Invitation to WikiProject Women in Red
[edit]Hello Ali Beary! Thank you for your contributions to articles related to women. I would like to invite you to WikiProject Women in Red, a WikiProject focused on creating entries for women's biographies and related topics and assisting contributors who run into difficulties. If you wish to participate, you can sign up under "New registrations", or feel free to ask for assistance on our talk page any time. Thanks again for your contributions! asilvering (talk) 18:48, 20 October 2024 (UTC) |
- Hi Ali, sorry your first-article experience was rough. I closed the AfD as a redirect, so your work is still there, just hidden (see [1]), and if you end up finding more sources some day, you can spin it back out into a separate article again. I can't answer your question about the redlink beyond "sometimes, people put them places where they shouldn't", I'm afraid. I really recommend that you join WiR - many, many editors there have had similarly disappointing first experiences, and they're there to help. There's sure to be someone you're interested in who is notable and doesn't have an article yet, and they have lots of redlists to help you find one. Good luck! -- asilvering (talk) 18:55, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
George Washington edit - please read
[edit]Your edit to George Washington is throwing a Harv error. Please correct it and ADD the Hamilton book. The Randall/Hamilton is still not listed correctly in the cited sources for this article, I assume because you've included "ref=none".
I don't know if you have this script installed but if Harv error isn't ringing a bell for you, go to User:Ucucha/HarvErrors and consider following the instructions there to install that script - User:Ucucha/HarvErrors.js on your common.js page. - Shearonink (talk) 19:23, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- Went ahead and fixed it myself. Hope that's alright. - Shearonink (talk) 21:11, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
GAN reviews: immediate attention needed
[edit]Ali, hi, the two reviews you've begun on my GANs of Strawberry and Mandarin orange are not sufficient to meet the requirements for the GA process. I've placed a brief explanation at Talk:Mandarin_orange/GA1#Good_Article; obviously the full instructions are at WP:GAI, the GA instructions page. This needs your immediate attention, or the reviews will be discarded. Many thanks for your assistance. Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:20, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, my apology. I didn't realize that there was something specific to follow. I'll get to the reviews when I can. Thanks, @Chiswick Chap! Ali Beary (talk) 15:32, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Many thanks, glad to hear it. You can lay out your GA review pretty much how you like, but the key is to show that you have checked the article against the criteria. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:41, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for Mandarin orange; awaiting Strawberry. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:29, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Could you send the link to the Strawberry article, Chiswick Chap? I don't know how to access previous GA reviews of mine, sadly... Ali Beary (talk) 12:39, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's Talk:Strawberry/GA2, also always accessible from the article's ordinary talk page Talk:Strawberry. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:42, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Great, thanks! Ali Beary (talk) 12:55, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if you know that you actually didn't close either of the GANs; it's a modest bit of a faff doing it manually as it involves several steps on different pages, but is well automated by the script called "GANReviewTool", as is mentioned in the GA instructions. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:08, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, Chiswick Chap. Unfortunately, I do not believe I can complete the GA review for Strawberry. My apologies. Ali Beary (talk) 05:31, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- OK, but could you please mark Mandarin orange as a GA pass? The GANReviewTool makes this a quick and simple operation. If even that seems too much, then at least write that you are now satisfied at the bottom of your review and I guess I can run the bot for you without getting too much stick for it! All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:16, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, despite the fact I've downloaded the script, it won't let me run it. If you could do so, that'd be great. Thank you! Ali Beary (talk) 13:14, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- Done... fingers crossed. Thanks for your work, and I hope whatever is taking up your time is speedily resolved. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:19, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

- I unfortunately do not have the ability to protect an article, as I am not an administrator on this wiki. I just hope that very few people are misinformed so me and other editors on Wikipedia do not have to struggle reverting edits and arguing with people. I'll try to request a temporary protection over the page. Thank you! Ali Beary (talk) 14:35, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Ali Beary. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Thayne Jasperson, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:34, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- What? Cordless Larry, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m a simple fan just trying to write about stuff I’m interested in. I do not have any form of relationship with Thayne Jasperson. I also don’t know what I’m supposedly advertising. Care to elaborate? Ali Beary (talk) 00:45, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- I was just concerned that you'd included unsourced personal details in the article, which can often be a sign that someone has a conflict of interest with the subject as they know that information because of their personal connection. If you don't know Jasperson and all of that information came from published sources, that's fine, but please do provide references in future (see WP:BLP). Cordless Larry (talk) 08:49, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- I did source the personal details. His sexuality, religion, confidence, and his loving of the Wyoming Cowboys all came from references. Ali Beary (talk) 12:56, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Cordless Larry, the promotional edit war is ongoing. The article is just shitty, full of personal and irrelevant fluff, and I do not believe in that supposed Tony, which also lacks verification. 199.80.8.254 (talk) 19:11, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Uhm, ouch? Could you try to at least be nicer..? Ali Beary (talk) 19:19, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

December 2024
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Thayne Jasperson, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:34, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry Cordless Larry, guess I got carried away adding stuff, haha. Also, no need to welcome me. I appreciate it, but I'm not new. :) Ali Beary; (talk) 18:39, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- No problem (and sorry, the welcome is just part of the template for the message). Cordless Larry (talk) 18:42, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- No worries! Apologies for my original research, and thank you for helping me out. Have a nice day! Ali Beary; (talk) 18:56, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- No problem (and sorry, the welcome is just part of the template for the message). Cordless Larry (talk) 18:42, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Please also note that statements about what isn't known (e.g. "No upcoming projects of Jasperson's are known") also require sources establishing that that's the case. It might just be that you haven't found a source that discusses his upcoming projects, and to infer from the fact that you've not found such a source that it's unknown is original research. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:55, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, alright. I am in the process of adding new sources, so I'll be sure to find stuff for that too. Thanks! Ali Beary; (talk) 18:59, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
