Italian version

Mission and goals

[edit]

The course aims to provide some hands-on training in technical writing and, at the same time, to contribute to the general diffusion of knowledge. This will be achieved by engaging SUPSI's Ph.D. students in the production of new material (or improvement of existing material) for Wikipedia.

Attendees are PhD students in various degrees. They will write articles in English or Italian. The course is held in English.

This is a pilot to produce a replicable PhD course and was based on the experience held in Polimi in collaboration with Wikimedia Italia.

Instructors

[edit]
  • Dr. Iolanda Pensa (PI, organiser and documentation)
  • prof. Matthew Vetter (online, documentation and research methodology)
  • Marco Chemello (lecturer, Wikimedia Italia tutor)

What we do

[edit]

Each student is required to produce one complete Wikipedia article or more in English and/or Italian. The choice of the language is by the student.

As alternative to the creation of a new article (preferred choice), it is possible to produce extensions to one or more existing articles. The bare translation of an article is not considered sufficient.

The articles are chosen during the first/second day in agreement with the teachers.

New articles are developed in individual sandboxes. The full articles have to be published by the early morning of the last day of the course (28 February).

Additionally, every student has to review at least 3 articles by other students.
