WikiProject Food and Drink
I wanted to personally thank you for searching out all the articles you have been doing. You are hard to keep up with with your additions for assessment, but I will catch up someday. You should add your name to the WikiProject list so that when I start the monthly newsletter, I can get it to you next month, that is if you want to be on that list.--Christopher Tanner, CCC 23:21, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- Apparently, we think alike. I just now added myself to the list of project participants. :) --GentlemanGhost 23:23, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

You seem to have done a ton of work with comic book collecting information, expecially on this page. I was forwarding you a link that would be a great real reference for the page in question. Don't worry about it
I've moved on from that. This whole business has taught me a few things, the main one being not to be so obsessive over something that while important, is not life or death. That's my only real concern for Tenebrae and SteveB - that they have gotten far too close to all this. CovenantD was another example - the guy would spend hours on end editing, and it just isn't healthy. Well, hopefully the Arbitration ruling will be more compassionate than draconian as I've changed my style. I still think Tenebrae needs some time off and the unsolicited responses from other users would also seem to indicate this, but you can only be responsible for yourself.

Hi,
can you please link the discussion where the wikiproject has so decided? Snowolf How can I help? 00:10, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Snowolf, thanks for getting back to me. I restarted the discussion again since it's been so many months since the first time I brought it up. It's here [1]. Not that many people were involved, but there were no objections. Do you think there needs to be more discussion? I saw the problem you had with the Math WikiProject. I don't anticipate any controversy, but I'll submit to your judgement.
- Also, I put a note on Warfreak (talk · contribs)'s talk page to let him know my plans. He was the one who expressed concern last time. He hasn't been very active lately, however, and has not yet responded. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 03:23, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

You (and he) may laugh when I say this, but until the notes I saw recently, I had a "hunch" that you were Hiding while on wiki break : )
It was because of that that (until now) I hadn't asked you this:

The New Gods cat...
I'd broach that on the project talk page. The CfD, and project, consensus has been not to use the cats to collect team members and/or supporting characters. This one though... it really skirts it. The New Gods are a "race" not a "club", similar to Category:Marvel Comics Eternals, so only one character is really out of place.
I think this one needs a chunk more input...

- So, would you prefer to see the phrase "see above" replaced by "Killed by Androids Lynch, Dead-Eye, Waster, and Fist"? This appears to be what the phrase is referring to. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 23:13, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- I am not a devotee of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to edit the pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.151.70.78 (talk) 23:38, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- Nor am I. I am merely trying to understand your objection to the inclusion of these characters on this list. I thought perhaps you felt that they had been incorrectly identified as being dead. However, this was not clear to me in your edit summary, so I thought it wise to seek clarification. However, given your above comments, it would seem that you object to the use of the phrase "see above", not to the characters being erroneously classified as dead. Is this correct? --GentlemanGhost (talk) 23:52, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Tag and Assess
Hey! I notice you are tagging articles for Food and Drink. Why not assess as you tag? Its pretty easy to do, just altering class and importance level. I am trying to catch up on back log of un-assessed articles, and noticed all your newly unassessed articles appearing. Jacksinterweb (talk) 03:15, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Heh. Sorry. I didn't mean to be knocking the unassessed numbers back up when you're simultaneously trying to whittle them down. I had actually opted not to assess by choice - it allows me to tag them quicker. However, that was probably more of an issue when there were only 400 articles identified by the project (which was not so long ago, believe it or not). Now that over 4,000 have been identified, I suppose I could actually assess at the same time that I tag. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 03:20, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Whew! At first I thought I was doing something wrong, I would assess a dozen and it would only show a net gain of 2. LOL Jacksinterweb (talk) 03:29, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

The History of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers available online
Hello, I saw your tag on the talk page for Horatio Wright. I just wanted to let you know that I added a link the online version of Ballard's The History of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which was listed in the "Further reading" section. The publishers chose to make the entire book available to Google Book Search. Now anyone can peruse the book, even if their local library doesn't have a copy. I don't know if this resource is any interest to you, but since you took an active interest in the article, I thought I would leave you a note about it, just in case it might be useful. Images
I just noticed your comment about Fair use images at the noticeboard talk page.
Could you clarify what exactly would need to be listed? (I'd be happy to either suggest a section, or to create one, if needed.) - jc37 01:15, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- At one point in time, I had added a section to the noticeboard, below the deletion notices and such, in which I listed image files that were excessively large and strained credulity as fair use. That way, other project editors with access to image software (such as J Greb) could see them and reduce them. I guess there's a "fair use reduced" tag now, although I haven't used it yet. I suppose either method of notifying people would be useful. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 01:24, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- Could you give me a link to the tag? - jc37 01:35, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well...
- There's {{non-free reduced}} which is generated by {{subst:furd}} and feeds Category:Rescaled fairuse images. This is for images that have been reduced. (Yeah, I use this one a lot...)
- And there's {{Ifr}} which feeds Category:Images for renaming is useful for some of the really obscure names. (Used this on a bit too... mostly to flag the moves though.).
- But I haven't seen one that is "Reduce this, please"... we may need to cobble one up.
- - J Greb (talk) 02:28, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- Probably (with a related category). There's a list of categories currently on the Project main page, we could add this as well? - jc37 02:48, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- Think this will work? - J Greb (talk) 03:26, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- Looks good to me. :) --GentlemanGhost (talk) 05:48, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- I renamed the category, but otherwise looks good to me too. (Wondering if there should be a Category:Images to be resized as a parent cat?) - jc37 09:04, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- The closest thing I've found is Category:Non-free image size reduction request. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 21:07, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Acdc high voltage international album.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Acdc high voltage international album.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Tenjho Tenge
While I understand that manga are a subtype of comic, tagging one manga with the comics project banner, but not all of them, especially when there is nothing in particular about that manga to make it relevant to the comics project, is bad style and inconsistent. I could understand if Tenjo Tenge were an OEL manga or something, but since it isn't, there's no reason to clutter up its talk page with an extra banner. So no offense, but I'm going to remove it again. --tjstrf talk 05:30, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I'll leave it that way. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 14:26, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

You had a couple of issues, a missing full stop and the cat link, that clicking on the the word "Cat" within the template sends you to Category:Cat-Class Comics articles when it ought to go to Category:Category-Class Comics articles. I think I have them both fixed now, sorry to take so long. Hiding T 12:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Noticeboard
(I'm asking you specifically, because I note you have a few postings there : )
Would you be willing to help clear the backlog of moves/merges/splits? - jc37 03:51, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I completely overlooked this post! Yes, I'd be willing. :) --GentlemanGhost (talk) 22:26, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Awesome : )
- (Note that I also meant the RfCs.)
- I think there's a decent chance that some have already been accomplished, or the request is long out-of-date due to subsequent editing, and all that is needed is some noticeboard wikignoming (moved to closed/resolved, and notated).
- Ive slooowly been working on these too. If there's anything that you think you need an admin, or just wopuld like nother opinion, please feel free to drop me a note (and this is a general offer/syggestion, not just about the noticeboard.)
- Thanks for any help : ) - jc37 02:40, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Comics Guaranty
Looking at the article itself, it looks OK to me. The problem is this is one of a (growing) number of cases where Wikipedia's standards for what is considered "reliable sources" are fast becoming outdated. The general feeling that there's a ban on so-called "self-published" sources (I say "general feeling" because it appears this is a guideline - which can be ignored if necessary - not a policy but it seems many Wikipedians see policy and guideline as meaning the same thing) needs to be updated as more and more online forums and blogs become official sources for information. For example, William Shatner makes many of his public statements about various issues through his own blog these days. So I don't know how the discussion regarding criticism of the grading will be referenced in the future if the discussion remains confined to the message forums there. I can't seem to find any RFC discussion page - are you just referring to the talk page of the article itself? 23skidoo (talk) 16:50, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- I think what I was trying to get at is if a board is flooded with complaints by different users (and most boards display things like how many posts a person has made, etc. so it helps to separate the real posters from the sockpuppets) then that can be a good indication of how people are reacting to a topic. For example, TrekBBS is a fan forum related to Star Trek and Sci-Fi, and anyone who registers can post there, and a lot of people post incorrect information and rumor, etc. However just by looking at posts made there you can tell that Star Trek: Enterprise was a very controversial show among fans, because of the number of posts against it, and the frequent eruption of flame wars against those who did like the show. So while the actual content of the posts may be suspect, I would see no problem in citing a forum like TrekBBS as a source for making the statement that Enterprise was a controversial series with fans (although there are by now plenty of "published" sources that could be cited). The problem with CGC is I think it's hard to get too many professionals in the industry going after it on the record because it has become a major factor in their business. I was flipping through the 2006 edition of Overstreet last night and there's a column written by a dealer who proudly proclaims his comics to be F.O.L. (free of slabs) but otherwise makes no direct reference to CGC. Personally I think it's wrecked comic collecting for everyone because it's getting to the point that if you don't pay the fee per comic to have it slabbed you're not really a collector. Some of the comics shown slabbed in Overstreet are just silly - there's one that a guy got slabbed, probably paid $30 or so (including postage) - the fees for CGC aren't "secret" but I notice they aren't widely publicized - and Overstreet lists it in perfect shape at being worth only about $5. 23skidoo (talk) 13:26, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! :) I was going to ask, is there anything you can do to help fix the Plunderer article to spare it from deletion? BOZ (talk) 06:24, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Comics Guaranty LLC
Since you asked...
One way you could help me out is to look at the Comics Guaranty LLC article. Glacially, I've been trying to turn this article from an informal, POV nightmare to something that better reflects the standards of Wikipedia. I finally have completed what I consider to be a decent working draft, so I'm soliciting input on it. I tried to get the input of editors whom I don't know, via an RfC request and Comicsproj peer review request, but that didn't work. So, at the risk of being accused of canvassing, I'm soliciting input from editors whom I do know, if only by username. :-) If you wanted to take a look at it, that would be great! Thanks, GentlemanGhost (talk) 02:51, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm going to give you that rather useless piece of commentary: "It looks ok to me".
- Since no article is done, and no one person will likely be the only editor of that article, I'll say that I think it's a good start, and let's see where the winds of editing take it : )
- In addition, I think you handled rather well the pointedly uncivil POV pushing editor on the talk page (and no, I didn't mean you PF - grin). - jc37 03:18, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Just thought I'd drop this your way again... Interested? : ) - jc37 05:16, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thinking? or still not interested... - jc37 21:29, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Heh. Well, I suppose if you ask me enough times, eventually I'll say yes. ;-)
- But for now I prefer to be an editor. Thanks for the continued interest, though! --GentlemanGhost (talk) 21:43, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- If asked enough times, eh? What if that meant 80 times in one week? Doczilla RAWR! 02:26, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- Looks at the ceiling and whistles slightly off-key : ) - jc37 02:57, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I'm working two jobs already, so I probably should try not to take on a third one. That is, any more than I already do. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 03:09, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Look at my edit history. As soon as I made admin, my edits plunged to what is, for me, almost nothing. Real life has seriously intruded. That doesn't mean the admin tools can't be useful. As for Wikipedia: It's not a job. It's a misadventure. Seriously, for all my resistance to the idea, being an admin really isn't a big deal if you don't let it become one. The most important thing I've done so far is block an annoying persistent sock maestro, and boy did it feel good to block that person for once without having to explain the complicated history to anybody else. Talk:Flash (Wally West)
I've moved Talk:Flash (Wally West) to Talk:Wally West/Flash (Wally West), and added a note at the top of Talk:Wally West linking to the subpage. While a history merge would've been possible, I don't think one was really called for in this case, since there was no actual cut-and-paste move to fix. (New discussion just started at the new location.) I think archiving the old discussion page as a subpage of the new one should do just fine here. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 14:40, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Crazy Quilt DC.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Crazy Quilt DC.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --05:06, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Bands
Hi GentlemanGhost,
Long time no wikisee! A while has passed, but still there was no 24/7 charity concert. I just created an article on Parachute Express and thought you may want to take a look. Perhaps you have something to add. I created very few articles on bands, but quite a few on individual musicians. I think the only other band I did was Finch (Dutch band). Any suggestions and additions are always welcome. Keep up the great work! Best regards, gidonb (talk) 00:42, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Wow, I forgot that Alan Keyes was running. Wasn't he taken away from a debate in 1996 or 2000 in handcuffs? I know Ralph Nader was booted off the grounds at the prez debates in 2000 (an example of democracy in the USA. 1-party differance from the Communist system). GoodDay (talk) 22:43, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't recall Keyes being arrested, but I may have forgotten about it. I've seen the footage of Nader being kicked out. On the other hand, I'm glad we're not Italy. Too many coalitions spoil the government? ;-) --GentlemanGhost (talk) 22:56, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
I think it was 1996, when he was seeking the Republican presidential nomination. He wasn't allowed into the later primary debates (though not certain). Guess one should check the Alan Keyes article. GoodDay (talk) 23:29, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Checked the Keyes article. Yep, at the Republican primary debate in Atlanta. GoodDay (talk) 23:31, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Faerie fire
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Faerie fire, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
