit]

(moved here from User talk:Doug to maintain unified discussion, please move back when responding)

Hello! When you have a chance, please check your e-mail -- I sent over text for the expansion of your work-in-progress article on St. John's Monastery (I didn't want to post it here or on your WIP User page). I also want to know what role, if any, I could play in helping to expand WikiProject Agriculture. Feel free to respond on my Talk Page. Cheers! Ecoleetage (talk) 14:19, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the e-mail! I was surprised that you had found so much information on the topic. Maybe the variation in naming was the problem I was having. I will move the article to article space and you can add your information. If I post it the attribution would be wrong. I was hoping to get the article to WP:DYK standards, but that requires a large expansion over a very brief period, that's why I held the article in userspace. I also haven't had time to work on it recently. I think I put more photos of it on commons and I'm sure I have many more, though some I may need to get permission from others (either other photographers or people who show clearly in the photos). The article will move today with a redirect from my userspace.
As for WP:AG there is a lot to be done. I haven't been as active on Wikipedia in general over the past couple months as I had been before. I hope to pick it back up soon. As for the project, look at the to do list and the talk page and you should find a lot to do. One issue I'd been working on was naming of breed lists. There was a pretty thin discussion on one of the naming guideline pages in which it was agreed that we can omit "List of" from the article names of breed lists. The link is somewhere on the talk page for the Ag project. So my question was should they be named "Breeds of X" or "X breeds". I never got any input. Of course there are a lot of articles that need work too. Thanks again.--Doug.(talk contribs) 16:05, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CSD of H. Tomas Padilla

[edit]

Hello! I just took the speedy delete tag off H. Tomàs Padilla - I was under the assumption that the article was incorrectly tagged by an overzealous editor. But then I saw that you (as the article's author) tagged it for removal. I didn't quite understand why you did this, since the article appears to be well referenced and the subject was notable. If you wish to delete the article, I might recommend just blanking the page and then putting the Speedy Delete tag on it. I hope I didn't create an inconvenience for you. Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 19:12, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, no. That's a good point. That particular page was a userspace page that I was using to get everything right before moving to mainspace. The mainspace article is alive and well so I can get rid of the userspace one. Thanks for the tip on blanking first. padillaH (review me)(help me) 19:18, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
On second look thank you very much for your good eye. I hadn't noticed but the userspace page redired to the mainspace article. Hiya! Sorry I haven't been in touch for so long. I was taking a near-complete Wikibreak, while I went on a vacation. Following that, I got hooked on not facts, but on fiction at the website A Million Monkeys Typing. It's really fun; I urge you to check it out.
Anyway, I've slowly been reacclaimating myself into wiki, mostly improving old articles I've started, or trying to think of new ones. What have you been up to? BobAmnertiopsisChatMe! 12:42, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ya' know, I have thought about becoming an admin, but it just doesn't interest me that much. I simply enjoy the researching and writing of articles, and I dislike deleting them. I think it would entail more responsibility than I can, at this point, muster. Maybe someday. And anyway, you're a better candidate for it. You're oft involved in AfD discussions and other such things. But thanks for thinking of me...bye! BobAmnertiopsisChatMe! 20:04, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: DYK photos

[edit]

Basically, all images that are non-free cannot be used on the Main Page and, by extension, in DYK. If you are going to use an image for DYK, it has to either be in the public domain or licensed under a free-use license such as the GFDL or one of the Creative Commons licenses. Also, we generally avoid using any images other than free images unless we cannot possible obtain a free equivalent that would adequately provide the same information. (for example, a movie poster or a company logo) The reason the bot removed your pic from the DYK nom page is that non-free content is only allowed in the article space (although in practice, they are often used in article talk pages as well). Hope that answers your question. Your other request is done as well. Regards. Thingg 15:23, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

well just so you know, the topic of the theory that zionism is a form a racism is commonly characterized with the title "Zionism and racism" in college courses and is an area of study, a neutral one at that. whether or not someone agrees with this fact or not doesn't mean that this study is not an actual field and that is should deserve an article. the article is however, hideous in its composition, its dreadfully ridden with extended quote after quote, has no central theme or good sectioning and tends to ramble, which is sad because this seems to have turned people off to the point that they would rather have it deleted than improved. what is it you thought should be done to Guerneville, California again?MYINchile 21:21, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements.

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Thanks again to everyone who spared the time to weigh in on this one. It was made in better faith than it probably seemed.

Yes, it's true! No joking! Your post about Anna B. on my talkpage, and what you were able to do to "save" an article (and make three out of it even:-) has truly impressed me, enough so that I decided this morning that I was going to (mostly) ignore my talkpage other than simple replies, and have a "go" at article writing. I found two articles that had been tagged (in all fairness to the taggers, I believe they were tagged fairly and in good faith) for speedy deletion and rescued them! Ha! Me, Keeper, doing article work! I honestly am not pleading for recognition (if I was, I'd be typing this on my talkpage instead of yours), but I just thought you should know that because of you and your dedication to the "little things" on Wikipedia (you know, like being nice, being patient, and making this place a bit more comprehensive along the way) are an inspiration to me. As testament to this, I dedicate the two "newest" article expansions to you: Charles William Ledbetter, and the even better, Costaki Economopoulos. Thanks for being who you are, Eco! I'm glad I know you, and I'm glad you're here! (and, if you want to help me with something, I'm desperately looking for sources for Ledbetter before it gets AfD'd - he was a Tuskegee Airman, 30 years of fine USAF service, an unsung American hero and inspiration and definitely notable in his time, but unfortunately not much online about him other than an obit that I found seeing as his notability was 60 years ago. If you know where to point me to find an offline source or two, I'd be most grateful :-) Keeper ǀ 76 19:29, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that you started the article. The article was on the To Do List for possible articles for next year's April Fool's Day DYK articles. Wow, a Disney movie on that topic! Royalbroil 04:01, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the rules are slightly different for April Fool's DYK: it counts new and 5x+ expansion articles over the previous YEAR. So the article is considered eligible right now. Would you improve it soon so that I can certify it as ready? It's definitely a shocking hook that would be hard to improve on. Editorofthewiki would be proud...oh wait, I am Editorofthewiki and I am proud! Anyway, congrats, and Editorofthewiki needs to stop talking in the third person. Thanks, Eco. I hadn't heard of it either until I saw a small ad for it in the Metro one morning. I looked to see if there was a page here and since there wasn't, I dugg to see what I could find. It seems to have had a colorful history. It's not far from me either so I may go take a walk when I have some time. TravellingCari 16:51, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there Eco, could you provide a link?---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 01:02, 25 August 2008 (UTC) Hey there Eco, just so you know, my questions weren't to challenge you, but rather to see if I needed to change my "weak support." Regarding your recent e-mail

[edit]

Eco: You are doing an absolutely fantastic job of editing. I had originally thought some of your comments at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Rogers_Orchards were a little sharp, but looking back at them I don't think so now. Can you tell me something? We started off bad based on a single article and you had a very narrow area of editing. That has completely turned around and you are now a highly successful editor in a broad area of subject matters and that is an understatement (the fact that you have saved articles is one thing, the fact that you have turned them into DYKs is another altogether!) Can you give me some thoughts on what changed to make you start editing in a broader area and with a more developed sense of civility? That could easily sound like a slam, I know. But please be assured it is not intended to be one. I just see it as a "shocking improvement" and wonder at what caused it; or in the alternative what was going on back then.

Additionally, are you active on the Portuguese wikipedia?

On a completely different note, I have a large number of pictures of Saint Elijah's Monastery which I will eventually upload to Commons. I think the photo the article uses is the best of the ones I have but the others might be interesting and would be a good excuse for a link to commons.

Indian AfD

[edit]

Hi Eco! I understand that you are involved in the AfD area of Wikipedia, so I just want to notify you of this AfD that I started. I guess Indian AfDs aren't as rare as Maldivian ones, but... The main problem with the artice is that I can't understand it, but I don't think it's patent nonsense. --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 19:53, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problemo. I found out about this article while dabbing for Template:Dhading District. I value your opinion very much, that's why I contacted you about the debate (and the fact I rarely submit AfDs, this, I think, is my 5th). Cheers --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 20:11, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

...a reply! I figured you'd find that humourous! Things are (mostly) good over here. I'm still being called a racist/prejudiced on someone's talk page, and everyone is shying away from any type of response over in Wikipedia:Wikiquette_alerts#User:Samuel_Webster. I've slowed down on my stubs - after the fun I had with Trinidad islands, I moved over to the Music of Newfoundland and Labrador and started created stubs from redlinks over there, and they magically started disappearing too. I've kinda resolved myself to fixing vandalism and trying to mediate problems (see Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2008-07-03_Silent_Hill and Wikipedia:Wikiquette_alerts#User:Aradic-es. I've realized that mediating draws nasty comments, as I've been called everything from a "pervert" to a "racist" - both of which are hilarious of course. I did go nuts one day and spent about 2 hours researching and writing University_of_Montana_School_of_Journalism since it was on the most-wanted list LOL. If you ever need that $2 coin mailed to ya, just let me know, I'm glad you put it to good use!! BMW(drive) 11:06, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WTH

[edit]

Why aren't you an admin? You build new articles, you are defintely here to make the encyclopedia better, you've gotten mixed up in a few ruffles (all good editors have - that's prima facie evidence, at least to me, of someone who actually cares about this place), and you don't seem to want to go away or retire. You should be an admin. Back when I was nominating others, you were on my list of "editors to watch". That was months ago, and you've done nothing but impress me since. I can name about 5 editors that will oppose your nomination, but I can also name about 25 that will support. If you are interested, I think you should self-nom, knowing that I, and many others, will balance out "the one" that opposes self-noms. Just my thoughts. I'm going offline. Hopefully, when I come online tomorrow, my first post will be a +1 in your support column, if you want the extra buttons. Cheers, happy editing, regardless of what you decide :-) Keeper ǀ 76 01:30, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And so we beat on...

[edit]

Message from Eco: Tonight I learned an interesting lesson: I need to spend time away from Wikipedia. I canceled my RfA in view of the growing level of hostility and venality on display. For those who were supportive of my efforts, thanks! For those who wanted to see me fall, I can state that I did not fail -- this system failed me. I am going to take time off from this Lewis Carroll realm and try to get sun on my face and fresh air in my system. I don't know how long I will be away, or if I will even return. Because I am looking for an environment where hard work is appreciated, friendship is encouraged and people work together for the common good. But at Wikipedia, it appears, I am in the wrong queue. Oh well, maybe I'll give it another go later on. If you want to reach me, hit me via email -- I won't be peeking in here. Take care! Your friend, Felipe. Ecoleetage (talk) 03:05, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I do hope you return soon. You have wonderful contributions and it although I might have helped in the RFA (I am sorry that I did it), I still have tremendous respect for you. You don't have to have administrator tools to get respect. :) Come back soon. <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 04:44, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ditto.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 05:22, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm so disappointed to find out that your RFA was unsuccessful. I just cannot believe what happened. You are one of the best person I've ever met in life and I hope you will return to Wikipedia someday. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 05:51, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Dito. I was convinced that there is no way that this RfA could ever fail. I hope you will return soon and enrich this project with your help, no matter what people try to blame on you... Enjoy your wikibreak though :-) SoWhy 08:40, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As a wiki-friend once said: Thritto. Or Quadritto. Be well and be good, and mostly be you. Thanks for your note on my talkpage. RFA sucks the life out of good editors, you went for it in good faith and are feeling kicked right now (the comments below certainly don't serve any useful purpose Cyclone, they come across extremely spiteful whether that was your intention or not. You should strike them. The RFA is over, stop kicking). You've made me a better editor, Eco, and I'm glad you're here and anticipate your return. Keeper ǀ 76 15:41, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am not going to take the same stand as those above. Your level of incivility both on-wiki and off-wiki is deeply concerning and you've shown great defensiveness in all you've done regarding your RfA. No one has made a personal attack against you like you've said in your withdrawal statement; instead, people have given valid reasons for opposing. What happened to WP:NOBIGDEAL? I hope you return, you are a good article builder, but I do not see you as an administrator on this project. —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 09:17, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cyclonenim, is this really needed or helpful or constructive at all? Doesn't seem so. Give Ecoleetage space to see what others have written both positive and negative - reflect on what is valid - and what is something else. To come here and reiterate what was obviously a sore subject needlessly seems quite uncivil. I think it's called rubbing salt in the wound. Please leave it be and let Ecoleetage learn whatever lessons there are in their own way. Banjeboi 09:41, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As someone who opposed this nomination, I must agree that this feels like rubbing salt in his wounds. Community building may not be our goal at Wikipedia, but we certainly do not kick good faith contributors when they're down. AniMate 09:48, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps not, sorry, but I am sick of people coming into RfA (an arena where obviously some bad things will come to light) and then going overboard at people's comments. He hasn't accepted one piece of critism during this whole event, instead, he replies to everyone saying why it isn't true. I take offence at being hostile when all I (and others) did were post our thoughts and opinions on the candidate. If Ecoleetage has simply accepted these comments and moved on, he would probably come out at the end of the RfA as an administrator. Nevermind, though, in future I hope he comes back, continues to do what he did before and just show a little more civility to others. If he does so, I'll happily support in future. Good luck. —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 10:44, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I kinda endorse Cyclonenim, even if his comments may rub a pinch of salt on Eco's wounds. I believe that users departing Wikipedia should by all means be made aware of how much they're appreciated in the project with as many friendly messages as we can pour in, but I also believe that it is even more important that users be honest with each other. And sometimes a bitterly tasting comment may be the most valuable advice. I find Eco an excellent, friendly user, and really hope he stays on Wikipedia. But if he does, he'll either have to understand why his RfA has failed, or attempt one never again. Húsönd 14:54, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In all honesty, I found out about Eco's withdrawing by coming to this page and seeing his note. The reason why I was coming was to warn him to tone it down some in his defensiveness. Overly vigorous defenses usually end up killing RfA's (see my essay on How to Pass an RfA.) I think Eco does a lot of good for the community and is a valuable asset. If he leaves for good, it will be a shame.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 15:45, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Thanks

[edit]

I hope you don't mind me replying (sorta reminds me of those emails you get that say "do not reply," but you weren't that explicit ). Anyway, I appreciate the thanks and regret that you had to withdraw because of the ugliness (to put it one way). It's good on your part, as you said on the withdrawal statement, to state "I have nothing positive to say and thus will say nothing." Wow, that's just such an awesome thing to do. Well, get some rest and enjoy the break. CL04:59, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies

[edit]

Hello! I just wanted to pass along my apology for disappointing you in my train wreck of an RfA (there is a scrap metal sale going on now, if you're interested). I am going on Wikibreak and I will let you know when or if I am back on the site -- I am trying to take time away to clear my thoughts and refocus on this and other priorities. Be well. Ecoleetage (talk) 05:10, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry that I started the derailment; you have nothing to be sorry for. Deletion is often a flashpoint area for admins, and I felt that you were a bit wide of the mark on my question. Hope you get on well on your break and hope to see you again soon.
For what it's worth, I'd have left the RFA to run as you were within the discretionary success area. Good luck next time. Stifle (talk) 08:43, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about your RfA

[edit]

Sorry to see you withdrew your RfA but I can understand your decision. Maybe your edit description summed it up best: it's not worth the bother. Hope to see you again on WP somewhere.    SIS  10:26, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am also sorry to see you feel that you have to leave. It can get very frustrating at times I understand. Maybe adminship isn't for you, I know its not for me as I am not tolerant or patient with such people. You can't win everybody's approval, its the same with me about 75% of people I've encountered on here seem to think very highly of me and probably think I'm a top editor on here and a funny guy, and about 25% seem to either think I'm arrogant or rude or not welcome in discussion because I'm not afraid to express my views. As I;ve said to others who think they have to leave, there are many editors who think a lot of you and I think the content and potential of site on a personal level far outweighs some of the wiki lawyers and loons we have on here. Take a week or two off and I hope to see you editing again as I feel you have a lot of potential, which as yet you were only getting started. However hostile some people may seem, remember you had 90 supports many of them strong supports with some very kind words towards you which is a reflection to how most people think of you. If you do what I do and accept the kindness of the people who approve of you and ignore the crap that comes your way it becomes a better place. Unfortunately on a site this size ther eis nothing we can do about people who feel indifferent to you but we have to learn to deal with it and concentrate on what the site is here for. Take care The Bald One White cat 11:47, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also sorry that the RfA didn't go well. I thought some of the opposes were awfully nitpicky in citing perceived problem with it. I hope it doesn't leave a bitter taste in your mouth toward WP. JeremyMcCracken (talk) (contribs) 13:54, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know you, I just happen to be watching QB's talk page at the moment. You sound pretty cut up about not getting Admin. Just remember what this site is actually about I am kind of new here (active account for six months). I never want to be admin why would you want that responsibility, I think the Admins know what they are doing and doing a great job. All I want to do is contribute to articles if I ever need an Admin they always help me out.--Theoneintraining (talk) 13:46, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re. Apologies

[edit]

Hello. :-) Like I told you, I deeply appreciate and applaud your recent actions. You did not have to apologize to everyone, but by doing so you clearly show that you have taken due consideration for the concerns presented by the other users, and that you do have a character that was not all that clear in your RfA. I hope you continue this way, and may always learn good lessons from all the bad moments you may experience on Wikipedia (we all have our less fortunate moments every now and then).

Now go to bed. Coz if you're in Portugal too I must warn you that daybreak will come in about 10 minutes. Better rush to bed before the damned birds wake up. Regards, Húsönd 05:00, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
