Yardley
I wondered if you had anything in your books about Norman Yardley. I'm probably taking him to FAC but it needs a bit more on his personal life and there seems to be very little about him anywhere. Thanks! --Sarastro1 (talk) 23:07, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
List of Test triple centuries
Me again! As you are the list-master, I wondered if you feel like fixing up List of Test cricket triple centuries, which may be in trouble. I'd do something myself but I am rubbish at tables! I can get hold of a decent source if you are interested. Personally, I wouldn't know where to start. --Sarastro1 (talk) 16:10, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
FAC
I see the FAC for Somerset County Cricket Club in 2009 closed without enough supports to promote; a pity, as I thought it was ready. If you decide to nominate it again, drop me a note on my talk page and I'll be glad to support again. Mike Christie (talk) 22:57, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Headley
Thanks for the kind words and image clean up! Looks better. --Sarastro1 (talk) 09:51, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks again. For this one, though, I'm fairly sure its not PD after all, so it might not last long! Apparently Australian images are only PD before 1946, but I'm still checking. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:52, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
DYK for 2010–11 Stanbic Bank 20 Series
On 29 November 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article 2010–11 Stanbic Bank 20 Series, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that West Indian batsman Brian Lara came out of retirement to play in the 2010–11 Stanbic Bank 20 Series, a Twenty20 cricket tournament in Zimbabwe? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Sammy Woods
Hi again, Thanks for inviting me to look at User:Harrias/sandbox4 it is looking really good & so much better than Sammy Woods. I am still fighting with the wikiproject cleanup listing & wondered if you might be nearly ready to transfer from your sandbox to article space - as this would clear lots of entries from the cleanup listing. If there is anything I can do to help (with my very limited knowledge of cricket) please let me know.— Rod talk 09:06, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- No worries - it must be getting near a 5x expansion already, but mid Dec would be fine. The cleanup list has just been updated (61 left on the list) & I'll use that for 1st Dec, I will not be updating the numbers again till 1st Jan.
- BTW did you see the opportunity to meet Jimmy Wales in Bristol - more info Bristol wikiproject talk page.— Rod talk 18:00, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- Congratulations.— Rod talk 18:51, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your excellent work on Sammy Woods. He's an especial favourite of mine, and I've long been conscious that the article needed expansion and improvement (I did a bit of tinketing at one point, but couldn't spare the time to give the article the major overhaul that it needed). A few suggestions. I hope that you'll find room for one of the famous stories about his struggles with the Cambridge examiners. I think they tell you something about him, even though they would need to be caveated as possibly apocryphal. I imagine that you intend to expand the section on his captaincy of Somerset. His remark about "draws" - ie "drawers" only being good for bathing in is a classic. I think the material that was in the first and third paras of the "Other Notes" section also should find a place. Also I like the description of him by AA Thomson that used to be quoted in the introduction; I think it gives one the flavour of the man. It ought to be mentioned that it was off Woods that Grace scored the boundary to take him to his 100th century, and that Woods supposedly deliberately bowled a full toss. As you probably realise, the Categories are currently missing. JH (talk page) 18:19, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
- That all sounds good. I think that whoever added all those tags was being rather over-zealous. It was not a great article, but certainly not as bad as the number of tags would suggest. I'll help when/if I can find the time, but that seems to have been in short supply recently, so my help may lie more in making suggestions or in fine-tuining what you've written, rather than actually writing anything myself. DYK for Ryan Butterworth
On 1 December 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ryan Butterworth, which you created or substantially expanded. Your GA nomination of Herbie Hewett
The article Herbie Hewett you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Herbie Hewett for things which need to be addressed. Brad78 (talk) 14:40, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
- All good now. Nice work. Brad78 (talk) 17:46, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
DYK for 2009–10 Stanbic Bank 20 Series
On 3 December 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article 2009–10 Stanbic Bank 20 Series, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the 2009–10 Stanbic Bank 20 Series was heralded as a success by Zimbabwe Cricket, after the crowd for the final was described as "the biggest for a domestic match in living memory"? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Gerard Hodgkinson DYK
As the past master of getting Somerset cricket into the DYK annals, you might have some ideas for one from the Gerard Hodgkinson piece. There seems an embarrassment of potential there, what with his ownership of Wookey Hole, his exploits as a First World War pilot and his successful libel case against John Cowper Powys. The obits on his son make him a potential rich source too if anyone writes an article on him, but there's sadly no cricket connection. Johnlp (talk) 20:23, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
- I had a go myself under the 1 December nominations. Johnlp (talk) 14:19, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
- No worries. I had fun looking into him. Johnlp (talk) 18:06, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
DYK for 2009–10 Zimbabwean cricket season
On 5 December 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article 2009–10 Zimbabwean cricket season, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Zimbabwe only played one One Day International cricket series in 2009–10, beating Kenya 4–1? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Sammy Woods
Thanks for the move on Hirst earlier. Just discovered he made his f-c debut against your lot! How is Woods going, BTW, and are you still planning to go for FAC eventually? --Sarastro1 (talk) 00:06, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
- I can't see anything wrong with it. The prose looks great at a quick glance, coverage etc is fine. The main problem, is suspect, is it's not glamorous enough to attract attention: that has been my problem with my obscure Yorkshire cricketers. If you can get people to look at it, I'd say it would pass easily enough (apart from the usual ironing out process). And North American sports stuff passes no matter how obscure the subject, so... I agree that PR is a good idea though. --Sarastro1 (talk) 20:14, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Triple centuries list
Hey dude. Are you continuing your good work on saving this list or should it move onto FLRC? I think the notes do need citation, or need to be trimmed down to what is cited by each Cricinfo match report, as it happens. Thanks for your efforts thus far! The Rambling Man (talk) 17:55, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Bosanquet
If you are around at the moment, Bosanquet is at FAC. If you get a chance, comments would be appreciated. --Sarastro1 (talk) 14:52, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- A comment came up at FAC about a few more print sources. Do you have anything anywhere on Bosie, even if it's just general? --Sarastro1 (talk) 10:09, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
- Great stuff! Thanks. --Sarastro1 (talk) 13:08, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Hewett/Palairet photo
I did upload another version of the famous photo in: Hewett & Palairet1892.jpg but I prefer yours. Nigej 12:41, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Olympics
I've wanted to do this one for a while and found it really interesting. Very few points and I tweaked anything I thought needed it, but obviously feel free to revert. I haven't put it on hold, but if you are really snowed under (no pun intended), I will if you can't get to it in the next day or two. Looks like it may make a good FAC as well. --Sarastro1 (talk) 08:51, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- Passed and added to cricket GAs but it just dawned on me it could go in Olympics too. I'm not sure which has precedence, so feel free to move it! --Sarastro1 (talk) 23:45, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
PR: Herbie Hewett
I will be glad to look at it again, but it will porbably take me a few days. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:17, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK for List of international cricket centuries by Jacques Kallis
On 11 January 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article List of international cricket centuries by Jacques Kallis, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Jacques Kallis has scored more Test centuries than any other South African cricketer? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Herbert Hewett
Suspect he was single but can't find any proof. From National Probate Calendar for 1921: Hewett, Herbert Tremenheere of Burnshill Norton Fitzwarren Somersetshire died 4 March 1921 at 18 Holland-road Hove Sussex Administration London 9 November to Florence Ethel Hewett spinster. Effects £26440 0s 2d. So he didn't make a will. Florence is presumably a sister. Nigej 16:50, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Counties
I've been messing around with the Yorkshire County Cricket Club article, chucking some stuff in the history section (loooong way to go, though! It'll probably end up in a separate article) and ended up wondering about the state of the county club pages. None of them look great and I wondered if you had any thoughts about improving the layout/tables/whatever you can think of. I think most of them get a lot of traffic, so it would be good to overhaul a few. I was thinking about, for example, Manchester United F.C. which is a FA and much tidier generally. Any thoughts? --Sarastro1 (talk) 23:09, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Help with infobox
I just created an infobox for Bev Brentnall and I would be very grateful if you could check it for me. Particularly I wasn't sure about the fact that she didn't play any non-international List A cricket, and haven't seen a player like that before. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
