Dear Italy experts: This old AfC page was never submitted to be added to the encyclopedia, and now it is slated to be deleted as a stale draft. Is this notable topic, and should it be kept and improved instead? —Anne Delong (talk) 02:36, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
- My two cents as an Italian are that I have never in my life heard anyone mentioning the "Democratic Party of Tuscany". The DP, as all its predecessors dating back to the Communist Party, and as (most) other parties, are nation-level entities, and regional subdivisions are irrelevant. Of course there is a Tuscany "section" of the DP, with its website, its members, its sections, its festivals and so on. It is an interesting fact that Tuscany is a "red" region (like others mentioned in the page), and it is possibly interesting that many of its governors/presidents where from Tuscany and "red", but I think this might be covered in the Tuscany section, if it isn't already. Moongateclimber (talk) 07:59, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, Moongateclimber, for checking this out. The draft appears abandoned, and will soon be deleted, so if there's any useful content that anyone here thinks should be moved to Democratic Party (Italy) or another related article, this is the time to do it. —Anne Delong (talk) 04:47, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

Help with Naples article
The Naples article is mostly good, except for three subsections – the Cinema and television section, the Literature and philosophy section, and the Theatre section. These are basically just lumps of incoherent text, written (I think) by an Italian with almost no grasp of the English language. They include a lot of useful wikilinks, but are so badly written and unstructured that they are of little use to readers. They are also completely unsourced.
I have done a lot of work on the article, but these subsections leave me at a loss – in some parts of them, I genuinely don't know what the original editor was trying to say. I have been tempted to delete them completely, but that would leave the article lacking a lot of coverage on Neapolitan culture. I am requesting someone (preferably with some knowledge of Neapolitan culture) to help me clean up these subsections and find reliable sources for them. Thanks. – Michaelmas1957 (talk) 03:58, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

- At a glance it looks basically good, and certainly good enough to be moved to article space without further ado. As it is essentially a translation from the Italian Wikipedia, attribution will be needed: as indeed the author already knows. I don’t know what the currently recommended way of doing this is, however. (Most editors don’t bother to do it at all, which is a bit of a disgrace.)
- The short verse by Vico Faggi will need to be translated (or else removed), and the whole thing would benefit from copy-editing, since the English is not always quite idiomatic. (In the caption to the second image, for instance, ‘municipality’ is awkward as a translation for municipio, because that word is normally employed—especially in American English—to translate comune, which is a higher level of the local government hierarchy.) But this sort of thing can be dealt with later. Finally, the author, User:Tomias80, should certainly be thanked for his/her diligent work and encouraged to do do more of it!Ian Spackman (talk) 11:10, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Started a RfC: the last few years of the page have seen one complaint after another about how awful the article is; I started an improvement; almost immediately, it degenerated into an edit war.
So, with the knowledge that this stirs up POVy passions we need to work past, we could use some guidance:
- IN ENGLISH, should "Italian dialects" describe
- A non-recognized languages like Venetian or
- B only regional flavors of Standard Italian?
- IN ENGLISH, should "Italian dialects" describe
Comment here. Answer A should mean some version of my edits (listing major Italian varieties of Gallo-Romance and Italo-Dalmatian) should be kept; answer B should mean that the existing page we've got should be merged with languages of Italy. In that case, we'll need help rebuilding it; and (in any case) we could use better sources. — LlywelynII 12:37, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

- Do you really mean to deny that Florence is the French for Florentia? Whether it's worth saying is another question, but English does use Florence, Rome, Milan, Venice because French does. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 19:51, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- I've seen sources that have the etymology for the given name go straight from Florentia to medieval English. Of course, French influence was all over the place back then, so the line may be hard to draw. Do you know of any sources that discuss the etymology of the city name in English? Also, on the your second point, would you object to its removal on relevance (or other) grounds? Dohn joe (talk) 20:16, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- However, English uses Tyrol. Septentrionalis PMAnderson

Help finding sources?
Hi! I'm working on an article for the Italian director Mario Landi. I'm having a bit of trouble, as his stuff was never really brought to the United States and as such, the sources are entirely in Italian for the most part. I don't speak any Italian and Google translate can only do so much, especially since most of the things I'm finding can't be translated into English. (Book entries, etc.) I'm also running into issues with sources as the bulk of his work was made before the advent of the Internet, so if anyone knows where to look for anything along those lines, I'd be incredibly grateful. I have a copy in my userspace, so if anyone is so inclined to help with it, feel free to edit it at your leisure. (User:Tokyogirl79/Mario Landi) I've just really hit the limit of what I could personally do with the article, but I hate to delete it since he seems to be fairly notable in Italy. Popular pages tool update
As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).
Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.
If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:12, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
I removed a proposed deletion notice from the article Craxism because the Italian article on the same topic, it:Craxismo, appears to be substantial and sourced, and from what I could tell, can at least arguably sustain a separate article from our biographical article about Bettino Craxi. However, as the editor who prodded it correctly noted, the English language article is not in very good condition at the moment. Review by editors having greater facility than I do in Italian (and Italian sources) would be most appreciated. --Arxiloxos (talk) 00:54, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
Quartetto Cetra
Hi Italy,
Can anyone please help improve Quartetto Cetra (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) in any way, even small. I have just discovered this group, and I think it is a fascinating subject - but the article is very poor; it is highly non-neutral, and totally unreferenced. So, that's it... a humble request, if anyone could please help improve the article on this rather ancient Italian musical ensemble.

Sabbioneta English-language page
Hi
I wanted to question some claims made on the english-language [page]:
"Sabbioneta is also known for its historic Jewish Ghetto and Synagogue, and in particular for its Hebrew printing-press. In 1551 Tobias Foa set up the press; he had, however, published certain "anti-Christian books" and his career was "forcibly ended". His work and possibly his type were taken up by a Christian printer, Vicenzo Conte".
There are two links but both are to non-existent pages on sabbioneta.org - the website of the Pro Loco for Sabbioneta. The quotations are unattributed.
According to this document - written by Alberto Sarzi Madidini and produced by the Sabbioneta Pro Loco, there was a long-established Jewish community in Sabbioneta which lasted for 500 years, but there was no ghetto - ie an area where Jews were forced to live and had to return to at dusk. I've not been able to find out when Foa died or the circumstances of his death, but the document says that the work of the printshop ceased with Foa's death and that its work briefly resumed under Vincenzo Conte. The wikipedia article seems to be implying that Foa's business was expropriated and handed over to a Christian printer -is there any evidence to support this? If there is then it should be referenced.
The italian-language page does not include these claims.

Infobox "nationality" conundrum
I would be interested to know if there is consensus here on how the "nationality" entry in some infobox templates should be handled for Italians (i.e. Italian people) who lived before unification. Personally, I find the entry itself is troublesome, but I feel the suggestion made here for Amerigo Vespucci is helpful. Others hold different views (e.g. [3] [4] - just two examples among many, I think). 86.181.67.132 (talk) 18:34, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- I assume it would be best to simply avoid putting that entry in the infobox. Place of birth which lists contemporary political divisions should be sufficient, and the lede should include person's nationality anyway in its opening sentence per MOS, linking to Italian people. Timbouctou (talk) 21:49, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- That would also be my preferred solution as it solves the problem without any loss of information. I'm wondering whether regulars here agree? 86.181.67.132 (talk) 22:56, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

I figure that it'd be a good idea if someone fluent looked for sources just to verify that there isn't anything out there. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:04, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello, |
Old maps and views of parts of Italy
As you might have seen in the Signpost last week, there's currently a drive to go through the million 19th century images released by the British Library last year, and identify all the maps, with a view to their being georeferenced by BL volunteers, and then uploaded to Commons early next year. After the first week, over eight thousand new maps have been identified, with 40% of the target books looked at -- see the status page for the latest figures, and more information.
A part that may specifically interest this project is the page
and also the page
which currently respectively show 102 and 291 pink templated links for Flickr book pages still to be looked at for untagged maps. (Though there are lots of other parts of the world still to be looked through as well).
Any help looking through these would be very much appreciated -- as well as the maps (and ground plans) for tagging, you may well also find other interesting or useful non-map views that may be worth considering or uploading for articles on parts of Italy and elsewhere . (If uploading, please use the ingestion template described here, which sets up some appropriate image templates and categories).

Request
I need to ask for somebody associated with this project to take a look at Amphitheatre of Libarna. The problem is that the text of the article describes it as being in Liguria, but the location map is pushpinning it not in Liguria or even anywhere else in Italy, but all the way down in Tunisia instead. Obviously the pushpin coordinates are probably wrong, but I have no idea how or where to find out what the right ones are — so could somebody with more expertise in Italian topics take a look at this? Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 00:51, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Dear Italy experts: This old AfC submission will soon be deleted as a stale draft. Is this a notable topic, and are there references about it that are not in English? Or is this the same topic as Cima Palon, and should the two pages be merged? —Anne Delong (talk) 00:43, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Feedback for an FAC
Hi all,
The 1987 Giro d'Italia article is currently at FAC. In order for the article to pass and become a featured article, it needs to pass section 1c of the criteria for featured articles, requiring that "it is well-researched: it is a thorough and representative survey of the relevant literature. Claims are verifiable against high-quality reliable sources and are supported by inline citations where appropriate". If anyone could drop by the review and evaluate the Italian language sources for reliability, it would be greatly appreciated.

WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Is www.comuni-italiani.it a reliable source?
The project page says that www.comuni-italiani.it is a reliable source, but I have been told that it is not always a reliable source, since many pages are taken from the Italian Wikipedia. Any know for sure either way? Nurg (talk) 06:09, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Check out a source?
Hey, can anyone take a look at this website? It's in Italian and I have to use Google Translate to really navigate it. I can see where the website does appear to have editorial oversight but what worries me is that they seem to accept a lot of reviews on the same work, in particular the one in the link above. This makes me wonder if they accept reviews from anyone or if they at least do some sort of editorial control over things. This is in relation to the article for Menotti Lerro, which had some serious promotional issues with overcitations and puffery. I think that there's notability here but I'd need to be able to verify some of the Italian language sources in the article. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:22, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Additional research into Italian Americans
In p. 121 of Luconi, Stefano (University of Florence). "Building Little Italy: Philadelphia's Italians before Mass Migration" (Book Review). Italica, 1 April 1999, Vol.76(1), pp. 121–122.:
Luconi stated "A filopietistic approach has long bulked large in the examination of the early stages of the Italian experience in North America." and that the main research trend has been "a hagiographic defense of Italian immigrants' contributions to the cultural, political, and economic development of American society to counter negative stereotypes of Italians as foreigners incapable of assimilation into their adoptive country." since the 1934 publication of The Italians in America before the Civil War by Giovanni Schiavo.
He stated that "Glenn Weaver's The Italian Presence in Colonial Virginia (New York: Center for Migration Studies, 1988) was still little more than an informative account of how hundreds of individuals of Italian origin made their own contribution to pre-Revolutionary Virginian society." Duolingo Translations
Hello,
I'm an active Duolingo user, and I enjoy translating articles from the Italian wikipedia into English. I'm not a big wikipedia user, so my biggest roadblock is getting those articles transferred into the English wikipedia.
I've tried doing it myself, and the results are ugly. Luckily on one of them, someone came in to patrol it up. But I also have much more complete versions of stub articles in English.
So, in short, I love translating, but not a big fan of actually doing the Wikipedia part. Is there anyone who'd like to help? I have about 10 articles in the pipeline so far, looking for better homes :)

We need an article Cannabis in Italy
Hello, I'm working at WP:WikiProject Cannabis, and we're trying to expand our coverage of "Cannabis in (country)" articles, and I saw that we don't have one for Italy. Reports show that Italy has a high consumption rate of cannabis, so there must be some interesting documented facts about cannabis law, commerce, and culture in that country that we can build into an article. We have some suggestions at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Cannabis#.22Cannabis_in_.28Country.29.22_articles_for_creation_and_expansion for how to help add more countries to our coverage; anyone here want to help out by covering Italy? House of Landi needs expert attention
This is a second request for expert attention at House of Landi. If the claims in the article are even half true, this was a significant house in the history of medieval Italy, but the article has been written almost entirely by a proclaimed descendant of the house who may well be trying to aggrandize his family name beyond what is due. I don't have access to many of his sources, and don't speak Italian nearly well enough to evaluate the sources I do have access to, so I was hoping someone from this project, expert in the history of Italy, might be able to take a look. Weird "m" in pronunciation key(s)
At sacred conversation, the Italian pronunciation key had been given as Italian pronunciation: [ˈsaːkra ˌkomvɛrsaˈtsjoːne]. Back in 2012, I changed the "m" to an "n", more in line with my understanding of how the word conversazione is pronounced.
Recently, another user changed it back to an "m", citing Help:IPA for Italian, where I found the following note:
- The nasals always assimilate their place of articulation to that of the following consonant. Thus, the n in /nɡ/~/nk/ is a velar [ŋ], and the one in /nf/~/nv/ is a labiodental [ɱ] (though for simplicity /m/ takes its place in this list). A nasal before /p/ and /b/ is always the labial [m].
This claim is not cited, and frankly I just do not think it is true. Could this be a regional variation? My time in Italy has been spent mostly in Veneto. --Trovatore (talk) 20:29, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- It seems this is a much bigger issue than just the one article. For example, Inferno is being transcribed as [imˈfɛrno] (see L'Inferno (1911 film). Anyone who can shed light on this, please weigh in at Help talk:IPA for Italian#Assimilated_.5Bm.5D. Thanks. --Trovatore (talk) 21:41, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

- http://www.scuoleasmara.it/elementare/index.html - "SCUOLA ELEMENTARE ”M. BUONARROTI”"
- http://www.scuoleasmara.it/media/index.html - "SCUOLA MEDIA" - which says: "Dal 2002 la Scuola Media e la Scuola Elementare sono state accorpate in un unico 'Istituto Italiano Comprensivo di Scuola Elementare e Scuola Media'."
- http://www.scuoleasmara.it/liceo/uffici.htm - "LICEO "G. MARCONI""
I want to figure out if these schools are all considered to be part of the same international school, or if they are administratively separate and should be counted as separate schools. This is because I want to write an article on the senior high school. Also which ones correspond to it:Liceo italiano di Asmara and/or it:Istituto italiano comprensivo di Asmara? I want to link the correct article. (see also it:Discussioni_utente:Rei_Momo#Did_these_Italian_schools_merge_into_the_same_one.3F)
I think the Italian schools in Kenya and Mozambique have closed, but I don't know where to get confirmation. WhisperToMe (talk) 23:11, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
- @WhisperToMe: The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinates Italian Schools abroad: see their website page, unfortunately only in Italian. I try and translate the central paragraph.
"The network of Italian Schools abroad (since pre-school pupils up to upper school, i.e. for pupils 3 to 18 years old) includes: - 8 State comprehensive institutes, i.e. with all school grades, in Addis Abeba, Asmara, Athens, Barcelona, Istanbul, Madrid, Paris and Zurich; - 43 private Italian school equal to State schools ("paritarie"), mostly comprehensive institutes, in different geographic areas, such as Europe, Sub-Saharian Africa, Mediterranean area and Middle East, North and South America; - Italian sections in European schools (meaning that pupils attending the European school can choose a course in Italian - or with Italian culture, maybe - , equal to other course in other European languages/cultures): 3 in Brussels and 1 in Luxembourg, Frankfurt am Main, Munich and Varese; - 76 Italian sections in foreign bilingual or international schools, 60 of which in the EU, 14 in non-EU countries (in Europe, I guess), 1 in North or South America and 1 in Oceania; - courses of Italian language and culture for Italians living abroad, managed by the Direction General of Italians abroad." - Thank you so much for finding that! WhisperToMe (talk) 17:42, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Guidelines for italian communes naming
Has this projet ever decided a sort of guidelines about which sources should one refer when naming italian communes articles? I tried to search this project discussion pages but didn't find anything. I wonder that the title of the article should adhere to the offical name, isn't it? Which source does this project usually consider as primary source? Commune statute? ISTAT's territorial units list? --195.206.3.188 (talk) 13:27, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

Gianni Berengo Gardin
Incompetence restrains me less often than it perhaps should. A non-reader of Italian, I have recently and impertinently launched into "article space" three articles on interrelated subjects: Morire di classe, Gianni Berengo Gardin and Gianni Berengo Gardin bibliography. There may be misunderstandings and typos that a literate reader of Italian wouldn't perpetrate. Look-overs by the competent and educated would be welcome. -- Hoary (talk) 09:26, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Auto-assessment of article classes
Following a recent discussion at WP:VPR, there is consensus for an opt-in bot task that automatically assesses the class of articles based on classes listed for other project templates on the same page. In other words, if WikiProject A has evaluated an article to be C-class and WikiProject B hasn't evaluated the article at all, such a bot task would automatically evaluate the article as C-class for WikiProject B.
If you think auto-assessment might benefit this project, consider discussing it with other members here. For more information or to request an auto-assessment run, please visit User:BU RoBOT/autoassess. This is a one-time message to alert projects with over 1,000 unassessed articles to this possibility. ~ RobTalk 01:12, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
Kento Masuda
I was wondering if a member of this Project who knows Italian could check out the pages Kento Masuda and Hiroko Tsuji (musician)? Written by the same editor, both seem to assert the subjects have been entered into the Order of St. Sylvester and cite a page in Italian as proof. The Tsuji page has a photo of her holding what seems to be certificate in Italian. I suspect that both pages are self-promotion and may be exaggerating the relationship to the Order. Michitaro (talk) 22:45, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
- The page in Italian used as a reference for Masuda actually says that Masuda entered the order, and he appears in the picture (third from the right in the front row) so I think it is a reasonably sound reference for the purpose. The web page itself is self-celebrating and not a good reference overall, but proves Masuda's affiliation. Given that, my feeling is that being accepted in the Order is somewhat of a honoris causa award and it makes no sense to have that line in the opening of the article on Masuda as if this was something very important or significant about him. Possibly a side note somewhere might be enough, and possibly not even needed. Moongateclimber (talk) 09:56, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
- I couldn't resist and edited it. I also removed words like "distinguished" title... The matter is again discussed in the biography, and still, I think, to a larger extent than reasonable; but at least it's not in the opening paragraph. Moongateclimber (talk) 10:00, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

Commune Infobox
The Italian articles for communes always provide an image of the respective stemma for the comumune itself and the region and province it belongs to in the infobox. Is there ever going to be a concerted effort to update this on all the English articles? I think it's overwhelmingly aesthetically pleasing to the article layout and automatically formalises it. Even if this is a moot point based on subjectivity, it can't be said it's not relevant to the article. Only having the regional flag -- as it is in most articles -- is chintzy. WLM Italy 2016 pre-jury
Wiki Loves Monuments Italy needs pre-jurors, people with 1-3 hours of time that select a 20-30-40% of 1000-2000 submitted pictures for the final jury.
Pre-jurors are professional photographers and wikimedians. Now, Italian users usually takes pictures so to be pre-jurors they cannot take part in the competition. So I was thinking, if anyone of you speaks decently Italian (you can understand some mail with instructions) would you like to join? If you live outside Italy (statistically) you have no conflict of interest. But as wikimedians you can judge the wiki-quality of those pictures like everybody else and provide a good evaluation.

The 10,000 Challenge
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. If anybody here would like to contribute to a European one or would rather contribute to a sub one specifically for Italy like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Italy) based on Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic), sign your name under the section for Italy and I'll start it if there is enough support. For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Italian and European content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Italy and European nations, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:27, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Pagno, Cuneo (N of Monaco) 600s In the 600s a monastery was founded here at Pagno. This monastery was part of the great missionary movement of the church at this time, led by people like pope Gregory (590-605), all across Europe to convert the local heathen from these monasteries, by preaching and caring monks. Some of them became bishops of dioceses and their churches cathedrals. Naming of three articles
Hi, if someone could give some advice on the proper naming of three articles I've recently written on Italian subjects, I'd bee grateful. They're Santi Pietro e Paolo d'Agrò, Church of the Santissima Annunziata dei Catalani and Bellomo Palace Regional Gallery. I've tried to use English naming conventions I've found online but frankly I think all three of these articles have weird names. They're half English, half Italian somehow. Any suggestions on their improvement from someone used to dealing with Italian subjects in English would be much appreciated! Thanks, Yakikaki (talk) 16:48, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi guys, over the past few weeks the article Free Territory of Trieste has been edited to contend that it was never dissolved, and still exists as a sovereign state. This seems to me to be manifestly wrong and a fringe theory (see for example this website), and I don't think the cited sources support this contention at all. Similar content seems to have been previously inserted into the article years ago and subsequently removed, as documented on the article's talk page. I have no expertise on the matter, so thought I would alert potentially interested parties. Portwalrus (talk) 15:57, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Popular pages report
We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Italy/Archive 9/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Italy.
We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).
We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Italy, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Help with additional references for an article, already found in the Italian wiki
The article Indro Montanelli has been tagged for 10 years as in need of additional references for verification. It seems that the italian version of the article is significantly more complete in this aspect. I don't speak Italian nor am I familiar with the subject of the article, I was casually reading it and noticed the problem and thought someone here could be able and willing to help. Women in Italy article
I have just completed a copyedit of Women in Italy. There was one section that I was unable to copyedit, as there were a number of grammatical errors that made the text difficult to understand, and I did not want to risk changing the meaning. The section title is "Under the Fascist regime (1925–1945)" and it is about 400 words in length. If there is anyone involved with WikiProject Italy who feels comfortable taking on this task, and rewriting the section, I would welcome the help. Thank you. Seeking info on Alessandro Manzoni
I'm seeking additional information/confirmation on the possible scientific contributions of Italian poet and novelist Alessandro Manzoni. He is briefly listed in a compendium of malacologists (here, page. 601), stating simply he "Wrote on marine shells of Elba; also known as poet." It seems the most authoritative sources on Manzoni are in Italian. Myself and Narky Blert are trying to establish the extent and scope of Manzoni's contributions to natural history, and whether they merit inclusion in an encyclopedia, or are of trivial importance. Any enlightenment would be much appreciated. Cheers, --Animalparty! (talk) 23:56, 1 September 2017 (UTC)
- Animalparty, I looked briefly at this, and can find no mention of Manzoni in relation to shells; mentions in relation to Elba are either to do with Napoleon, or relate to the river of that name. There's no mention of shells or malacology in the entry on Manzoni in the Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani; his only "scientific" interest was apparently in agriculture (Piero Floriani (2007). MANZONI, Alessandro. Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani, volume 69.). Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:23, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Justlettersandnumbers: Thank you kindly! I don't think there is enough reliable sourcing to claim that Manzoni was a naturalist, beyond perhaps writing about nature in a poetic sense. --Animalparty! (talk) 17:59, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

RfC on Senigallia page (to help me as a newby)
I'm a newby editor with little experience at WP. I noticed a request to copy-edit Senigallia which I've done as far as I can take it (see its talk page). I removed a few lines of (to me meaningless) text with the intention of checking the facts before clarifying the text. I've been unable to find these facts either in EN or IT pages (using Google translate). The corresponding page in Italian looks to me to be higher quality with better sourcing. But it only has a passing mention of the EN text that I removed. There seem to be inconsistencies in the content of the IT and EN pages that are not just due to the level of detail. I wonder whether it would be better to have the corresponding Italian page translated into EN before doing a final copy-edit. This page has low importance so my main question is on the general process: how should I go about this and which 'flags' do you suggest I use on which pages (EN/IT)? I assume I may run into similar issues on other pages for which there are better quality native-language pages. Thanks, Mikemorrell49 (talk) 15:54, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
Disambiguation links on pages tagged by this wikiproject
Wikipedia has many thousands of wikilinks which point to disambiguation pages. It would be useful to readers if these links directed them to the specific pages of interest, rather than making them search through a list. Members of WikiProject Disambiguation have been working on this and the total number is now below 20,000 for the first time. Some of these links require specialist knowledge of the topics concerned and therefore it would be great if you could help in your area of expertise.

Romanoro article
Could someone look at the history for the now non-existent article Romanoro (here is the history link). I'm not familiar with Italy so that is why I am coming to you fine people. Currently the article is redirecting to Frassinoro, but prior to the redirect being added and before some destructive edits, there was a nice tid bit of information there. My question is should this redirect and the destructive edits be reverted to bring the article back to life or should it be left as is and why? - Offnfopt(talk) 20:51, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Left wing Italian political movements
When going through fixing links to domain reselling pages, I've noticed that there are a lot of dead links and poorly formatted sources in articles about left wing Italian political movements, such as Movement for the Left and Refoundation for the Left. RfC on Infobox Italian comune
I am proposing a change to Template:Infobox Italian comune, which would make the province
parameter, which currently displays the label "Province/Metropolitan city", a binary option. Instead of the current ambiguity, there would be the mutually exclusive parameters province
and metropolitan_city
, which would display their respective labels. You can comment on the proposal at Template talk:Infobox Italian comune#Proposed aesthetic change. Ergo Sum 23:07, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

Transition from Provinces to Metropolitan Cities
I am currently working on transitioning the parameter province
to metropolitan_city
in Template:Infobox Italian comune for all comuni that are within metropolitan cities. I recently created the metropolitan_cities
parameter (which is a bit overdue, since Italy converted the provinces of big cities to metropolitan cities in 2015). There are 1,281 articles whose infoboxes need conversion, which I am now doing. However, many of these articles also say they are in e.g. the Province of Milan instead of the Metropolitan City of Milan within the article text. The same is true of these comuni's Wikidata items. Help converting that would be appreciated. Ergo Sum 21:46, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- I noticed the
{{Edit template protected}}
requests at the relevant templates, but have left them open for now, pending further input. This looks like a valid request, but I want to make sure the wikiproject agrees this is the right change to make (not because anyone needs wikiprojects' permission for anything of course, but because the editors most likely to understand the exact nature of the "bureaucratic nomenclature" change in Italy are going to be in this wikiproject). — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ< 04:49, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

RfC on ISTAT code in comuni infoboxes
I have proposed the creation of a parameter called istat
for {{Infobox Italian comune}}. Many municipalities in e.g. the United States have some form of identifier code in their infoboxes. Likewise, on the Italian wikipedia, the infoboxes for comuni contain ISTAT codes, since this is an important number to have. Creating this parameter would basically be a shortcut for editors instead of using a cumbersome workaround based on {{Infobox settlement}} (for which Infobox Italian comune is a wrapper). The proposal is found at Template talk:Infobox Italian comune#Proposed addition of parameter. Comments are appreciated. Ergo Sum 03:14, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
Task force focusing on Italian municipalities?
What would everyone think about creating a task force in this WikiProject which would exclusively focus on improving, standardising, and harmonising articles about Italian municipalities? WikiProject Germany has a similar task force and it seems to be quite effective. Help improving the Kinder Surprise article
Hello! On behalf of the Italian confectionery company Ferrero SpA, I have proposed some improvements for the Kinder Surprise Wikipedia article and I am wondering if members of WikiProject Italy would like to review them. I'm assuming some of the folks here may be quite familiar with Ferrero and hopefully with Kinder Surprise! To start improving the page which is currently not in the greatest shape, I've proposed a new version of the Description section (the existing material in the article for this section is mostly unsourced). I also propose removing the poorly sourced Classification and identification section. Given my conflict of interest, I won't be editing the article directly, and I'm hoping editors from this project will be interested to review my request and provide feedback and / or update the article appropriately. If you're interested, my request is here. Thanks in advance for any assistance. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 15:53, 13 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi! I stumbled across a one-sentence article on Lago di Bientina, which used to be the largest lake in Tuscany before it was drained. I've been working to expand it but it's been slow going as I don't speak Italian, which almost all of the sources are in. Any guidance, help, or pointers would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all! Ganesha811 (talk) 14:41, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
I was reading through the article and found a bunch of stuff that looked pretty weird to me. It seems that somehow a number of what sound like fringe conspiracy theories may have slipped into the article and are treated as credible. I am not sure if the sources for all of these are even reliable. To be sure some fringe theories can be notable and may have enough coverage in reliable sources to warrant mention in an article or in rare cases even get their own article. See John F. Kennedy assassination conspiracy theories. But those are rather exceptional cases and rely on reliable sources. In any case fringe theories can't be given equal weight with generally accepted mainstream explanations for events per WP:FRINGE and WP:UNDUE. Unfortunately I have no Italian and it would be helpful if someone familiar with the history could look at the article and make some judgements about the referencing and if there is anything that is obviously dicey, remove it. For now I have opened a discussion on the talk page and tagged the article. Thanks for any help. -Ad Orientem (talk) 01:48, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
The article Raffaello Giovagnoli has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Machine translation, unimproved in months.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Mathglot (talk) 21:22, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:42, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

This has been turned recently into an incoherent mass of accusations with potential BLP issues. I am not able to read cites in Italian other than by machine translation, so I am bringing it to your attention in the hope that one of you can sort through it and trim it down to only what is actually justified by the sources.
- Reply: @Pinkbeast: I made some edits and took out unsourced sections and subsections that resulted in BLP issues and placed relevant article and section tags when it started getting too deep. Otr500 (talk) 14:46, 7 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I think it might need a bit more, given the accusations of "illegal distribution of private contracts", "Mafia-style" activities, etc. It's also a bit of a mess of Caps Disease and typos; I could have a bash at that, of course, but it's probably easier if someone who can read the cites goes first... Pinkbeast (talk) 16:15, 7 July 2018 (UTC)
A similar thing happened to Meeting for friendship among peoples but since there the accusations were simply uncited, I removed most of them and tidied it up a bit. Obviously, more eyes on that would also be appreciated, but less urgently. Pinkbeast (talk) 18:03, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

If you have any comment about User:A.M.A. Dean/sandbox please let me know. The Festival del Viaggio is an established event and there are enough sources to describe it and prove its notability, but I welcome all the possible advice.--Alexmar983 (talk) 00:43, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
- There are enough reliable source but I will improve a little bit more. Based on personal deadlines and so on, I think I might publish it in few weeks in the main namespace, if there are no objections.--Alexmar983 (talk) 00:25, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry I meant in few days, or in one week, I probably merged the two concepts. So, any problem? I have also added a source in Spanish from 2017, so it's quite international even if centered in Italy.--Alexmar983 (talk) 15:33, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
- I moved it.--Alexmar983 (talk) 20:37, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!
A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Misleading titles
I report that many articles about Totò movies use non-official english titles translated literally (sometimes wrongly) by the translator of this book. In particular two of these non-official english titles are weird and misleading (in a hilarious way): "Toto Tours Italy" and "Fear and Sand". The title "Totò al giro d'Italia" means Totò takes part to "giro d'Italia" (the most important cyclistic competition in Italy, translatable as "Tour of Italy"), not Totò is a tourist and visits various places and cities of Italy ("Toto tours Italy"). The title "Fifa e arena" means "Fear and arena", not "Fear and sand" (the fact is that "arena" in Italian can have two meanings: "sand" and "arena", and, reading the plot of the movie, it's obvious that "arena" should be translated as "arena"). It's obvious that the translator of that book carelessly translated literally the title of those movies without reading the plot and so some of these titles are plainly wrong. In my opinion, if an official english title doesn't exist, it should be used the original title (of course, in the article the title's meaning, including his literal translation, can be explained). So I propose the moving of these articles to their italian title in all the cases where an official english title doesn't exist.--93.33.52.33 (talk) 05:02, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
- I agree. The poor quality of the translation is clear to any native speaker.--Alexmar983 (talk) 18:30, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

List as with Italian Grand prix
Hi,
I'm from Wikiproject Formula One. I was just wondering why for the Talk:2000 Italian Grand Prix you added a |listas=Italian Grand Prix, 2000
because it messes up how we sort in our categories. Obviously we can't have both so, given that it's called 2000 Italian Grand Prix would you mind removing the listas and not doing so in future so that our articles can be listed consistently, it looks weird if the Italian Grands prix aren't listed by year but all over races aren't. Thanks, SSSB (talk) 18:56, 16 June 2019 (UTC)

Verifying list of Italian paintings
I had to remove the list of of works at Ottaviano Nelli because I was unable to verify them with the English references that I have access to and I nominated the article for DYK. I would like the works in this revision verified if possible. I thought I would ask here because the sources are likely to be in Italian. SL93 (talk) 22:49, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Hello, |
Italian fiscal code page is incomplete
The Italian fiscal code page seems incomplete. It misses to specify that an italian fiscal code could also be 11 characters long for all entities that are not individuals, as described in Codice fiscale (IT). I think this is an important detail, since this page could be used as reference in many important situations (ie: developing software libraries that checks VATs and national numbers of various countries). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.255.153.167 (talk) 14:34, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
Was wondering if someone from this WikiProject might take a look at this article and see if any sources about this person in Italian can be found? I've been Googling his name (and "Vincenzo Camporeale") for any signs of significant coverage in reliable sources, but I cannot find anything in English at all. Some of the hits are in Italian, but I can't read them to determine if they would meet WP:RS or even whether they are anything other than trivial mentions. I came across this article at WP:THQ#Enzo Camporeale, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may not be retained. where the creator of the article is asking for help, but I can't, at least right at this time, find anything that even suggests this person meets WP:BIO or WP:COMPOSER. There doesn't even seem to be an article about him on Italian Wikipedia it:Enzo Camporeale which might not be a good sign for a Italian composer. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:34, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
Carlo Masi
Hallo, I am claiming notability for Carlo Masi as a gay porn actor but I keep getting random answers from people who do not know neither Italian nor the main National daily news papers in Italy. About the sourcing I was told that in the most of the sources he is barely mentioned, the sources are not reliable and that he or I could have written those sources. It will take you one second to see how crazy this is. Could you please give a look to this draft and give me some advice? Note that I have many more sources for this draft but if 'La Repubblica' is not considered good enough than I really don't know which one to pick. https://www.tgcom24.mediaset.it/ would be considered more reliable? at this point I don't know what to do. http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Draft:Carlo_Masi thank you--AlejandroLeloirRey (talk) 12:11, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
