Disambiguation link notification for June 25
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Research and Analysis Branch, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Journal. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

[edit]Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you may have added public domain content to one or more Wikipedia articles, such as OSS Maritime Unit. You are welcome to import appropriate public domain content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources, including the usage of an attribution template. Please make sure that any public domain content you have already imported is fully attributed. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 23:22, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

- You can sign a talk page message by using

(four tildes). In fact, most of the times, you don’t need that if you’re using the reply button, for example, the one you used (and will probably use) in this message. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 18:57, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

Frank Oldfield moved to draftspace
[edit]Thanks for your contributions to Frank Oldfield. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has issues which include but not limited to WP:REFBOMB. Please clean up at draftspace undisturbed. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.
Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 18:36, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks! When I got to the 30th source, I started wondering if adding that many cites without more information was... too much. I googled "how many cites for a wikipedia page," and the only results that came up on the top page were suggestions for minimums. Guylaen (talk) 18:43, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- Only one (or at most, two) citations to reliable, independent sources (based on WP:R, WP:INDEPENDENT) are needed to back up any claim in an article. Not dozens for a single (or no) statement. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 18:54, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- OK, good to know! It really sucks I can't use the source that everyone else uses though, because even though he's an archivist, and even though he worked with a journalist to write the book, he's still an Oldfield. I'm not sure how Wikipedians interpret this.
- So I had to figure out all of the sources he used. Thankfully he had a bibliography in the back of the book - but I still dropped thirty or so of his sources. Guylaen (talk) 18:59, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- You don’t have to use his own sources, perhaps. You are the one writing this article, you’re responsible for finding sources to backup any claim you make, not Oldfield. Have you read WP:FIRSTARTICLE and maybe WP:How to write an article? Vanderwaalforces (talk) 19:03, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- Yup. I think I just rushed into it because I think the man is so damn important and the world immediately had to know about him. But I'll remember to breathe, and take it at library speed. He's important, but the article is more important. Guylaen (talk) 19:11, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- By the way, this graphic is the funniest thing I've seen in a while!
- Guylaen (talk) 19:17, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- It is indeed funny. It’s just a pictorial representation of what a refbomb is. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 19:49, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
