Information icon Hi QuantumFoam66! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Talk:Ultrakill that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. I don't disagree with your edit, but be careful when marking edits as minor. Thank you for your time. TheWikiToby (talk) 04:26, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm TylerBurden. An edit that you recently made to Finnish language seemed to be a test and has been reverted. If you want to practice editing, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. You can also use the preview function to view your change rather than making it and then reverting yourself. TylerBurden (talk) 12:58, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Category:Video game levels from articles

[edit]

Hello, I thought I would bring it directly to your attention since you have been (incorrectly) removing the category from articles and insisting on it being gone. "Levels" and "locations" are not mutually exclusive and level means any area that the player enters while playing the game, not just an abstract "Mario" style level. A location can be a place that exists in lore but is not a playable area. If you disagree with this, then bring up the definition of "level" at WP:VG before trying to unilaterally remove things, which is disruptive when you are walking in out of nowhere and trying to redefine something that had a perfectly well-established consensus. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 05:27, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. To be clear, I am not necessarily against "level" being redefined, but doing it yourself without input from anyone else is not the way to go about it. People might support your view if you actually proposed it rather than deleting categories from articles. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 05:30, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I was trying to do. A primary location of a game isn't much of a level, as a level is essentially a chapter or sequence players must beat - followed up by about over several other levels. QuantumFoam66 (talk) 20:20, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure where the discussion is where you got consensus to define level as "a chapter or sequence". Level (video games) says "a level (also referred to as a map, mission, stage, course, or round in some older games) is any space available to the player during the course of completion of an objective." It also presents Anor Londo as a notable level. This totally contradicts what you are saying. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 20:57, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I guess, however, you wouldn't call the single huge map that an open world game takes place in a level. QuantumFoam66 (talk) 21:02, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sludge Life, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page First-person adventure game. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello, QuantumFoam66,

Please do not remove all of the contents of a category and then tag it for deletion. This is called "emptying categories out of process" and can result in your edits being reverted (see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion#Ready for deletion). It is especially improper for long-standing categories that have been part of the category hierarchy for years. If you believe a category should be deleted, renamed or merged, please make an nomination at WP:CFD, you'll find instructions there on how to do this.

Please do not empty any more categories out of process, especially long-standing, full categories. If you have questions, please bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 18:01, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects have different deletion criteria than articles

[edit]

Hello, QuantumFoam66. I noticed you were applying WP:AFD reasoning to a couple WP:RFD proposals and discussions. I just wanted to point you to WP:RFD? for the general principles behind changing or removing redirects. Basically, redirects are far less visible to most users and thus have far less of a threshold for inclusion value. In particular, articles that would be deleted at AFD for non-notability are typically acceptable redirects if we have any information on the subject somewhere on wikipedia, such as a sub-section in another article, even if the information we have is very slight. Another useful thing to read would be WP:CHEAP, explaining why the threshold for keeping a redirect is so much lower than at AFD, and WP:INSTEAD showing that this is in fact officially consensus'ed wikipedia policy. I hope this helps you understand why your proposals are failing. Fieari (talk) 05:49, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Please do not edit war to reinsert categories that fail WP:CATDEF into articles as you did on Traveller (role-playing game). As per Wp:BRD if you are bold and add something, and are reverted the Wp:ONUS is on your to take it to the talk page and obtain consensus for the category and not to readd your edit until such time you get that consensus. Thank you. Canterbury Tail talk 00:37, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Nagh Bro Nobody Cares"

[edit]

Hey there. So let me try to help you out. If you don't listen to the advice and efforts to improve your editing of categories, one of two things are likely to happen: You'll be blocked from editing categories, or, blocked from editing the site entirely. Blanking your talk page doesn't erase any of that past communication and the blanking will in fact be used as an argument against you as having a battleground mentality. I'm coming to you as a neutral third party since I received a complaint, and hope you can make an effort to go back, re-read what others were saying to you, particularly @Liz and @Canterbury Tail, and continue editing in good standing. -- ferret (talk) 13:36, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would also have to ask that you (QuantumFoam66) cease editing categories immediately until you can learn about how the system works. You were warned to stop editing categories out of process and then just recently removed everything in Category:Killzone games even before the CfD you proposed for its parent category (why?) was over, in essence supervoting the discussion. It may be true that some of these "___ games" categories should be deleted, but a typical editor would do that in a single bulk discussion and not a bunch of piecemeal nominations, some for the wrong category. As the other couple of editors said that you deleted from your talk page, you are creating a ton of cleanup work for other editors. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 20:02, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looking over the editor's history and their deletion of repeated warnings, I echo everyone's concerns. Mason (talk) 23:29, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So far it seems like QuantumFoam has totally ignored any warning and continued to be equally as disruptive with categories as the day they came onto the scene. Given that they are still doing things out of process I have to say there is a clear WP:CIR issue here. I won't say they necessarily mean poorly because sometimes they are right, but sometimes the mess you create can outweigh any benefits for other editors. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 05:34, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think this rises to ANI? Mason (talk) 23:20, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What is ANI? QuantumFoam66 (talk) 23:24, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Seriously, you need to engage with editors here, otherwise you risk being banned/blocked. Mason (talk) 23:35, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@QuantumFoam66 You are clearly reading your talk page; so why are you refusing to engage with other editors? Mason (talk) 03:33, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mason: A month later and I STILL see several category nominations that go into WP:CIR territory and zero reassurances he will shape up or stop. So yeah, this is absolutely ANI tier at this point. Being wrong is not a problem, but being constantly wrong over numerous months and not agreeing to learn more about things before jumping back in is a major issue. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 18:27, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd support an ANI case. I haven't had a recent run in, but it sounds like you have. Mason (talk) 22:34, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mason: I regularly check video game related noms. And Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 October 19#Category:Video games by narrative genre was unanimously shot down by editors who weren't me. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 October 22#Category:Professional wrestling games I opposed personally, and it was "declined" (that isn't even how Wikipedia works). The fact is that it's being nominated due to supposed non-electronic games but he is unable to actually name any. Overall it suggests unwillingness to collaborate as both of these could have avoided a nom if he just asked someone why they were called what they were called. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 13:13, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My point was that if you make a nomination to ANI, I'm support you because it sounds like you've had more recent run ins to make a case. Mason (talk) 16:57, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Smasongarrison. I noticed that you recently removed content from Category talk:Interactive narrative without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Please stop blanking talk pages. Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Mason (talk) 03:38, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that your recent edit to Category:Call of Duty levels did not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits, an adequate summary may be quite brief.

The edit summary field looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary (or the default undo summary), and then click the "Save" button. Category:Software bugs

[edit]

Hi, it wasn't clear why you removed several articles from this category, so I've restored them. An article like Corrupted Blood incident is very clearly about a software bug. Belbury (talk) 20:51, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

it's because there were automatically merged due to the deletion of Category:Video game glitches but I recreated this category due to being a more specific sub-topic. QuantumFoam66 (talk) 20:54, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, it's particularly worth leaving an WP:EDITSUMMARY when you're changing something because of something else that you plan to do later.
But Category:Video game glitches was deleted by a discussion only a couple of months ago at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 September 11#Category:Video game glitches, it doesn't seem like a useful subcategory. Belbury (talk) 21:01, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just because it was deleted via a discussion doesn't mean you can I do not get to revive it. The reason this it was deleted seems unfaithful to me because the nominator didn't give the greatest reason as to why they asked for deletion, (which was over the fact "only two" things were actual glitches). QuantumFoam66 (talk) 21:04, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You should open a Wikipedia:Deletion review if you disagree with the decision of the admin who closed the discussion. Belbury (talk) 21:08, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can't just revive a category if there has been a full discussion. That is consided grounds for speedy deletation. Techie3 (talk) 16:44, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Video game glitches requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2024_September_11#Category:Video_game_glitches. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. This category was orginally deleted because I felt like it was way too small for a category for a genre; there are no more than these 3 articles (or 4, because Noita would fit but you didn't even add it) that could be added to this category anyway, but still just way too small for a category. and only 3 individual games have their own article. I feel like you're better off deleting this category again for what it is. Other categories such as Cozy games may also need to be discussed. QuantumFoam66 (talk) 03:24, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
