Try to fill in a few of the parameters in that citation template--it will make the citation look cleaner. Don't forget you also need to add a few sentences. As for sourcing, this particular one can verify that particular fact, sure--but usually we look for secondary sources, not government guidelines. Look for a decent study in Google Books, for instance. Dr Aaij (talk) 23:43, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
- Good--well done. But I don't think that reference came from a book, and don't be surprised if you get reverted--that website is run by the Cattlemen Beef Board, which is a trade organization for cattle farmers. Dr Aaij (talk) 03:02, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
--Aw poopie! Dr Aaij, so I really have to find a book to get such info. Is it because the Beef folks can been seen as "promoting " good health pratice even if they really do not use such pratice? Aporter90 (talk) 03:10, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
- Well, yes, but that doesn't mean you have to go to Books-A-Million tonight--God gave you Google Books for a good reason. Look for it. But I tell you (cause I just tried) that searching for "health veal" does not deliver much useful. It's better to look for something more specific or, going the other way around, looking at a decent book about the raising of cattle and finding a relevant thing that's not yet in the article. Hold on, and check the article in a few minutes. Dr Aaij (talk) 03:33, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
- Oh I'm good. That came from this search; there's a lot there about the more humane ways of raising veal. I note that in the article that is seriously underdeveloped: there is a lot to say about the history of raising veal, the animal abuse, and the things that legislators in the US and Europe have done to counter that. As for the Cattlemen--yeah, they are so far from neutral they couldn't spell the word. That's fine--they're a trade organization (a friend of mine works for them) and their business is to promote the industry. Dr Aaij (talk) 03:40, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
---Dr Aaij, I did a search of Google books too, (I am a Bing user...) and it is kinda hard to find anything on just health. I figured veal would be a sorta easy topic, since I have raised calves and know how to raise good nice cows. But it does seem that this article has a huge content gap...I was using the Citation Hunt tool and fell into this rabbit (or should I say veal?) hole. Can I play devils advocate and leave my little bit of contirbution and actually work on humane ways to raise veal in my box of sand; and then once it is all nice and not so sandy put it into the main article with all the good references? --Aporter90 (talk) 03:58, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
- Sure, but you know, you don't have to do that much just to fulfill the assignment for tomorrow; you could try Google News to find something recent on the topic. (Bing doesn't have those options, which is one reason why I don't use it.) However, the article does need some help yes. As for Bing, &*^%&*(_*_(*)*&(^%%%^^*% Bing. And now I'm hungry for some escalope de veau. Dr Aaij (talk) 04:46, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
- OK, you're going to have to do a bit more to get credit for the copy editing assignment. Dr Aaij (talk) 04:44, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
- I know, Dr Aaij, I've got the attention span of a 2 year old. I've been looking for different articles I am working on it. But I am slowwwwww! --Aporter90 (talk) 15:38, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
- OK, look left, up, and click "Random article". Look, first click. Dr Aaij (talk) 04:07, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- Second click. Dr Aaij (talk) 04:12, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- And three! Dr Aaij (talk) 04:14, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- Dr Aaij, I promise I do use that! I manage to get obscure Iran towns or soccer players. I have found some that look good to me. Maybe I am not over analyzing them! Aporter90 (talk) 04:23, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- What can I say--I have a magic touch. Yes, I frequently get Iranian soccer players etc. Did you know Miami Vice is still on TV? Dr Aaij (talk) 04:27, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- Dr Aaij, TV is a magical land just like the interwebs! I have tried to watch it on Amazon Fire Stick, but can not get into it. Although, Lethal Weapon (both the old ones and the new ones) is pretty good. I guess the over played "Miami drug scene" is not my cup of tea....how are we on this anyways??? Aporter90 (talk) 04:54, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- I was obviously watching TV when I was typing this. I can't remember the name of the episode, but it had Miles Davis in it. Dr Aaij (talk) 03:52, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

- Hmm yeah, I'm not feeling it. I looked around a bit, but I don't see much. If something is on the national list of historic places, then it's pretty much notable by virtue of being listed; for this home, --- wait I take that back. OK, this helps with notability (look around on WP:N). What's problematic though is that I find nothing in Google Books, and you really need that to generate content. - OK, I assume you saw The Ed's copy edits, and his comments. You certainly have something here that will get on front page in the DYK section (right, The ed17?) but I'm just not sure this will generate enough writing to count, for instance, as an essay, lengthwise. Dr Aaij (talk) 03:37, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
- Dr Aaij, What if I did another cool dead guy? Like George W Hooker.....hes got some cool info on him....have you ever singlehandedly captured 116 confederate soldiers?--Aporter90 (talk) 03:44, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
- No, but the other day I destroyed racism in one single tweet. Also, Ed is a Yankee, so he'll appreciate that. If you produce multiple articles and they add up enough, that'll be fine. Dr Aaij (talk) 03:54, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
- Ok awesome!!! I will get started on George. I'd perfer to do articles on Rebs seeing as how I was born in the best state ever (Texas) but Yanks win with the wild stories I have found so far. Thank you Dr Aaij. --Aporter90 (talk) 04:02, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

- Your article is nominated. Now, I'd like for you to check out WP:DYKRULES, and I want you to look at Wikipedia:Did you know/Reviewing guide. On that page where your nomination is at, you'll find tons more. Pick an easy one, if you can, and see if you can review it following the guidelines in the Reviewing guide; it's kind of a checklist, really. Ask me if you have technical questions. People like The ed17, Godsy, Gerda Arendt, Mandarax, Kelapstick, LadyofShalott, Xanthomelanoussprog, and Mandarax also know a lot about DYK requirements and editing and they're good people. I won't ask them to do the review for you, but they can point to things I may have forgotten or won't explain cause I'm too lazy. Warning: Kelapstick is Canadian, and "Xanthomelanoussprog" is impossible to spell, so just copy and paste. Gerda owes me one since I just hooked her up with a reference for a Dutch violin player. :) Dr Aaij (talk) 18:31, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- Well, Doc, as for pointing out things you may have forgotten.... While you correctly state on the nomination that "Aporter90 need not do a review", it is actually the nominator who is responsible for the QPQ review. Of course, it's perfectly acceptable for you to ask Aporter90 to do it as an educational exercise. For everything to proceed smoothly and amicably, I hope this goes through within the next 28 days. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 19:45, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- Dear old Mandarax, you're right, I suppose, cause you always are, but on this account I only have two DYKs, haha. Alright, but Ms. Porter is going to do one anyway since I'm the teacher and I can do whatever I want. :) Dr Aaij (talk) 22:17, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
Dr Aaij, THANK YOU!!!!! BEST TEACHER EVER!!!! :) fingers crossed that it makes the cut! --Aporter90 (talk) 18:40, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- Ha, damn straight. Make sure you tell the chair/dean/chancellor. Those donuts...I'm tempted to upload the image and use it for a barnstar. Dr Aaij (talk) 19:28, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

- Dr Aaij!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! --Aporter90 (talk) 18:34, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
- Have you sent and received the permission email? Don't panic. Dr Aaij (talk) 04:36, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
- Dr Aaij, so there is a new tag on my picture that Godsy put on there I am assuming? I have no idea what it means......--Aporter90 (talk) 00:03, 4 March 2017 (UTC)
- I applied the {{keep local}} template so that a local copy of the file is retained even if it happens to get moved to commons in the future. I did this so it remains in our jurisdiction and I (or anyone else who edits locally) can keep an eye on it more easily. I commonly do this with some of the files I upload as well (e.g. here). — Godsy (TALKCONT) 00:51, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

DYK review
[edit]Sorry, but that review was not adequate--and even if it were, you need to say explicitly that you checked the individual points. For instance, there are "cn" tags in the article, and that means the article isn't good to go. So follow the guidelines, and if there are item were it's lacking, note them. Thanks, Dr Aaij (talk) 02:01, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
- Properties on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage by county (DeKalb–Jackson). Drmies (talk) 16:30, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Dr Aaij, Does JANAE2290 have to meet the QPQ before I can give her the green check? I figured out how to check the "earwig" and she is good on the no copyright violation. --Aporter90 (talk) 18:14, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, she needs to do the QPQ before you can check it. (Psst, don't say that out loud--since it's her first one she wouldn't really have to do it, and since I nominated I should really have to do it, but I'm going with my own rules here; I want her to do one, just like I wanted you to do one, and I'll oversee them just to make sure.) Drmies (talk) 18:54, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
- Drmies, Ok well I did do a review if you would like to look at it. I didnt give it a green check I gave it one of those "?" things. --Aporter90 (talk) 19:36, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Dr Aaij, I have a question.....https://tools.wmflabs.org/copyvios/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&title=George+W.+Hooker&oldid=&action=search&use_engine=1&use_links=1&turnitin=0.....is this a problem? I really dont know how to reword this. --Aporter90 (talk) 18:31, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hmm, I think that's all just totally minor; these are mostly titular phrases. The ed17, what do you think? Drmies (talk) 18:53, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
- Dr. Ostrich, (You like what I did there? :D) I didnt think it would be a big deal I just wanted to be super sure before I go off to the DYK section. I had another question but I can not think of it right now. Aporter90 (talk) 19:36, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Incomplete DYK nomination
[edit]Hello! Your submission of Template:Did you know nominations/George W. Hooker at the Did You Know nominations page is not complete; if you would like to continue, please link the nomination to the nominations page as described in step 3 of the nomination procedure. If you do not want to continue with the nomination, tag the nomination page with {{db-g7}}, or ask a DYK admin. Thank you. DYKHousekeepingBot (talk) 12:04, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
DYK for George W. Hooker
[edit]On 18 March 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article George W. Hooker, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that George W. Hooker captured a Confederate troop detachment, consisting of 116 men and their colonel, all by himself? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/George W. Hooker. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, George W. Hooker), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DYK for James Sullivan (Medal of Honor)
[edit]On 18 March 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article James Sullivan (Medal of Honor), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Peter Van Hoesen, an American Civil War deserter, was paid $300 to enlist by a drafted man, and performed a Medal of Honor-worthy deed at Fort Fisher in 1864 for which he got no credit? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/James Sullivan (Medal of Honor). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, James Sullivan (Medal of Honor)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. [edit]Thanks for creating Poems on Slavery, Aporter90!
Wikipedia editor Innisfree987 just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:
Thanks so much for your contributions--if you don't mind my saying, it's one of the best WikiEd contributions I've encountered. There may still be room for expansion (I see some useful suggestions on the talk page) but this is really a wonderful contribution. Thanks! Innisfree987 (talk) 22:54, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
