Image of aircraft involved in the accident

[edit]

Which image do you guys think is the one we should use for the aircraft involved in the accident? I believe picture #1 should be used because it is the better quality version and shows the aircraft registration and is also the most recently taken picture on wikimedia commons.

@Ivebeenhacked believes picture #2 is a better one to use, however it doesn’t show the registration on it. Although it doesn’t require it to be visible, it should be included because it can confuse readers. When you look at other plane crash articles, they all show the registration on the aircraft involved. Take some examples such as Tenerife Airport Disaster, which shows the reg for both aircrafts involved. And the more recent Jeju Air Flight 2216 and Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243 accidents which both show the reg.

Pictures 3 and 4 are much better quality than the other 2 photos of the same aircraft. However, the photos were taken a long time ago, so it may not be suitable to use them.

Let us know which one you think we should use by replying to this message with the one you think we should use and include a reason for your choice.

I see no good reason why we need to change the image. We don't necessarily need to see the registration of the aircraft. Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 03:25, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Although we don’t necessarily need to see the reg, there is no reason to oppose a change to an image that includes the reg. It doesn’t hurt anything at all. It would be very useful to have it there, since the caption says “HB-JCD, the aircraft involved in the accident” when we can’t even see it. Also, the first image has a better quality compared to the second one. If we want to have even better quality, we could use one of the last 2 images of the aircraft, even though they are 6 years old. I see no good reason to oppose the change. We don't need to see the registration, but it also doesn't hurt. Each of the suggestions works for me. MaligneRange (talk) 10:07, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
