Welcome to Wikipedia, Ypedia1! I'm Royal Autumn Crest, and I've been assigned as your mentor. Around 10% of new Wikipedia accounts receive a mentor randomly taken from a list of volunteers. It just means I'm here to help with anything you need! We need to have all kinds of people working together to create an online encyclopedia, so I'm glad you're here. Over time, you will figure out what you enjoy doing the most on Wikipedia.

You might have noticed that you have access to a tutorial and suggested edits. It's recommended that you take advantage of this, as it'll make learning how to edit Wikipedia easier.

Hi welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for creating this article. When we translate or borrow from other language wikis it’s a requirement to acknowledge the source. The best way to do this is to include it in your first edit summary (e.g. “translated from ar.wiki”) and there’s also a translation template you can add to the talk page. I’ve added it for you. Happy editing and please leave a message on my talk page if you need any help Mccapra (talk) 11:32, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for pointing this out. I was not aware the Arabic (and French) pages existed before I created the English one, so its not a translation of either.

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Cabinet of Egypt, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mahlab Cabinet. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Note about mergers

[edit]

Hey, just noting separately here: if you actually want to propose a merger of Subdivisions of Egypt with Local Government in Egypt, you need to follow all the steps outlined at WP:MERGEPROP. Just adding a tag to Subdivisions of Egypt, like you did here, won't do anything. If you have any questions about the process outlined there, let me know (or feel free to ask for specific help at the article's talk page). Cheers, R Prazeres (talk) 03:56, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, will do that Ypedia1 (talk) 21:20, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ramses Hilton moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Ramses Hilton, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 13:30, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I may agree that the article could benefit from more information, however I fail to see how any of the sources are not reliable as per the wikipedia guidline you posted (unless you did not read them): should be (1) reliable (2) secondary (3) independent of the subject. Progressive Architecture was a slecialist US magazine that ran for seven decades and its archive is hosted by a university. Schweizer Ingenieur und Architekt was a Swiss magazine published in German, specialised in architecture and engineering and ran for 30 years. Daily News Egypt is a local newspaper published in English. They are all relaible, secondary, and independent of the subject. Based on this there is no merit to your tag and move and I request the article is reinstated. Ypedia1 (talk) 21:19, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ypedia

[edit]

Regarding your information about the population the one you have is just and estimate and it is the number representing only three qisms from new cairo while new cairo actually has other parts like madinty, rehab, south academy,etc... . The official website for new urban communities says it is 1.5 millions and I actually live here in New Cairo and I am pretty sure we are much more than the number you mentioned, please bear in mind that the numbers you have are estimated based on old measures before people started moving in huge numbers to new cairo in recent years so they are not accurate at all and they don't represent New Cairo as a whole. Mhnkrk (talk) 21:12, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mhnkrk, you have it the other way around. The NUCA numbers are (a very ambitious) estimate. The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) is the official agency in charge of assessing the population based on Law 2915/1964. Its estimates are based on its last census in 2017[1], and if not 100% accurate, are much more realistic than NUCA's figures which do not seem to be based on any methodology. The whole of New Cairo including Madinaty is covered by the three qisms, and that is per the electoral law - any population centers must be represented. This official Cairo Governorate map shows that[2]. What evidence do you have that the qisms do not cover all the population, or that CAPMAS is not accurate? Control copyright icon Hello Ypedia1! Your additions to Riad Higazy have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:25, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Johannes (Talk) (Contribs) (Articles) 20:18, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Johannes Maximilian, thank you for taking the time to review the article. I find it however puzzling that it wasn't accepted based on lack of reliable sources. There are 27 sources used for the article. At least six of them are according to the definition, independent secondary sources and include media outlets such as France 24, Global Voices, and Middle East Monitor. As Abolgheit was a journalist, the remainder are primary sources, though of known and verifiable institutions whether that gave awards (Fesitov, TIMEP, UNCA, etc...) or published his work (CNN, Global Witness, Al-Shorouk, ...). Based on this, I would like a review of the submission, while I am open to discussion on particular examples or issues. Ypedia1 (talk) 20:01, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
