Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Ahmad Al-Sharaa birth date.
[edit]Hello, In a recent interview with Al-Arabiya, Ahmad Al-Sharaa himself has told Al-Arabiya roporter that he was born on 29th October, not July. Since youtube URL's are blocked here I'm not sure how to link it to you, but you can find the video linked in my sandbox on the Arabic Wiki. Naturally the correct birth date has been modified in the Arabic Wiki. Since the page is protected, can you maybe modify it here too? Bakkouz (talk) 12:00, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the update, I have edited the article using an article from An-Nahar as the source since the YouTube video could not be used. Please consider adding the source to the Arabic Wikipedia article as well for better sourcing.

Current syrian police in Aleppo and Damascus
[edit]Hi
Do you have sources about the force used as police? Panam2014 (talk) 23:40, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I do not currently have a solid understanding of who is who on the ground, so I'll just share with you what I have so far.
- By looking at their uniforms, I assumed that they're all forces that used to work under the Syrian Salvation Government that were moved to work under the Ministry of Interior of the new central government in Damascus. With some having graduated recently after going through training after the fall of the Assad regime. As statements (made by the Syrian Ministry of Interior in the Transitional Government) announced starting the registration process to the police academy.
- In a tweet rhat was posted with an example of a security forces' ID was titled
- "Ministry of Defense
- General Security Administration
- Damascus Security Directorate"
- But the logo on the ID had "Syrian Salvation Government" written on it.
- The first graduates from the Salvation Government's police academy just graduated last August.

Photos from Syria
[edit]Hi
Is it possible to call Syrians to upload photos related about the fall of Assad regime (fall of Aleppo, Hama, Homs, Damascus, Deraa)? Panam2014 (talk) 14:25, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- I will look into this, and ask some friends. But it can be a tricky one as most ordinary people would be hiding at home during such events, even the "day after" period can be stressful.
- I'll do my best and tag you if I can get anything.
- - RamiPat (talk) 23:19, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Panam2014:, I could not find people who have such photos, but one friend of mine will be uploading photos somehow related to that (teared up Ba'athist flags and symbols and photos of Assad in public areas, celebratory events and protests, new flag and new administration symbols in public places)
- They will be uploading them on Wikimedia throughout this week or so I believe. RamiPat (talk) 15:17, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you. Panam2014 (talk) 01:43, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
Official office of Sharaa
[edit]Hi
Do you have sources about the official office that he held? Also source about previous salvation government cabinet. Panam2014 (talk) 14:26, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi
- I don't have that much knowledge about Joulani's positions prior to his current one at HTS. But in terms of "official office" I can be sure that he held none.
- And currently, he's always referred to as "Leader of the New Syrian Administration" by the media.
- For the Salvation Government's ministers, its official website has part in their "who are we?" page that lists the order of governments and their prime ministers, but it does not seem to include more details (such as names of each minister), but in searching the news (including on the website itself) I'm sure you can find the reports from the time of each government's formation and those should include details.
- additionally, when you have a name, this website usually has basic info and past positions of a person, and people and entities associated with them.

Order of battle
[edit]Hi
We should create an new article about the New Army composed by HTS members. Panam2014 (talk) 02:57, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
- Should it be a new article or just the current article about the Syrian Army where the Ba'athist era is just a part of it?
- I was thinking a new article might be needed and the current one can be renamed "Ba'athist" but then I remembered that the Ba'athists weren't always there (sometimes I can forget) and so that naming wouldn't make sense a lot and would neglect the army before the Ba'ath
- I think there is no need for a new article, just moving everything about the Ba'athist army to the "History" section.
- - RamiPat (talk) 14:05, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
- It is not the same structure. In 1963/1970, Baath Party does not formed a new armed forces. Different from now. Like Wermacht which have been formed as a new army then dissolved. Panam2014 (talk) 22:21, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
Hi
Did you know why it ceased to release statments from Administration of Military Operations. I know in 8/10 December, the channel have organized Vox populi in Syrian streets to collect people's reactions about the fall of Assad. Then the channel began to only release statments without journalists. Panam2014 (talk) 22:05, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Panam2014:,
- I have actually noticed people asking about it continuously lately on Syrian social media groups. In this article it says:
Since the fall of the regime last month, Syrian state television has remained silent, raising questions about the reasons. However, the Deputy Director General of the General Organization for Radio and Television, Mohammad al-Sukhni, stated that the channel will soon resume broadcasting from the heart of Damascus. He revealed that the new launch will be different in both form and content, aiming to keep up with recent events.
- Also from the same source
Sources reported that the television headquarters were looted on the night of the regime's collapse. Additionally, they mentioned that [new] Syrian authorities have received offers to restore the radio and television building, though the nature of these offers remains undisclosed.
- Other social media sources have been talking about a soon coming-back after a rebranding and restructuring of the network. Though no official statements have been coming out about the matter. RamiPat (talk) 22:53, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
Idlib Pocket
[edit]Hi
Do you have any idea about creating such page. And what are the administrative divisions which compose it? Panam2014 (talk) 12:53, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I'm not very familiar with the subject RamiPat (talk) 15:45, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
