DYK for Nkandla compound firepool controversy
On 26 July 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Nkandla compound firepool controversy, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that a controversial pool, built at South African president Jacob Zuma's Nkandla compound and deemed as a "fire pool", has faced "public condemnation"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Nkandla compound firepool controversy. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |
Materialscientist (talk) 01:22, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
This seems like a notable subject. In addition to being referred to as "famous" and as an "institution" in various sources, it also seems to be a significant concert venue and was the site of a famous last meal in a famous murder. Cheers. OrganicEarth (talk) 00:31, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hello @OrganicEarth:. An article about the same restaurant was deleted in 2007; see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vitello's restaurant. You are welcome to start a draft at Draft:Vitello's restaurant, or in your userspace at User:OrganicEarth/Vitello's restaurant, but it may be deleted again for the same reasons. Rather than referring to sources calling it 'famous', you need to establish its notability (see WP:Notability) through the impact its general impact on society. You need secondary sources in order to do so; basically sources independent of the subject talking about it, such as an unconnected newspaper reporter reporting it. Note that a source doesn't have to be solely about the restaurant, but can't just mention it. It may be better for you or NorthAmerica1000 to work on an existing article, if there's anything that needs adding; e.g. at Bonnie Lee Bakley#Death; that section could do with some footnotes. Thanks and happy editing, Rubbish computer 19:06, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

deletion of article
why have you deleted "suvrat raj(student)" article?? You think, that was my own autobiography but it is absolutely wrong. Actually,i have created this account by his name. He is a very famous student of siwan district. Everyone knows him, so, please restore that document.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SUVRAT RAJ (talk • contribs) 16:55, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
- Suvrat Raj(student) was deleted because the article did not state how its subject is important or significant. As such, it qualified for speedy deletion as per WP:A7. I notice that another, new version of the article, Suvrat raj(student), was also deleted by another administrator for the same reason. Wikipedia articles need to have an assertion of significance, and also require significant coverage in reliable sources to establish notability (see WP:BASIC for articles about people). You state that this is not an autobiography, but your user name being the same as the subject's also suggests a potential problem with having a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest regarding the subject. Apparent contradiction in AFD support pages
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Common outcomes#Lists seems to undermine WP:NOTDUPE
Comments? The Transhumanist 04:24, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- @The Transhumanist: Common outcomes is an opinion essay, whereas WP:NOTDUP is a formal editing guideline. As such, the latter has much more overall relevance and gravitas. North America1000 04:28, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- It also confirms that lists are getting deleted regardless of WP:CLN. What can be done? The Transhumanist 04:43, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- @The Transhumanist: I recommend initiating a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Common outcomes, per your concerns regarding this matter. North America1000 04:45, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Hi Northamerica1000.
I'm writing to ask how you came to the conclusion that there was no consensus to delete at WP:Articles for deletion/2015 Shuvat Rachel shooting. Most of the keep !votes were from SPAs whose only other edit was at WP:Articles for deletion/Shooting of Danny Gonen. Also, most of the delete !votes were based on WP:NOT and the keep !votes were based on WP:GNG, and as another editor pointed out, WP:NOT is a policy and WP:N is a guideline.
Thank you in advance for your explanation. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 05:02, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Malik Shabazz: For starters, discussion closures are not based upon a vote count. You state that "most of the keep !votes were from SPAs", but this is not true. Three out of the six straight keep !votes were from established users. Those from SPAs were mostly guideline-based. There is an overall disagreement in the discussion about whether or not the topic is aligned with having enduring notability, as per WP:NOTNEWS. Those for deletion generally stated that this is the case, whereas several for article retention countered this (e.g. "No lasting impact; Wikipedia is not a daily newspaper" versus "The case received much int'l coverage and over a month later, there are still articles that mention it". I'm well aware of the differences between WP:NOT and WP:GNG, but in the discussion, there was disagreement about whether or not WP:NOTNEWS is applicable toward this specific article. As such, no consensus was formed in the discussion. North America1000 05:24, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you. — MShabazz Talk/Stalk 05:42, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 8
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dead & Company, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Capitol Theatre. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Could your give me (userfy) Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Mandalasana?Algircal (talk) 09:20, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Algircal: I'm sorry, but per consensus at the AfD discussion, the content is not suitable for Wikipedia, and Wikipedia is not a web host for the storage of such content. As such, I have to deny this request. North America1000 09:32, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Can you send it to me via email?Algircal (talk) 20:13, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, but as per the above, I'm not willing to do so. The article was deleted per significant consensus in the discussion, and in accordance with Wikipedia policy. As such, the matter is closed. However, if you want to research the topic, check out the Google Books results for the topic below:
- –Also, while the discussion obviously had a strong consensus for deletion, you can contest it at Wikipedia:Deletion review if you'd like. North America1000 20:55, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Please do not amend my closures without asking. Cuba's is not the only winning squad; of the templates listed, only the 2010 and 2012 Trinidad and Tobago ones would be eligible for deletion if that been the outcome. Alakzi (talk) 18:08, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Alakzi: You seem to have ignored the fact that three out of the seven participants in the discussion stated that championship-winning squads should be retained. While deletion discussion closures are not based upon a vote count, there is no consensus there for all of the templates to be deleted. I conferred with another admin (User:Sphilbrick) earlier regarding this matter, who agreed with my undeletion of Template:Cuba squad 2012 Caribbean Cup (I initially deleted it), stating "that's fine" (see diff). Since Sphilbrick deleted the other templates, I will notify them about this discussion. North America1000 03:04, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- Let's not read too much into my action. I saw some templates listed at CSD, I looked at the reason, which linked to a deletion discussion which appeared to be closed properly, so I deleted them all. Northamerica1000 suggested that one was not like the others and undeleted it. Sounded plausible. It now sounds like perhaps the consensus wasn't as clear as originally appeared. I'll leave it up to those involved to determine whether it should be reopened and revisited, but don't read too much into my decision to delete. It originally seem like an open and shut issue it no longer does.--S Philbrick(Talk) 03:16, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Sphilbrick: Thanks for the reply. Just for the sake of accuracy, I deleted Template:Cuba squad 2012 Caribbean Cup, but upon considering the overall weight of arguments at the TfD, I restored it (see deletion log). North America1000 03:23, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
- That is all well and good, but why did you not consult with me first? Would you not extend an admin this courtesy? In that regard, I find your action somewhat distasteful. Whether you've conferred with another admin is completely irrelevant.
- I disagree that there wasn't a consensus to delete the lot. It wasn't three, but one editor who was in support of keeping the champion rosters; Frietjes had said that she was indifferent, and Dirtlawyer1 concurred. If we're to count the nominator, there were four people who were in agreement to delete them all, and they had the backing of a WP:FOOTY consensus, as stated in the nomination, which I weighted slightly in their favour. Alakzi (talk) 05:23, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

- Thanks for the reply and input. Upon further consideration, I have deleted Template:Cuba squad 2012 Caribbean Cup, per the fact that one user stated that they were "and indifferent for the rest" regarding the championship winning squads, and per another user stating "Delete non-champion roster templates per Frietjes' comment above", which implies, but does not directly state that the "per" !vote is also indifferent toward the championship winning squads.
