Hi. More comments at the VPT thread, but i just wanted to add privately, that your site's floating footer bar is hovering over the 3-tab section. (In firefox). It doesn't affect any of the other pages on your site, that I could see. See Image:Colorpickerscreenshot.jpg. -- Quiddity (talk) 05:04, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption bot

[edit]

Hello there. I noticed that you run a bot and have used it in the past to help with adopt-a-user stuff. I was wondering if you might be able to repurpose it for this task:

I would like a bot to count the pages in Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user and update Template:Adoption backlog/count with that number, daily, or a few times per day if possible. Thanks in advance, xenocidic (talk) 20:51, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Or, how about {{PAGESINCATEGORY:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user}} = 27. :D Happymelon 21:09, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah ok you need to wait for the maintenance script to finish compiling the data table for en.wiki, but eventually it'll be a quick and easy way of doing this. Happymelon 21:10, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, thanks for the suggestion! xenocidic (talk) 22:07, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(refactored from WP bot requests as the suggested workaround doesn't seem to work)

Thank in advance! xenocidic (talk) 17:15, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Belgian local chapter

[edit]
  1. you're still interested by the process
    • yes
  2. you're only interested to become member or want to involve yourself in others tasks
    • difficult to say in advance: my time is a bit more limited than it was when I was in to this a few years ago.
  3. you know any information about current status not published on meta
    • No, it was some two or three years ago I occupied myself with this. I have some ideas about collaboration with the existing French and Dutch local chapters, but these ideas may well be outdated. As for people interested in this I don't know whether the people I met and was in contact with at the time would still be interested. I suppose most of the names of these people can still be found at meta.
  4. you can translate handle some Dutch or German translations from French or English
    • I can handle such things probably, whether I have much time for it is a different question.

Thanks for the invitation anyways! --Francis Schonken (talk) 08:07, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you
I've contacted each member listed on meta., the next step is to build a new userbase advertising the proposal on commons. en. fr. nl. and de.
Then, I'll launch a mailing list and plan a meeting on IRC to fix an agenda. See you later :) --Dereckson (talk) 08:35, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cristián Berríos

[edit]
Diego Grez has been cautioned for libel against Cristian Berrios, who has no account with his name in wikipedia. It is a personal pursuit against a person who does not appear in the records of wikipedia.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Images_of_Cristi%C3%A1n_Berr%C3%ADos_and_sockpuppets —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.202.110.170 (talk) 15:55, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm very sorry for this mistake. It were Killiondude who proposed the article for deletion per WP:PROD nomination, not Diego Grez.
Diego Grez have nominated for deletion the article on several other wikipedia (like de.), warned on IRC about copyvio problems on Commons pictures related to those articles + the sockpuppet problem, and then made on fr. a NfD using a wrong procedure (speedy deletion instead regular one).
But he doesn't made any move on en., as I today undestand he's being under editing restrictions. --Dereckson (talk) 12:21, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the explanation, I'm glad to hear this is what happened. --Floquenbeam (talk) 12:27, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Utilisateur:Dereckson/LiveRC.js, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.

If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your reasoning on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Orphaned non-free image File:Associação Escoteira Baden-Powell.gif/Fair use image

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Associação Escoteira Baden-Powell.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 05:05, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BOUML deletion request

[edit]

--af1n (talk) 21:02, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dereckson, please explain how can i improve the article so that it's possible to stop the deletion process. I think BOUML is a noted software,
a quick google yields at least several results comparing it to other open source UML software. Although we might not agree what constitutes encyclopedic knowledge
i think it's a matter current wikipedia practices. There are many UML diagram designers similar to BOUML that are not marked for deletion, like
Dia, StarUML, ArgoUML. Please explain to me the difference between these entries and BOUML. Are these going to be marked for deletion too ?

--af1n (talk) 01:25, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just added a few sources on Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#BOUML to establish BOUML notability, what do you think about them?

IRC cloaks

Yes, thank you. I was aware of that and I fixed it earlier this morning. Seems it has been full for a few days now. That will teach me to delete the new memos once we get them. :) --Filip (§) 19:47, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dedibox IP block

[edit]

Good evening,

{{{unblock-auto on hold | 1=Nishkid64 | 2={{blocked proxy}}: Dedibox | 3=88.191.128.151 | 4= | 5= referring matter to WP:OPP. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:25, 8 January 2011 (UTC)}}[reply]

Dedibox is a provider of dedicated servers active in France. See fr:Dedibox for more information. It mainly offers low cost dedicated servers.

  1. Only one IP address is generally assigned per machine, so individual blocks makes more sense than block the page.
  2. It's so not an open proxy at all and if some newbies rent a dedibox and configure it as an open proxy, there is another possibility: to block the IPs of such problematic machines, and not all the network.
  3. Furthermore, Dedibox have a strong policy against misuse of their service. Any people could lodge a complaint on this URL in English. Open relay is the first item. If the server owner doesn't reply to this complaint in 48 hours, the server is disconnected.

About me and a sample of a legitimate connection on dedibox network ... I'm a legitimate en. user and not someone using an open proxy, administrator on Wikimedia Commons and the French Wikipedia. My laptop is broken, so I've this week-end only a AMD 750 Mhz with 128 MB RAM. My solution to be able to work in good conditions were to rent a dedibox server and to perform a desktop installation, where I'm able to connect to using NX technology. This block so blocks my main workstation.

The IP exempt group doesn't seem to be a good solution, as you block a legitimate resource and a full IP range for several misconfigured servers, such remote desktop installations are more and more used (you can in 10 minutes have an Ubuntu with OpenOffice and Firefox reachable from anywhere) and alternative solution exists (see ttthe point 3). --Dereckson (talk) 20:12, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've referred this matter to our experts on these type of blocks:[1] Beeblebrox (talk) 21:30, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You have been granted an ip block exemption and should be able to edit now. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:53, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah Sir I agree with your comment that you posted in reply to my feed back, but the question is here what I should do to make my article Live "SolutionInn"? I posted Reference Links and External Links to verify the article. I'm in need of guidance. please do the needful. --BillMarz (talk) 10:04, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here an excerpt from the self promotion guidelines:
  1. Review your intentions. Wikipedia is not a space for the promotion of products, services, or websites. If you're here to tell readers how great something is, or to get exposure for an idea or product that nobody's heard of yet, you're in the wrong place.
  2. Don't make a new article for your own product or website. Most often, when a person creates a new article describing his or her own work, it's because the work is not yet well-known enough to have attracted anyone else's attention, much less reliable sources. Articles of this sort introduce conflicts of interest and are usually deleted. Wikipedia does indeed have articles about popular products and Web sites, but it is not acceptable to use Wikipedia to popularize them.
The reference links must be established and external sources of information, like newspaper articles or books speaking about SolutionInn.
--Dereckson (talk) 10:23, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I really appreciate your quick response, but sir I provided the link of Press Release that's telling about the "SolutionInn". Wikipedia can verify from there and the web link also provided therein. --BillMarz (talk) 11:05, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is it a press release emitted by SolutionInn ? If so, this press release wouldn't qualify as a press coverage by an independent source. --Dereckson (talk) 11:10, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok Sir, I got the Point, means if any news paper or press release will talk itself about SolutionInn then It could be Verified, right? I'm sorry I'm Taking too much time of yours but here is UserSpace page "User:BillMarz/SolutionInn" I provided all necessary things and modified the content according to the terms of Wiki, I request you to please visit that and check out if there is any objection other than "Verifiability" through News Papers or Press Release.--BillMarz (talk) 11:22, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I checked http://www.prlog.org/11879232-solutioninn-introduced-online-academic-assistance.html
A press release isn't an independant source of information, as it's written by the company itself.
So, no, it's not an admissible source. See Wikipedia:Third-party sources#Non-independent sources: 'Non-independent sources may not be used to establish notability.'. --Dereckson (talk) 12:29, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear I've already understood the point of "independent Source of Information" I'll provide that Source Soon. But my request was that I want you to check my UserSpace where I written the article and provided the references and External Links, so check and tell me the things that should be changed and/or modified according to the policy, other than Variability (Independent Source). I hope you'll reply me soon, my userspace is "User:BillMarz/SolutionInn" --BillMarz (talk) 05:51, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm Still Waiting for your kind reply Sir, --BillMarz (talk) 07:31, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AFC Backlog

Articles for Creation urgently needs YOUR help!

Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1277 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our Help Desk.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Are you autoconfirmed?
  5. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.

PS: we have a great AFC helper script at User:Timotheus Canens/afchelper4.js which helps in reviewing in just few edits easily!

We would greatly appreciate your help. Currently, only a small handful of users are reviewing articles. Any help, even if it's just 2 or 3 reviews, it would be extremely beneficial.

Hi! I didn't know I needed to do anything regarding the test Wiki at this time. What are the steps I need to do to get the test wiki working? Also I wanted to see how many native French speakers would be interested in helping- while I would be happy to do as much as I can to start the Wiki, I believe that eventually the native French speakers would take the leadership roles (I am currently FR-1) - There have been several who stated they are interested, so I'll contact them and do what I can to get the test wiki started WhisperToMe (talk) 01:41, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for creating Keesingia as a separate article. However, since the genus is monospecific, per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (fauna)#Monotypic taxa there should only be an article at the genus name, with the individual species being a redirect. As such, I have tagged Keesingia with {{db-move}}. I hope you understand. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 00:08, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you to have pointed this convention.
What should I do on Wikidata? I create a new item Wikimedia List article / list of <taxon> / has part <Keesingia>, <Keesingia gigas> to link this article? Or I put the link on the species? On the genus? --Dereckson (talk) 00:11, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question about WMFlabs "Translate" tool

[edit]

Hello Dereckson, I just saw your nice translation tool for inter-Wiki links on WMFlabs and have a few questions. WP:WikiProject Germany often uses the portal structure of de-Wiki portals to create similar portals on en-Wiki for German topic portals (e.g. de:Portal:Hessen in Portal:Hesse) Your tool would come in very handy, if it would also 1) accept portal pages or subpages as source 2) "translate" inter-Wiki links for portal links in the page as well (portal links are found in the source, but an existing portal in a different language is not listed, even if it exists in Wikidata). Would those additional functions be possible without too much work? That feature would be a great help in creating and maintaining those "German" portals on en-Wiki. Thank you for creating that nice tool and any advice, you can offer. GermanJoe (talk) 02:54, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GermanJoe,
So, to generalize the request, for (1) and (2), it would be convenient if the tool handles any namespace, for source or internal link? --Dereckson (talk) 03:38, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The more namespaces the tool can handle, the better it is of course. But if any namespaces (like template, module or other system namespaces) may cause trouble or can't be "translated" in a meaningful way, I'd simply exclude those namespaces. I haven't read the tool's source yet, you certainly know a lot more about it to decide that :). GermanJoe (talk) 04:16, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Too Like the Lightning, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page A Clockwork Orange. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Notice

The article Unicorn (web server) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable as it doesn't have significant coverage in reliable sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. wumbolo ^^^ 16:04, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Sidekiq

[edit]

Hello, Dereckson,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Sidekiq should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sidekiq .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,
