File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Medicinestick.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. ww2censor (talk) 03:51, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

The article Libby Brown has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article, which appeared to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. DMacks (talk) 01:45, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from reverting my edits on the page for Cheltenham High School. I'm trying to settle this with civility, rather than having an edit war. My next step will be to report your editing to an administrator who, I assure you, will side with me. I'm not saying the information is completely out of context. I'm saying that it should be integrated into the larger article, and not included as an "epitaph".

There's also no need to make personal attacks. I assume you were using the word "ignorant" in a pejorative sense, rather than it's conventional meaning, "lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular". I assure you, I have knowledge and awareness of the effect these events had on the United States, and elsewhere. It is the reason why I chose my career path in national defense. But, you seem to lack knowledge and awareness about the purpose of this website. If you would like to learn more about Wikipedia (and why the way you are presenting this information is not appropriate for a Wikipedia article), there are plenty of pages on here about that.

Bmf 51 (talk) 23:57, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what you're reasoning behind including it was. It's wonderful that you take pride in your school, its alumni, and your country. There is nothing wrong with wanting to honor those people. Myself, I visit the 9/11 Pentagon memorial routinely. But, while you do seem aware of the purpose of Wikipedia, I humbly suggest you look at What Wikipedia is not, specifically that Wikipedia is not a memorial site.

If you would like to expand on what I've included about these two people, neither I nor anybody else will stop you, so long as it adheres to the policies listed above. However, anything more than the person's name, a few identifying bits of information, and the reason they are notable would be superfluous. Look at the "Famous People" section of the following article, if you want a good idea of how to rewrite the notable alumni section of the CHS article - University Park, Maryland#Famous_people. Specifically, note that the "September 11, 2001" section doesn't memorialize the victims. Also, it is written from a neutral perspective (while it mentions Americans, it is not blatantly obvious that the person writing it is American, as opposed to someone from another English-speaking country). Keep in mind that Wikipedia is an international site, and not specifically an American one.

Feel free to re-add the image of the plaque into the article. I think the most appropriate place would be the "Notable Alumni" section.

Bmf 51 (talk) 03:20, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good. I changed the heading for the "December 21, 1988" section to "Lockerbie Bombing". September 11, 2001 is synonymous with the 9/11 attacks, but the Lockerbie bombing doesn't immediately come to mind for most people when you mention the date December 21, 1988. This way, people know what the section is about just from the title. That's not a big issue though. Bmf 51 (talk) 21:07, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Talkback

[edit]
Hello, Peetlesnumber1. You have new messages at Talk:Roy Halladay.
Message added 11:27, 9 April 2011 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Hi Peetlesnumber1

Please review WP:N and WP:RS. The sources you added to the above-captioned article are either:

  • not independent of the subject; or
  • only trivial coverage of the subject (such as directory listings).

These do not establish notability.

Regards, Bongomatic 22:48, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Netop Summer Camp, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Bongomatic 01:20, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that only one of the sources provided more than directory-style information on the camp (i.e., not significant coverage, as required under WP:N). The one source that could be argued to provide significant coverage was not independent of the topic, also a requirement of WP:N. Bongomatic 06:40, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Phillies Pictures added

[edit]

Hello, I've noticed you've recently added a lot of pictures to Phillies-related articles. Not all of them are of the best quality as photographs themselves, or capture the essence of their subject very well, or are not located in the most appropriate place in the article (sometimes clustered around a lot of other photographs), or had not had the time to be formatted to the proper size so as to not run in with the extant text. Please use a bit more discretion with adding any more photographs and take your time using the "preview" function to make sure each one is well-suited and placed in the proper manner. Go Phillies! A discussion is taking place as to whether the article County Club Swimming Association of Greater Philadelphia is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/County Club Swimming Association of Greater Philadelphia until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Secret account 07:20, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A note to you: consensus exists and has held at many TfDs that navboxes like {{Wanamaker Athletic Award}} should not exist or be placed in articles unless there is a main list article linking them together. Furthermore, having an external link to a website of questionable reliability is, in my opinion, not appropriate. Perhaps you should consider creating a list for the lead article, Wanamaker Athletic Award, before adding the template to any more articles. Thanks, and happy editing. — KV5Talk01:46, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

An article entitled Philadelphia Sports Congress will be created soon, as that is the group that oversees the recipients of the Wanamaker Athletic Award. Peetlesnumber1 (talk) 01:54, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Butler rivalries

[edit]

I saw your edit summary and want to offer an explanation as to why I'm an advocate of keeping the rivalry templates. I'm a recent grad who's also not very into some of these historic rivalries. That said, although current students and recent alums may not appreciate the rivalries that appear in the templates on the page (except for Xavier), they are absolutely historical rivalries that alumni, which make up the majority of the fan-base, recognize and are fueled by. There is a reason that the ISU game was a sell-out. The fact that the series include over 100 games played for each of the rivalries suggests that the schools are historic rivals, even if they have not played recently in the case of Indiana State. It is important that the article is up-to-date, and there is a lot of current info on there, but it is also important that it recognizes the history of the program, which includes a fierce rivalry with the other in-state schools from the old ICC days, the remnants of which can be seen in the fighting spirit of countless alumni at Hinkle Fieldhouse for every home game. File permission problem with File:Cheltenhamlogo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Cheltenhamlogo.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.cheltenhamtownship.org/pView.aspx?id=3011&catid=25. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Imzadi 1979  01:37, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The template doesn't explain this properly for this situation. The seal was designed and adopted in 1939, so it's not old enough to be public domain. Since this is a photo of the seal, and only the seal, we need proof that the seal itself is in the public domain, or licensed under an acceptable license. (Local government works are not automatically PD like the federal government.) The photographer does not have the right or ability to fully release his photo because it contains protected imagery. If you can locate proof that the seal has been released or otherwise lapsed into the public domain, we really need to err on the side of caution. Imzadi 1979  01:54, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PA 309 southern terminus

[edit]

According to the PennDOT Straight Line Diagrams, the southern terminus of PA 309 is in fact at the PA 611 interchange and not Broad Street. The diagram indicates the Broad Street intersection being a full 915 feet away from the actual southern terminus. Usually the end sign for a route is posted in advance of the terminus and not always at the actual terminus (as indicated in the photo in the article). Also, the sign blade could be an error or the city felt it wasn't necessary to mark southbound PA 309 at the Broad Street intersection since the terminus is a short distance away. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
