Disambiguation link notification for October 25
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Hiregutti, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gokarna (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:09, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- T'anks bot. Taken care of. Interestingly, the Dabsolver wouldn't let me save the changes - I had to copy them over manually. Any talk page stalker know why? Elfabet (talk) 12:12, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

I noticed your great work
[edit]Hi Elfabet, I wanted to say that I admire your dedication to correcting typos in Wikipedia.
I'm trying to find ways to make the process of correcting typos easier. moss project is a great project but it works one typo at a time, and it excludes many parts and kinds of typos. I've made a list on my own with typos existing on Wikipedia, ordered by frequency.
To make it easier to check whether a word is a typo, I added short context: User:Uziel302/Typos with context and in older version you can see how it works when I don't focus on popular words.
Any feedback is much appreciated and if you know someone else that might be interested in list of that kind, please let me know.
Thanks, Uziel302 (talk) 13:37, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Your question regarding made-up words
[edit]Hi Elfabet. I saw your note on http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Typo_Team/moss/E in the "Et" section regarding "Ether Saga Odyssey" and made-up words. I find the Instruction for Editors on the Team/moss project page helpful: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Typo_Team/moss#Instructions_for_editors. In this case I think the {{proper name}} template is the right thing to do.
By the way, your user page made me laugh. Thanks!

FYI
[edit]I just a confused email from Chauvelin2000 about warnings you put on their talk page. They tell me that they emailed you, but you didn't reply. If this is true, please reply to the email. If Chauvelin2000 is mistaken and didn't email you, well, I just pinged them, and hopefully that'll prompt them to come around. -- I dream of horses If you reply here, please ping me by adding {{U|I dream of horses}} to your message (talk to me) (My edits) @ 02:28, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

- I was out for the day, and that seems to have made things a little intersting, eh~. I dream of horses The summary was that they were making hundreds of edits to a single page earlier in the week, some which didn't follow some of our guidelines (such as WP:NPOV and WP:PEACOCK), effectively rewriting the article to add a lot more verbose wording and statements that are more open to interpretation than perhaps an encyclodpedia should be. I attempted to explain that while improving an article is a wonderful prospect, hundreds of edits in less than 48 hours makes it more difficult for those to reviewed by peers for quality inclusion, or perhaps it may be best to put the 'under construction' page tag on it, although I don't think I necessarily conveyed that last idea with the best clarity.
- I'll take a page from WP:AGF, drop the UC tag (for them), and hopefully someone will just give it a strong once-over when it looks like the editing has cooled off (another 90~ish edits the past day again).

[edit]As it concerns this editor[1] whose edits to Elijah Abel you found concerning. In fact, some seems copied from elsewhere:[2] Doug Weller talk 10:10, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- Doug Weller (talk · contribs), I appreciate the information, but I admit, I'm at a loss as to what to do with it. Is there a way to follow just the one notice or to be alerted when a consensus is reached? Thank you for the heads up though. Elfabet (talk) 12:22, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

Wikikitten
[edit]Thank you for the wikikitten. I've never recieved one before and it made me smile. I'm assuming that the wikikitten is for the typo fixes? I'm glad it's only a virtual token of appreciation... my cat would not appreciate the competition. Clovermoss (talk) 20:11, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Clovermoss: You're very welcome! I'm thrilled you enjoyed it. Hopefully no one {{Kittynap}}s it because it's so cute... Certainly, your efforts on typos are appreciated and now commemorated~ Besides kittens, there are plenty of other WP:Wikilove templates you can share with editors as thanks, praise, or recognition. Maybe your real cat would appreciate hazzing virtual chzbrgr instead? Elfabet (talk) 12:24, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

Work for Typo Team moss
[edit]Elfabet -
I noticed that you 'templated' the word 'respona' in the article Maharash Levi. I think that means that you added a template to Wiktionary for this word. But the 'word' itself is a typo, and should be 'responsa'. I fixed this in the article and I will delete this entry from the Typo Team moss/M page. Let me know if I misunderstood anything. Jkgree (talk) 17:27, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- Jkgree, Thanks. My note on the project page was just that I had put a template on the article page. Didn't touch anything on Wikt. The reason for the template was wanting to make sure that in the plural form, the word didn't change the spelling.
- Since 'responsa' appears to be borrowed from Latin (which often does that kind of thing), the plural of might then be responsae (if still in Latin) or if we've made it our own, 'respona' or possibly 'responsas' (but rules for pluralizing nouns ending in vowels gets tricky....).
- Thus this was me just being thorough since I wasn't sure what the correct action was. Thanks for your knowledge and notes. Cheers! Elfabet (talk) 17:46, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- And now I see from wikt:responsa that responsa is the plural form and I was being silly and thorough enough. Ah well. Live and learn. Elfabet (talk) 17:49, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

Actor vs. Actress - feedback
[edit]Hi,
Thanks for your feedback about my edits and pointing me to the chat about Actor vs. Actress. I was following the guidelines in the article http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Writing_about_women which makes direct reference to the term "actor" as an example to use as a gender-neutral noun. whilst directed obviously towards stylising new content I assumed would apply to articles already written as well. I'm a newbie here so any way help in avoiding making incorrect edits going forward would in regards to addressing the gender bias in the language of the articles would be most appreciated - or simply some pointers as what "the done thing" is or not. thanking you and apologies if I've posted in the wrong place - please send me to right place if there is one. :)
(Lila) (talk) 17:55, 11 July 2019 (UTC) (Lila)
- @(Lila): Well, that's a great reference. I still don't know what all I'm doing some of the time either, but I find that communicating what I do know tends to be the most helpful. So, you're doing great in that regard at least. I'm going to poke around the boards and archives a bit more still first, see if there's a consensus reference that leads to that link you got me, but the first talk page of actor goes back at least 3 years and has 3 different discussions on the subject with seemingly no consensus, (but quite a few strong opinions, so I'm trying to make sure to watch my neutrality as well).
- (Bookkeeping thoughts:) In general, correcting things that exist already is a great contribution, I'd like to say "keep it up" in most other circumstances. Responding to my message on your talk page is fine, but starting one here as well is acceptable. If I get a thread or start a WP:Request for Comment, I'll leave it back here with a ping for you again. Additionaly, you can be BOLD and bring up the discussion with that reference on the talk page and see what gets said. Cheers! Elfabet (talk) 18:37, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

- @(lila):
- I think my favorite response so far is by user:dramatic, who specifies that we shouldn't change it unless there's a verifiable source out there stating they prefer one way or the other, and to leave it as whichever way the first primary article author started with, so long as they are consistent. Which leads us to not need cleaning up of every article we come across while remaining neutral on the subject. Elfabet (talk) 21:29, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
[edit]Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!
