Orphaned non-free image File:Expendable Warriors Cover.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Expendable Warriors Cover.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:27, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for January 23
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Hughes Marino, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fortune (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:24, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Benjamin Nagengast
[edit]Hello Eastmain, thanks for helping with the Nagengast article. I will try to cover also the German Wikipedia although the scientists I´m writing about are working first and foremost in an international context. That´s the reason why I thought that information concerning these people would be more unseful on the English Wikipedia. Best Eberhard Graf Eberhard Graf (talk) 21:39, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

What's new?
The Collaboration team has announced the start of a new project: In-Context Help and Onboarding. The idea is to improve retention of new wiki editors by giving them short tutorials and other training experiences related to, and triggered by, their current activities on the wikis (that’s the “in context” part). The project follows from the conclusions of the New Editor Experiences research. The work is in its very early stages, but we’d like to hear from people with ideas on the subject—particularly if you have experience supporting or training new contributors.

- Preferences panel on Special:Notifications was overlapping other elements. This has been fixed. [35]
Future changes
- An important work is under progress to allow thanks of log entry. This is done by the Community Tech team. [36]
Structured discussions [More information • Help pages]
Recent changes
- Structured Discussions extension has been uninstalled from wikis not using it. However, it is still possible for a community to request a trial of Structured discussions. [37]
Problems
- It was not possible to opt-in and opt-out Structured discussions on wikis using it as a Beta feature. It is now fixed. [38]

New page reviewer granted
[edit]Hello Eastmain. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia; if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.
- URGENT: Please consider helping get the huge backlog down to a manageable number of pages as soon as possible.
- Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
- Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
- Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. ~ Amory (u • t • c) 20:28, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for your help in Dimmick Memorial Library -- you don't know much i appreciated that in keeping my post from deletion. It seems that i try to get my posts of my hometown started and get the ball rolling - my new stubs are on the Mauch Chunk Opera House --Mauch Chunk Lake and tryin the Carbon County Courthouse-- I grew up in Chunk and surprised that one branched out many of the historic buildings and places there. --My one on Col Jacob Weiss was way updated, but good to know i got the ball rolling. Stale draft
[edit]Greetings! I have been combing through stale userspace drafts, and came across one of yours: User:Eastmain/Don H. Doyle. As an article on the subject already exists and your draft contained no additional information of use, I have simply redirected it there. If you for some reason still want the draft, you are free to undo my revision, although I would encourage you to keep WP:NOTWEBHOST in mind if you do. Thanks! —Compassionate727 (T·C) 17:06, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018
[edit]ACTRIAL:
- WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.
Deletion tags
- Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.
Backlog drive:
- A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.
Editathons
- There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
Paid editing - new policy
- Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
Subject-specific notability guidelines
- The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
- Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
Not English
- A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.
News
- Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
- The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:23, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, you tagged this page with {{db-blank}}, but that falls under the criterion A3, which only applies to articles. If you see a completely blank page, especially out of mainspace, please check the history first. Chances are that either the author blanked it, in which case either U1 or G7 is probably applicable (as it was in this case), or someone else blanked it, in which case the content should be restored. Thanks, ansh666 06:39, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Ansh666: You're right. I typed {{db-blank}} because I thought that would be correct, but I see now that I should have used {{db-g7}} Eastmain (talk • contribs) 07:16, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Val da Camp
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Val da Camp requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. [edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Val da Camp, a page you have created yourself. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Contest this speedy deletion which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:National Police Cadet Corps Logo 2018.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:National Police Cadet Corps Logo 2018.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:02, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Thelegaldude (talk) 13:48, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- @TheLegalDude: If enough people think an article is intended as advertising, it is likely to be deleted, even if the topic is notable, and even if the article was not intended as advertising. You may want to read Wikipedia:Deletion_review, but I doubt that initiating a deletion review will change the outcome. Eastmain (talk • contribs) 23:39, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Hello Eastmain, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
- June backlog drive
Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.
- New technology, new rules
- New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
- Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
- Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.
- Editathons
- Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
- The Signpost
- The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. If you have special messages to be published, or if you would like to submit an article (one about NPR perhaps?), don't hesitate to contact the editorial team here.

My suggestions to you based on the ANI thread
[edit]Hi Eastmain, Thanks for your kind response to my Question at ANI. Unfortunately I do agree with a contributor there that you have not addressed the elephant in the room. Your reply to my comment mostly, focussed on pointing fingers at others. You also did not suggest any self restriction or improvement plan for your AfD contribution.
As I said No one is perfect, there are problems with S owls AfD contributions, I agree, And I also find there is much room to improve your AfD contribution. You value your efforts at AfD and would not want you to get banned from AfD for whatever reasons.
To avoid unnecessary Bad blood between a Deletionist vs an inclusionist, May I suggest to
- make a strict restriction on yourself to avoid making any comment on S Owl or problems with his editing behavior. Leave that for others to point out. your comments should only focus on the subject of the AfD and nothing else. No one wants to hear from you if S Owl followed WP:BEFORE in an AfD or not, etc etc. let others judge this. everyone wants to hear why you feel the subject deserves an article or not.
Secondly to improve the quality of your AfD contributions. ( I don't want to go deeper into each AfD, but enough has been pointed and I have seen some myself at AfD). I don't believe that this is an issue of WP:CIR what I believe is you are not giving enough time to do justice in deciding the Notability (per Policy) or lack of sufficient search on the subject.let me suggest some ways that you can follow (if you agree to them) to improve the quality of your AfD contributions.
- Go through all the WP:N policies once again to make sure you are up to date and fully aware of the "ever changing" notability policies.
- Make it a personal rule to "Always" quote a particular WP:N policy which is satisfied or is violated. along with the reason why exactly this condition is satisfied or violated. And also include the "strong" sources/refs for the same.
- To allow you to do more justice to the AfDs that you are contributing, reduce the number of AfDs that you comment per day to a number that you think you can contribute. (For me It is 5, I dont think i can devote enough time if I contribute more than 5 AfDs in a day.) that number may be different for you, but a single digit number is a good way to start with. You can propose that for X number of days (15, 30, 45, 60 whatever) you will comment on not more than Y AfDs.
- The X and Y above need not include the delsorting work at AfD that you do.
Decide over these suggestions and come up and Post at ANI on what you will be following. This will help improve your image at ANI that you genuinely are taking the critical comments in good faith and would like to improve over it. Please note that this is not a WP:BATTLE you will not loose anything by proposing such personal restrictions but will only win hearts at ANI.
Thats all I had to say, I am sure you know all of this already but I just felt i should re-iterate the same. I would love to see you continuing at AfDs. thank you. --DBigXray 16:48, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Villages in India
[edit]In 2006, I had my bot create 5000 articles on Indian towns and villages. That was from Census 2001 and it required some Python programming. Latest message for Collaboration team newsletter; Growth team's newsletter invite
[edit]Hello
Sorry to use English if that's not your favorite language.
You are receiving this message because you were reading the Collaboration team newsletter.
The Collaboration team doesn't longer exists. That team was working on building features that encourage collaboration. This is the latest message for that newsletter.
The Growth Team, formed in July 2018, supports some former Collaboration projects. The Growth Team's main objective is to ease new editors' first steps on wikis, through software changes. You can discover all objectives and missions of the Growth team on its page.
If you wish to be informed about Growth team's updates about easing new users first steps, you can subscribe to the new list to get updates. The first message from Growth –with a call for feedback on a new project– will be posted in a few days!
If you have questions or you want to share experiences made on your wiki about new users' first steps, please post them on the team talk page, in any language.

United Nations Framework Classification for Resources
[edit]Many thanks for stubbing this page. Most the text was intact original. How can get it back? Tharikrish 19:20, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Tharikrish: Normally, you could get the text from the article's history page at http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=United_Nations_Framework_Classification_for_Resources&action=history In this case, though, the earlier versions have been deleted as copyright violations. It is important to use your own words when writing an article for Wikipedia, even if you think the owner of the copyright wouldn't mind. Eastmain (talk • contribs) 22:07, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Eastmain Many thanks. I got the previous version now from the admin. Unfortunately the article had an image which has copyright issues. Being an open standard, it had to provide some verbatim statements. I will have see how this could be managed now. The standard is however a UN copyright, which is sad, since the statute of UN starts with the words "We the people ..." Tharikrish 22:35, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018
[edit]Hello Eastmain, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.
- Project news
- The New Page Feed now has a new "Articles for Creation" option which will show drafts instead of articles in the feed, this shouldn't impact NPP activities and is part of the WMF's AfC Improvement Project.
- As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.
- There are a number of coordination tasks for New Page Patrol that could use some help from experienced reviewers. See Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Coordination#Coordinator tasks for more info to see if you can help out.
- Other
- A new summary page of reliable sources has been created; Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources/Perennial sources, which summarizes existing RfCs or RSN discussions about regularly used sources.
- Moving to Draft and Page Mover
- Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
- If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
- Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
- The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
- The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.

Hello Eastmain, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
- Backlog
As of 21 October 2018[update], there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.
- Community Wishlist Proposal
- There is currently an ongoing discussion regarding the drafting of a Community Wishlist Proposal for the purpose of requesting bug fixes and missing/useful features to be added to the New Page Feed and Curation Toolbar.
- Please join the conversation as we only have until 29 October to draft this proposal!
- Project updates
- ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
- There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.
- New scripts
- User:Enterprisey/cv-revdel.js(info) — A new script created for quickly placing {{copyvio-revdel}} on a page.

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. |
Hello Eastmain,
- Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
- Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
- If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
- We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
- With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.
