Redirects out of article space

[edit]

Hi there. I deleted AfC, which you created as a redirect to Wikipedia:Articles for creation, because we can't have redirects from article space into project ("Wikipedia") space. The redirect WP:AfC already exists. -- SCZenz 22:16, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I looked, and AfC was kept as an exception because it was widely used. New ones I don't think are necessary. -- SCZenz 06:15, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Summary Request

[edit]

I have noted that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! -- Kukini 21:20, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious

[edit]

Hello, just curious to see your ID! --Bhadani 11:52, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your username ...

[edit]

Could you please pick a different username for yourself and submit a username change request at WP:RFCU? This current username is much too vandal-like and I almost reflexively blocked you upon seeing the name before checking that the contribs were legit. --Cyde↔Weys 00:58, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see that my username is a random string of characters, since it is most definitely not random in any sense of the word "random". A string of 11 z's is not generated randomly in any great probability. It's a vanishingly small probability that such a sequence would result randomly. It is 11, so it is not long, 1 more than 10, which can be counted with just the fingers on people's hands. I also like being assured to be at the end of any list of users by username, it's a prominent position. As I mainly edit astronomy articles, my username is also appropriate, because, you miss out on your Z's seeing the night sky. I also don't see why anything should be blocked reflexively. That's a good way to end up with trouble. As for other usernames, many people's usernames have a random string of digits attached to some not very clear string of characters that are at best chaotic. Wegekadt1872 or somesuch seems even more random, and likely to be generated so. (Not that I know any user:Wegekadt1872). – Zzzzzzzzzzz 01:52, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're wrong, the chance of generating the username Zzzzzzzzzzz is just as likely as the chance of generating the username Dkjzbnprcsf, for instance. --Cyde Weys 04:51, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The probability of generating a string of 11 characters that are the same is much lower than that of generating a string of 11 characters that are not the same. Zzzzzzzzzzz 04:54, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Seeing as how Zzzzzzzzzzz (talk · contribs) has made several thousand constructive edits over the period of many months, and the username is not offensive, I don't see any reason why we should be discriminating against this contributor based upon the actions of unrelated vandals. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 04:47, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Exactly, he looks very legitimate to me. I don't see how his username matches with any long-term vandals that I know out there. Perhaps what he just needs is a nice userpage and the community to recongize his contributions more. :) - Mailer Diablo 08:39, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In revising Wikipedia articles on clusters of galaxies and other extragalactic structures, I came across the article on Field of the Nebulae, which you apparently created. This is a very obscure term; Google searches by other people and myself have found almost nothing that verifies what is written in this article (although we found a lot of articles that repeat what is written in Wikipedia). The article contains no references, so nothing in it can be verified.

Several other people in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Astronomical objects have suggested deleting this page as non-notable, possibly using prod. The prod page suggests contacting the creator of the article (you) as a courtesy before tagging the article for deletion.

So, in regards to the Field of the Nebulae article, would you like to state your preference as to whether the article should be kept or deleted? If it should be kept, could you please give a justification as to why (and possibly expand the article). Thank you, George J. Bendo 10:35, 28 October 2006 (UTC).[reply]

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Field of the Nebulae, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Field of the Nebulae. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Category:Hypothetical galaxies

[edit]

I would be willing to withdraw my nomination for deletion of Category:Hypothetical galaxies if we can agree that it should be used to describe only theoretical objects rather than being used as a catch-all for objects that may be galaxies or objects previously identified as galaxies that are actually other types of objects. A collection of extragalactic objects predicted by theory would be useful; a juxtaposition of multiple types of objects is not. Dr. Submillimeter 15:24, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Galaxy types

[edit]

I think your Galaxy types category might be very useful, but at the moment, it partly duplicates Category:Active galaxies. Would you object if I proposed renaming this category as "Category:Galaxy morphological types" and then shuffled articles accordingly?

(Also, if you cannot tell, I am actively interested in the galaxy category hierarchy. You may want to talk to me before creating new categories.) Dr. Submillimeter 17:22, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I partly disagree with your viewpoint here. Adding all the active galaxy main article pages (i.e. Seyfert galaxy, quasar, etc.) to both Category:Active galaxies and Category:Galaxy types creates category clutter. I am going to put it up for discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Astronomical objects for a third opinion. Dr. Submillimeter 09:37, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An article that you have been involved in editing, Small Magellanic Cloud (Star Fleet Universe), has been listed for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Small Magellanic Cloud (Star Fleet Universe) (2nd nomination). Proposed deletion of [[Faint Blue Galaxy (disambiguation)}}

Faint Blue Galaxy (disambiguation)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Faint Blue Galaxy (disambiguation), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Faint Blue Galaxy (disambiguation). me_and (talk) 18:36, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Binary planets, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Binary planets has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Binary planets, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. A tag has been placed on Uranography (disambiguation), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you believe that there is a reason to keep the redirect, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on 3rd planet requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

The article RX J1416.5+2315 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable astronomical object

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on First planet requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion".
