Merge/Redirect or Clean up?

[edit]

It seems that, right now, little is known about the Nintendo Network, and as such, I'm constantly just removing unsourced personal speculation, or the speculation of fansites and random blogs. As such, I feel like it should be merged/redirected until there's more verified information.

Alternatively, if we do decided to keep the article as is, I think it either needs to be "protected" to some degree, and changed around. For instance, you don't see running lists of supported games on the Playstation Network article. They're either made separate lists articles (not recommended yet) or made as a category or something.

Thoughts? Sergecross73 msg me 18:52, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cloud Storage

[edit]

I'm unsure how to edit that table properly but cloud storage with 512 MB per user account for save files and profiles was announced back in may. http://www.slashgear.com/nintendo-wii-u-will-have-cloud-storage-15228468 ViperEmpire (talk) 18:27, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done! Thanks for the reference. Have been looking for that for quite some time. Thanks :D--Arkhandar (talk) 22:02, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Much appreciated, Arkhandar. ViperEmpire (talk) 04:17, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nintendo TVii

[edit]

It's already marked as needing expansion, but the section about Nintendo TVii in this article is shorter than the paragraph about it in the Wii U article (yet the paragraph in the Wii U article says that the section in this article is the main article). Miiverse article split

[edit]

There are several outlets praising the ingenuity of Miiverse by itself and many of them claim it as one of the Wii U's best-selling point. I really suggest we should split the Miiverse section into its own article now. Hope(N Forever) (talk) 15:51, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It still doesn't contain that much coverage to have the need for its own article.--Arkhandar (talk) 16:40, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's a big, multi-platform social network. I also think it should get its own article. (one year later...) - Sforzando (talk) 23:36, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi~ Someone changed the consoles Miiverse is comparatale with, adding Xbox, and NES, as well as an un-sourced release date for the 3DS. --Sean (talk) 06:06, 15 December 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.39.129.251 (talk) [reply]

Italic title

[edit]

I question whether this article's title should be in italics, per WP:ITALIC. The articles that use the same infobox type such as Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network also don't use italics. However, this article doesn't appear to have {{italic title}} written in it (although I may be missing something here), so I'm not sure what's going on with that. DarkToonLink (talk) 10:32, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That's two of us now. Since the article's inception I have no idea of how to change it to a normal font type.--Arkhandar (talk) 13:39, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really understand because if it was automatically done by the infobox or something, then why isn't it in those other articles? I tried checking out the page for that template but it didn't really say anything about it. It seems you've looked into this as well, so maybe we should just ask at the WP:HelpDesk or WP:Teahouse. One thing that could be used though, is the Template:DISPLAYTITLE, and then just write it without italics. {{DISPLAYTITLE:Nintendo Network}}. Actually, this is something I just tried to do to List of Nintendo Direct presentations so that Nintendo Direct is italicised, but 'List of' and 'presentations' was not, but it didn't seem to work. I'll go try using it here now, but otherwise I might just seek help somewhere. Thanks, DarkToonLink (talk) 23:50, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well I tried previewing all this crazy stuff ({{DISPLAYTITLE:namespace:fullpagename:Nintendo Network}}) and it didn't seem to work, so I'm going to seek help somewhere, I'll check back here if I get an answer. DarkToonLink (talk) 00:07, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is solved, thanks to Wilhelm meis! It turns out that it was because of the infobox about Nintendo Direct further down the page. Thanks, DarkToonLink (talk) 03:35, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Glad I could help! Wilhelm Meis (☎ Diskuss | ✍ Beiträge) 03:39, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Swapnote

[edit]

Referenced content has been removed repeatedly by Arkhandar (talk · contribs) multiple times. In the reports, the phrase "わいせつ画像送受信" (transmission of obscene imagery) is used, which refers to pornographic imagery, and not simply any kind of "offensive material". Nintendo is a Japanese company, and any actions the company takes is more better documented in Japanese sources, and this includes news reports, legal statements, police reports, and official announcements. "offensive material" is vague, and can refer to insults, racism, and the like, all of which are not as serious, and do not carry as much of a heavier connotation than "pornographic imagery". Don't whitewash and blank content simply because you might not like it, or that it doesn't conform with the way you like things; this is becoming borderline disruptive editing behaviour. It is poor form to downplay and sugar-coat it with scare quotes and lightened euphemistic terms such as "offensive material" like a Nintendo marketing team in damage control mode. Wikipedia is not censored, even though some people might not like certain things that are being said. --benlisquareTCE 15:09, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

the new miiverse redesign

[edit]

there's a redesign coming on the 29th and there are LOTS of people who are angry about it. however, there are people who are supporting the update, like me. i'm the leader of the support side. join me and we shall protect the update! go trio team! Valehd (talk) 21:02, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not the place to push for advocacy. Please stop this. Sergecross73 msg me 21:53, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
ok, well i'm just saying that the redesign should be added here Valehd (talk) 22:19, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. The redesign is definitely noteworthy enough to be in the article. --BenM64 (talk) 22:21, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, it should absolutely be covered, just in a neutral, encyclopedic manner, not a "let's rally up people who support or decry this update" sort of way, like Vale said. Sergecross73 msg me 23:19, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
the part should say "on july 29th, there will be a new redesign. this is the biggest update ever and has caused many so-called "problems" with certain users. however, there is a club called "Trio Team" supporting the redesign." Valehd (talk) 02:24, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Unless third party reliable sources (like IGN or Eurogamer, for example) are covering things like this "Trio Team", then no, it does not belong in the article. Sergecross73 msg me 03:23, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
wow, big insult that trio team can't even be mentioned. i guess it should say "on july 29th, there will be a new redesign. this is the biggest update ever and has caused many so-called "problems" with certain users." Valehd (talk) 19:53, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's not an insult, its just a basic rule of the website. Write according to what reliable sources can verify. If sources don't report on something, then neither do we. That applies to everyone and everything, not just you and your group. Sergecross73 msg me 20:38, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Miiverse Clones

[edit]

The user MyNameJeff69420linux edited the miiverse clones section off of the page, and is most definitely a user from one of the clones. This is a warning to undo their edits here as they are no doubt a vandal. A few of the users of one of the miiverse clones weren't happy about the addition of this section to the page. This is just a warning that they may be back soon, possibly under a different name or the same one. Either way, they signed up just to vandalize this page. Werdenfeizer (talk) 21:03, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

First, article talk pages aren't the place to report vandalism. Second, you have not established the notability of Closedverse other than "it has around 9000 users." The only source you have provided is the site itself, which is insufficient. You have not demonstrated that this Miiverse clone has been covered by any reliable sources. Wikipedia isn't the place to promote websites, and given that your edits have only been to this article, I am inclined to believe that you just signed up just to promote Closedverse. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 21:12, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Shutdown timezone consensus - PDT, UTC, or JST? (April 8 or April 9?)

[edit]

Wanted to try to establish some consensus here about the timezone we'll be using for the discontinuation date. I'm in the 'use UTC' camp, others appear to be in the 'use PDT' camp, and ofc this has an impact on whether or not the article says April 9 or April 8 - and I don't think anyone wants an edit war to happen.

Looking at MOS:TIMEZONE, it says to use the timezone most relevant to where the event happened - but, it was a global event, hence why I consider UTC to be appropriate. However, seeing as Nintendo is a Japanese company, there is the argument that using JST would be more appropriate instead. However, I doubt that PDT is the right timezone to use for this event.

So, I wanna hear everyone else's thoughts on the matter, and see if we can all come to a definitive consensus on which one to use (so this conversation doesn't end up repeating itself in the future). 🔥HOTm̵̟͆e̷̜̓s̵̼̊s̸̜̃🔥 (talkedits) 12:10, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree on UTC, since this happened worldwide. If this was only localized to Japan or NA or even Europe, the respective local time zones would make sense but that's not the case here TappyTurtle [talk | contribs] 03:21, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Including a mention of the final players

[edit]

@Quetstar: This isn't a super significant detail, so if you disagree I'll let it rest, but I personally think that mentioning the fact players still managed to play past the shutdown date is a detail worth mentioning. Mentioning Lcd by name? Maybe not, but something as simple as "Some players managed to stay online past the shutdown for several days." is not harmful to include. There's adequate sourcing for something like this to be included as well, so I wouldn't say it's "insufficiently notable." Feel free to disagree, though. λ NegativeMP1 17:04, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree because it was not sufficiently covered (only 2 sources discussed this). I would have let it stand if more sources covered it. Quetstar (talk) 22:52, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The way I view is that the article right now implies the servers shut down on that EXACT moment, when it did not on any game. I feel as if having the article imply that is objectively incorrect. And one to two sources is plenty enough to back up that the server's didn't instantly shut down, in my opinion. λ NegativeMP1 23:16, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree in that in the grand scheme of things, noting that some players were able to stay connected for a little while is not important. The online service is gone. It would be the same as saying "The party ended at 7pm but some people lingered before getting kicked out." The general reader cares more about what day the online service was officially shut down. It could be countered if there is sufficient verifiable context, for example online multiplayer shutdowns have always been "instant" and Nintendo Network is the one exception. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 23:31, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We've got another source on the final players, this one documenting the final six and not just Lcd. I feel like we could narrowly allow a brief mention at this point, but that's up to y'all. [1] λ NegativeMP1 04:37, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We could also maybe include this as an explanatory footnote, like:
On January 23, 2024, Nintendo announced that the service would specifically shut down at 00:00 UTC on April 9, 2024. The servers were shut down at 02:00 UTC on that day.{{efn|Some players remained online for several days after the official shutdown date.}}
...or something like that. But this may still be WP:TOOMUCH. TappyTurtle [talk | contribs] 04:16, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
