The article The Silver Lining (1915 film) has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:07, 1 January 2018 (UTC)

Peter Whitehead (sport shooter)

Hi Lugnuts. As you may recall, in 2014, Peter Whitehead (sport shooter), which you created, was moved to Percy Whitehead, leaving behind a redirect. FYI, I have nominated the redirect for deletion, to minimise potential confusion. I'm notifying you in case you wish to participate in the redirect discussion. Regards. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2017–18 Zonal T20 League, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ankit Sharma (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Nomination of Dorel Vișan for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Dorel Vișan is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dorel Vișan until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. @মাখামাখি: We have a fine and sourced article at ro:Dorel Vișan, and considering Vișan has been a prominent figure in Romanian film since the 70s, and there is no shortage of sources, I can only see one outcome of the AFD discussion. Add to that the fact that you failed to transclude the AFD in the log, failed to add the proper template to the article, and have partly copy-pasted a rationale from one of blocked sock User:HindWIKI's nominations, including his signature hallmark code for the user talk page link <span style="font-size: x-small;">Connect</span>]]''', and retained the <s></s> tags I had added per WP:SOCKSTRIKE to whatever namination you copy-pasted from, and added your own false timestamp 04:45 despite the time was 10:41, it's easy to conclude: you are not ready for nominating articles for deletion. If you wish to withdraw your nomination, you may choose to follow WP:WDAFD and add * {{Withdraw}} <Your brief explanation.> ~~~~ immediately below your nomination statement at the top of the AFD discussion. Their intention looks good to me, but the enthusiasm seems to be at 11 – I hope they heed some of the advice they have been given and turn it down a notch. Numerous of their stubs are relevant, but could do with better sourcing, which could avoid some of the deletion tags. Perhaps going through AFC would be good in this case. When creating sport stub articles, or any other stubs for that matter, please remember to "Leave two blank lines between the first stub template and whatever precedes it." (WP:STUBSPACING) It's a minor, issue I know, but you create a lot of stubs. Because the guidance on this is unambiguous, why not simply do what it says. IMDb references have been removed after additional sources to NZ On Screen, a state sponsored website, were inserted in the Music credits. According to Wikipedia:Citing IMDb, citation of an actor's name is not an inappropriate use if it can be corroborated elsewhere. While the "elsewhere" in this case is not WPA or MPAA, in the NZ On Screen footage all the named personnel are shown in the closing credits, and the Awards are likewise listed. Since this validates the IMDb references, there should be no need to delete them. The header information states, "The IMDb should be used only as a tertiary source for hard data on released films." Since secondary sources are now supplied, the IMDb can act as tertiary sources without violating Wikipedia policy. Unless you have a reference stating that IMDb should never be used under any circumstances, even as a tertiary source (in which case a bot should go through all Wikipedia articles erasing IMDb references), then the IMDb references should be reinstated. Chrisdevelop (talk)

@Lugnuts: Can you please supply a link to an article that sets out the official Wikipedia policy on IMDb referencing?

WP:CITEIMDB and WP:RS/IMDB. It's not a reliable source in itself, so other sources must be used. Basically if IMDb says X, then it should be verified with another WP:RS elsewhere. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:11, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for the links. On checking these, it appears that the criterion was satisfied by the NZ On Screen citations as to personnel and awards. It was understandable before the new links were added, but given that the information is now verified by NZ On Screen as secondary source and is identical, can the IMDb links be reinstated as a tertiary source as laid out in the policy? Chrisdevelop (talk)
There's no need, as it's been verified with NZ On Screen. Basically we don't use IMDb as an inline source on any article on WP. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:26, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
@Lugnuts: The link you sent states that IMDb can be used as a tertiary source only when a verifiable secondary source citation corroborates it, not that it cannot be used under any circumstances. Questionable resources: "The use of the IMDb on Wikipedia as a sole reference is usually considered unacceptable and is discouraged." In the Crush article, none of the deleted citations was a sole reference as NZ On Screen provides the required secondary source. Chrisdevelop (talk)
We don't use IMDb as a reference in articles. Ever. I've tried to explain it the best I can, but if you want more answers, please start a thread at the Film Project. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:27, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
That's not what it says in the links you shared. They state that IMDb can be used as a tertiary resource only if a verifiable secondary source as adduced alongside, a condition that was satisfied in the updates posted to the Crush article. Moreover, the use is described as contentious, not as a hard and fast rule. I'll take a look at the Film Project link. Meanwhile, what is the equivalent movie database that can be used in place of IMDb that has the same information in it? Chrisdevelop (talk)
@Chrisdevelop: Here from the film project, and wow, this is a really pointless argument. Even if you weren't misreading the pages on IMDb sourcing, which you are, there is already a reliable source to back up the award nomination. Multiple sources are not needed to corroborate the same information. Furthermore, WP:CITEIMDB clearly says that the things acceptable to be sourced by IMDb are:
  1. The writing credits marked with "WGA" that are supplied directly by the Writers Guild of America (where applicable).
  2. The MPAA ratings reasons, where they appear, that are supplied directly by the Motion Picture Association of America.
Furthermore, WP:RS/IMDB says that IMDb can be used as a great gateway into finding reliable sources. Frankly, we can use IMDb how other resources would use Wikipedia. You would never cite Wikipedia in a college paper, but you may use Wikipedia to lead you to a source that you could cite. We use IMDb in the same way, as, almost exactly like Wikipedia, it is almost entirely user-created and edited. Lugnuts explained everything perfectly, I'm basically just doing a long-winded reiteration to clarify that he's telling you the truth. Sock (tock talk) 19:37, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Reflist

May I ask why you removed the multi-column function for the reflist in Emanuel Buchmann? I know this is not a matter of life and death, but at least I think the columned version is nicer and makes the article look tighter, especially with the perspective of the reflist getting longer in the future. Zwerg Nase (talk) 12:25, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

Retain

The official ICC media release writes this line : "The South African retained the David Shepherd Trophy for ICC Umpire of the Year."

https://www.icc-cricket.com/news/596794

What's the problem in using that? Retain means to keep possession of something and is well applicable. A simple Google search of "retain award" will bring up countless such usage of the word. Moreover ICC media release is the official source. Cricket246 (talk) 18:35, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

It's the wrong word. If he doesn't win it next year, you wouldn't say he lost it, would you? You retain a league title, but something like this is awarded annually. Compare with a film award - a director would not "retain" the Oscar for Best Director, he or she would simply win it again. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:37, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

Ok fine I take that but what's the reason for changing the source? The ICC media release is the official source of this award announcement so shouldn't it be the reference used? Cricket246 (talk) 18:39, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

Cricket South Africa is a WP:RS. There was no reason to change it from that one. And he's South African. Ergo... Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:40, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Matt! Good to hear from you. Only saw the race results for the TDU on here. Merge, redirect or delete?

Hi Lugnuts, Pontificalibus had merged the statistics of most runs and redirected the original page to Indian cricket team in South Africa in 2017–18 in this edit, which you subsequently deleted. I've proposed a merge from a similar article Most wickets in South Africa Vs India Test Series 2018. As you've deleted those stats per WP:NOTSTATS, should the merger proposal stay or do both those articles be nominated for AfD/CSD? Thanks, MT TrainDiscuss 14:18, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

Both should be deleted, as we simply don't need them. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:20, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

Siegfried Lorenz

When you want to move a page without leaving a redirect, can you do one of two things next time? Fix the wrong links yourself BEFORE the move, or notify the relevant project IN ADVANCE, also for finding out which name is best. Sorry for shouting, but I really had better things to do than fixing those links, to avoid our readers ending up on a disambiguation page. Lucky I was online, and noticed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:15, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

I didn't forget, I wasn't in the mood for "please". Years ago, when a friend's name was made a disambiguation page, I turned furious. Mwendwa/Muthui

Hey, I'm a bit confused by this situation! The squads page had Gerald Muthui listed, but when I looked at the CricInfo squad list it had Gerard Mwendwa listed instead, as did the citation for the squad used in the article. Plus CricInfo has U19 WC games listed on Mwendwa's profile and none on Muthui's. So I changed the squad page to list Mwendwa. I see you've added the details from Muthui's profile (DOB, bat/bowl) to Mwendwa's listing but not changed the name back - are you saying that they're one and the same and CricInfo has produced two profiles by accident? Similar first names, one of the surnames is actually a middle name etc? Just a bit puzzled! Cheers, HornetMike (talk) 17:07, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi @HornetMike: - Yep, I'm 99.99% sure Cricinfo have two profiles for the same player. This is does happen from time to time with new players. Looks like in some cases he uses his middle name as his last name. They usually merge the two together pretty quickly. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:55, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
@HornetMike: - Cricinfo have now updated their site. Gerald Muthui is the correct name and the page for Gerard Mwendwa no longer exists. Thanks for spotting it in the first place. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:16, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Why did u delete my contents on Folco Quilici? They are all true and come from a copy-paste of Folco Quilici official website where I placed myself the license at the bottom of the page. [1] Can you undo please? I will link the source at each paragraph if you take everything how it was. Please? thx -paolotamag

Update: actually I did change the page already adding everything back and citing the reference at each paragraph! Please to do not delete this time! A question: the official website is quite old and i am not sure how long it will still last I was transferring the content to wikipedia so it was not going to be lost! When the website goes down does the content get canceled because it would be again unreferenced? -paolotamag

Well for one, you didn't source any of it, and two, you've just copy and pasted all the text direct from an external website. Which is not allowed. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:04, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

I do not have the time to rephrase any of that content just to make you happy sir. I own the material, I set up a license for making that material free to use for anyone, that website is quite old and forgotten and it will not last long, please be reasonable. Just think in 50 years, everything we know about this film director will be hard to find, even lost, if we don't transfer that content to the wikipedia page and the website goes down. Is that what you want? Is this why you spend all this time on wiki? making sure stories of directors get lost? Check here the rules sir. Paolotamag 10:47, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Ok fine i did some research on you, you look legit, so tell me, if I rephrase every sentence in there, you will be fine with that? what about pictures? At the end of the html page[2], there is this note:

The content of this page is available for modification and reuse under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License and the GNU Free Documentation License.

is this enough for sharing the photos from that page?

Folco is my granfather, he is not feeling too well. It looked really bad to have just few infos of his work on wiki and I wanted to help. Bongani Jele

We can have minimum tabular statistics for all umpires as per Wikipedia guidelines... We have that for all top umpires so why can't we have it for Bongani Jele? Wikipedia guidelines clearly state that limited statistics are allowed for the benefit of readers so why are reverting that? Cricket246 (talk) 08:50, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

They're all superfluous tables, borderline esoteric, with very little value to help the reader. It's just replicating data that's already available at a better source. There's no reason to include it at all. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:54, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

We need to get more consensus... It's there for all Elite umpires... Me or you alone should not change a long standing Wikipedia tradition Cricket246 (talk) 10:13, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

There is an existing consensus - WP:NOSTATS. "Tradition" is argumentum ad populum. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 10:14, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

That's a bare minimum of stats and anyone wanting a small glimpse will find it beneficial... Even in pages of football referees we have such limited stats... What's the harm in including only the first and latest matches in formats in tabular form? You shouldn't delete it without consensus... It's a long standing tradition in umpires' pages that being from Steve Bucknor to Richard Kettleborough Cricket246 (talk) 10:16, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Once again, WP:NOSTATS is the consensus. I don't give a shit about football referees. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 10:16, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Berlin

My main way of determining which films at Berlin are LGBT-related is to consult the Teddy Award website, because sometime between the announcement of the complete Berlin lineup and the first actual day of the festival the Teddy committee releases an initial list of all the LGBT-related films that are going to be up for Teddy consideration. According to their website, it's currently due to be released on February 6. Unfortunately I don't know of any other way to comprehensively determine which films are LGBT-related before the Teddy program comes out, but at least it's only a few more days' wait. Bearcat (talk) 18:34, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Superb - thanks for your help and the heads-up. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:35, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
That said, looking at what's already listed on the main festival article I think it's a pretty safe bet to just go ahead and list Tranny Fag right away, at the very least... Bearcat (talk) 18:40, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

I started adding some films to List of lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender-related films of 2018 this evening, although I'm not done yet. So far I've come across two films in their list that are actually from 2017, Invasion and High Fantasy, that are actually from 2017, but both already have articles — but so far, almost everything I've added to the 2018 list is still a redlink. They also list Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot, but I'm holding off on listing that one anywhere for now — because it's a biopic about a real person who wasn't known to have been LGBT at all, I don't know whether there's any actual LGBT content in the film, or whether they're including it just because it was directed by Gus Van Sant, so that may have to wait until there are actual critical reviews to properly verify one way or the other. Umpire stats

Is there any way by which umpire stats can be included in infoboxes?? What's the process of initiating such a proposal in the project?? Just like we have the info in the various pages of cricket stadia about debut and latest matches we can have same for umpires... No pointless tables yet the information will be there... Please give this idea a thought!! Cricket246 (talk) 15:54, 2 February 2018 (UTC) Cricket246 (talk) 15:54, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Qualifiers

You don't like pages to remain the same??

2018 U19 CWC

Every single senior cricket tournament page has a Statistics subsection [typically at or close to the end of the article] which summarizes the top 5 performers batting and bowling wise. This is apart from stating the top batsman and bowler within the box at the beginning. Why do you deem it not necessary for the 2018 U19WC page to have the same statistics?

DizzyNN (talk) 18:26, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

removed the stats and future players form all such tournaments. Hope that's ok.

Sport

Hey, I know I've seen you working on sports related articles in the past. They're well outside my circle of competence, but you were the first person that came to mind who knows sport. This editor looks to have had quite a go at creating about a half dozen unreferenced sports BLPs today. I PRODDED one to see if they might fix it, but then looking at their editing history, it's pretty sporadic and it wouldn't be odd for them to be off for the duration of a PROD. But, I... really just wouldn't know the first place to look for an RS about Hungarian footballers, even just one to save them from PRODs. So I figured I'd drop you a note in case you did. GMGtalk 01:39, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

@GreenMeansGo: - thanks for the question and appreciate you thinking of me to come to. Football isn't really something I know too much about. As far as I know, they have to have played one match in a fully professional league. I think the best place to seek clarity would be the WP:FOOTY project. And, of course, the unref'd BLP issue is the main concern. Hopefully they're a new editor who doesn't know all the details of sourcing and/or notability and can be guided in the right direction. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:17, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

About International awards

I noticed that you have deleted every Man of the Match table from recent players. But the thing is if you want delete them, just delete them in all the players who received them. For example delete the awards taken by Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasuriya, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli. Do not delete the tables in particular articles. DELETE all the awards in all the PLAYERS.. If so, you want delete the whole pages of Tendulkar, Jayasuriya, Ponting and Dravid. Achievements of Sachin Tendulkar, List of ODI Awards for Sachin Tendulkar, International awards by Sanath Jayasuriya, List of awards and achievements of Rahul Dravid.. Thanks. Gihan Jayaweera (talk) 11:34, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

@Gihan Jayaweera: Sure, but there's a lot of them, as lots of sub-continent fan-boys insisted on adding them. Thankfully, they'll all now be removed, one by one, but it will take some time. I'll removed them as I find them. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:06, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

I think they'd easily be deleted at AfD - it's just a collection of stats, with no context in each article. The Sanath Jayasuriya one is a pretty bad example of WP:NOTSTATS. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:11, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Psychic TV

Hi Lugnuts. I'm trying to source some of the 21 Psychic TV albums put up for deletion without considering WP:ATD-R. It's all the "Live releases" seen in Template:Psychic TV, minus Descending and Mein-Goett-In-Gen. What do you think about this? Coincidence? Sam Sailor 13:30, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi Sam. Funny you mention this, as I saw a load of Psychic TV albums at AfD and it started my mind-a-thinkin'. Now roll back to August 2016, would you believe it? I'm 100% sure it's the same editor. Foley had a habit of doing the same bulk album nominations for similar bands. On a side note, I don't have any Psychic TV albums, but I have a few Throbbing Gristle ones knocking around. Let me know if you need anything for an WP:SPI case. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:37, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
Let's have a look at it before filing anywhere. It isn't socking as such, is it? (Later comment: but it's likely IP socking to avoid violation of their editing restriction.)
1. It looks more like a WP:CLEANSTART where they return to editing their favourite topics. Lachlan Foley (talk · contribs) (LF) made their last edit 2015-08-06, FamblyCat94 (talk · contribs) (FC) was created 2016-04-20.
2. Genres: One of LF's pet peeves was genre changes/deletions. FC received a uw-genre4 warning from Binksternet on 2016-06-01 (it is one of the multilevel warning templates where 4im does not exist). Later that month, FC wrote in regards to genre deletions on their talk page in § Why are you deleting genres from multiple articles? that I have been a valuable contributor to Wikipedia for years in different forms and have worked on thousands of articles. You commented on that.
3. {{Notability|music}}: LF was put under editing restrictions and indefinitely prohibited from adding notability tags (broadly construed) to articles (diff). I can't see FC has added any notability tags, they make little use of edit summaries.
4. But LF had a previous history of block evasion, see e.g. Special:Diff/671773288/672697395, and at least two IPs, 165.228.231.15 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) and 120.150.60.104 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) may or may not be related: they edit in the same area of interest and have often added {{notability|music|date=Month 2016}} tags, look for +39 bytes and +40 bytes in their contribs. Many of these tags were reverted by Edgar181. Editor Interaction Analyser for all four.
5. Editing identical articles (WP:IDENTICAL):
  • FamblyCat94 has made 3650 main space edits. (Do we have a tool that shows how many different articles an editor has edited?) Counting lines in the Editor Interaction Analyser, FC has edited 685 articles that were previously edited by LF.
  • Summing up FC's edit count in the Editor Interaction Analyser report gives 1166 edits. (That is live edits only.) I.e. roughly 1/3 of FC's article edits are to articles LF also edited.
6. Uploads: FC's uploads of cover art resemble LF's uploads (WP:SOCK#Uploading of multimedia): FC upload log vs. LF upload log.
7. Creations: The 108 articles created by FC are in the same area of interest as were the 158 articles created by LF.
8. AFD: Let's look at AFD Stats for the two accounts:
  • LF almost exclusively participated as nominator at AFD. FC has exclusively participated as nominator at AFD.
  • The kind of articles they nominate are quite similar too, mostly albums and singles/songs.
  • The individual nomination on the same day of 5–10–15–20 album/song articles by the same artist is another shared hallmark. Doomsdayer520 made a comment on FC's talk page on February 15.
  • ATD-R could save us a lot of time at AFD. LF rarely redirected (look for "Redirect" outcomes in their AFD stats) and FC's AFD stats looks pretty identical in that regard. Sergecross73 made a comment on FC's talk page on February 16.
  • Their matched/didn't match stats are quite similar too, FWIW.
  • The first article FC nominates for deletion, Propaganda (The Sound album) (diff), was previously nominated for deletion by LF (diff). The "keep" outcome of the 2nd AFD is very clear.
  • Likewise, FC nominated Live at Angkor Wat and Requiem (Killing Joke album) for deletion a second time. LF had nominated both of them the first time.
  • And all the following articles were nominated for deletion by FC, and had been edited in the past by LF and/or one of the IPs:
Legend:
    †: Previously edited by LF
††: {{notability}} previously added by LF
    ‡: Previously edited by 165.228.231.15 or 120.150.60.104
    ‡‡: {{notability}} previously added by 165.228.231.15 or 120.150.60.104
TL;DR: I agree with you, I think it's him. I also think he has been adding notability tags as an IP editor to avoid violating his editing restriction.
Where do we go from here? ANI? And do we go now? Is there enough evidence of disruption?
Would the editors mentioned above weigh in? Courtesy ping Michig and Richard3120 who have participated in many of the recent AFD discussions. Sam Sailor 20:18, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks! I must admit, with an extra two-and-a-half days off this week due to the um... Siberian conditions, it has given me a bit more time to do them earlier than usual. Hi Lugnuts - I'm writing about an article you created last October. I'm not a cricket expert, and I don't feel comfortable in trying to fix this: There are two espncricinfo.com information links in Zia-ul-haq (Afghan cricketer, born 1995), neither of which are correct. The one used in reference #1, for player profile 914167, doesn't work (code 404). The link used in the infobox and the External links section, player profile 568141, is for an Afghan player named Zia-ul-haq but whose birthday is September 1999. I don't know whether or not there are two Zia-ul-haqs playing cricket from Afghanistan, or whether this is just a cross-up of the information on one player. PKT(alk) 20:05, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

@PKT: - Thanks for spotting that. I've moved it to the correct year of birth and updated the Cricinfo links. The 914167 was originally at this name. From time to time, Cricinfo does have duplicate entries for players (esp. from Asia) and updates and merges their records as and when they discover this. Thanks again! Articlecount

>44,708 is the actual statement. But, sorry, you do simply mass instead of class. When I see this, my frustration grows and grows. Not even the win of the Olympic Gold Medail is mentioned in the article. And the article is not a box or a template. It's the text. You simply throw something in Wikipedia like wood in a sea - and then it can sink. You don't have written ANYTHING about her career. Starting as Track-and-Fielder, then comming to Bobsport. Starts and wins in the world cup, participations in World championships, Junior World championships and European championships. Nothing is mentiones. You are not interested in this. You just wanna be the first who created this "article" (ofcourse, this is not an article). The real work should do the others. And you then have your high articlecount. But it's wortless.
