Information icon Hello, I'm CFA. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Liberty Village, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. C F A 💬 21:08, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why would it need a reference? Is there a reference for the claim of men and women walking down the street? 65.93.101.75 (talk) 21:35, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, actually. The reference attached to that claim (https://web.archive.org/web/20230307104849/http://www.urbancentre.utoronto.ca/pdfs/researchbulletins/CUCSRB32-WieditzJan07.pdf) reads:
"Both the Mercer Reformatory and the Central Prison faced onto Liberty Street, so it was the first street women or men would set foot on after serving their sentences in the correctional facilities."
Wikipedia is based on reliable sources. If reliable sources don't state a claim, then it is original research which isn't allowed. Please see Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. C F A 💬 21:54, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But there were nonbinary people too, taking away from that is LGBTQ+ erasure. 65.93.101.75 (talk) 21:59, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if you have a source that states that, feel free to include it. C F A 💬 22:00, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you suggesting that nonbinary people did not exist back then? I don't understand. 65.93.101.75 (talk) 08:48, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. I've said multiple times that Wikipedia is based on what reliable, secondary sources say. The reference cited said "it was the first street women or men would set foot on". If you have a reference to support your claim, feel free to edit the article to include it. Anything else is original research and synthesis. If you have any other questions, the Teahouse is always open. C F A 💬 14:32, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes but what about Wikipedia's inclusivity policy? Some of these articles are woefully out of date with modern science and understandings and need to be rewritten. 65.93.101.75 (talk) 03:44, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah... and you can rewrite them... with citations to reliable sources. C F A 💬 16:36, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is generally understood that sources back then were ignorant to modern gender science. Does that not make them unreliable then? 65.93.101.75 (talk) 10:58, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, it does not. Regardless, that paper was only published in 2007. C F A 💬 16:18, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I did not mean to. Please forgive me, just adding what I heard. I am originally from Somalia and this is all new to me. 65.93.101.75 (talk) 09:57, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
