[edit]Hello, Lappspira. 2015 Swedish submarine wreck discovery, an article you either created or significantly contributed to, has been nominated to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page as part of Did you know. DYK for 2015 Swedish submarine wreck discovery
[edit]On 10 August 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2015 Swedish submarine wreck discovery, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the submarine wreck found off the Swedish east coast in July 2015 was most likely the Russian Som that sank in 1916? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2015 Swedish submarine wreck discovery. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Constituent countries of the UK
[edit]In a recent edit to the Geology of Europe template you dismissed the constituent countries of the United Kingdom as not being 'proper countries' - just 'football countries' then later removed them entirely. This view is contested by many Wikipedians and considerable discussion over a long period of time has led to statements being included on the webpages of those countries that they are indeed countries - see for example Talk:Wales and Talk:Countries of the United Kingdom/refs. This issue is not just about football but is about the political history of these geographical entities. People will search that template for mention of the geology of each of England, Scotland and Wales - why not retain them in the way that Geowriter suggested? The UK is in fact a special case in this regard, just as there are special cases in other topics. cheers Geopersona (talk) 18:34, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- You view is understandable from an Anglo-Saxon point of view. This version of Wikipedia is written in English but has to contain a world wide view. Lappspira (talk) 06:43, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- That may be so - but the UK does still remain something of a special case - partly reflected by the 'football countries' issue. Geopersona (talk) 07:52, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
You appear to be a fairly new editor and with this edit you removed a whole large section of this featured article but you failed to leave behind a section summery with a link to the now main article. At least a few paragraph are really necessary similar to other sections that also have main articles. I doubt the article can possibly remain featured when such a large and important section is missing. ww2censor (talk) 10:47, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- Feature article? It has severe problems. I have now done a sort of restoration and tagged many paragraphs that lack citations to comply with Wikipedia rules and FA criteria. The article is at risk of being stripped of its FA-status. –Lappspira (talk) 10:59, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

List of reefs page move
[edit]I've moved it back. You moved List of reefs to List of coral reefs with the reason "...Not all reefs are of coral..." That seems backwards, right? :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:32, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
- Anna Frodesiak, so far I am concerned there are reefs that are not made of coral. Sometimes "reef" is meant to imply "coral reef", but not always and in Wikipedia we need clarity. And to include all reefs whether coral or not in a list is an impossible task not suitable for Wikipedia. Lappspira (talk) 04:37, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Svecofennian orogeny article
[edit]Hello Lappspira,
In the first sentence of the Svecofennian orogeny article, you have described this orogeny as a composite orogeny. I'm not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean that it was a set of orogenic phases analogous to e.g. the Grampian, Scandian, Taconian phases (among others) of the Caldeonian orogeny? My understanding of a composite orogeny is that it is a relatively long-duration orogeny that a creates a mosaic or patchwork of accreted microcontinental terranes by a set of orogenic deformation phases. I think the Svecofennian orogeny article would benefit from clarification and expansion of the meaning of composite orogeny. I'd be interested to learn of your opinion about this. GeoWriter (talk) 20:18, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment GeoWriter. I will try to clarify the issue. "Composite" is my own wording in an attempt to be concise and avoid close paraphrasing. A source I used states the Svecofennian orogen is "divisible into the linear Lapland-Savo, Svecobaltic and Nordic orogens and the equidimensional Fennia orogen" (Lahtinen et al, 2014). The same authors states that these sub-orogens (my word) were not all parallel to each other which would explain the "equidimensional" shape of the Svecofennian orogen (in other words why the Svecofennian orogen is of compact shape and not elongate as most other orogens are). –Lappspira (talk) 04:50, 8 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I think the unusual non-linear shape of the orogen is well worth including in the article and I am looking forward to reading your clarification of composite in the article. GeoWriter (talk) 09:37, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of A. I. Popov
[edit]The article A. I. Popov has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- sources are so vague that this almost qualifies for a BLP PROD. are there any other sources for this guy? if not I doubt that he qualifies for notability.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. InsertCleverPhraseHere 00:06, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

What are you expecting with this? Please mark the actual problems you see rather than a blanket section tag, as this passed WP:FA much as it is now. There are 10 citations in this section and just 2 very short paragraphs without one. Please be more specific and add {{cn}} tags where you think they are actually needed or respond on the article's talk page. Thanks ww2censor (talk) 16:29, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
- ww2censor, your question is a bit strange. When I see some issue on page put an inline tag. The the issue appears on many phrases I put a tag on the head. Lappspira (talk) 16:52, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
- Strange? I don't see the problem which is why I asked. Can you be more specific in what you consider the problems. Your tag is too general as I already pointed out. You seem to want more citations, so where do you want them? What statements do you consider could be questioned that would require a citation? ww2censor (talk) 17:16, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
- ww2censor, I think I have addressed your concern. I will check out for more problems in the article soon when I have time to check that sources are actually backing the content. Keep an eye on the article so we can continue to improve it so it does not lose its FA status. Lappspira (talk) 17:38, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
- It's on my watchlist. So, surprise surprise, you happened to jump onto the two short paragraphs without citations. I have added citations to both but moved one "cn" tag up. I presume that may have been synthesis gleened from one of the sources but I have not found it. I think it might be a bit more productive all around if you provided a citation or two instead of tagging the article, especially considering it is an FA. Thanks ww2censor (talk) 22:10, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

Southernmost city (with over 10,000,000 people)
[edit]How is Buenos Aires 10,000,000 people when it has just over 2,9 million within city limits? If you mean the metro area (which is of course over 13 million people), then it should be noted in that list. São Paulo has over 20 million people which also boast a larger metro area.
So how this is clarified? Roif456 (talk) 09:42, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
- One has to make a difference between de jure and de facto. That the Argentine state has separated, administratively, the core of BA from the rest of the city does not mean the city is just that sole place. Lappspira (talk) 11:13, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
Goplans
[edit]Hi Lappspira, I wanted to let you know that I removed your edit/wikilink in the Goplans article. The software doesn't like wikilinks in reference titles because it conflicts with the url link. Cheers! Leschnei (talk) 14:09, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
- Good afternoon, Leschnei. I am confused. First I did not wikilinked the reference title, just the journal where it is published. Geographia Polonica is a scientific journal not a book, and should be cited accordingly. Seconad the external link in journals is usually provided for articles, not for the journal itself. In books, if possible, the external link should go to the chapter.. –Lappspira (talk) 14:18, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry, I meant the book title, not reference title. According to Template:Cite book, a title "Can be wikilinked to an existing Wikipedia article or url may be used to add an external link, but not both". The reference ends up looking like this:[1]
- ^ [[Geographia Polonica]]. Polish Scientific Publishers. 1974.
{{cite book}}

- and the wikilink doesn't work. Supposedly 'title-link' can be used, but I haven't gotten it to work. Leschnei (talk) 14:29, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

I am very sorry to see that you have now again inserted your top-level section into this major article. According to the normal WP:BRD cycle, you boldly proposed it, I reverted it with an appropriate explanation that it was WP:UNDUE and far too prominent for such a minor topic, and you should as an experienced editor have gone to the talk page to discuss it. Instead I regret that you have seen fit to replace it, with equal prominence. Had you been an IP or newbie doing this, I would have templated you for edit-warring, so I am disappointed in your conduct. I have started a discussion on the talk page and will put a notice on the relevant project, but frankly I can't begin to see why you think the topic should be of equal status with the whole of "Modern Science" which gets a single top-level chapter. A starred entry in the "See also" list would surely be quite sufficient. Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:27, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
The article Studentlitteratur has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (companies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nordfjord-Sogn Detachment
[edit]Hi Lappspira, when I created the Nordfjord-Sogn Detachment article I balked at adding any references to my own work, but as that seems the simplest way to provide source references for some of the statements, I have now added citations to my 1987 paper. Could you check that that paper does provide support for those statements as I am not exactly unbiased in this regard. Thanks, Mikenorton (talk) 19:45, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thak you for your commentary Mikenorton. I have checked your article and with the Wikipedia article and things seem fine. I can also tell you I have recently created the articles Western Gneiss Region and Scandinavian Caledonides that I now linked in the Nordfjord-Sogn Detachment article. —Lappspira (talk) 21:14, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

Conceening categories
[edit]I have 2 questions please First Sophus Thalbitzer is about a straight ally doctor who like Evelyn Hooker helped to decriminalise homosexuality in Denmark His categories are only LGBT history in Denmark But i added the categories of sexual orientation and psychology and the one of sexual orientatiin and science just like those of Evelyn Hooker ones. So should Evelyn Hooker be added to LGBT history in the US category Should Evelyn hooker and dophus trablitzer both be added to the category of LGBT activists in the us and in denmark resoectively Since that category contains a lot of LGBT allies and friends and scientists or what?
Second the page Lesbian Movement (Denmark) is in the category of LGBt history in denmark It is an lgbt assiciation that is defunct now Should it be put in LGBt assiciatii's in denmark category or what Or be created in a new categor of defunct lgbt association in the denmark as i qaw this category with many associatiins Or what what do u think Sorry for the bother again This may sound stupid and unnecessary for some But it is so important and improving believe me AdamPrideTN (talk) 01:49, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Russian geomorphologists
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Russian geomorphologists indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Karelia (historical province of Finland)
[edit]Hello.
I am in full agreement with you that Swedish is a language on Finland. That is to say the modern Finnish republic.
However, this article is about a historical province, and in similarity to my last point, I don't really see the point of Russian on the opener. Veldig Viktig (talk) 21:34, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
- Veldig Viktig, where there not there people speaking Russian inhabiting the province back then? Lappspira (talk) 01:17, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- No idea. I believe you. I think the best remedy in that situation then is to move the heavy-loaded section onto a different part of the article. I'll give it a try so you can assess it after. Veldig Viktig (talk) 06:04, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
